Summary: In her birthday, Kanan will find herself being dragged along the beach by Mari to see the surprise she has prepared her.

You make my heart flutter

The first timid sunrays of the morning sneak through the open window, tinting the bedroom with their golden tonalities.

The gentle breeze stroking her face as a featherlight caress against her skin, and the sound of the ocean in the background, slowly wake Kanan up from her peaceful slumber.

Kanan sighs softly before she tries to snuggle up to the body next to her only to notice how the spot is empty and the source of her warmth and which usually envelopes her slowly fades. Then, in the middle of her confusion, she hears the sound of stealth footsteps walking away.

She pops an eye open to see Mari disappearing through the bedroom's door, placing a finger over her lips as she winks at her before she turns around and leaves, swaying her hips in a hypnotizing way.

Kanan hears Mari's mischievous laugh echoing across their beach cabin as the blonde walks away, and she can't help but smile softly, her heart fluttering with the sound of her girlfriend's laugh.

She lets out a chuckle and gets out of their bed to follow Mari's steps.

She can't help but find herself completely trapped in the mesmerizing sight in front of her as soon as she gets out of the cabin and her bare feet touch the sand after had descended the last step of the stairs.

The sun baths her girlfriend's frame perfectly, making the blonde of her hair stand out even more in the backlight, almost feeling as if she was becoming one with it.

The gentle breeze blows her hair as well as her white silk dress in the air with the blue ocean surrounding her, coming to wet her feet and Kanan can only gasp at the beauty of it.

- Took you long enough – Mari says teasingly, turning slightly around to look at her with a smirk on her face before she sticks out her tongue at the blue haired girl – don't tell me you're still sleepy?

Mari says between giggles, making Kanan's heart flutter again, a smile present on her face hard to erase.

- Maybe – Kanan answers her slyly, walking towards her with slow steps, taking in the blonde's beauty and radiance.

- Should I help you to wake up then? – Mari says mischievously with a smirk on her face, making Kanan be the one laughing as she walks up where the blonde is standing.

- Maybe.

Mari lets out a loud laugh, warming Kanan's heart before she splashes some water at her.

- Better? More awake now? – Mari says between giggles, splashing more water at the blue haired girl.

- Yeah.

Kanan whispers as she stands right in front of the blonde, letting Mari's fingers brush her neck feathery before she pulls her into a sweet kiss.

They pull away slightly before Kanan surrounds Mari's waist to pull her into another sweet and deep kiss, feeling Mari smiling in it.

As the kiss ends, Kanan hears Mari's lovely giggle again.

- Calm down dolphin, there'd be time for that later – Mari purrs teasingly, tapping her finger down Kanan's chest before she reaches to take her hand in hers, grabbing it tightly – but before that…

She trails off, starting to run while dragging a confused Kanan with her along the beach.

- W-wait, where are we going? – Kanan asks out running along with Mari, their feet splashing in the water as the blonde's laugh gets mixed the marine breeze.

- You'll see soon!

Kanan can't help but follow her, a tender and happy smile taking over her features at the other girl's excitement and as her heart pounds loudly against her ribcage, matching Mari's laugh.

Soon, they reach a small cave that Kanan discovered years ago accidently, entering it to find a tablecloth spread on the ground with lighten candles in the middle of it and a cake resting on it.

- Surprise! – Mari says cheerfully, coming to a stop while smiling widely at Kanan.

The other girl can't help but gasp for the second time in such a short period of time, finding the display in front of her captivating.

She notices Mari approaching her to cup her cheek, her bright yellow eyes glinting with nothing but utter love and tenderness in them.

- Happy birthday, amore – the blonde says softly, wiping away with her thumb the timid tears that managed to escape Kanan's eyes.

- Thank you – Kanan whispers quietly, unable to get any other word out.

Mari smirks briefly at her girlfriend's sudden shyness, having accomplished her goal of surprising her before their lips melt in a tender kiss that seems to last an eternity.

- Now let's take a bite of the cake before the dessert and also your gift – Mari says while she drags Kanan towards the tablecloth and the cake resting on it.

- Dessert? But I thought…

Kanan trails off, furrowing her brows confused before seeing the mischievous spark glinting in Mari's bright yellow eyes, blushing at the implication of her girlfriend's words, much to the blonde's amusement.

- Ah, you're still as naïve as when we were younger, amore – Mari says between giggles as she takes a spoon of the cake to feed Kanan, winking at her while the other girl blushes even more profusely.

- M-Mari!

Kanan squeals while Mari's laugh reverberates against the cave's walls, making the blue haired girl's heart flutter with her lovely sound.

This is surely a lovely and perfect start of her birthday…
