In Storybrooke David drove to Granny's diner. David knew that Ruby and Ashley were friends so he figured that would be a great place to start. When David arrived he saw Billy the tow truck driver towing a car and Ruby was serving customers outside Granny's. David and Emma got out of Emma's car and walked over to where Ruby was. "Ruby" David called. Ruby turned around and smiled. She walked over to David. "David what a pleasant surprise" Ruby said eyeing him up and down. He looked good in his button down shirt which was opened at the top so the top of his chest was showing and his tight jeans. Ruby licked her lips. David felt uncomfortable with how Ruby was staring at him but he had a job to do. Emma just glared at the desperate waitress who was looking at her father like he was a snack she wanted to eat. She knew Ruby was really Red riding hood and was a friend of her parents but Ruby was really annoying with her constant flirting of her father.
"I just have a couple questions to ask you off the record" David said. Ruby shook head. "I can think of other fun things we can do" Ruby said placing her hand on David's open chest moving a finger down to the next button on his shirt. David looked down at Ruby's hand that was about to unbutton his next and expose more of his chest. He reached up and pulled her hands away. "This is important. It's about your friend Ashley" David said. Ruby smiled at him. "You know you can't keep on playing hard to get. It's not fair" she said moving her hands to his belt. David pulled her hands away before she did anything inappropriate. Emma was furious. "Are you seriously that desperate? He's clearly not interested and obviously he's married" Emma yelled causing everyone to stare at them. David pulled Emma to the side. "Maybe you should wait in the car" David said. Emma shook her head. "I'm not leaving you alone with her. Apparently she doesn't get a clue" Emma said. "I'll be fine" David said.
David walked back over to Ruby. As much as he didn't want to deal with her and her unwanted advances she was his best lead to finding Ashley. "So about your friend Ashley" David said. "Is she in some kind of trouble" Ruby asked deciding to be helpful. "I don't know that's what I'm trying to find out. She ran disappeared and hasn't been seen since last night. Have you heard from her" David asked. Ruby shook her head. "No. I hope she's OK. She shouldn't be out there alone and pregnant" Ruby said. "Do you know who the father is" Emma asked. Ruby glared at Emma for a moment before turning to David. "His name is Sean Herman. He was her boyfriend" Ruby said as customers called her over to their table. She went and picked up a couple plates from the table. "So this Sean Herman. You don't think he's involved in her disappearance" David asked. "That would mean he was involved with her at all which he isn't. He left her in the lurch right after they found out they were expecting" Ruby said.
Just then the car Billy was towing dropped on the road hard. "Hey, hey, hey Billy be careful" Ruby said running past David and Emma. Billy looked up at Ruby. "You almost shattered my wolf thing Billy. It's good luck" Ruby said. "I'm sorry Ruby but look it's fine" Billy said. "Ruby what about her family" David asked walking up to her. Ruby turned to look at David. "She's got a stepmom and two stepsisters she doesn't talk to" Ruby said. David and Emma gave each other a knowing look. "Look I don't know what you heard but it's wrong. Everyone thinks she's not ready to have this kid but she's trying. Taking night classes trying to better herself. Trying to get her life together. She's trying to be a good mom" Ruby said. David nodded his head. "That's why I'm trying to find her. To give her that chance" David said. Ruby shook her head. "Maybe you should stay out of it. She's been through enough already" she said. "Believe me she'll be in more danger if I don't find her" David said.
"You might want to try her ex" Ruby said. "Where can I find him" David asked. "He lives with his dad" Ruby said. "Great got an address" David asked. Ruby walked over to a table and wrote down the address on a napkin. She handed it to David. David looked at it and then looked back up at Ruby. "Thanks" he said. Ruby smiled at him. "Anytime hot stuff" she said walking away. Before she walked away she grabbed his ass. Emma rolled her eyes. David and Emma got into Emma's car. "You know you probably should arrest her" Emma said. David shook his head. "She's harmless" he said. Compared to his stalker who had been in his house and watched him sleep Ruby was a piece of cake to deal with. He still didn't want Emma to know about the stalker. He didn't want her worrying about him. He could deal with this stalker. "I just think you should be careful with her" Emma said. "She's a little annoying but it's all harmless. Besides she's your mother and mine's friend. I can't just arrest her" David said.
David drove to Sean's house. He turned to Emma. "Stay in the car" David said opening the door. Emma grabbed his arm. "No dad I want to help" she said. David nodded. "You will but what does it look like for the deputy to have his daughter with him when he's questioning people" David asked. Emma thought for a moment. "Good point" she said letting go of her father. "I'll let you know what I find out" David said getting out of the car. He closed the drivers door and walked up to the house. He rang the bell and waited for someone to answer. The door opened as a car pulled into the driveway. David recognized Thomas immediately. "Can I help you" Sean asked. "Sean Herman" David asked remembering Ruby told him that was Thomas's name her. "Yea who are you" Sean asked. "My name is David Nolan. I'm looking for Ashley Boyd. She's in trouble. I thought maybe she came to see you" David said.
"My son doesn't have anything to do with that girl anymore" Sean's father Mitchell Herman said walking up to the front door. "Whatever trouble she's in I'm sorry for but there is nothing we can do to help" Mitchell said. David understood what was going on. "You're the reason he broke up with her" he said. "Absolutely. I'm not going to let my son throw away his entire life over a mistake" Mitchell said. Emma watched from the car as her father talked to Sean's father. Emma rolled her eyes after she heard Sean's father call his baby a mistake. This man was ignorant and she didn't like him. "So you just told him to leave her" David said. He could never do that to Emma. Yes he didn't like really any of her boyfriends and none of them were good for his baby girl but if she was truly happy he could never stand in the way of her happiness. "Well what are they going to do? Raise the baby in the backseat of a car" Mitchell asked.
Now David was getting mad. "Maybe you could be a good father and help your son raise your grandchild" David said trying to keep his anger in check. He didn't understand how a father could be so cold and keep his child from being happy. It would break his heart if he knew he ever did that to Emma. "That was their mistake not mine. My son is meant for bigger and better things than being a teen father" Mitchell said walking into the house. "Dad maybe we should help him look" Sean said. "It's a waste son" Mitchell said from inside the house. David leaned in close to Sean so that only he could hear. "Sean if you want to come then come. Stop letting other people make decisions for you. If Ashley runs away with this baby she's going to be in some serious trouble" David whispered to Sean. "She's running away with the baby" Sean asked surprised. "Yes" David said. "Sean inside. Now" Mitchell said walking up to them.
David gave Sean a pleading look hoping he would help him. Sean looked between David and his father. David stared at Sean as Sean walked into the house. David looked away disappointed. "Look believe me If I knew where she was I would tell you. I went to a lot of trouble to get her that deal" Mitchell said. David looked at him confused. "Deal? What are you talking about" David asked. Now Mitchell looked at David confused. "You don't know. Ashley agreed to give up the child and she's being paid very well to do so" Mitchell said. "She sold the baby" David said in shook. He couldn't believe it. "You make it sound so crass. I found someone who's going to find that child a good a proper home" Mitchell said. "Who are you to judge whether Ashley is capable of providing that" David asked. "Do you have any children" Mitchell asked. David looked back at Emma watching him in the car. "A daughter" David said.
"Well then imagine if your daughter was throwing her life away by becoming a teen mom. You would do anything to stop her from destroying her life" Mitchell said. Now David was really angry. "I would never make sell her baby. I would help her out if she needed it" he said. Emma watched her father tell off this man and she smiled. "She's a teenager. She's never shown any evidence of being responsible how could she possibly know how to be a mother" Mitchell said. "Maybe she's changing her life. You should give her chance. She might surprise you" David said. "Everybody says their changing their life. Now look I found someone who's going to pay Ashley extremely well. Someone who's going to see to it that everybody's happy" Mitchell said. In that moment it all clicked for David. "Mr. Gold" David said. "Wasn't that why you were hired? To bring him the baby" Mitchell asked. David sighed. Gold played him. He wasn't after anything Ashley stole. He was after her baby. David wasn't going to let Gold take that baby. He had to find her fast before Gold or his brother did.
