Chapter 144 The Attack

The next day, Wraith was in the Capitol building keeping a keen eye out for the upcoming attack. Wraith had quietly gone to Governor Lancer and had told him to increase the number of guards and troops in the area and tell them to be on high alert. Lancer had been a bit hesitant about doing what Wraith had said, since he had gotten no word form Vlad about any threats or attacks, but Wraith had convinced him by reminding Lancer that there had been no alert about Youngblood and his crew attacking and taking the Capitol hostage. Lancer saw that Wraith made a good point and thought it was better to be safe then sorry, so he called in more troops and guards for the Capitol and to patrol the surrounding area. Wraith hoped that the increase in military forces and her presence would be enough to protect the civilians as well as put the attack to a quick stop. She also wished to get the ring from Phantom and the Rebels, but she was more concerned about the civilians.
Near the Capitol, Vicky found herself standing guard alongside Dash, Kwan, and Klemper. The job was very boring and the four Stormtroopers found themselves talking about their various misfortunes in the service of the Empire. Vicky told the others how she once held a fair good position of power, before she got in trouble with a official from the Capitol that got her demoted back to being a lowly Stormtrooper. She didn't go into any details about how she had acquired her position or how she had lost it due to Jazz and Wraith finding out about her slaughtering clones, and how she had tried to get rid of the them. Dash, Kwan, and Klemper told Vicky about all their encounters with the Rebels and how they always ended up getting beat up or injured. After telling their stories the four of them just sighed. Life was really unfair. The four of them wished for something exciting to happen to elevate their boredom and give them a chance to shine and show their skills.
Most of the troops in the area were under the command of Imperial Officer Sanderson. Sanderson had no idea why Lancer had asked for more troops or increased security, but he knew not to ask questions and just do as he was told. He sat in the Capitol security station monitoring his troops and the surrounding area.
At a nearby restaurant called the Nasty Burger, Danny sat with Maddie, Clockwork, Tucker, and Wulf watching the Capitol and all the people go about their business. Valerie was on the roof of another building watching everything and there were a few dozen Rebel agents scountered around the area monitoring the the area as well. Whatever the attack was they would be ready for it.
Up in the atmosphere the Strife was making it's way down to the city. Dark Laser ordered his crew to unleash a squad of Scarab-class starfighters and Vulture-class droid starfighters to begin the first wave of the attack. The squads would sever as the first waves of the attack as well as escorts for some modified CR25 troop carriers that would transport Dark Laser and his troops down to the city. The Strife would remain in the air and the crew would await further orders.
On the ground the civilians, along with the Stormtroopers and Rebels heard the sound of the approaching squads. Everyone looked up as the Scarabs and the Vulture Droids flew onto the scene and began to blast buildings and parts of the streets killing people and causing chaos! People and aliens began to run and scream for their lives as the Stormtroopers and other security forces went to work and began to fight the invaders. A few of the Vulture Droids flew down and changed into their walking mode to better attack civilians and Stormtroopers, with their blasters and their stomping legs.
"This is insane!" Yelled Tucker in shock as he saw a few CR25 troop carriers land onto the scene and Dark Laser's troops charged out to join the battle.
"Those are Dark Laser's forces." Said Maddie.
"Why would Dark Laser launch a direct attack on the Capitol?" Asked Danny.
"I'm afraid that Dark Laser and Vlad might be working together." Said Clockwork.
"What?!" Asked Danny.
"I believe this might be part of a plan to draw us out and get the Ring of Rage from us to resurrect Pariah Dark. Neither Dark Laser or Vlad cares about innocent civilians dying as long as they get what they want." Said Clockwork.
"But Wraith does care about the civilians and she ended up warning Jazz to stay away from the Capitol." Asked Danny reaching out with the Force to see if he could locate his clone.
"Do you sense her?" Asked Maddie.
"I do. Wraith is here and she is fighting right now." Said Danny.
Danny made sure no one was looking his way in the chaos as he went over to an alleyway, got behind a dumpster, and put on his Phantom mask. He stepped out and activated his lightsaber. Maddie did the same thing Danny and Clockwork merely made sure his cloak was covering his face as he activated his lightsaber. The three of them exchanged looks and nods before they raced into battle. Tucker and Wulf watched them go and exchanged looks.
"Alright, buddy I'm going to go grab the Tempest and provide some air support. You want to come with me or do some ground fighting?" Said Tucker.
Wulf responded by racing into the battle with a howl. Tucker just smiled before he jumped onto a speeder bike and raced to the hanger where the Tempest was parked.
Valerie and the Rebels who had been monitoring the area also began fighting with Dark Laser's forces and protect the civilians.
When the attack had started Wraith raced out of the Capitol with her lightsaber and began to fight the attackers. She took down some troopers and dodged a stomp from a Vulture Droid before she Force leaped onto the big droid and stabbed it in the head making it collapse. Wraith deflected some blasted bolts back at Dark Laser's troops and then hurled a few of them through the air with the Force. She glanced around at the carnage at all the fighting going on between the Stormtroopers and Dark Laser's forces. Wraith could sense the anger and sadness in the air from all the people. It was just so much. Wraith then sensed that Phantom was close by and she didn't know rather to be relived for the help or scared at the thought of her master and Dark Laser getting the Ring of Rage.
As the fighting raged on Lancer was having a full panic attack as he desperately called for help to all the ships in the armada and for Vlad, but they were all too far away to immediately help. The only ship close by was the Dagger, which came to the Capitol's aid. The Dagger engaged in battle with the Strife as it launched TIE Fighters that fought with Dark Laser's ships. A shuttle exited the Dagger carrying Fright Knight, Vid, Thrash, and Download to engage in battle with Dark Laser's forces.
Another shuttle from the Strife landed on the scene and Dark Laser walked out.
"So it begins. One way or another the ring will be mine." Said Dark Laser to himself as he activated his lightsaber and strolled into battle.
