In the enchanted forest, David looked at himself in the mirror and sighed. It had been about two weeks since that night with James and he missed his brother. Everything went to hell because he made a mistake. On their birthday no less. Some birthday it turned out to be. He was just trying to help. He had no idea their father would find out and do what he did. David wished more than anything that he could go back in time and fix what happened but unfortunately that wasn't possible. He lost his brother and know he was in this crappy situation where he had to marry a woman he didn't love. If it hadn't been for the fact that his mother was still here and his father would definitely hurt her he would run away. His mother was all he had left now. There was a knock at the door. "David, Abigail is waiting for you downstairs" Mephisto said walking to his son. David looked at him in the mirror and nodded. "I'm ready" he said walking toward the door but his father grabbed his arm.
"There's some things we need to go over" Mephisto said to David fixing his doublet. David stepped away from his father. "Get the hell off me. I'm going through with this stupid wedding. What else could you possibly want" he asked. Mephisto grabbed David roughly. "Watch your mouth David" Mephisto said. David glared at his father trying to get out of his grasp. "Or what? You'll do the same thing to me that you did to James. Trust me that would be doing me a favor because I wouldn't have to deal with you anymore" he said. Mephisto slapped David hard across the face. "You know we don't mention that name in this castle" Mephisto said to David in a warning tone. David pulled himself out of his father's grasp. "Why not? James is your son too and what you did to him was horrible" he said. Mephisto shook his head. "That boy is no son of mine. He's a disappointment to this family much like you but unfortunately for me I have to put up with you" Mephisto said.
"How is James a disappointment to the family? What because for once in his life he chose to do something for himself instead of what you wanted him to do" David asked. Mephisto shook his head again. "That boy made his decision. Now he has to face the consequences" Mephisto said. This infuriated David. "HIS NAME IS JAMES. THE LEAST YOU COULD DO IS SHOW HIM SOME RESPECT AND…" David started to say but was cut off when his father waved his hand and David stopped talking. David tried to speak but he couldn't. Mephisto smiled at his son. "Finally you've done me a favor and shut up. You talk too much. I will not discuss that boy anymore and if you know what's good for you and your mother you won't either" Mephisto said. David just glared at his father. Mephisto went back to fixing David's doublet. "Now here is what's going to happen. Your going to walk downstairs into that courtyard and go see your future wife" Mephisto said.
"You will escort her to your engagement party at King Midas's castle. You will be the perfect fiancé to Abigail. Do you understand" Mephisto asked waving his hand so David could speak. David didn't say anything knowing what his father wanted him to say. His father roughly grabbed David and pulled him closer to him. "Where are your manners? When I ask you a question you answer" Mephisto said. "Screw you" David said. Mephisto let go of David and looked at him evilly. "You will show me respect even if it kills you" Mephisto said waving his hand again and the jewel that was used to torture dragons appeared on David's chest. He yelled out in pain and fell to his knees. Mephisto smiled and walked over to his son. He shook his head. "I take pity on you, give you a place to live your life, feed you, cloth you and this is the thanks I get. You will respect me" Mephisto said. "Please stop it" David begged to his father as the pain was becoming too great.
Mephisto grabbed David's hair and roughly pulled his head so he was looking up at him. Mephisto got inches from David's face. "You're nothing more than that pitiful little kid who couldn't do anything right. You're a disgrace to this family. You're going to do what your told without argument or next time I'll make the pain ten times worse and your mother will feel it to. Now let's try this again. You're going to be the perfect fiancé to Abigail. Do you understand" Mephisto asked. "Yes I understand. Now please take it off" David cried out. Mephisto shook his head and roughly yanked David's head. "I'm not done yet. What name is never going to come out of your mouth again" Mephisto asked. David said nothing. Mephisto yanked his head roughly again. "Answer the question. Don't piss me off David. I'm warning you" he said. "James OK. I won't say James's name again now please stop it" David begged as the pain was becoming excruciating.
"I think you learned your lesson" Mephisto said waving his hand and the jewel disappeared off David's chest. David felt like he could breath again. Mephisto leaned down close to David's ear. "That was just a taste of what your mother will experience if you disobey me or talk back to me again" Mephisto said throwing David to the floor. David got up from the floor slowly and looked at his father. "Now David when you get to King Midas's castle you will give him these" Mephisto said handing David a bag of jewels. David looked at his father confused. "You're giving King Midas jewels. He's already got all the gold he could want" he said. Mephisto shook his head. "Those jewels are enchanted. When he touches them he will be under my control" he said. David didn't want to this. The last thing he wanted to do was play any part in helping his father get what he wanted but if he didn't listen his mother would pay the price. David nodded his head and didn't argue.
"Not a word about our conversation to your mother. She doesn't need to know. Let her believe you found your "true love" with Abigail" Mephisto said putting up air quotes for true love and rolling his eyes. "What a joke" he said. David believed his true love was out there some where she just wasn't Abigail. Now he'd never find her because of this stupid marriage to Abigail. David sighed. "Mom will never know. She believes I actually love Abigail" David said. Mephisto smiled wrapping his arm around David. "You've played your part well. Continue to play it. Is that understood" he asked. David nodded. "Yes. I'll continue playing my part" David said. Mephisto nodded. "Good. Now let me give you a little bit of fatherly advice. Try not to be so…" Mephisto stopped himself trying to find the right word. "You. Your not lovable and no one will ever love you. We actually want this marriage to go though" he said. David had to bite his tongue to keep from saying anything that would piss off his father.
"I will try" David finally managed to say. "Good. Now you have to go see your fiancé" Mephisto said. David nodded and walked out of the room. He walked out into the courtyard where Abigail was standing with his mother and King Midas. Maleficent walked up to David smiling. She hugged him. "My baby boy is all grown up. You look so handsome" she said. David pulled back and smiled at his mother. "Thanks mom" he said. He saw Abigail standing across the way and walked over to her extending his hand for her to take which she did. Mephisto walked out into the courtyard and over to King Midas with Maleficent following behind. They walked up to their parents. "Let this mark the beginning of a new era, of a new kingdom, united and strong" King Midas said. Mephisto nodded. "An era of mutual prosperity" he said. David rolled his eyes. He hated going along with his father's stupid plan. "Abigail, David, as I stay to work out the particulars of our new land with Mephisto and Maleficent, go to your new home at my palace. We'll be along shortly and the celebration will be beyond your dreams" King Midas said.
"Thank you, Daddy" Abigail said. She walked up to her father. "I trust that you know best" she said. Mephisto walked up to David and pulled him over to the side. "You're making the right decision, David. This is going to be beneficial for all of us" Mephisto smiled evilly. David looked at his father trying to figure out what he was up to. Why did we want this marriage to go through so bad? Mephisto held out his hand for David to shake. David looked at his father's hand then back up at his father. "Thank you, father" David said shaking his father's hand. Abigail walked up to them. "Come. I'm tired of waiting" Abigail said. David smiled at her. "Then our journey shall begin. I thought we might take the scenic route" David said. Abigail said nothing and just walked away from David. Mephisto leaned in close to David so only he could hear. "Do better and smile more, David. You're on the road to true love" Mephisto whispered than started laughing.
"I'm sorry. I couldn't say that with a straight face" he said. "Anyway, put the jewels in King Midas's treasure room. I'll take care of the rest" Mephisto said. David looked down at the bag in his hand and then started following Abigail. They headed to King Midas's castle in a carriage toward their engagement party. High up in the trees Snow White smiled down at the carriage that passed. She saw them stop because of the tree she put in the road. Snow smiled. Showtime. David didn't know it yet but his father was right. He was on the road to true love.
