Shadow placed Amy on the bench. Her pulse was strong, though the transformation exhausted what was left of her reserves. She'd likely be out for a while.

"Now tell me," Shadow ordered, "how did she bring you back?"

"Didn't you ever find it strange how Amy never seemed like she belonged anywhere?"

"What do you mean?"

"She was never really part of a clique. She was lonely in a way few people ever experience. The more I got to know her, the more I understood why. She was made for something greater."

"Greater?"

"Most people know her home world as Big Planet, but its true name is more significant. Its real name is miracle planet."

"Miracle Planet...?"

"Don't you see? Amy is the miracle. The planet was named for inhabitants like her - people with special powers far beyond anything we could ever imagine. At first I thought her powers were tainted by the darkness; perhaps weakened or berserk, but I was wrong. When I saw how much she'd made on her own, I realized she was the strongest of us all. She's what's known as a dark miracle - a miracle that grows through hardship."

"What did she mean by D4? It sounded like code."

"It's shorthand for degrade, disrupt, deny, destroy. It was our failsafe in case something like this ever happened. I was counting on her powers to save the world, but they took longer to awaken than I thought."

"Still, that doesn't explain how you're here."

"That's the fun part. Her power negates chaos. She has domain over all of space-time."

"So that means...She can see through my chaos control..."

"You're not out for the count yet. Her abilities can only grow through continued practice. All that training you guys have been doing is how we got here. She's got a long way to go before she's at her peak."

"So that's how it works..."

"To achieve full strength, her body and mind must reach a state of perfect harmony. You're the best hope we've got."

"So be it. I'm interested to see where this leads."

Ivo's drone detected the group's presence. He was shocked to see the fox still standing.

"How," the doctor exclaimed, "I thought you killed him!?"

"I did," Sonic replied, "There's no way that's him! It has to be a trick! Why isn't Shadow attacking!?"

"This is a turn I did not foresee...Miles...Are you really alive...?"
