Hot Chocolate Recipe
Yor put the different ingredients and Camilla's recipe on the kitchen table. She looked at the time. Loid was at the hospital and Anya was at school. She had taken the afternoon off to be able to prepare everything.
Yor had decided to surprise Loid and Anya. When they would come home, they would be greeted with a cup of hot chocolate that she would have cooked. It was their first Christmas as a family, she hoped to please them and to give their home a warm atmosphere for the holidays.
She had this idea when she heard Camilla talking about this new hot chocolate recipe she had made for her boyfriend. Yor had asked her what this recipe was and after begging her to teach it to her, Yor finally felt ready to make this hot chocolate alone.
She took the ingredients, mixed them and cooked them. Yet, she felt like something was missing. Camilla's recipe was delicious, but Yor wanted it to be exceptional for Loid and Anya. She looked at what was left. Maybe she could improvise something. She hesitated. She had managed to master the recipe and it was risky to improvise something. Especially for Loid and Anya. She did not want to make them sick.
However, she had this recipe idea in mind and she was sure she could do it. She had enough ingredients left to try. She rolled up her sleeves and started work. Cream, milk, vanilla, chocolate, she felt inspired and the recipe was clear in her head. It was not the first time she improvised in the kitchen. She did this often when she and Yuri were kids. Yuri had always loved her culinary inventions and she hoped Loid and Anya would like it too.
She heard the sound of the lock. She looked at the clock hung on the kitchen wall and she smiled. They were right on time. The door opened and Anya ran in.
"Haha ! We are back !" She exclaimed happily.
She threw her schoolbag on the floor and ran towards Bond to take him in her arms. The dog licked her face and Anya burst out laughing. Loid entered and closed the door behind him. He picked up Anya's schoolbag and put it on one of the chairs in the dining room. Yor leave the kitchen and greeted them with a huge smile.
"Loid, Anya, I have a surprise for you."
Loid opened his eyes wide and Anya looked at her excitedly.
"A suprise !" She said. "What is it ?"
"Go to the living room and I'll bring it to you."
They both sat down on the couch. Anya swung her legs and hummed :
"A surprise, a surprise."
Yor returned to the kitchen. She poured the hot chocolate into three cups and added the marshmallows. She smiled, proud of the result. She put the cups on a tray and headed for the living room. She put the tray on the table and gave the cups to Loid and Anya. They both eyed them suspiciously.
"Did you make this hot chocolate ?" Loid asked.
Yor nodded, embarrassed. She did not blame them for reacting this way. After all, this was not the first time they'd gotten sick because of her cooking despite her best efforts. Even Bond was suspicious of what she was cooking to him.
"It's a recipe I invented."
"I have homework to do," Anya said.
She rose from the couch to go to her bedroom but Loid stopped her, he grabbed her arm and made her sit down again. He smiled at Yor to reassure her.
"I'm sure it's very good."
Anya sniffed her cup and her and Loid took a sip. They opened their eyes wide, surprised.
"It's too good !" Anya exclaimed.
"It's delicious Yor," Loid said.
Anya downed her cup in one gulp, while Loid tasted his. Yor smiled tenderly and held back tears of joy. She had succeeded, she thought. By inventing this hot chocolate, it was what she wanted. Please her family and make them happy.
