XenoLucifer- Sorry you don't like that, it's understandable. I hope it doesn't push you away too much.
Chapter 13 – Protégé
Corvus left his mother's tent again I. The night to go to his usual meeting spot with Adam. It had been a few days since they first spoke and the two boys had opened up to each other quite well, sharing about their pasts, talking of their hobbies and just chatting about whatever came to mind. His mother hadn't noticed yet as Corvus was was very careful not to disturb her. Unfortunately he had failed to notice the pair of eyes that had been watching him as he made his way to his and Adam's spot the last few days. This time, as he and Adam had gotten well into their chat, Raven had found them.
"Corvus. What are you doing?" she asks in a stern, yet soft tone.
"Uhh… I'm just talking with Adam…" He said sheepishly.
Raven looked at Adam for a moment. "So you're to one keeping my kid up all night, huh?"
Before Adam could respond, Corvus spoke. "No mom. I… I had a nightmare the other night and I couldn't sleep. I came here and found Adam. We've been meeting here the past few nights."
Raven's expression softened. "I know you've been coming here, Bruno informed me, and I'm not mad at you. But if you've been having nightmares then you could've told me, I'm your mother Corvus."
"I… I didn't want to wake you." He responded sheepishly.
She nodded in understanding. "Okay, but if you need to talk, Corvus, then wake me. I can forsake a few hours sleep to help you, okay?"
He gave a hum of affirmation. "Okay mom."
"Now don't stay up too late, either of you." She said, looking between the boys before focusing on Corvus. "Especially you, Corvus. You still need rest." She said, before turning to go back to the camp. Before she could get far, however, Corvus stopped her.
"Uh, mom? Could you do me a favor?" He asked.
After Raven motioned for him to continue, he spoke again.
"Uh, Adam told me he wanted to be trained. Could he join us next time?"
Raven smiled and nodded. "Of course." She said, before leaving the two boys alone for the night.
For the remaining few days I'd the Faunus group's stay, Adam joined the two in training and to Raven's surprise, the boy was a natural. He had taken to her training with such vigor and enthusiasm that she wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being on par with the likes herself and Qrow when he grew to their age. His and Corvus' relationship grew into a strong friendship over those few days, though of course the time eventually came for him and his group to leave.
As the Faunus group were preparing to leave, giving thanks and saying goodbye, Corvus could see Adam speaking to his father. The older man looked conflicted, worried even. Eventually, Corvus saw the man nod to Adam, who then hastily made his way to Raven. Corvus was close enough to hear their conversation.
"Raven!" he called out to get her attention. "We want to stay."
Raven raised her eyebrow at him, taking a moment before speaking. "Why?"
"I want to learn how to fight." He said firmly. "I've learned a lot being taught by you, and I want to learn more. I want to become strong."
Raven smirks at this. She looks at him silently for a moment before speaking again. "Tell me, Adam. Why do you want to become strong?"
Adam didn't hesitate to answer. "So I can help others like me, and get back at the ones who treat us like this."
Raven was quite pleased with this answer. She could see a fire in his eye, he almost reminded her of herself when she was his age. She could tell he'd be a great fighter one day.
"Alright Adam, I'll let you stay. But don't think this'll be an easy ride." She said with a smirk
Once Adam and his father said a final goodbye to his group, he grinned widely. He was pleased he had this opportunity. He always hoped one would come along, so he was glad this one did before he lost hope. Now, he was going to make the most of it. He had to, if he wanted to help his people.
Again, took a little longer that I'd like but what can you do, eh? My excuse this time? Payday 3. Actually been enjoying it despite the server issues. Honestly if I'd not been playing with my friends all the time I'd have been able to get it down when I was waiting for the bloody game to connect. But yeah, end of the beginning of this story. We'll be timeskipping now, so we can get to closer to the meat of this story.
But yeah, not much else to say aside from thanks for 100 follows. I'm honestly still surprised at that, so thank all of you. Please feel free to leave a review, whether it's criticism, a question or just a comment. As always, I read and reply to all of them. See you guys next chapter!
