David was back at the inn putting the key into the door to his and Emma's room. "We'll be fine Emma. It's just a two day suspension don't worry" David said into his phone to Emma. "Did you find out what Uncle James and Aunt Regina are doing to Henry at least" Emma asked. "No but somehow they're messing with his memory and they've been doing it for the last five years" David said taking off his leather jacket and throwing it on one of the beds in the room. He started undoing his shoulder holster when there was a knock on the door. David turned around and saw Granny standing there. He smiled at her. "Emma honey I'll talk to you later. I have to go. I love you" David said. "I love you to Dad" Emma said and hung up. David hung up his phone and put it in the pocket of his jeans and finished undoing his holster. He threw it on the bed with his jacket. "Mr. Nolan. Oh, my, this is terribly awkward. I need to ask you to leave" Granny said. "Why" David asked confused.
"I'm afraid I got a call from the mayor's office. She said she would shut me down if I let you and Emma stay here. I can't lose this place. Emma still has her job though" Granny said. "Of course Regina would do something like this" David said. "You can gather yours and Emma's things but I need to have your room key back" Granny said. David handed the key to her and she took it form him. "I'm sorry" Granny said. David shook his head. "It's not your fault. I understand. Regina is a very difficult person to deal with" David said. "I hope you and Emma find somewhere else to stay" Granny said. "So do I" David said under his breath. "I'll leave you to pack up your stuff" Granny said leaving. David walked to the dresser and started pulling some of his clothes out. He put them on the bed and got his suitcase. He threw his clothes in his suitcase and then threw the holster in there and closed it. He got Emma's suitcase and threw her clothes in there. He put on his jacket and left the room with the suitcases.
On the other side of town James arrived home and saw Regina in the garden picking up apples. He ran to her. "Regina are you OK? Did he hurt you" James asked pulling her in for a hug. "No I'm fine. It's just our apple tree he decided to hurt" Regina said. "I should have been here" James said. Regina looked at James and shook her head. "No you were looking for something we could use against him. Did you find anything" Regina asked. James smiled evilly. "Yes and what I found is enough to even turn Emma against him" James said. "I love you" Regina said. "I love you to" James said. Regina kissed him passionately. "Come on help me pick up the apples" Regina said. James nodded his head and got on his knees with his wife picking up the apples. A few minutes later Graham walked up to the two mayors. Regina sighed. "He destroyed city property. I want him arrested" Regina said putting a couple of apples in her basket.
"So do you want me to arrest my partner" Graham asked. James rolled his eyes. "Yes we want you to arrest my brother. He is a very dangerous man" he said. Graham just stood there and Regina gave him a sharp look. "What are you waiting for" she asked. "I'm just not convinced arresting him is the right plan" Graham said. James and Regina got to their feet and glared at the sheriff. "I'm not talking about your tree either. We all know he didn't steal those files." Graham said. "Oh, do we" Regina asked. "He looked pretty shocked when I suspended him" Graham said. James scoffed. "It's because he was caught. David is a con man and a liar. He pretends to be a good person just so he could steal what he wants and hurt who he wants. A word of advice sheriff don't underestimate my brother" James said turning back around and picking up the apples again. Regina did the same thing. "He could have been so shocked because he was set up and if he was that means Dr. Hopper was lying" Graham said.
"That is ridiculous. Who exactly do you think set David up" James asked standing up and facing Graham. "I don't know. That's what I would have to find out" Graham said. "Remember, we made you sheriff and we can take it away just as easily" Regina said. "You two want me to arrest David? I will" Graham said. "Good" James said as he and Regina turned away from Graham. They started picking up the apples again. "He's going to keep coming at you guys and I know you two, you're going to keep coming at him and you two will do whatever it takes to get him out of here, and you guys may succeed" Graham said. "No. We will succeed. This is our town. It's what's best for the town" Regina yelled at Graham standing up. "I know that's what you two believe, but if this escalates, it seems to me the only people who will get hurt are Henry and Emma" Graham said. James stood up and walked over to Graham. "Why don't you worry about doing your job and we'll worry about our son" James said.
David walked to his truck with his and Emma's suitcases. He loaded them into the back of his truck. He walked over to the driver's side and stopped when he saw his front wheel. It had a boot on it. "Great what else could go wrong today" David asked to himself. Just then his phone rang. David pulled it out and answered it. "Yea" David said. "David, me and Regina would be happy to continue demonstrating our power, but am I right in guessing your resolve to stay is only growing" James asked on the other end of the line. "You have no idea" David said. "Well, then, I think it's time we called a truce. Why don't you drive over to my office? Oh yea your not able to drive with that boot on your truck so you can just walk. The exercise will be good for you" James said. David rolled his eyes and hung up his phone and walked over to James's office. "Is he coming" Regina asked. James nodded his head. "Yea he's coming and when he does we will be able to use this against him" James said holding up a file.
David arrived at James and Regina's office and walked in. James smiled when he saw him. "David please sit we have something we want to talk to you about" he said. David didn't know what was going on but cautiously took a seat on the couch while James and Regina sat in the two chairs in the room. After a minute David broke the silence. "What do you guys want? You got me suspended made me lose the only place me and Emma had to stay and I can't drive my truck because it's booted. What else could you guys possibly want from me today" David asked. "We just wanted to apologize" James said. Out of all the things David expected to hear from his brother an apology was nowhere on the list. "What" he asked just to make sure he heard James right. "We just have to accept the reality that you and Emma want to be here" Regina said. "That's right, we do" David said. "You also want Emma to break the curse and take our happy ending away" James said pointing between him and Regina.
"OK. Let's be clear. Me and Emma have no intention of taking your happy ending away from you two" David said. "If Emma break's the curse that's what will happen. The kingdom hates us" Regina said. "All I want is for my family to be reunited and for everyone in the kingdom to get their happy endings just like you guys have" David said. James shook his head. "No one would ever let us keep our happy ending. They'd take it from us. They'll separate Henry from us" James said. David looked at James and in that moment he saw his twin brother, who was his best friend, again. All these years David always hoped him and James could make up and James and Regina would forgive him and they could be brothers again maybe this is their chance. "I promise you if you guys help us and tell me how Emma is supposed break the curse I wouldn't let anyone take Henry or ruin anything you guys have built for yourselves. I'm happy you guys found a way to be happy truly" David said.
"We are happy and we're not going to let anyone take anything that makes us happy away from us" Regina said. David nodded. "You shouldn't. Once the curse is broken we can all be a happy family" he said. James and Regina looked at each other. "Yea there's just one issue with that" James said as he threw a file on the table in front of David. David looked between James and the file confused. "Go on open it" Regina said. David took the file opened it and stared at it in shock. "You see David your suffering makes us happy and knowing that you are separated from Snow makes it easier for us to sleep at night and we aren't going to give that up. Ever" James said smiling at his brother who continued to stare at the file in shock. "Where did you get this? This is supposed to be sealed. No one should be able to get it except for me" David said. James smiled. "One of the benefits of being a twin. People always mistake us for each other especially over the phone. I had the file sent over on immediately" James said.
"How did you find out this even existed" David asked anger rising up in him. "We have our ways. I wonder how Emma will feel when she finds out you've been keeping this secret from her for her whole life" Regina said. "What secret" David heard someone say from behind him. David turned around and saw Emma standing in the doorway with Henry. "Emma thank you for picking Henry up for school. Henry wait for me and your mother outside we have business to take care of" James said. "Dad what's going on" Henry asked. "Henry do as your father says. Wait outside for us. We'll be right there" Regina said giving him a look that told him not to talk back to her. Henry walked outside. Once he was outside James turned his attention to Emma. "Emma please come in think your father has something to tell you" he said. Emma walked over to her father and saw the look of complete shock on his face. Then she saw the file in his hand.
"Dad what's wrong? Are you OK" Emma asked. "Emma I can explain" David said. Emma looked at her father in surprise. "Explain what? What are you talking about? What's this" she asked taking the file out of David's hands. She read the file and David saw the tears beginning to form in her eyes. He felt horrible. "Emma listen to me" David said reaching out his hand to try and comfort her but she slapped it away. "No I hate you and I never want to see you again" Emma cried throwing the file at David and running out of the office. David started to run after her but she was already gone. James got up and picked up the file. "Damn David you were really willing to give your daughter up for adoption. What was she too much of a headache or maybe you never wanted her from the start" James said laughing. David was pissed and he lunged at James and pinned him against the wall. "David let go of him right now" Regina said. "It's OK my brother's just lashing out" James said.
"How did you know Emma would be here" David asked. "I called her and asked her to pick up Henry for us. Like you she was naïve enough to believe we actually wanted to call a truce with you. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree now does it David" James asked. "Now David if you don't mind me and Regina have some work to do and you have a daughter to try to make up with" James said pushing David off of him. Regina walked over to James and looked at David. "Your move" she said smiling. James smiled to. "You two have no souls" David said. "Oh we did but we lost our souls a long time ago because of you and your wife" James said. "That's it. I'm done apologizing and feeling sorry for what happened. You both deserved it. Now move on and get over it " David yelled. Anger flashed through James's eyes and he went to charge for David but Regina held him back. "He's not worth it" Regina said. David left the office and went to look for Emma. He had to make this right with her.
In the enchanted forest James flew over to his mother's castle. Once he got there he transformed into his human form. "Mom" James called out. "James what's the matter" Maleficent asked walking into the room. "Me and Regina tried to cast the curse and it didn't work" he said. Maleficent walked up to her son. "That's OK . You don't need to cast that curse" Maleficent said. "We're still casting the curse it's just I found out what I have to do to cast it" James said. "What do you have to do" Maleficent asked. "I'm not sure I should say. I don't know what I should do" James said tears in his eyes. Maleficent hugged James. "Shhh it's OK. Whatever it is it can't be that bad. Is there anything I can do to help" she asked. "I have to kill the thing I love most" James said. Maleficent thought for a moment. "That would be me wouldn't it" she asked stepping back and looking at her son. He nodded his head still crying.
"Me and Regina put our blood into the curse so we don't have to kill each other. You're the only other person I love besides Regina. I'm so sorry Mom" James said. Maleficent's heart broke seeing her son so upset. She wished she could fix everything and then him and Regina could be happy and then they wouldn't need to cast the stupid curse. She hugged him again. "Mom, I don't know what to do" James said. Maleficent looked into James's eyes and she saw that he was broken. That hurt her more than anything. She wiped his tears away with her thumbs. "My beautiful boy, you don't have to do this" Maleficent said. "Yes I do. I can't live like this anymore" James said. "We can get past this together and you and David can become brothers again. You don't need to enact the curse" Maleficent said. "It's too hard living everyday knowing what me and Regina lost while David gets to have everything. It's not fair. What he and Snow did to us, what they took from us… It eats me alive everyday Mom. I can't live with it anymore. Their very existence makes me sick. They have to pay" James said.
"James if you cast this curse the price will be a hole you and Regina will never be able to fill, why would you want to live like that? Please just try to forgive David. We could have a new life all of us together" Maleficent said. "What kind of life? Everything me and Regina worked for, everything we've built will be gone. We'd be powerless and weak. They already think we're nothing. Like Dad always said power is everything" James said. "Your father was wrong. Power isn't everything. He had all that power and look where it got him. Power is seductive but honey so is love and that's the strongest power there is. That's what your father never understood. Me you and your brother we can all be a family again" Maleficent said. James hugged his mother tears still falling from his eyes. "I just want to be happy" James said. "You will be no matter what it takes" Maleficent said. Maleficent pulled back from James and looked him in the eyes.
"If this is what you have to do to be happy than it's OK. I understand" Maleficent said. "What" James asked looking at her confused. "If killing me is what will give you a chance at being happy than it's OK. I love you" she said. "Why? I just told you that I came here to kill you. How do you still love me" James asked. "A parents job is to love their children unconditionally no matter what they do and put their happiness over yours. Someday when you're a father you'll understand that" Maleficent said. James started crying harder. "I'm a bad person Mom" James said. Maleficent grabbed James's face and forced him to look at her. "Your not a bad person James. You've just had unbelievable tragedy happen to you and if I could I would go back and fix it for you. I'm sorry I can't" Maleficent said. James hugged her again tightly and didn't want to let go. "I love you Mom and I'm sorry" James cried. Maleficent kissed his forehead.
"I love you too and it's OK" she said. Maleficent stepped back. James walked over and threw his hand out but stopped it right before it reached her stomach. He couldn't do it. He couldn't kill his mother. She meant too much to him. "There has to be another way" he said walking out of the room. "James what's wrong" Maleficent asked following him. James went into his mother's library and started looking through different books. "James what are you looking for" Maleficent asked but James ignored her as he continued to look through different books. Finally he found what he was looking for. "James would you please tell me what your looking for" Maleficent asked. James showed her the book. A life essence spell. "Do you think it'll work" Maleficent asked hopeful. To be truthful she didn't want to die but she would have for James just like she would for David. "I think so. All I have to do is find a heart to substitute for yours and put your essence on it. It should be enough to trick the curse especially with Regina's father's heart" James said.
"OK what do I do" Maleficent asked. "You just sleep for a little while. I'll handle the rest" James said. "OK do it" Maleficent said. "When you wake up you will be in this new land" James said. Maleficent nodded her head. "I love you James" she said. "I love you too Mom" James said. He read the spell and Maleficent fell on the floor fast asleep. James looked at his mother's sleeping form. Now all he had to do was find a substitute heart. Just then Maleficent's unicorn walked in. James smiled. "Perfect" he said. He walked over to the unicorn. The unicorn saw Maleficent on the floor sleeping and started freaking out. "Easy boy. It's OK. It's me James" James said. The unicorn stopped freaking out recognizing James. James started to pet him. "That's right it's just me" James said. James continued petting him but then all of sudden James threw his hand into the unicorn's stomach and took out his heart. It yelled out in pain and fell to the floor.
James walked over to his mother and said a spell and her essence went on to the heart. He smiled. He hoped this worked. He waved his hand and his mother disappeared. He was about to fly away when he heard someone outside. "Mom" he heard his brother call. James ran behind one of the bookshelves and hid. "Mom" he heard David call this time closer to the library. He heard footsteps running and then he saw his brother checking on the unicorn. David got up and moved further down the castle. James took this as his opportunity to transform into a dragon and fly out of the castle. David had searched the whole castle and he couldn't find his mother anywhere. He knew he shouldn't have left her alone. He was going to find her and find out what James and Regina did to her. He couldn't lose his mother.
