The Story of Subject X

I am fascinated by the whole topic of Subject X. There are a lot of questions like, who is she? Where is she now? What has happened to her during the time she was gone? Why did Braig/Xigbar take her out of her cell in the first place? Many people have come to the conclusion that Subject X is Skuld from Kingdom Hearts: Union X(Cross) and I agree. But we still have no idea where she is and what she has been doing. Because of this, I have been having this idea on what she has been doing during the year long gap between the defeat of Xehanort and the Limitcut Episode in Re:Mind. So I decided to make this story! Enjoy!

Intro: The Search for Subject X

(Present time, Twilight Town)

In the world of Twilight Town, we see Lea, Isa, Roxas and Xion sitting at the Clock Tower. They have been busy for over a year, trying to find Sora after he disappeared. Lea and Isa decided to look through the memories of Roxas and Xion, due to their connections to Sora. But they ended up with no results. So they have decided to go to the Clock Tower to take a break and have some sea-salt ice cream.

While Lea, Roxas and Xion are talking to each other, Isa is lost in thought, thinking about their missing friend. Him and Lea have been trying to find her ever since she disappeared. But even when they were in the Organization, they couldn't find any traces of her. Lea notices that Isa is lost in thought. He decides to talk to him. "Hey Isa, are you okay?" Lea asks Isa.

Isa stops spacing out when Lea talked to him. He notices the concerned looks they are giving him. He realizes he has been spacing out for a while. "Sorry, guess I was lost in thought." Isa tells them while looking at his ice cream.

Lea knows better than to think it was nothing. He knows that there is something that is bothering him. "Come on Isa. Even I know that there is more to it than that." Lea tells Isa, trying to get him to talk. Isa looks at him for a second before looking back at his ice cream. "It's about her, isn't it?" Lea takes a guess with a solemn expression.

"It has been twelve years since she disappeared, and we still haven't found any leads on her. How long are we suppose to make her wait?" Isa tells them his thoughts about their missing friend. Lea looks down, having no answer to give.

Roxas and Xion hear them talking about a friend of theirs. The last time they heard them mention her was after they defeated Saïx at the Keyblade Graveyard. They have never met her before, so they are curious about said girl.

"You have mentioned her back at the Keyblade Graveyard. Who is this mysterious friend of yours?" Xion takes a risk and ask them the question.

"Yeah, tell us about her. We would like to know more." Roxas agrees with Xion.

Lea and Isa look at Roxas and Xion, surprised by their words. They are wondering what to say until Isa spoke up. "She's a friend we made before we joined the Organization. We use to sneak into the castle of Radient Garden to figure out what was going on in there. When we finally made it in, we met a girl who was being used by Xehanort for the research of the heart. She was his lab rat." Isa tells them. His voice filled with disdain at the last sentence. "We would often sneak back in to visit her. But when we decided to save her, she was already gone. We haven't seen of heard from her since."

"We thought that if we became apprentices to Ansem the Wise, then we could figure out what happened to her. Then things got crazy after that. One day we're apprentices, the next, Ansem the Wise has up and vanished, the day after, we're Nobodies, day after that, we were doing icky jobs for Xemnas. Since she was originally his lab rat, we thought that if we followed him, then we could find out what happened to her. But there was no trace of her at all." Lea explains to Roxas and Xion about their goal to find and save her.

Roxas and Xion feel bad for Lea and Isa. They have been trying to find some kind of clue about their missing friend for more than a decade, only to end up empty handed. They can tell that they want to find her. But they also realized that neither of them have mentioned her name. Roxas decided to speak up about that. "Hey, How come you haven't told us her name?"

"Yeah. Maybe if we know her name, then we could ask around to see if anyone knows her." Xion voices her idea.

"She doesn't know who she is." Isa tells them. "When we first met her, she revealed that she suffers from amnesia. She doesn't even remember her name. The researchers only called her Subject X. She was also locked away underneath the castle. No one else would know about her."

The situation sanked in for them. Roxas and Xion now fully understand why they haven't been able to find out what happened to her. But they realized that if anyone would have any idea about what happened to her, then Lea and Isa would. After all, they found out about her before they became apprentices. "You two found out about her. Maybe there is a clue about her that you two know." Xion tells them.

"When we talked to her, she told us that she remembers three things about her past. She remembers having four other friends, but she doesn't remember who they are. She also mentioned something about a key." Lea told them.

"A key. Could she have been talking about a Keyblade?" Roxas took a guess. This actually took Lea and Isa by surprise.

"A Keyblade... could she have been a Keyblade wielder?" Isa ask himself.

"If she was, then we might have found a lead." Lea said enthusiastically.

"Let's go ask Master Yen Sid if he knows her. If he doesn't, then we can check with Ventus, Aqua and Terra to see if they know anything." Isa tells them. Isa and Lea stand up to leave, but then Isa remembers that Roxas and Xion are also with them. "Do you two want to join us?" Isa asks them.

"Really? Do you have to ask?" Roxas tells Isa, wanting to help them.

"Yeah, your not leaving us behind. We want to help you find your missing friend." Xion tells them.

Roxas and Xion stand up to leave the Clock Tower with Lea and Isa. Isa smiles at them, happy to know that he has made some nice friends and he won't be alone to look for her. They all leave the Clock Tower. They are ready for their quest to find Subject X.

"Sometimes when people want something, they wait. Sometimes people will wait for something to happen. But if waiting is not good enough, then take action. Go see what is out there. Don't wait for your life to start."

Simple and Clean -Ray of Hope Mix- from Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep: A fragmentary passage starts to play.

A night sky filled with stars, left completely cleared. We see shooting stars soaring through. However, they are soaring in different directions to different locations. We zoom in to one of the shooting stars, only to see a person.

A girl with long black hair and light brown eyes wearing pink star earrings, gray zippered shirt under a black vest, a black skirt with a studded belt, black boots and knee-high stockings and red belts with one around her left arm and two around her ankles is seen soaring through the night sky. She opens her eyes a bit to see her friends going in different directions. Too tired, she closes her eyes again. She flashbacks to her friends, but the image is of four silloutes of her friends and an image of her holding a key. She keeps going until she lands in Radient Garden at night time. It quickly becomes sunrise and we see three people around her. Ansem the Wise, who reaches down to her, Braig, who has a serious look, and Terra-Xehanort, who has a wicked grin.

Scene changes to a dark void where she is surrounded by Terra-Xehanort, Braig, Dilan, Even, Aeleus and and a younger Ienzo. She looks uncomfortable and takes a step back. But when she takes a step back, the Organization chairs surround her.

She eventually turns around and sees young Lea and Isa. She is surrounded by bars. Lea and Isa both reach their hands out to her. She tries to reach her hands to them. However, they disappear, and she is face to face with Braig.

Braig opens up a portal and grabs a hold of her wrist. She looks back and sees Lea and Isa trying to reach her. She stretched her hand out to them, but is pulled into the portal and vanishes from their sight. Lea and Isa look behind them and see Terra-Xehanort holding the No Name Keyblade.

Axel and Saïx are seen in The Castle That Never Was, both of them ignoring each other. Saïx goes over to Xemnas and Axel runs over to Roxas and Xion. Axel stops running over to them, only seeing Roxas, with Xion no where in sight.

They are in a dark void until Axel summons a wall of fire and pulls out his chakrams. Roxas summons the Oathkeeper and Oblivion Keyblades and they start to fight. Roxas lands the final strike and Axel starts to fall back. Roxas changes to Sora, standing next to the fallen Axel. Sora looks up and is face to face with Saïx in his berserk state. The two fight and it transitions to the Keyblade Graveyard, where Sora is joined by Roxas, Xion, Lea and Kairi in the fight. They fight Saïx until he is out of his berserk state. He starts to fall back, only for Lea to catch him.

The girl, now older and wearing the black coat, is soaring through the night sky. She reaches her hands out to the sun and moon. From the sun and moon, Lea and Isa, in their current look, come out and reach their hands out to her. She grabs their hands and they are floating in the sky. She is happy until she looks and sees Xigbar looming over them. He pulls out his twin Arrowguns and shoots in their direction. They get separated and she creates barriers around Lea and Isa to protect them. However, this causes them to get separated. Lea and Isa reach out to her and she reaches out to them, with a sad smile.

She continues flying through the stars of the night sky, with her eyes closed. But while she is soaring, we see a multi-colored way finder with a silver sun and moon token in the center. Each point shows an image of Terra-Xehanort, Xigbar, Lea, Isa and a younger Subject X. She opens her eyes as she continues flying and it shows the full expanse of the night sky with her appearing as a shooting star. Lea, Isa, Roxas and Xion are looking at the night sky, seeing her soar by.

Well, there's the introduction for the story. The next chapter is when we get to see Skuld/Subject X and see what she's been up to during her absence. Until next time!
