The Lighthouse
Fitz was staring out the window, staring at Earth but his mind was miles away, thinking of Ben's death.
Another death that he couldn't prevent, another life he couldn't save. It felt like a pattern of being unable to prevent death and violence, despite Fitz's best efforts.
Fitz was still wallowing when The Doctor walked up beside him, staring down at the Earth.
"You know, I've looked at the Earth quite a few times. It's…heartbreaking, to see it torn apart," The Doctor said softly, staring at the remains of Earth floating in space.
"How did it happen?" Fitz asked softly.
"I don't know, but I can see why Robin was so distressed and why Enoch risked so much to send your friends here. I will find out what happened, so we can prevent it. Then, I will deal with Kasius," The Doctor said, narrowing his eyes.
"You think you can?" Fitz asked and The Doctor smiled.
"I've outsmarted far worse than Kasius, Leopold. I've already figured out how to take away his power," The Doctor and Fitz looked at his in surprise. "The Inhumans. Why do you think they haven't banded together yet?"
"Because they can't. Kasius controls when and where they have their powers," Fitz pointed out and The Doctor nodded.
"Exactly son, exactly. The implants Kasius forces on them make a revolution impossible. But something like my Sonic Screwdriver can easily disable something that small. Once we get your friends, out, I use my sonic to disable his implants. Then, the humans take back control over their lives," The Doctor said with a smile.
"Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke," Fitz said, almost laughing at the thought.
"Agreed, Leopold. But until then, all we can do is wait for Kasius to sell us your friend. We just need to be patient," The Doctor said and there was a pause between father and son. "In the meantime, I'm sure there's a serving girl who would like to see you. Just don't get caught."
Fitz was silent for a long moment before nodding, turning and waking off. As he saw his son disappear around the corner, The Doctor thought with a bit of sadness and nostalgia that he truly was the grandson of Rory Williams and Amy Pond.
No sooner had the thought entered The Doctor's mind than Enoch walked up behind.
"Doctor, we have a problem."
Not long after, Fitz was roaming the corridors of the Lighthouse when he rounded the corner and froze. There, standing a few feet away was Jemma.
She likewise froze as she saw him. Then, their eyes never leaving other, they slowly began walking towards each other, their steps mirroring each other as if they were in a dance no one else understood.
The dance was broken when a servant walked into the corridor and Fitz stepped back, trying not to be noticed as the servant walked over to Jemma.
"We must hurry, a situation has arisen."
Jemma nodded at the other servant, looking back at Fitz longingly before following. Once they were gone, Fitz's shoulder slumped as he looked down.
Torn apart, once again.
"Leopold," Fitz almost jumped as River appeared behind him. "Something's happened."
"What now?" Fitz almost groaned, wondering what else could go wrong.
"Another buyer arrived a few minutes ago," River explained and the look on his mother's face caused a pit of dread to form in her stomach.
"Someone with more wealth than me?"
"And far more feared: Kasius's brother," River said grimly.
"Brilliant," The Doctor grumbled as he and Enoch walked through the corridors. "I've heard of the Kasius family. If Kasius's brother is anything like his father, this will not go well."
"I see you've heard the news, Sweetie," River said as she and Fitz joined them in walking down the corridor.
"Yes. And if Kasius is desperate to return home - which we know he is - then no amount of money will convince him to sell Daisy to you, son," The Doctor said grimly.
"So what do we do now?" Fitz grumbled and The Doctor smiled.
"Rule 2: always have a plan B. I've had one since Kasius's little demonstration. River, tell our son what you noticed while Kasius had us watch Ben and May fight," The Doctor instructed.
"Aside from the implants Kasius uses to control his slaves, he has a laser grid barrier between the fighters and the spectators so the Inhumans can't attack while their powers are activated," River explained.
"Why is that important?" Fitz wondered.
"I told you my Sonic Screwdriver can take out the implants. What do you think it can do to the barrier?" The Doctor asked and Fitz understood then.
"You plan to take out the barrier during the fight," Fitz said and The Doctor nodded.
"And then we make our move," The Doctor promised.
"Let us hope everything goes according to plan," Enoch said, handing Fitz something folded in cloth, which Fitz quickly hid under his jacket.
"Enoch, I need you to do one last thing for me," Fitz said as he turned to the Chronicom.
Later, The Doctor, Fitz and River all took their seats, waiting for the fight to start. As they waited, they saw a Kree warrior with skin a darker shade of blue than Kasius walk through the door and begin talking to Kasius. The Doctor and River locked eyes, silently agreeing this must be Kasius's brother.
"This Destroyer better be what you say, or I'll be quick to remind you of the many shapes my anger takes," Kasius's brother said as the brothers walked over to the railing.
"Yes. You're always so quick to give a demonstration," Kasius said mockingly. "Perhaps now, I can present one of my own. The Destroyer is set to fight one of my most prized Inhumans."
"I have no desire to see one of your homegrown experiments fight," his brother cut Kasius off swiftly. "The Destroyer must face a Kree warrior. Your stray should suffice."
You could hear a pin drop as Sinara looked up sharply while Kasius had paled. And he wasn't the only one. The Doctor's plan had factored in Daisy fighting an Inhuman. Fighting Sinara made things much more difficult.
"Sinara's not prepared for battle," Kasius protested.
"Is she not your greatest warrior? You cower behind her as though she is," his brother mocked and Kasius's lips thinned. "Perhaps I misjudged you, and you no longer seek father's approval."
"Of course," Kasius finally said, looking like he'd swallowed something sour. "Sinara would be honored to fight."
Sinara looked as pleased by this as the rest of them. Fitz looked distressed as The Doctor and River exchanged a hopeless look, having a silent conversation.
What do we do now, Sweetie?
Stick to the plan, River. We'll just have to try and take out Sinara when we go for Daisy.
So your usual plan, then?
Basically.
Shaking her head in exasperation, River looked over at where Fitz was watching them worriedly. She mouthed 'it'll be fine' to him. Fitz looked uncertain but nodded.
A few feet away, Jemma silently watched the interaction between Fitz and these strange people, realizing they were working together.
How did he know them? Just another question she would have to ask when they got out of there.
Not long after, they all watched as Daisy was let into the arena, Kasius making one of his usual introductions as she walked in, lowering her hood that she'd been given. No doubt for dramatic effect.
"This puny girl is the Destroyer?" Kasius's brother asked unimpressed.
"Your rush to judgement has always been a shortcoming, brother. Allow me to turn off the Destroyer's Inhibitor, and then you shall see. Of course, before I unleash her, we must take precautions," Kasius said before activating the laser grid barrier. "Would you care to give the opening commencement?"
Sinara suddenly attacks, sending the two spheres she had used to kill Ben at Daisy. Daisy quickly jumped out of the way, narrowly avoiding the spheres as they crashed into the side of the wall before flying back into Sinara's hands. Kasius frowned while The Doctor, River, Fitz and Jemma tensed, realizing Sinara had gone rogue.
"It seems your stray is done taking orders," Kasius's brother noted.
Daisy then got up, Quaking Sinara into the wall. Sinara fell down to the floor, dropping the spheres as Daisy rushed her. Sinara got to her feet and struck her in the face twice, but this seemed to have no effect. Daisy tried to throw Sinara to the ground but the Kree quickly got back to her feet, trading blows with Daisy.
It was clear to everyone that, while Daisy was an incredibly skilled fighter, Sinara was in another league.
Worriedly, Fitz looked over to his parents. The Doctor caught his gaze, subtly pulling out his screwdriver. River reached into her dress, nodding at Fitz. Fitz released the breath he hadn't known he was holding. He looked back over at Jemma, who had been watching closely. At Fitz's nod, Jemma steeled herself, knowing what was coming.
They continued watching the fight for a moment before The Doctor raised his screwdriver towards the generator and turned it. The Generator sparked and The Doctor smiled as the grid vanished, leaving the spectators looking around in bewilderment.
Sinara and Daisy paused in their fight and that was when they struck. River pulled a gun out of her dress, immediately firing and getting Kasius's brother through the eye as Jemma stabbed Kasius through the neck. Fitz pulled out an ICER from his jacket, firing and knocking the others out as Daisy, taking advantage of Sinara's distraction, quaked her against the wall, knocking her out.
Daisy then used her powers to lift herself into the air until she was level with Kasius. Before she could Quake them, Kasius, clutching his wounded neck with one hand, managed to reactivate her Inhibitor. She fell back to the floor, landing painfully on her back.
The Doctor, River, Fitz and Jemma then fled, jumping off the balcony and onto a giant cube.
"Stop them!" Kasius ordered.
But The Doctor, once they were all off, used his screwdriver to reactive the barrier, creating a wall between them.
As they reached the floor, Fitz and Jemma turned to stare at each other, looking at each other with months' worth of emotion.
"I'm never leaving you again," Fitz declared and she smiled.
They then pulled to each other, sharing a passionate kiss. Behind then, Sinara was getting to her feet when they pulled apart and Fitz shot her with his ICER, knocking her out.
"Then marry me, Fitz," Jemma said and he turned back to her.
"Absolutely," Fitz said before they kissed again.
"Again with the kissing! You two are worse than your grandparents!" The Doctor complained as he and River helped Daisy to her feet.
"Who are these guys? And what is he talking about?" Daisy asked, slightly dazed as Fitz and Jemma pulled apart.
"Long story, I'll explain later," Fitz said as they began heading for the exit. "But just to say, I did propose earlier when Kasius had your hearing turned off."
"Of course you did," Jemma said in a placating voice as a Kree came rushing towards them only to get knocked out when Fitz shot it with his ICER.
"No, seriously, I did," Fitz said as they ran from the room.
And that's the end of 5x06. Still not a whole lot different, but that will start to change. Hope you enjoyed this chapter anyway.
