Majo Kon-ki The Marriage of Tanya the Witch
(The marriage chronicles of a witch)
Arc 1 - Philosopher's Stone – part 2
September the first, AD1991, the Hogwarts Express
Tanya opened her eyes suddenly, confused about her surroundings.
"You finally woke up." Harry Potter said.
"Where am I?"
"The Hogwarts express, remember?"
"O-oh! That's right." She yawned.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah… just sleepy."
"I can see that, the instant we entered this compartment you sat down and have been sleeping since then."
"Want me to get some coffee for you? Maybe that trolley lady had some."
"C-coffee?" For a moment, a memory came to her mind, of a sweet and bright girl. A person that she was trying hard to not remember.
"N-no! Thank you."
"Hum?"
"I just don't drink coffee anymore."
"How about a chocolate frog?"
"Chocolate?! Where?"
Harry handed a box to her.
"Ah! Don't let it escape-"
The chocolate frog almost jumped out, but Tanya easily caught it before it could get away.
"Is this thing alive?" She wondered, looking at the chocolate trying to struggle free.
"I don't think so… but perhaps-"
"Fine by me!"
Tanya didn't let Harry finish any possible disapproval. She just bit off the frog's head in order to make its struggle come to an end. Alive or not, she would never give up chocolate.
"Ahhhhh! So good!"
Now that she gave up coffee, this was her last available pleasure, but it was something that could only seldom be enjoyed as the nuns at her orphanage were very rigorous against sweets.
As Tanya ate the now 'dead' frog, she noticed a red haired boy in the compartment looking at her with widened eyes, as if shocked with the 'killing' of the creature made of chocolate.
"Who is this?" Tanya asked, pointing to the boy.
"Oh! I almost forgot, this is Ron Weasley. All the other compartments are full, so I let him stay since we have space."
"H-hi! I am Ron." The boy made a small wave at her.
"Nice to meet you. I am Tanya Degurechaff."
"Degurechaff? What a weird- I mean, different name."
Tanya chose to ignore the 'weird' comment.
"It's Imperial- German. My parents were Germans."
"Speaking of names, wasn't the Weasleys the ones who took care of Luna Lovegood after the accident with her mother?"
"Yes! We did! How do you know that? Were you guys there when her mother had the accident?"
Both Harry and Tanya nodded their heads.
In the end, Tanya didn't get a chance to talk with Xenophilius Lovegood that day. He rushed to the hospital after learning about his wife's accident and couldn't spare time to meet her. And since she would be busy with school, it would be some time before she had another opportunity.
"Actually, it was Tanya that saved her life!" Harry said.
"Wow! Really?"
Harry then told the red haired boy how Tanya used her magic to revive Pandora Lovegood.
But, by his expression, Ron didn't seem to believe in the story.
"Err… Don't take this the bad way, but magic can do lots of things, but not bring back the dead. So Unless she became an inferi-"
"You improvised a pair of defibrillators with your wands?! That's brilliant!"
The three looked to the compartment door to see a girl and a boy behind her.
"Oh! Excuse me. I didn't mean to pry, but Neville here lost his toad and before we could ask, we ended up hearing your story."
The boy, Neville, shyly waved his hand.
"How did you think of using the wands like that?" The girl asked, looking very excited.
"Well… I know a little about first aid, so when I realized that CPR was not working I thought of using anything at hand, I almost forgot that I could do magic since the last one I did was four years ago-"
"Wait… I can't talk about that…"
Professor Snape warned that the incident where she defeated seven hit wizards was to remain confidential. Let's just say that people wouldn't feel very safe if they found out that those who were supposed to protect them could easily be defeated by a seven year old…
"That's bonkers. Everyone knows that magic can't bring back the dead." Ron cut off, still skeptical.
"Actually, proper medical care these days can resurrect a person if timed right." The girl answered.
"Y-you mean that muggles can bring the dead back?! Wow! I need to tell dad about this…"
"…You know that there is the Reviving Spell 'Rennervate' that can not only awaken a person but also revive if the heart has just stopped…"
"There is…?" Ron asked, obviously unaware of his own world advantages.
"Well… I also didn't knew… Shit! This means that I almost opened a hole in that woman for nothing! Children should at least learn spells like these in the case of an emergency!"
"I believe you are like me right? Nobody in my family is magical at all, I was really surprised when my letter arrived." The girl then turned to Tanya.
"Yes. I am not-"
"I am Hermione Granger by the way. And you are…?" she didn't let Tanya finish speaking and said very fast pointing to the three.
"I am Ron Weasley."
"Harry Potter."
"I am-"
Again, Tanya didn't get an opportunity to introduce herself as the girl, Hermione, started babbling non stop about how famous Harry Potter was. How she had already read lots of books about Hogwarts and the world of magic in general.
"Oh! You didn't say your name." Hermione finally remembered her.
"I am Tanya. Tanya Degurechaff."
"Degurechaff? That name sounds German. I read that Germans usually go to the Durmstrang Institute."
"As I said before, my parents were Germans. But I was born here in Britain. Also, Durmstrang doesn't admit muggle-borns."
"They don't? Why?" This seemed to take her off guard.
"It seems that she didn't read everything after all. It's no wonder. No book would want to scare the muggle-borns on their first day."
"Because-"
Tanya was about to explain when three boys entered the compartment, throwing the other boy, Neville, out of the way.
"Ah… Not him…" Tanya heard Harry whisper.
It took her a moment to recognize the boy as the one that Harry mentioned meeting at Madame Malkin's robe shop. Tanya only saw him from a distance, since the girls are measured on the other side of the shop.
"Is it true? I heard that Harry Potter is in this compartment. It's you?"
For what Harry said, Tanya could tell that this boy, Draco Malfoy, was a sympathizer of the pure-blood supremacy doctrine that professor Snape warned her years ago.
Looking at his interaction with Harry, Tanya could see that he wanted to establish a supposed friendly relationship, but was already placing himself at the top.
"Bad approach, not to saythat I got here first!"
Just like Malfoy, Tanya was already working on a relationship with Harry Potter, just being less obvious about her true intentions.
Harry Potter had a great destiny ahead of him, maybe too great for such an ordinary boy. He would need someone to guide him into becoming a wizard powerful enough to kill the dark lord. The problem was that it would demand considerable effort and labor into training, something that he may not be willing to do.
Tanya had to make Harry trust her, convince him that she had his best interests in mind. And for that, she needed a position of authority and affection in his life, to become his main emotional pillar. Just being a friend would not suffice, she had to turn into someone akin to a relative, maybe a sister figure to him. This way, she could mold him into the perfect soldier, one who obeys her orders without questioning. And after Voldemort is dealt with… well, it wouldn't hurt to have a 'meat shield' available if she was still looking for the deathly hallows.
"… I can help you there." Draco said and offered his hand to Harry.
This was the moment of truth, if someone like Malfoy had any appeal to Harry Potter, then Tanya would need to change her approach. Still, maybe a boy with low morals could also be easier to turn into a soldier or maybe a killer and after he completed his task, she could just dispose of him before he became troublesome.
Harry just looked at Malfoy, then at Ron and Hermione and finally at Tanya.
She answered his look with the best reassuring smile she could muster.
It was still a relief when Harry just gave her a small smile back and stood beside her, taking her hand in his.
Tanya was annoyed by this intrusion in her personal space. But she had to act the part as Harry's 'emotional support'. If she wants to become his 'sister', then he has to get used to relying on her.
"I think I can tell who the wrong… and right sort are for myself, thanks!" Harry said, and Tanya, acting her 'part', gave his hand a reassuring squeeze.
It was her victory and definitively not the answer that Malfoy was expecting.
"I'd be careful if I were-"
"LEAVE!"
Tanya said with such a powerful voice that everyone stared at her.
"Who do you think you are to order-"
Malfoy didn't get to finish his sentence as Tanya just pointed her right hand at him and the boy and his 'bodyguards' were thrown out of the compartment with such strength that when they slammed against the other side, it was felt that the entire car tilted in that direction.
"Sorry Malfoy but if someone is going to control this boy that someone is me!"
The three boys were still with an expression of shock and frighten when Tanya just helped Neville up and inside the compartment and closed the door.
"Hum… Put too much strength in the blast. I need to watch it in the future, this is not a military academy where I can kill the students that don't take orders. Well, that's what happens when you are not allowed to practice magic for years."
"That was BRILLIANT!" Harry was the first to speak.
"Just did That to protect ourselves Harry. Don't get used to me always saving you."
"O-okay… Sorry."
Of course, she was just saying to look proper. It would be best if Harry grew dependent of her.
"'Brilliant'? That was barbaric! They didn't deserve for you to go so far!" Hermione Granger criticized.
"You are right. Sorry, didn't know it would come so strong…" Tanya forced herself to agree with the girl.
Truth was, it was best to already show bullies who is in charge since day one.
"T-they didn't get too much hurt, right?" Neville spoke for the first time.
"No. They will be alright…"
"…I think."
"Hey! What side are you two? Those three are gits!" Ron spoke, taking her side.
"They will think twice messing with Harry since his girlfriend-"
"What?! G-girlfriend? I am not his girlfriend!"
"You are not? Then why are you two holding hands?" Ron asked, pointing to their hands.
"Wha-" Tanya looked at her left hand and it was true. Harry was still holding it.
She tried to shake him off, but he wasn't letting go.
"Err, Harry could you please-"
"W-we are not? B-but I thought…" Harry seemed to be almost in tears.
"W-w-what is going on here? Shit! Don't tell me that he fell for me? But being in love so young?!"
That was something that Tanya thought could happen. Only not so soon! Her idea was to establish a platonic relationship with him long before Harry turned into a pubescent teenager boy motivated only by his hormones. Before he would go skirt chasing, she would already be his reliable -and unsexy- 'sister'.
"I need to salvage this somehow. Only, what should I say? if I turn him down, it could become awkward between us, he might want to distance himself from me!"
She had to control herself from becoming too flustered. Tanya had no experience breaking hearts of boys in her last life. And in her first life, 'he' was too busy with his studies to even bother answering the few love letters that came his way.
"M-maybe for now I should agree to date him… Argh! I really don't want to go that far! B-but if it comes to worst I can convince him to just hold hands… I hope!"
That seemed to be the best way out for now. Tanya just drew a breath and looked directly at Harry's eyes. This ordeal was making her blush.
"H-Harry, I-I a-also-"
In the end she couldn't force herself to say 'I like you'.
"A-are you really sure that you have r-romantic feelings for me?"
"Hum? Romantic feelings? What are those?"
"Eh?"
Tanya was not the only one to blink at this, the other three children had the same thought as her:
"… is he serious?"
"Harry, do you even know what a girlfriend is?" Tanya risked asking.
"A girl that is a friend?" He answered without hesitation.
"…"
After that, Tanya, Hermione and even Neville tried to explain what a 'girlfriend' and 'romantic feelings' mean… with no success.
It seems that his relatives had inadvertently raised a sheltered boy that was ignorant about the facts of life.
Surprisingly, it was Ron that solved the issue.
"Blimey Harry. A girlfriend is… you know… Someone you fancy… you will want to go out together… to snog, put your mouth in hers and start sucking-"
"Mouth? Sucking?!" Harry widened his eyes.
"My brothers want to snog all the time. They say that once you start, you don't wanna stop."
"Ewww! So That's what what uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia were doing that time when I-" Harry said, bringing out what seemed to be a very disturbing memory.
"That- That was so disgusting! Is Aunt Petunia uncle Vernon's girlfriend?"
"Kind of. So, still think I am your girlfriend?" Tanya answered, happy that he was such an innocent and immature boy.
"Yuck! No! A-and sorry for thinking you were!"
She let go a breath of relief. This problem was easily dealt with.
Perhaps in being Harry's girlfriend, she could control him more easily. But the problem is the 'obligations' that such a role would demand of her! And she definitely was not going that far!
"Something wrong with your skirt?" Harry heard Ron ask Tanya.
"N-no, nothing. I just don't like to wear skirts or dresses." She replied while holding her skirt as if a wind would come any moment and blow it up.
"Why didn't you wear pants then?"
"Wanted to! Only the school regulations won't allow it! I tried to order one at Madam Malkin's when this was explained."
"Hum? What is wrong with a dress? My sister wants to wear them all the time."
"What about you? Would you like to wear one?"
Ron just shook his head.
"There is your answer."
"But that is different. I am a boy and you are a girl-" Ron winced at the scare glare Tanya gave him.
Harry was watching as Tanya interacted with Ron. From his point of view, the two seemed to get along very well.
For a moment he felt a tinge of jealously. Harry wanted the two to only get along with him and not with each other!
Never before he had been that selfish, but then again, he never had any friends until now and this was adding to his worries.
The boy couldn't stop feeling inadequate, as if he didn't belong here and yet, Harry was supposed to be famous! Some sort of savior of the magical world! What if this is just a big misunderstanding? What if they discover that he isn't even a wizard at all?
"Harry?"
"Hum?" Harry was brought back from his musings by Tanya calling him.
"What are you doing alone here? The others are already in the great hall."
"Eh?" Harry looked around and found out that she was right, only the two were left behind.
"…"
"Aff… What is wrong?" She asked, crossing her arms.
"I am worried sick! Ron said that we need to perform a test!"
"Test? They just put a stupid hat in your head and it will say the name of your house."
"T-that's it?!"
"Yes! That's it. Pretty silly if you ask me. To let a hat make decisions… Now, let's go."
Harry didn't move, something still worrying him.
"…"
"What now?"
"What if this is a mistake? What if I am not a wizard?"
"You are a wizard. These people do this for centuries and only once a squib managed to come this far."
"B-but they think I am powerful when I don't know a thing! I am not like… you! Someone who can save a person's life!"
Actually, Harry felt very embarrassed by that incident. He didn't do anything to help at all. It was Tanya that had saved that woman's life and even Hagrid helped by calling healers. He wanted to do something but seeing the girl crying over her mother made something inside him freeze in terror! He felt that he saw something like that before…
"W-what if I do something wrong and they send me away? Back to my uncle and aunt?!"
"Harry! Just listen to yourself. You just got inside the school and are already afraid of being expelled?"
"W-well…"
"I am also new to all of this. And as you could see with that Malfoy boy, my 'sort' is not very welcomed here…"
"Ah!"
"That's right, I didn't think of that! Tanya has more reasons to be scared than me and yet…"
Once again he felt embarrassed that such a small girl was so much braver than himself.
"I will go with you."
"What?"
"If for some reason they decide that this is not your place, then I will leave with you."
"You will? Why?"
"Isn't that what friends are for?" She said as a matter of fact and gave him a pretty smile.
Instantly, all worries seemed to leave Harry as he felt very happy that he had such a kind girl as a friend.
Harry approached Tanya and showed his hand. She was confused about what he wanted, but then sighed and took his hand in hers.
"Again… this sensation…"
Like when they met and in the Hogwarts express, Harry felt a gentle warmth envelop his heart. He still didn't know what this was but he guessed that this was happiness. The satisfaction for finally finding someone that cared about him.
Malfoy's hand couldn't be this warm, instead, he was sure that it would feel stone cold to the touch.
"C-can we go now? They must have already started the sorting." Tanya asked, blushing.
"Wherever you want…"
"… as long as we are together."
Severus Snape could barely contain his anticipation.
After years waiting for this day, it finally arrived.
"Why am I so anxious? We talk by owl almost every day!"
As promised, he kept in touch with Tanya. At first to guide her in learning their laws and costumes, and to make sure that she wasn't getting into more trouble.
But as time passed, Snape found himself slowly opening to her. The content of their letters became more personal, as they got to know each other, they'd share about their daily affairs and aspirations for the future.
He learned that, contrary to his beliefs, Tanya didn't want to become an auror or work with anything related to fighting, stating that she was a pacifist. Far from it, what she wanted to do was bureaucratic work.
"At the time I thought she was joking. Which child wants a desk job?"
This was just another addition to the list of strangeness about her.
Another example was that even being raised in a catholic orphanage, Tanya completely rejects the concept of 'God' and religion. Snape never found out the reasons as this topic in particular seemed to upset the girl. Which was another strange fact, as besides this, she was a very rational person.
"I wonder, have I learned everything about her?" Snape chuckled thinking what amusing surprises Tanya Degurechaff still had in store.
The doors of the great hall opened and the professor had to contain himself to not jump out of his chair.
"Hum? Where is she?" Snape thought, looking at the forth-
He noticed that there were only thirty eight children led by professor McGonagall. He was about to call her when two children arrived late.
"Ah! There she is. And look how much she grew- not!"
Under a quick examination, Tanya didn't seem to change too much from how she was four years ago.
"Are those sisters feeding her well?"
Snape worried about a possible mistreat against the girl and made a note to ask afterwards.
It was then that he noticed that she was holding hands with another child.
"Hum? Did she make a friend?"
Snape was a little surprised, like him she seemed to be a reserved person. He was happy, nonetheless, to know she already has a friend. Tanya was holding hands with-
"… JAMES POTTER?!"
Snape almost had a heart attack and this time he did jump from his chair, startling professor Quirrell.
"S-something w-wrong S-Severus?"
"Be quiet!"
Snape rubbed his eyes, he was certainly seeing things.
"Y-yes! When I look again, I will not see Tanya Degurechaff with…"
He looked again, and James Potter was still holding hands with her.
"This is a nightmare- No! I finally have gone insane!" He was holding his chest trying hard to breathe.
That's when Quirinus Quirrell got up from his chair, curious at what got his fellow teacher so jumpy.
"Oh! I-isn't that m-mister Harry P-Potter?"
"Hum? 'Harry' Potter?"
"Not James, but Harry?"
"Y-yes. T-that is mister P-Potter, I m-met him about a m-month ago, he was with H-Hagrid and… Oh! With that l-little lady t-too."
"Goddammit Dumbledore! You should warn me about these things!"
Looking at the boy, Snape confirmed that he was almost the exact copy of that hateful James Potter, almost everything except…
"!"
Again, Snape almost had another heart attack, if the face was the same as the owner's father, Harry Potter had the same eyes as his mother. So alike that for a moment he ignored the rest and was mesmerized by those green eyes that he thought to never see again.
For a moment, Severus Snape let himself dream, he closed his eyes and imagined Tanya holding hands, not with Potter's son, but with Lily, exactly as she was at that age. A blond with blue eyes smiling at a red headed with green eyes also with a full smile-
"S-Severus?"
Snape was brought back from his fantasy by Quirrel again.
"A-are you sure y-you are a-alright?"
"Yes… I am… Thanks for your concern." Snape recomposed himself.
"D-did you just t-thank m-me?!"
Snape sighed.
"Shut up Quirrel! Did the sorting start?"
"Y-yes. I b-believe the little l-lady with mister P-Potter is next."
"Oh!"
As Quirrel informed, after Tracey Davis was sorted into Slytherin, It was Tanya Degurechaff's turn.
Just like the others, she sat at the stool and had the hat placed in her head.
"Hum? Isthe hat twitching?"
Then they waited…
and waited…
and waited some more…
It was already five minutes since her sorting started.
"Great, we have our first hatstall!"
Just as Snape thought this, the hat made his decision…
"GRYFFIN-!"
… or not, as the hat seemed to twitch again and stop at the middle of his decision.
"Now, that is something new."
The Gryffindors were about to cheer her when they stopped in their tracks.
And they waited another five minutes…
"RAVEN-"
Like before, the hat stopped at the middle of the name of one of the houses and twitched.
Again, more time elapsed. And even more time…
"SLYTHE-"
… and once again the hat stopped in the middle of another house's name.
By now, Tanya Degurechaf already had broken the record in taking the most time to be sorted. Students and teachers alike were already losing patience and were giving glares to professor McGonagall. Some were saying to let her be last since it was taking so long.
A few more minutes passed, and now, the headmaster rose from his chair obviously about to intercede… when Tanya spoke up.
"Do what I told you, or we are going to take all night!" She said, sounding very annoyed.
"Alright, alright…" The hat spoke for everyone to hear. The tone of his voice showed resignation.
He sighed and then spoke:
"HUFFLE…-" As the hat talked considerably slowly, it seemed that she was becoming a Hufflepuff, but at the last moment…
"GRYFFINDOR!"
"Wha-" Not only Snape, but all present were dumbfounded at that. Before the hat finished saying 'Hufflepuff', it said 'Gryffindor' instead.
"WHAT THE HELL!" Tanya jumped from the stool and grabbed the hat in a way that seemed to want to choke it.
"That wasn't what we agreed on!" She seemed quite displeased.
"Sorry girl, I can understand your wish to have calm and peaceful school days…" He began to say while shaking hi head/entire body.
"But in this place, it's an illusion. Also, you are bringing a storm that would sweep the poor Puffs! I don't think that the Ravenclaws or Slytherins could withstand it either. Only the brave Gryffindors can survive and even help should you allow it."
Tanya realized that everyone heard what the hat said and blushed. She let out a big sigh, placed the hat back at the stool and sat at the Gryffindor table, her head very low.
There was no applause, only a very long silence since everyone was still trying to understand what just happened. Never before the hat took so long and no student had so blatantly fought with it.
After a full minute, professor McGonagall resumed the sorting.
"W-well, Entwhistle, Kevin…"
"What the- What in the blazes was all of that?!"
AN: With this chapter, I believe that my initial setting is complete. In this story, Tanya will look for the deathly hallows in order to reunite and destroy them. After this objective is complete, Peverel promised to return her to her original body, the salaryman death will be nullified and he will resume his original life without remembering the life as Tanya. Her secondary objective is to make sure that Harry Potter is strong enough to kill Voldemort for the simple reason that she doesn't want the dark wizard to interfere with the salaryman life after she goes back.
Harry will start as a more innocent boy in this story. I made this based in another fanfic I once read and I thought that it made sense Harry being ignorant to some aspects of life, particularly relationships and sex, since his relatives never cared to explain anything to him. He also had no friends so there was no one to teach him about the world at large.
Tanya's 'third' birthday will be August 23. I almost made her a leo, but Harry, Neville and Ginny were already born in this period, so I made her a virgo like Hermione.
Sorry the delay, but First I had trouble with Snape monologue and second I had another toxic review that made me question why I am doing this in the first place. I will continue writing, but it's hard to not be affected for these things…
Here the answers to the reviews:
To Ocansino: thank you. Unfortunately, I can't make larger chapters, as just this size already take too much of my time. Maybe with time and experience, I can finish writing faster, but for now that is the best I can do. I can only promise that no matter how much time it takes, I will finish this story.
To AmortePerpetuaLiberaNos: Thank you. This was the way I thought to keep Tanya exactly as she is in youjo senki. Peverell is someone akin to an angel, he has powers beyond mortality but compared to Being X that is a God, he has limits.
To Mark the Mark: Thank you. It's as I said before, I didnt want for Tanya to go through something so horrible. But she thinks that she was raped by Lorya. This is an important plot in this story, eventually, she will find out that nothing happened, but only just before she marries Harry.
To candy: Thank you. Actually, Harry will propose at least two times to her, the first time she will not be able to say no and the next she will have to say yes. Just to make sure, she will not fall in love with him.
To A fan: I know what you did.
