Tiamat blinked, thinking that perhaps her mind was not able to correctly understand those words in the first instance. That disbelief didn't last longer than that blink, and it was noticeable when her eyes began to progressively widen, until they took on a very peculiar gleam.
Ross and Penemue were much the same as their best friend, except they weren't shocked, they were simply very surprised. With Ophis it was a different matter, as she looked at everyone with a big question mark over her head.
"Issei..." Tiamat could barely call out to him at the surprise of such an unexpected statement, letting it show how captivated she was.
But Issei didn't see it the same way, and that was implied when a rather nervous smile emerged from his face.
"You're right!" The young man declared with an awkward, embarrassed chuckle. "I guess it's still too early to think about marriage..." Issei lowered his gaze in clear embarrassment, but that action allowed him to see how the dragoness' legs were trembling.
"Tiamat?" Issei looked at her with great confusion, a confusion that turned into great bewilderment as the dragoness's legs lost strength, causing him to have to hug her so she wouldn't fall to the ground.
They were both left kneeling close together by the embrace, and the moment Issei raised his gaze to face her face, that was when his eyes widened greatly as he saw small tears emerge from her beautiful face while she gave him a huge and beautiful smile, denoting those precious canine fangs that always characterized her so much.
"Yes, I do! I want to be your wife!" Tiamat hugged him very tightly after saying those words, feeling her soul and body melt at the close contact and moment she had with the man she loved so much.
"Did you- really...?" Issei was barely able to react as he pressed his hands on the woman's back to comfort that sob, or rather, to make her cry even more.
After all, it wasn't a cry of relief or sorrow...
"Yes! Yes! I want to marry you!"
It was a cry that was covered with pure and infinite happiness.
"I want us to start a family!" Tiamat's sob deepened after saying those words, as it was one of her deepest desires since she met him.
She couldn't help but remember when her ex-fiancé had proposed to her. Of course she had felt happy too, but that happiness didn't even come close compared to what she was feeling right now.
She had to go through a lot, but now she didn't care anymore. That past barely mattered to her when she met Issei, and it stopped mattering to her when she was finally able to become one with him.
And now...
That happiness was simply indescribable.
And the man who had made her so happy was exactly the same as she was.
Sneaky tears rolled down Issei's cheeks as he hugged her even tighter.
"Ever since I was little I always dreamed of this moment, but I never thought it would make me feel so happy." Issei conveyed his thoughts in a trembling voice to that captivated woman who could only cry with her face cupped in the neck of the person she loved so much.
Penemue and Rossweisse stood on the sidelines, watching this with a tiny smile. Meanwhile, Ophis was extremely confused at everything that was happening.
On the one hand, The Dragon Goddess felt strangely happy for both of them. But on the other hand, she was feeling somewhat down.
"Marriage..." She said in a whisper as she watched Issei accept all the happiness that Tiamat was conveying to him with her silent crying and that embrace covered with a truly radiant and pure love.
CHAPTER 85: A NIGHT TO REMEMBER (+18)
Tiamat brushed away the last tears with a short sob, where it could be seen that she had already separated from Issei and looked much calmer. Still, that radiant face and the faint blush on her cheeks would not leave her for a good while.
"When is our wedding?" She sounded excited, an excitement that was probably never going to go away.
Issei raised his finger to explain, but was interrupted when Rossweisse stepped in between the two of them with a large pout.
"Hey, it's not fair that only you're marrying him! I've been preparing my wedding dress even since the moment we became a couple!" Issei was pleasantly surprised at Rossweisse's statement, but Tiamat had a rather adverse reaction.
"No one said you weren't going to marry him. But I was the first one to meet him, and, therefore, the one who was with him the longest. That gives me the privilege of being the First Lady." Tiamat declared as crossed her arms with a pleased smile as she watched Rossweisse's pout increase even more.
"But I was his first bride! That's still unfair everywhere you look!" This time the Valkyrie shouted with great indignation, causing Tiamat's overbearing grin to increase.
"If I have a say in this..."
"YOU WILL NOT OPINE ANYTHING!" Issei was quickly intimidated by the shout of both women, causing him to shrink into himself.
The protagonist walked silently until he was next to Penemue and Ophis, who were standing on the sidelines of the discussion.
"How could this happen...?" Issei wondered as he rubbed his hair with one hand, watching as the two women continued to argue, or rather, Rossweisse did, as Tiamat simply seemed to be laughing at her.
"This is what happens when you propose to only one of your couples." Clarified Penemue, who looked rather calm.
"Is that so? But if you're not angry..." Issei stated with a confused look that changed to a terrified expression when the Cadre gave him a glare of ultratumb at the same time her crimson eyes flashed dangerously.
"And who said I wasn't angry?" She turned her face away as her eyes closed, making clear the indignation she was feeling right now.
"Uh..." Was all he could say as he opted for a rather shaky smile.
After watching Rossweisse cry comically over the argument she was facing with Tiamat, the man could do nothing but heave a sigh.
"I'm sorry." Tiamat and Rossweisse stopped their fight upon hearing Issei, causing them all to look at their beloved with rapt attention. "As I said in the beginning, this was a rather rash idea. I didn't think about the consequences, and I must admit I screwed up." Issei gave a small sigh at the end, then raised his gaze with a seriousness that surprised everyone. "Listen, I never made this clear because I know you all understand. But you are all equally important to me. If getting married indicates that you must choose a First, Second and Third Lady position, then I don't want to get married." Those last words surprised everyone, as they knew well that marriage was one of Issei's greatest desires.
"But..." Rossweisse said with some regret, but Issei interrupted her when he raised his hand with a big toothy smile.
"I don't care about marriage! There's no bigger dream than to be able to have you in my life!" Issei's words took all three women by surprise, and it showed when they all blushed.
"Come to think of it, there's a pretty simple option to this problem." They all looked at Penemue after her words, who was cupping her chin. "All we have to do is all get married on the same day and that's it."
"Of course, and that way we'd all be First Lady!" Rossweisse bumped her fist on her hand in a somewhat comical manner.
"If we've solved this little problem, then I'll get back to the main question..." Everyone looked at Tiamat after her intervention. "When will we celebrate the wedding?"
"After the war." The man's statement came as a bit of a surprise to his beloveds. "I understand that it may seem strange, but I have no doubt that we will win. And believe me, there is no better victory party than a great marriage." He concluded with a toothy grin on his face, getting them all to smile at him for his enthusiasm.
"Come to think of it, I just remembered a very important point." Issei stated as he held up one of his fingers, then rubbed his hair nervously. "I don't have any engagement rings to offer you."
"Engagement ring?" Tiamat couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, letting on that she didn't understand what he was talking about.
"It is a rather unique feature of humans that they wear to somehow mark that man or woman has a mate they are already sharing their life with." Penemue cleared up the dragoness's doubts, though this caused Issei to raise an eyebrow.
"I like that!" Tiamat exclaimed with a cute smile on her face.
"Wait a minute, are you telling me that you girls don't wear engagement rings?" Questioned the protagonist with much curiosity.
"Marriages vary according to the culture of each race. But if you ask me, the idea of having a ring to symbolize our union is something I quite like." Rossweisse clarified his doubts with a rather excited tone at the end.
"Wait a minute, different cultures..." A light bulb went off over Issei's head as he looked at the Fallen Angel, the Valkyrie Queen, and the Dragon Queen, who couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.
"Now what are you planning?" Penemue looked at him carefully, knowing that every time he put on that silly, sly expression it was because he was thinking of something incredible.
"It will be a secret for our wedding." He declared with a toothy grin, making the curiosity of his three fiancées go through the roof. "For now, I'll make sure to get the rings, and I know someone who could help me with that." Issei waved a quick goodbye as he rushed off with unbelievable excitement towards the mansion.
"A secret for the wedding? This just makes me even more excited!" Rossweisse exclaimed with a little jump due to the fact that she couldn't contain her joy.
"Anyway, I'm still the First Lady among first ladies." Tiamat pointed proudly at herself, causing Rossweisse's joy to spread like fog.
"How can you keep saying that?! I was the first to become his bride!" Rossweisse shouted comically again, only to focus her obfuscated gaze on a certain Cadre. "And how can you be so calm?!" Penemue couldn't help but startle a little when she was yelled at without warning.
"You keep me out of your bullshit!" Penemue stated with a dark look, causing Rossweisse to cringe a bit while Tiamat looked away with a somewhat amused expression on her face. "Anyway, I think they're both tied." After saying that, both women looked at her with great intrigue. "Rossweisse was Issei's first girlfriend, while Tiamat was his first time." Cadre clarified, and they both had to agree.
Well, so it was at first, as a victorious smile soon emerged from Tiamat's face.
"But Issei proposed to me first!" She exclaimed as if it was a great conquest, causing Penemue to pat her face as she watched Rossweisse's hair stand on end again.
"But we're all getting married on the same day, aren't we, Penu!"
"Oh, my goodness..."
"Accept your defeat!"
"I didn't lose to anyone!"
"Are you going to go on like this all day long?"
"And the night too if necessary!"
"That's a lie."
The discussion among the women was abruptly interrupted at the voice and presence of a certain Goddess they had already forgotten was even with them.
They all looked at Ophis with great surprise when she raised her hand carefully, showing them a wedding ring that looked quite familiar to the eyes of the three.
"You weren't the first, I was." Ophis declared with a solemn and confident look on her face, leaving them all completely silent, who could simply look at each other with great surprise and uncertainty.
"Well..." The first to speak was Tiamat after those seconds of silence. "In that case, there is still one point left to decide who will win, and that point is..."
"There will be no tiebreaker." Penemue interrupted her, causing them all to look at her with great curiosity.
"What do you mean by that?" Rossweisse asked with great interest, watching as the Cadre looked at her nails with supposed disinterest.
"What I mean is that I will be the first to become a mother."
Several hours later...
After a few extensive and perhaps complicated hours for some, the training had finally concluded.
The vast majority immersed themselves in deep meditation while consuming their magical reserves, some to be able to control them more adequately while the vast majority just took it upon themselves to push to their limits in order to slowly increase their reserves. After that, the training branched out into several more specific sectors, where everyone trained their strongest points, while some still kept meditation until the end of the afternoon.
In that way, the night came and everyone could rest with some jokes and a good dinner. Finally, the day was coming to an end and everyone was ready to sleep, so Great Red and Ophis were in charge of pointing out everyone's rooms, until finally Issei, Rossweisse, Tiamat and Penemue were left.
The brown stopped when he felt someone tug on the back of his hand rather sheepishly, and when he turned around, he could see how Ophis held a rather piercing look in her eyes, something that confused him quite a bit.
"Can we talk?" The Dragon Goddess was as direct as ever, getting everyone to turn to look at her.
"Don't you want to do it when we get to my room?" Issei asked somewhat quizzically at the sudden request.
"We'll go, don't worry. But don't take so long." Were Great Red's words, earning a nod from Issei.
"But don't you think it would be simpler...?"
"I think this is something they should discuss alone." Penemue stated, drawing everyone's attention. "Trust me." She culminated with a slight smile.
"Okay." Issei rubbed his hair even more confused and intrigued after the Cadre's statement, as she evidently knew something he didn't.
"Then I'll see you in a few minutes." Rossweisse waved goodbye, continuing on her way down the long hallway.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" Issei focused his gaze on an Ophis who was already looking her usual typical apathetic expression.
"You love them, and they love you." That answer caused Issei to raise both eyebrows in utter confusion.
"Uh... You mean the girls?"
"Do you love Ophis too?" the Dragon Goddess answered him with another question as she pulled the back of his hand once more, surprising Issei quite a bit.
Though perhaps not as much as many would expect, as he had, in fact, a very similar conversation with her in Kyoto.
But now she seemed to be looking for an immediate and much deeper answer.
"I don't know yet." Ophis lowered her head, indicating that the answer was not what she expected. "I mean, we've been through a number of things together, some of it was annoying, but also very entertaining. I still think you're lovely and charming." Ophis lifted her face hopefully again after hearing those words. "Every time I see you, I definitely don't want you to be just my friend, but I also don't think I've gone far enough to say that I love you." Issei gave her a toothy smile as he rested his hand on her head, causing the Dragon Goddess to blush a little. "You could say I like you a lot."
"But you still don't love me." She took Issei's hand in both of her hands in a tender gesture, getting the young man to smile at her.
"In fact, I think you're following the wrong order." Issei clarified, causing a slight flash of confusion to appear in Ophis' eyes.
"You love me?"
Ophis' eyes widened slightly after hearing that question.
"I imagine your feelings would be a huge problem after living with them for so long while they were nothing more than a void. But now that you've found valuable people, that void is breaking and you don't really know how you should act." Ophis looked at him with a huge surprise after hearing Issei's words.
"Do you also have the power to read minds?" The Dragon Goddess asked him with a rather peculiar gleam in her eyes, it seemed to be a gleam of admiration mixed with curiosity.
Basically, she was a child in a woman's body, as she had always been.
It was for that very reason that Issei was not going to take this matter lightly.
"Of course not!" Issei guffawed after such a question. "It was just a deduction. It's not hard to make it when you lived through similar things yourself." Issei clarified with a chuckle, a chuckle that was interrupted when the dragoness hugged him without any words.
"Don't worry, Ophis will never let you experience anything like that again. I will always be with you." The Dragon Goddess looked at him with great intensity after saying those words, causing Issei's surprise to be replaced by a slight smile.
"Same here." Issei reciprocated the hug gently, watching as the Dragon Goddess rested her cheek on his chest with her eyes closed, revealing a very relaxed face that was tinged with a slight blush.
They both stayed like that for several seconds, feeling each other's warmth without mediating any kind of words.
"So, Ophis can't do the things the others do until she thinks carefully about how she feels?" Ophis broke the silence, opening one of her eyes to stare at him.
"That's right. And when you make a decision, don't be afraid, I will always accept you no matter what the circumstance is." Issei replied with a slight smile, making Ophis study him with her eyes.
"And why don't you want to accept me now?" She said with a slight pout that instantly disappeared when she felt Issei rest a hand on her cheek.
"Because I don't want to take advantage of you." That answer caused the Dragon Goddess' eyes to widen. Indicating that she had truly been surprised.
"I see..." A tiny smile emerged from her lips after hearing those words.
Issei looked at her with slight confusion as the tiny little woman began to look at him with intensity as she stood on her tiptoes and returned to her normal posture. After a while, he finally understood what she wanted to do, so he couldn't help but smile at her.
Issei curved a little to allow Ophis to be able to kiss her cheek gently. He had to admit that it felt pretty good when her moist little lips were placed on his skin, even if it may have been for a few seconds.
The Dragon Goddess took her leave after that cute gesture, giving Issei one last smile as she lifted her hand and waved it weakly.
"See you tomorrow."
After saying goodbye to the Goddess, Issei went back to meet his fiancées and Great Red. For some reason, Tiamat looked quite excited and Penemue was as serious as ever, although there was a rather peculiar glow on her face that implied she was also quite excited. This was definitely something that piqued Issei's interest.
In fact, the dragoness' excitement was not long in coming when she finally saw him.
"Issei!" She greeted him with great energy when she opened the door. "You have to see this!" The young man peeked his face through the opening of the doorway, and his eyes soon widened at what he witnessed.
"What is this?!" Issei was quick to shoot his thoughts away, seeing that the room was quite, but quite unique.
Not only was it a notoriously gigantic bedroom for a single person, if that the floor was actually a bed that stretched into every corner of the room, being decorated by various pillows and other somewhat gaudy decorations, and for the most part they were rather cute stuffed animals that were accompanied by a large amount of red blankets that covered the entirety of the huge mattress. There were also a total of five hanging closets that spanned much of the walls, taking away a large window that was located in the center of the bottom wall, and behind that window a very luxurious and expansive bathroom could be seen.
"This is all just for one person?!" Issei thought aloud in utter amazement.
"This will be where the four of you will sleep." The brown-haired man looked at Great Red with widened eyes after that statement. "After all, you are a couple. And from what Elohim told me, you all are really active, especially the man in the relationship." The Dragon God focused his gaze on Issei after his last words, making the young man blush in embarrassment.
"Wait a minute, does that mean God was spying on us?" Issei thought with a roll of his eyes.
"If you don't mind, I need to talk to Issei about something important." Great Red clarified, then made a small gesture towards the bedroom. "I also filled all the closets with your own clothes. Each one has their names on it, you can go and take a look while you talked to him." Rossweisse seemed very excited at the thought of new clothes, so she dragged her two friends over without hesitation.
"Do you want to talk about that thing you told me in the morning?" Issei got straight to the point once they were alone, receiving a quick nod from Great Red.
"Now that you're a Dragon God, should know the possible problem you should face. And I don't mean any opponent, I mean yourself." Great red declared, gaining Issei's full attention.
"I'm all ears." He replied without hesitation.
"Since we are Dragon Gods, our body is much stronger than any other dragon, so we can withstand things that others of our same species cannot. Like, for example, the self-destruction we do to ourselves when we lose control over our emotions. But that doesn't mean we're free." Issei didn't comment on that and only managed to raise an eyebrow. "We are still dragons, and if we lose our sanity, we will be affected by those things we represent. Obviously I'm talking about a negative effect." Concluded the dragon with his brows furrowed.
"It was something I already assumed, otherwise Trihexa would have had to die a long time ago consequence of her own power, taking away the fact that she has long since ceased to be herself because of the mind control device." Issei's comment caused Great Red to look at him with some satisfaction.
"It's good that you were able to intuit all that for yourself, as it saves me several explanations." The Dragon God stated as he closed his eyes calmly, though it didn't take him long to open them again with that typical seriousness he always reflected. "As a Dragon God, you must learn to control your negative emotions, especially hate. That feeling can empower you, but it can also harm you if you're not careful, as happened to you at one point during our battle." Great Red folded his arms, widening his gaze more than usual. "But the reality is, I didn't want to talk about only this. From what I understand, you suffered an episode in which you lost your sanity when you barely transformed into Dragon God, but somehow you were able to regain control practically instantly. When Elohim told us about that we were as surprised as he was, since in the previous two cases it was practically impossible to regain control before a great deal of time had passed, enough time for your own strength to drown you completely." Issei put a hand to his chin after hearing his unspoken question, thinking carefully about an answer.
"As I said before, I can't remember much about that moment. The only thing I can tell you is that I was immersed in a kind of dream that helped me come to my senses." The protagonist's statement caused Great Red to look at him with slight confusion in his gaze. "I know this may seem ridiculous to you, but I think my own soul saw to it that I woke up, or that's how I wanted to understand it." Issei began to rub his hair, feeling somewhat overcome as he searched for a coherent answer. "In one of my previous battles I was also able to talk to myself for a brief second, though I really don't know if it was a real thing or just a regular dream. I just...I just don't know." He concluded with some frustration, managing to make the Dragon God's gaze soften.
"I've never heard of anything like that. Apparently, you can hold more surprises than we imagined." The dragon was sincere, seeing how Issei was somewhat grateful to see him settle for a very vague answer. "Anyway, it's not something I really care much about, the important thing is that you were able to get here without any problems. Being honest, I only asked you because I was kind of curious." Great Red culminated the talk with a slight nod as he prepared to leave.
"Wait!" Issei's call made the Dragon God look at him sideways. "Can you tell me what was the cause of Ophis ending up being affected by her own power?" Great Red had to admit that he was surprised at that question, and had no problem showing it openly.
"How did you know?" The Dragon God turned back around to face him, denoting quite a bit of curiosity in his voice.
"It's just logic. Now that you explained all this to me you simply took away all the doubts that still didn't have a clear answer. You also said that there were two cases in total, and I doubt that you suffered from it." Issei stated with a tilt of his shoulders. "After all, it's obvious that something happened to Ophis to make her end up with such destroyed feelings."
"You're a lot smarter than I thought. Though maybe not as much as you think." That last statement made Issei raise an eyebrow, as it struck him as rather unique. "From what I know, Ophis spent a lot of time with you, so you should be able to find the answer on your own."
At that moment, Issei's eyes slowly widened as his memory recaptured a rather close memory, when he had spoken to the Goddess after the battle against Thor.
"Her loneliness..." Was all Issei said.
"As such powerful entities, we exert an involuntary fear towards everyone else, and, as a result, everyone would walk away. I never had a problem with that because I was always someone who likes solitude very much. Trihexa was always surrounded by a few people thanks to having a different background just like you, but Ophis wasn't that lucky." Great Red closed his eyes regretfully, feeling a little pity for his companion. "She was alone since forever. At one point Trihexa managed to befriend her, but let's just say Ophis had a rather grumpy temper because of everything she was going through, and she gradually took that frustration out on the only person who would listen to her, and that made them fight irretrievably." Great Red looked up, as if recalling the denouement of a story that had already happened long ago. "After that, she was consumed by her own loneliness and it wasn't long before she lost her sanity. Being that her source of power is emptiness, her emotions paid the consequence and destroyed her inside until there was nothing left in her being but infinite emptiness." Great Red lowered his gaze again, focusing it exclusively on Issei. "...Or at least, so I had thought. Apparently, her emotions hadn't completely died and are slowly returning thanks to you." He concluded, then turned away.
"Thank you for taking the time to explain. She is important to me." Issei stated as he bowed deeply.
"Don't waste any more time." Commented the Dragon God, who began to walk. "They are waiting for you."
Issei just looked at the man without saying a word, then carefully entered the room. The serious expression that had been accentuated on him because he was thinking about Ophis' past changed noticeably when he saw what his fiancées were doing.
In fact, the change was so drastic and ridiculous that Issei had to cover his nose as he felt a powerful nosebleed about to hit him.
The reason?
It was right in front of his eyes.
And, in fact, it was a completely precious event according to his point of view.
"I didn't know these kinds of garments existed. I like them." Tiamat innocently stated as she posed in a casual way, making her body stand out even more than it usually did because of that bunny outfit she was wearing.
"It's not normal sleepwear, try not to wear it too often." Penemue was quick to warn her as she saw what her friend had put on, though perhaps she should be giving more attention to herself, as she was only in her underwear while holding a maid outfit between her hands.
"Now if I can self-proclaim myself Queen Valkyrie!" Rossweisse clapped her hands in excitement letting us see how she was wearing a royal fleece robe over her body that was ajar, so part of her hips and cleavage was easily visible because she was in her underwear. Although, to tell the truth, what stood out the most about her outfit was that gold crown on her head.
"Gi-girls!" They all looked at Issei, just realizing that their beloved had entered.
"What do you think?!" Tiamat gave a little jump as she approached him, making her breasts bounce in a very sensual way. "There's a lot of very peculiar dresses and outfits! You should see yours!"
"Is this what they call Fan Service?!" Issei shouted to himself in his mind as he did his best to hide his blush, and to his luck, Tiamat was too focused on guiding him to his closet to notice, while Penemue and Rossweisse waited to see the contents of it with much intrigue.
"Tachaaaaan!" Tiamat hummed in an adorable chant as she opened the sliding door of the large closet, causing Issei's libido to calm down as he saw the sheer amount of clothes he now had.
"Most of them are for training or casual." Stated Penemue, who was watching the clothes from afar with some curiosity, as was Rossweisse, though Rossweisse couldn't hold back and quickly approached.
"Let me look too!" She buried her face in the garments in a rather graceful manner, causing Penemue to sweat slightly.
"I never thought I had so many clothes..." Issei commented without being able to hide his surprise as he ran his hand through each of the garments, remembering that before he barely had his academy clothes and nothing more than that.
"What is this?" Tiamat asked with much curiosity as she removed an undergarment that had the image of an elephant in which its trunk protruded as a rather peculiar extra fabric, making Penemue and Rossweisse blush instantly.
Though without a doubt the one who blushed the most was Issei.
"That's something I'm never going to wear!" He exclaimed somewhat startled as he snatched the underwear from her, throwing it inside the closet without even putting it away properly, then instantly closing the sliding door.
"Anyway, I wonder why there are five closets..." Issei successfully diverted his attention, seeing that there was one closet too many, plus this one didn't possess a name like the others.
"Hmm..." Penemue hummed, demonstrating a slight but visible smile. "I get an idea who the owner is..." She concluded, catching Issei's attention.
"By the way, what did Ophis want to talk to you about?" The subject veered off again, though this time it was Rossweisse who did so.
