James arrived home after his night in the tunnels. He walked into the house looking for Regina and Henry. "Regina, Henry" he called out. "James" he heard someone answer. Regina came into view. She ran up to him and hugged him. "I was so worried. You weren't answering your phone" Regina said. James pulled out of the hug and looked at Regina stroking her face. "I know. I'm sorry. I was on my way home last night when the ground shook and I must have hit my head because the last thing I remember is waking up in my car and it was morning" James lied. Regina looked at him concerned. "Are you ok" she asked. James nodded. "I have a little headache but other than that I feel fine" he said. He looked around. "Where's Henry" he asked. "Upstairs. He won't talk to me" she said. "Why" James asked. "I want to seal the mines too make sure no one finds out what's down there" Regina said. James looked at her worried. Did she know about Maleficent somehow?
"What do you mean" James asked. Regina looked around her to make sure Henry wasn't listening. "The coffin. It's down there remember" she said. James nodded his head. "Right the coffin" he said. "I don't want anyone like your brother snooping around and finding it" she said. "David won't find out about it. He doesn't even think there's anything down there but you might be right. We should seal it up" he said. He had other ways to get down into the mines and visit his mother like the elevator in the library. Sealing it up prevented David from finding their mother and turning her against James again. He wasn't going to lose their mother. James's phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket, looked at it and answered it. "Paul" he said. "James you told med to give you updates about your brother. He's heading to the hospital and that school teacher you told me he's obsessed with is there. Do you want me to stop him" Paul asked. "No I'll take care of it. Thank you for letting me know" James aid hanging up the phone.
"What happened" Regina asked. "Looks like David can't leave well enough alone. He's heading to hospital and Snow is there" he said. Regina gasped. "We have to do something. We can't just let them get together. That would defeat the whole purpose of this curse" she said. James nodded his head and rubbed Regina's shoulders comfortingly. "Don't worry we have our secret weapon" he said. Regina smiled evilly. "Of course. I think Kathryn's at work" she said. "Perfect. I'll go pay her a visit. When I get home it will just be you me and Henry. We'll do something like watch a movie together or go out to eat. Something as a family" he said. Regina shook her head. "He won't talk to me" she said looking away from her husband. James turned her head to look at him. "I promise when I get home we will get him to talk to us" he said. Regina nodded her head. "Go deal with David first. We'll deal with Henry later" Regina said giving him a kiss. "I love you" she said. "I love you too" he said leaving.
James arrived at the office Kathryn worked at. He walked in and smiled at her. "Hello Kathryn" James said. "James can I help you with something" Kathryn asked. James nodded his head. "Actually you can" he said. He pulled a photo out of his coat and handed it to her. She took it from him. "I wanted to talk to you about David. I'm worried about him" he said. Kathryn looked at the photo and remembered that moment fondly. It was of them on their wedding day with James and Regina who were the best man and the maid of honor. "I remember David was so nervous about the wedding. He almost didn't go through with it. I had to convince him to" James said. Kathryn looked up at James. "What happened between the two of you? You guys were so close" she asked. James shook his head. "It's a long and complicated story. I've tried to approach him about just letting go of the past but he won't. I miss my brother" James said faking that he was close to tears.
"I'm sorry" Kathryn said standing up and giving James a hug. "David's been acting weird and since he won't talk to me I thought maybe he talked to you" James said. "He hasn't talked to me. He's been very distant with me lately to" Kathryn said. "I'm worried he might be getting himself into trouble or something" James said. "Why did someone say something" Kathryn asked. James shook his head. "No it's just that he's the deputy and after what happened in the woods to him being attacked and everything I'm worried about him" James lied. This whole "caring brother" thing wasn't so hard. Kathryn was eating it up hook line and sinker. "He hasn't talked to me about it. Neither has Emma. I just wish they would talk to me" Kathryn said. James nodded. "I wish they would talk to somebody. They've been isolating me and Regina when all we're trying to do is help" James said. "It's almost my lunch break maybe I could talk to him" Kathryn said. "I know where he is" James said.
At the hospital David was waiting for Nurse Gomez to get him the files. He wanted to see all the information they had on Paul. He didn't trust him and especially didn't trust that James and Regina were letting him live with them. It was said considering back home Fredrick was a good person. "Deputy Nolan" someone called which pulled him out of his thoughts. David turned around and saw Sean standing there. "Sean hi. How are Ashley and the baby" David asked. Sean smiled. "They're great. We're just getting settled into our new place. I'm just here to see if I can get a job maybe as the janitor or something" Sean said. "You got a new place" David asked. Sean nodded his head. "We kind of had to considering my dad said he wanted nothing to do with us or the baby. We got a small apartment on the other side of town with the little money I had. I need to find a job so that I can support Ashley and Alexandra" Sean said.
"I'm sure your father will come around. He loves you and just wants what's best for you" David said though he didn't agree with Sean's father. He could never imagine turning his back on Emma like that even if she did get pregnant as a teenager. He would be more focused on finding the unlucky guy who got his little girl pregnant. "I hope he does come around. He told me if I still wanted to live at home I had to give up the baby. He won't have me embarrassing the family. I left and chose Ashley and Alexandra" Sean said. "I think you made the right decision. Don't worry what him or anyone else says. Just focus on being the best father you can be to Alexandra" David said. Sean smiled at him. "Thanks" he said. David nodded his head. "If you need a job come down to the station I'm sure Graham could find something for you" David said. "Really" Sean asked. David nodded again. "You can call me David by the way" he said. Sean nodded and saw Dr. Whale pass by. "I gotta go. See you later David" Sean said.
"Here are the files for you Deputy Nolan" Nurse Gomez said handing David the files. "Thanks" David said. He made his way to the exit when he heard his name called. "David" the voice he would know anywhere called from behind him. He turned around and smiled. "Mary Margaret. How are you" he asked. "I'm fine I'm just helping out a little bit. I was going to go on lunch. Your welcome to join me if you want" Mary said. David smiled and nodded. He would never turn down spending time with his wife. They went over to a table and sat down. David took off his coat and put it on the back of the chair. Mary looked at David and gulped. He was wearing a tight blue Henley that really showed off his muscles. He looked really good and it turned her on. She shook her head. She couldn't be thinking about him like this. He is a married man. They were just friends. "I didn't know you were volunteering today" David said. Mary took a bite of her food and nodded her head.
"I know I should take the weekend off and everything but I can't help it. Just knowing that there are people here who are sick and sad it breaks my heart so if I can take a little time out of my weekend to help them I will. Sometimes a smile and being kind to people goes a long way" Mary said. David smiled. That sounded like Snow. He missed her everyday and even though Mary Margaret wasn't really his wife just sitting here with her made his day. "You're a good person" David said. Mary shook her head. "I'm just trying to help out just like you being the deputy. I hate seeing people sad" she said. Instinctively David took her hand. "Well all of these patients and your students are lucky to have you in their lives" he said. He paused for a moment and then continued. "Me and Emma are lucky to have you in our lives" David said. Mary looked at him shocked. She didn't want to read too much into what David said but if she didn't know any better it sounded like maybe he wanted more than friendship.
She was probably reading too much into it. He's married. "David" someone called. They both looked up and saw Kathryn and James standing there. Kathryn had a smile on her face but James looked pissed. David let go of Mary's hand and stood up. "Kathryn James what are you guys doing here" David asked. "Your wife wanted to see you" James said looking between David and Mary and giving her a look. David was about to say something but Kathryn walked up to him with a book. "James reminded me of something" she said giving the book to David. It was a photo album. "It has all the moments of our life together" Kathryn said. David flipped through the album and stared at the pictures in shock. They looked so real. There were pictures of David and Kathryn when they were younger, at their wedding and even pictures of them with baby Emma. James and Regia did a good job creating his fake life. Kathryn pulled out another photo and handed it to David. It was a picture of a dog.
"You remember him right. That's Ajax. We got him when Emma was 4. We thought it would give Emma a sense of responsibility as she grew up but then you left a year later. I couldn't get rid of Ajax because he reminded me of you guys. He died a year ago" Kathryn said. David looked up from the photo to James. "Ajax was a good dog. Too bad Emma never really got to spend time with him" James said smiling at David. David just glared at him. "Don't you remember David" Kathryn asked. David looked at Kathryn and smiled at her. "Yea of course I do. How could I forget Ajax" he said. Mary got up from her seat. "I'm going to go. I have a lot of stuff to do" Mary said. "I'll walk with you" James volunteered. Mary nodded her head. "OK" she said walking away. "Bye David" she said. "Bye" David said smiling at her. David wanted to stop her from walking away with his brother. He knew James was going to do or say something bad to her and he wanted to protect her but he couldn't just leave Kathryn there.
James and Mary walked in together in silence. When they were out of sight James turned to Mary. "You need to stop what your doing" he said. "What do you mean" she asked. "The way you are so desperately clinging to my brother is pathetic. Everyone sees it. He's a happily married man who has a family and Kathryn's family so I'm going to say this only once. Stop trying to ruin his family" James said. Mary shook her head. "I wasn't" she started but James interrupted her. "David is too nice and naïve to tell you that he wants nothing to do with you but you keep inserting yourself into his life. It's not a good look. You don't stand a chance why would David ever downgrade himself to the likes of you? My suggestion just move on with your life. It's never going to happen" James said. He looked at Mary and she looked like she was about to cry. He smiled. "I have to go" she said the tears threating to fall. James nodded. "I think you better" he said. He watched as she got on the elevator. Maybe that would get it through her head to stay away from David. They were never going to be together again as long as James had anything to say about it.
