Guest – Glad you enjoyed the first chapter, hope you enjoy future ones too!

Shield Enforcer – Corvus will be a part of the main RWBY events in this story but I will not say how, I'll let you find out when I release the chapters. And yes, I tried to make Raven kinder by making it so she was forced to leave to not endanger the others, rather than her leaving because she felt like it.

Kirino2-0 – I'm glad you like it! And thanks for the advice, I've tried to apply it a little in this chapter, I haven't had much time to work on my writing but I'll be doing my best to improve with it.

Chapter 1: Corvus

Raven was furious.

Firstly, the tribe's final raid before winter had failed because of a powerful team of Mistrali huntsmen who just happened to be staying in the village they were planning to attack.

Secondly, one of said huntsmen had a semblance that increased his perception of time, basically increasing his reaction speed, while another had a semblance that induced something akin to nausea or motion sickness. Those two things resulted in a very uncomfortable fight and a nasty defeat that the bandit leader was lucky to get out of.

Thirdly, because of the failed raid attempt the tribe won't have a large enough stockpile of food to keep everyone happy during the winter meaning people are going to go hungry, leading to negative emotions and unwanted attention.

All of this made Raven a very unhappy woman and everyone in the tribe could clearly tell, as they avoided her like she was a raging Megoliath as she made her way towards her tent at the back of the camp.

Once inside she slammed her helmet on her coffee table with nearly enough force to break it as she sat down and started massaging her temples, hoping to ease the migraine she was currently dealing with.

"Mom?"

All anger and annoyance faded from Raven in an instant as she turned to face the five year old boy who just entered the tent.

"Corvus? What are you doing here, shouldn't you be training with Bruno?" She says in a gentle tone.

"Well, I was, but we saw you come back and you looked really upset. He told me that I should go see what's wrong."

"I just had a bad day sweetie" Raven says as she picks up her child and holds him in her arms. She couldn't help but smile as she hugged young Corvus. Raven wasn't the nicest person on Remnant and she could be very cold, cruel and even ruthless at times, but just the sight of her little boy was enough to make her heart melt.

"You must feel as exhausted as I do after all your training, why don't you tell me all about it while I make us some tea?" She said as she got up to grab the teapot.

"Oh, Ok! Well Bruno says that I'm getting much better using a shoto, my stance and grip are much better than what they were, and I've also perfected the movements he's been teaching me!" He says enthusiastically.

"Well done Corvus" Raven says with pride in her voice. "Maybe we can begin sparring soon."

"Really!?" Corvus says with a gasp, very excited to begin the next step in his trianing.

Raven chuckles, smiling at her son's enthusiasm. "Yes Corvus, we will, but not for a few months yet. We're going to be needing food for the winter, so Bruno will be teaching you how to hunt for now."

As Raven finished preparing the tea she filled both cups and brought them over to the coffee table where Corvus was sat.

Suddenly, Raven feels a disturbance over her kindred link, her semblance. She can use it to portal to people she's bonded with, but she can also sense their aura. She can tell if they're at critical levels or if they're broken, but this time one of her links got cut off completely, the link for her team leader Summer Rose.

Her friend didn't die did she? No… she couldn't have, she's too strong for that, and Qrow would have been with her anyway. Her brother was a jackass at times but he was also very strong, and smart. Regardless, she needed to check for herself.

"Mommy? What's wrong?"

Her son's voice grabs her attention, looking over to him Raven sees concern in his eyes. She hadn't noticed that she'd zoned out, nor that she dropped both of the teacups.

"Nothing sweetie, I just… remembered something really important, I'll be back soon." She says as she gives Corvus a quick hug and opens a portal to her brother.

She enters the portal and exits with her weapon ready… to see the inside of an apartment, with her brother sitting on the bed with a startled look on his face.

"Raven? What's up? Why do you look like you're about to kill something?" Qrow says in his usual drawl.

"Where's Summer? What happened?" Raven says urgently.

"Out on a mission for Oz, apparently. Why? Something happen?"

"Qrow, you know how I can sense aura levels with my semblance right?"

Qrow nodded as he gave a hum of affirmation.

"Well my link to Summer just got cut off. No critical aura, no aura break, just… just nothing." Raven says, panic beginning to seep into her voice.

Qrow's eyes widened with realization before he pulled out his scroll.

"No, she's fine. She's gotta be, let me call her." He says, disbelieving. He calls multiple times to no avail and begins to panic.

"No, no, no… Maybe she's just out of range, she ca-"

"QROW!" Raven shouts, getting his attention. She takes a deep breath to calm herself.

"Go check in with Ozpin, unless his magical bullshit has something to do with this, then… then we already have our answer."

Qrow nods, a grim expression on her face as he turns to leave, before turning back to his sister.

"You still got a link to Tai? We're in Mistral right now."

Raven rolls her eyes before opening a portal to their other teammate.

"Stay safe brother" She says, giving him a weak smile.

"You too, sis" He returns the smile a lot weaker than hers, as he leaves and the portal closes.

Raven closes her eyes and pinches the bridge of her nose in exasperation.

"Goddamnit Summer" She says, her voice on the verge of breaking. There is a very large chance her team leader just died, or maybe something happened to her that caused their link to break. Either way, Raven wouldn't find out until Qrow gets back. Hopefully he comes bearing good news.

Raven seriously doubts that.

Sorry for taking so long, lots of irl stuff been going on, moved house, got a new job, gran was hospitalised (she's fine now), between that and a general lack of motivation I've been kinda stuck on this story, but I'm still here and I'm gonna keep updating it. Hopefully I can manage to get the next chapter out soon, but no guarantees

I also somehow managed to come up with another story idea too. I'm not gonna post it yet as I wanna make better progress on this before I start another, but I'll probably be working on that when I can't be bothered to work on this.

Once again, any advice you guys have I'll gladly take as I absolutely suck at writing. Hope you guys enjoyed this relatively short chapter, I'll try to make the next one longer. See you guys!
