The signpost read 'New York, 10 miles', and Ryo sighed.

Dee glanced at his lover, sitting in the passenger seat. "Okay, that didn't sound like a happy sigh."

"Because it wasn't." Ryo stared moodily through the windscreen at the heavy traffic on the freeway.

"How come? You should be happy; we've just had a blissful five-day break enjoyin' the fall scenery."

"Exactly! We've had that, it's in the past, and now we're almost home again."

"You don't want to get home?"

"Get home?" Ryo shrugged. "I guess. It would beat being stuck in traffic, but I don't want to GO home."

"Isn't that the same thing?"

"Not even close. Getting home will be a relief after miles of crawling along at snail's pace, but going home means leaving our vacation behind. Tomorrow we'll be back at work, and I'm not ready for that."

"You don't want to go back to work?" Dee was incredulous.

"Do you?"

"'Course not, when do I ever? But I figured you'd be itchin' to get back to solvin' crimes."

"Well I'm not. I love my job, but sometimes I wish we got more vacation time. Five days wasn't enough."

"Yeah, I know what you mean."
