David sat in his truck looking at pictures of Emma on his phone. He swiped through pictures of when she was a baby sleeping in a crib that it took him hours to figure out how to put together. Then there was when she was three sitting on Santa Clause's lap. Not the real one of course. This land like to have them in the mall for the kids. He remembered her asking Santa for a pony and more dollies so her and daddy had new ones to play tea time with. He smiled at the memory and how cute he thought his daughter was and how he wished Snow had been there to see her. Then he saw the photo when Emma was four and was starting preschool. That day was a nightmare with Emma not letting go of David's leg because she was scared he was going to leave her there and never come back. He had to explain that he would be back later in the day. Even with how hard it was to get Emma to go to preschool he smiled at the memory. He smiled at all the memories he had with Emma his little princess who was now grown.
David then got sad thinking about how bad he messed everything up. Emma was stuck in the mines possibly dead and she was only in there because he stood in her way of happiness again. He didn't know if he would ever see her again and the last thing they said to each other was during a fight. That broke his heart. He would do anything to take that fight with her back. He hoped he still had the chance. The tears threatened to fall as there was a knock on his window. David looked up and saw Mary standing there. He got out of his truck and Mary hugged him. "I'm so sorry. Ruby told me what happened. I wanted to see if you were OK" she said. She pulled back from the hug and saw David look sadder than she ever saw him before. He shook his head. "I've been better" he said. "Let's go for a walk" she said and David nodded following after her. They walked and David told Mary everything that happened. Talking to her was always so easy just like it was with Snow.
"It's not your fault you know" Mary said. David shook his head in disagreement. "My daughter hates me because I can't accept the fact that she is growing up and the only reason she ran into the mine was to get away from me. That fight was the last thing we said to each other and I may never see her again. Maybe it would have been better if her mother would have raised her instead" he vented. Mary grabbed his arm stopping him from walking. "You know none of that is true. Emma adores you and even though you guys had this fight you will make up because you will find her Henry and Archie. Kathryn's here now and that is what is important" she said. David looked at her in confusion for a moment before remembering that everyone here believed Kathryn was Emma's mother. "Besides I think you did a pretty good job by yourself even though Kathryn was there in the beginning" Mary said. David smiled at her. "Thanks" he said. They continued walking.
"Listen I don't know what James said to you at the hospital but I just wanted to apologize. Whatever he said isn't true" David said. Mary shook her head and looked down at the ground. She took a deep breath. "Actually it is" Mary said. David stopped and looked at her but Mary looked away from him. "James was right when he said I liked you and it's wrong. Your married and you should be spending your time focusing on rebuilding your family and I'm just a distraction" she said. David took Mary's hand. "That's not true. This time we spend together just you and me or you and Emma or the three of us together that means everything to me" David said. Mary couldn't believe what she was hearing. Was it possible David felt the same way about her that she felt about him? "David your married" she reminded him. David shook his head. "That marriage is a sham. It's not real. This you and me. This is real" David said desperate to be with his wife again. Screw the curse. He would deal with the consequences later.
David and Mary stared at each other longingly. They both wanted each other so bad. "There he is. David" David heard someone call out. It was James who was standing with Kathryn. James once again looked pissed. David let go of Mary's hands. Kathryn ran up to him and hugged him. "Kathryn what are you doing here" he asked. "I know your working right now but I went to the station and you weren't there. I heard the news about this hole in the ground and figured you might be here and I just wanted to give you this" she said handing David a basket. "What is it" David asked. "I baked your favorite muffins" Kathryn said. David gave her a fake smile. "Thanks" he said. "Of course. I love spoiling my husband" she said surprising David with a kiss. Mary started to walk away. "Mary Margaret" David called out. She turned around. "Thanks" he said. She nodded and walked away. She looked at James who gave her a warning glare that said to stay away from David. She walked away faster.
"Where's Emma? I've been trying to call her but she hasn't answered any of my calls" Kathryn said. "David didn't tell you. Emma thought it would be a good idea to investigate the hole and went into the mines. She brought Henry and Archie with her now they're all trapped" James said. Kathryn looked at David. "Is that true" she asked. "They are stuck down there but it wasn't Emma's fault" he said glaring at James. "I don't care who's fault it is someone just needs to save them" she said. David looked at her. "I'm working on it. I promise I will find a way to save all three of them" he said walking away. David truly believed he would get another chance to apologize to Emma. He would find her and Henry and Archie. That's what he did best. Finding people especially his family. After this was all over and Emma Henry and Archie were safe again he would be with his wife no matter the consequences.
