Return to Mako

The next day, Zac was up early with Bella, Mimmi and Lyla. Lyla was now excited and looking forward to meeting with Evie again for the lunch on Saturday. Bella and Mimmi were feeling concerned about having to fuse as one.

"I still don't think it's a good idea," said Bella. "We rarely form a fusion unless it's for an emergency situation."

"But fusion is fun!" exclaimed Lyla. "Why don't we try it out on today's mission?"

"Well, I think we will have to form a mini fusion for the task ahead. How about you fuse with me Lyla, just the two of us?" said Mimmi.

"Oh cool! I'd love to see what you two will end up creating," answered Zac.

Zac and the mermaids left the house and swam out to Mako Island. This time, they remained close to the beach, and they approached the same rocky outcrop that Zac had seen the first night he transformed into a merman.

"Hey, I know this place! Doesn't this have a cave or something?" Zac asked.

"Yeah, it does but only on a full moon. But the next one is not for another two weeks, so that's why there's just a rock there." Lyla replied.

"Bella, why don't you use your moon ring to open up the cave?" suggested Mimmi.

Bella proceeded to lift her hand and held the moon ring towards the rock. It soon began to glow, and the magic soon activated which opened up the cave.

"Now you stay out here whilst Zac, Mimmi and I go inside." Lyla announced.

Zac, Lyla and Mimmi entered the cave and walked towards the end, eventually reaching the same trident symbol that Zac saw on his first night.

"I'm not touching that thing again. I don't want to fall back into the pool again," said Zac.

"You're not going to fall into the pool," replied Mimmi.

"But how can you be so sure?" asked Zac.

"Well, didn't you enter this place on a full moon?" questioned Lyla.

"Yeah, but I don't see how that makes a difference" said Zac.

"You honestly don't know anything about the moon cycles!" Lyla announced. "A full moon is totally different from any other moon phase, it has so much more power!"

Lyla was the first to touch the trident symbol, and Zac saw that it had no effect. Mimmi then reached over and also placed her hand on the symbol.

"Come on Zac, we need you to press the symbol with us" said Mimmi. Zac was still reluctant to approach the other two, but he later gave in and placed his hand on the symbol with Mimmi and Lyla. The three were suddenly transported into a giant chamber, which had a large computer screen along with a keypad that had numerous symbols on it.

"This must be one of the control rooms that the Homeworld mermaids used to power all the tech they erected on Mako," announced Mimmi.

"So what is the task we have to do here?" asked Zac.

"We have to find a special beetle that made its home inside the control panel," said Lyla.

Zac, Lyla and Mimmi split up as they searched the room to figure out how to operate the control panel. As they were looking around, Mimmi could feel something strange. "Guys, we ought to get out of here fast!" she screamed.

"I bet you're overreacting again," said Lyla. "I'm sure it's just some old screws coming loose."

Mimmi was right that there was something wrong inside the chamber. A shark like creature suddenly burst right through the computer screen, and Zac panicked. Mimmi first tried to use her wind manipulation powers to try and blow the shark creature away, but it had no effect. Zac was the first to run away, and tried to exit the chamber but was struggling. The shark creature turned towards Zac and was eyeing him.

"Help! This creature's going to eat me!" screamed Zac.

"Mimmi, I think now is a great time for us to form Cleopatra." Lyla said.

Mimmi sighed but then realised the danger they were all in and proceeded to grab Lyla's hand. "Ok, as you wish."

As the two mermaids held each other's hands, Zac looked behind and saw a bright white glow enveloping Lyla and Mimmi. After several seconds the white glow faded, and Zac saw the two were no longer there. In their place was a single mermaid, a brunette who had a similar appearance to Mimmi but with a different hairstyle. Zac also saw that this mermaid didn't have a moon ring, instead possessing a light blue amulet that seemed to be the same colour as a typical moon ring.

The new mermaid flicked out her amulet, which seemed to unleash a high-pitched sound. The sound irritated the shark creature, and it fled back inside the computer screen.

After the shark creature had disappeared, the new mermaid stayed in place and reached out to Zac. Zac was nervous seeing this new mermaid, and called out "Er, do you know who I am?"

The new mermaid laughed gently, and spoke up "All you want to do, is see me turn into…"

"A fusion!" Zac yelled out.

The new mermaid nodded her head and replied "Yes, that is us. Cleopatra, or Cleo for short. We are the fusion of Lyla and Mimmi."

Cleo and Zac left the chamber and walked out of the cave, meeting Bella back on the surface. Zac noticed that Bella was not surprised or shocked to see Cleo.

"I see you helped your teammates fuse. Good work Zac," said Bella. "By the way, where is that beetle you were supposed to retrieve for me?"

"Oh shit, I don't have it!" gasped Cleo. The fusion became unstable, and Zac noticed the same white glow as before. In an instant Mimmi and Lyla returned to their normal selves.

"Lyla, you got distracted again!" shouted Mimmi.

"Hey, you were the one getting carried away with that high pitched squeal!" yelled Lyla.

"Oh wait, I have the beetle right here." Zac said. "I saw it sitting on the ground right before that shark creature was about to eat me."

Zac then reached into his pocket and took out the beetle, before handing it over to Bella.

"Ok then let's get back home and keep this beetle safe. We're going to need it in the future," announced Bella.
