David Mephisto and Maleficent all stood over James's bed watching James who was in the middle of a coughing fit. Maleficent sat down in the bed next to James cradling his head. "What happened" Mephisto asked. "A bunch of townspeople broke into the castle to try to kill me James and mom. I was able to stop most of them but one of them had magic" David answered. Maleficent looked at James who was sweating and struggling to stay awake. "Where is this intruder? I want to talk to him" she said. "He's dead. I killed him" David said. Maleficent nodded her head and looked back down at James who's head was on her lap. Mephisto looked at David shocked. "You killed him" he said shocked. David nodded his head. "Well there's the shock of the century" Mephisto said turning his attention to his sick son who just started coughing again. "Is there anything I can get you honey" Maleficent asked. James shook his head.
"James why aren't you healing yourself" David asked. "I don't know why but I can't. I've been trying" James said. David looked to his parents. "Why can't he heal himself" he asked. Mephisto raised his hand and a sword appeared in it. He examined it and scoffed at what he saw. "Figures" Mephisto said. "What is it" Maleficent asked. "There's wolfsbane on this sword" Mephisto said. David James and Maleficent all looked shocked. "That's poisonous to dragons" David said. Mephisto nodded. "The poison must be going through James's system right now preventing any of his dragon powers from healing him" he said. "Well there must be a cure somewhere" David said. Mephisto nodded. "There is but it's rare and it's in the hands of King Midas" he said. "Well then let's go get it" David said going to leave the room but Mephisto grabbed his arm stopping him. "I will handle Midas. You stay here with your brother and mother. The last thing James needs is you screwing this up" he said.
"I'm going to get the cure from King Midas" David said pulling his arm out of his father's grip. "No your not. Your going to stay here. That's an order not a suggestion" he said. "Will you two stop fighting for two seconds? James needs that cure. Someone has to go get it" Maleficent said. Mephisto nodded. "Your mother is right. Now grow up, do as your told and stay here" Mephisto said. David glared at his father who walked out of the room. David was about to follow when his mother called out to him. "David stay with your brother. I'm going to make a potion that will ease the pain" Maleficent said. David turned around and saw that James had fallen asleep. He nodded. "Ok I'll just sit here and do nothing while my brother dies in front of me" David said. Maleficent lightly placed James head on the pillow careful not to wake him up. She walked up to David. "You are doing something by sitting here and watching your brother" she said. Maleficent left the room leaving David alone with James.
In Storybrooke the party was just about over and most of the guests had left. David was in the kitchen washing dishes aggressively rubbing the brillo pad on the plates. He was upset about Mary turning him down. When he imagined finding his wife after 18 years this wasn't how he imagined it. James and Regina really did screw him over. Emma walked into the kitchen and saw her father aggressively washing the plate she smiled. "You might want to ease up on or that Brillo Pad's gonna press charges" she said. David jumped back in surprise and saw Emma standing in the doorway. "Hi Emma" David said. "Dad are you OK" Emma asked walking over to him. David nodded. "The dishes were piling up so I thought I'd clean them" he said. "Does this have anything to do with whatever you and mom talked about outside" Emma asked. David looked at his daughter shocked. "I saw you guys talking outside through the window" she said answering his unasked question.
"We just… I just…" David said trying to find the words to explain what happened. "I'm pretty sure I know what you guys were talking about and I think your both doing the right thing" Emma said. David nodded. "I know she's right. I have to end this fake relationship with Kathryn if I want any sort of chance again with your mother. I just don't want to hurt her. She's a good person and doesn't deserve that" David said. "Ending this marriage is right for both of you" Emma said. David nodded. "I know. The party's over so after I'm done in here I will talk to Kathryn" he said. David thought for a moment. "How do I do it in a way that will be the least hurtful to Kathryn" he asked. Emma shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know but you definitely need to stop cleaning. Besides I'm the wrong person to ask for relationship advice. I haven't really had a successful one ever. My two major relationships have failed but like you always told me you have to fight for true love no matter the cost. You and mom are true loves and I hope me and Graham have a chance to be even half of what you and mom are" Emma said.
"I don't know if you and Graham are true loves but I know that he really cares about you and that's all I really care about" David said. Emma smiled at him and nodded. "I care about him too" she said. She noticed her dad looked sad. Emma put a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Stay strong, you'll figure all this out" Emma said. David nodded. "I know I will" he said. Emma looked behind her and saw Kathryn sitting on the couch in the living room. "Everyone's gone. Looks like your going to have to figure out what to tell her sooner rather than later. Graham's taking me out. Let me know how it goes" Emma said. David nodded and hugged her. "I love you princess" he said. "I love you too dad" Emma said. She left the kitchen. David took a deep breath. Here goes nothing he thought. He let out a sigh and walked out of the kitchen and into the living room to Kathryn. This was a conversation they had to have and it was better to have it sooner rather than later.
