"Oh my god, those cuts are real!?"
"I would prefer you would refrain from using that phrase. I find it offensive to call me your god…" He mumbled to himself mostly.
"What?"
"Nevermind! And yes they are real, I can't exactly fake this pain I'm feeling."
He stated clutching his side trying to stand
"Wait, you're hurt somewhere else?!"
She frantically gets up and races to his side. Which repulsed him slightly that she was trying to touch him.
"Please don't touch me, you have caused enough trouble for me."
He said pushing her hands away from helping him up the rest of the way.
"I-I'm so sorry if I knew that you was actually hurt I-"
"You'd what, apologize in the first place then walk away and leave me in peace."
That's what he wished the situation would have turned out. But that only made her expression harden in distaste.
"What!? No, I would take you to the nearest doctor immediately then leave you in peace if that's what you really want."
He couldn't go to a mortal healer, his rapid healing would cause too many questions while using his healing spell. Which is what he has been doing since he woke up, but he was so tired he couldn't process the spell fully. He wanted to just avoid the mortals at this point and find shelter and… well honestly he didn't know what to do… he was far from ho- Asgard… he had no home, no family… he was truly lost… and alone…
"I would rather go on my own, I'll find my way."
He continued walking till she spoke up from behind him.
"Do you know where you're going?"
He turned to face her.
"What?"
"It's just that, the way you're going is not to the nearest town. The way you're going you wouldn't reach a town by walking till tomorrow. The other direction the town would take you an hour to get there. Unless you hitched a ride."
Well that was helpful, he would have been walking till he died of heat stroke, if she hadn't told him that, if he can die. He definitely felt very weak in this heat, he wouldn't obviously let anyone know that.
He started walking the other direction to her advice, he felt no need to thank her. He wouldn't give her that satisfaction.
"Are you lost? How did you get out here in the first place? How did you get hurt?"
He stopped and sighed. She was asking too many questions that he had little patience to answer. If he told the truth she wouldn't believe him and think him mad. If he thought up a lie, it would just keep the conversation going which he preferred to walk away from.
"I will manage, woman."
"Annaleise."
"I beg your pardon?"
"My name is Annaleise, people call me Anna. It's better than calling me 'woman'."
"Well I will manage…Anneliese… goodbye."
He continued to walk in the direction she led him, to the next town till he heard footsteps following him. He turned to see Anna not far behind him. He stopped, she stopped. He walked, she walked.
"Was there something else you wish to trouble me with." Turning back to face her with a glare, in hopes maybe she will get the hit of 'fuck off.'
"It's just… you look in pretty bad shape and I don't think you want to keep walking in this heat with your injuries."
"Oh, how did you figure that?"
He stated sarcastically.
"I have a house not far from here, there's food and water and a place to sleep. You can stay there and I'll take you to town tomorrow."
This woman, after yelling at him, wants to offer her home. What could she want from him to offer such a thing?
"For what price?"
"Nothing, think of it as my way of repaying you for my mistakes. Besides, you're pretty alone out here. I could spend the rest of the day worrying if you made it safely to town or I can take you tomorrow on my way to work so I know you made it out okay."
Why would she worry about him? She didn't know him, nor did he know her. He did nothing to earn this kindness. Unless she had something to gain from it as well.
"Is there something you want in return?"
He was startled by laughter that came from this small woman.
"No, not at all, other than your company. You're not the only one alone out here. I could use a dinner with more conversation than I would get by myself."
He was completely taken back by this woman, all she desires is his company in return for food, shelter, and a way into town. He considered her offer, it was better than walking an hour in the heat, more like stumbling, so it might take longer than that. Besides one night was all it took, till he was free of this woman. What could one night hurt?
"Fine, lead the way, woman."
"Anna."
"Whatever, let's just walk the rest of the way in silence please. I do not care for idle chit-chat."
"As you wish."
He walked towards her only for her not to lead him anywhere, she only stood there for a moment. Till she walked up to him, wrapped one arm on his waist, the other taking his free arm placing it on her shoulder. He finally reacted by pulling away, only to fail as she gripped him tighter. His reflexes were slower, he definitely couldn't fight back against anyone… even a mere mortal…
He did Fall from the Rainbow bridge after losing a battle for his honor. Then he was suspended in an airless, lifeless, foodless environment for however long it was he was floating around out there. Plummeted onto a shit planet he cared little to know more about. Crash landed without a vessel to cushion the blow. Then finally is being hounded by a loud tiny woman persistently. Can really wear a god out entirely.
"You looked to be struggling, you can't keep up with my pace. You could fall trying to rush, I want to prevent that from happening. Sorry for talking, I just wanted to explain myself."
"I don't need your help." He said yanking out from her grasp taking a few steps till he lost his balance and fell forward.
Landing with a groan. He rolled himself over, only to be blinded by the sun in his eyes. Till she blocked out the light with her face, bending down to his level.
"It doesn't make you weak to accept someone's help, in fact I find it makes someone seem stronger. To accept help when they need it rather than when they want it. Now you can either accept my help, or I get to watch you fall the rest of the way there. In better circumstances, I would be enjoying this. Unfortunately, right now it just makes me pity you. Which, I'm sure you don't want my pity."
This woman was quite perceptive, she could tell he didn't want to seem weak by accepting help from a mortal. He was a God! The likes of her couldn't even begin to understand his desire to not seem weak, so he was not to be taken advantage of. The god of tricks would never be fooled, he will always be one step ahead. He had to admit she did have an intellect, at least enough to make her slightly more tolerable. But he won't ever trust her, never will he be fooled by the innocence of a meek mortal. She wants something from him, she must desire something in return for helping him. Human greed was always what came first in their books. As weak as they seem they were always determined to get what they want, all of this could be an act till she foolishly attempts to stab him in the back. But…
As painful as admitting more things was, unfortunately, she was right again. He needed her help and he wouldn't like her pitying him. He would rather accept her help than receive any pity from the likes of a human. A human woman no less.
He would have to trust her a little… for now. He will keep being weary, never to leave his back bare.
He sat in silence and without a word she offered her hand. He reluctantly grabbed it, confirming he accepted her help. She repeated the position they were in before he fell, and led him down the road. Which he presumed was the way to her home.
Hope you like it. I feel its improving. Lemme know what you think.
