Rain pattered down over the darkened building. The soft massage of the water dripped over the mahogany bolted into the balcony. A quiet wind hushed through the rain, and the spray of the water brushed past the window pane of the living room.
The living room itself was quaint. Spacious enough for extra movement, but little decoration save for a leather couch and stacks of cardboard boxes yet to be unpacked by Izuku. The silver pallor of the obscured moonlight peeking past the heavy clouds drenched the room in a milky glow; not unlike the head of silver hair that cast a shadow as it dipped onto the bay window and pressed a small claw on the surface.
The shape, supported by miniature suction devices on the tips of her digits, lolled her head at the sight of the living space. She tapped on the side of an earpiece while the black visor obscuring her eyes beeped with a quick scan of the room.
"Anything interesting?" The lady said in a velvet smooth, smoldering tone. She held the tip of her index finger to the glass. A small blade jutted out from the padding, and the mechanical claw latched onto the glass. She circled the blade on the glass with a small hiss emanating from the surface. However, due to the rain, the noise was obscured.
"Just boxes and boxes of goodies," the girl laughed in a shrill, toe-curdling tone. "All for us!"
"Like taking candy from a baby," the woman said.
She popped out the small circle imbedded in the glass. The whole was just large enough for her lithe body, and she pulled herself through the crafted hole and landed on her hands. She flipped onto her feet and scanned the room with her visor.
Now inside, the woman smiled at the strange twinkling orbs in her gaze. She could only see black, but the dots showing the body in the other room was still dormant on what she assumed was the man's bed. The woman cracked her knuckles and senses her foot next to one of the cardboard boxes.
"Very well," she said to the voice in her ear. "Might as well get started."
Rip!
Izuku groaned and clutched the top of his head. His skull was iron atop his spine, and his forehead throbbed with his mouth parched.
He stretched out his legs and sat upright on the bed. His body rested on the green sheets, and he gazed out at his balcony to find the rain drizzling the wood. He was in that strange level of consciousness that made him unsure of his lucidity. He looked down and found himself to have no clothes on his body. He stared down at his hand and focused on the dark outline of his scarred fingers.
What had happened since he fell asleep? He tried to remember what happened within the past day. His only memories were flickers of light clicking through his eyes like a rapid film strip. His illness had disappeared, but his muscles were quite pained like he had run a marathon, and his head still had a harsh pain that made his eyes water.
His head perked up, however, at the random thump that snuck through the closed doorway.
Then, he remembered Momo. Entering his room. And then withdrawing her own clothing before his eyes.
Wait, Izuku blushed and covered his mouth. Oh, no. Was Momo here? And was she just as naked as he was? How could he be so unprofessional as to do something like this with his former classmate? Izuku bit his fist as he was about to scream, but then another thud vibrated through the room along with padded feet floating over the carpet in the living room.
"Hello?" Izuku asked in a whisper. There was no way that the person in the other room could hear, but he was afraid of catching the attention of what was likely his new co-worker on the faculty.
Izuku, trembling, stood up on his shaking legs and stumbled forward in the cold room. His body shivered from the light breeze flowing over his nude frame, but he fought himself to the door. Whatever Momo was doing, he would have to confront his actions and speak to her. How could he possibly face her after these events?
He grabbed the door handle. With a deep swallow, he closed his eyes and shouldered his way through the door.
Unable to see the living room, Izuku stopped at the doorway and blushed standing in the living room. He cleared his throat and straightened up his back in a show of mock confidence.
"Momo," Izuku said. "Are you there?"
"Already expecting guests, Professor?"
Izuku's eyes shot open at the sound of the foreign voice. Before him was not Yaoyarozo. Instead, it was a young woman just slightly taller than him wearing the most provocative, skin-tight black costume that cling to her curvaceous body that rivaled that of a supermodel. A white utility belt held a few gadgets along with a familiar black cane that she used all of her life. Her hands covered in black gloves, the woman brushed back the mane of silver hair behind her back while pressing a button on the side of her black goggles. One of the lenses slid into the frame, and a pair of dull grey eyes sparkled back at Izuku.
"Wah! Synaes!" Izuku screamed and bashed his back onto the doorframe. He grunted out in pain and froze in shock. It was not his former classmate who he had some kind of twisted fantasy about before sleeping, but it was his former student from U.A!
"Long time no…see. Right, Professor?"
Synaes Haukursdottir! Her quirk: Appraise! She can see and predict other people's actions using white orbs in her sight by ingesting their DNA!
Izuku looked down and covered himself up. "Synaes, I'm naked!"
"Well," Synaes chuckled. "I guess being blind has its advantages sometimes."
Izuku blinked and looked at Synaes' eyes which were simply staring forward in a blank glance. Remembering that his student was blind, he kept his arms over his body and let out a deep sigh. He was still hesitant over being naked in front of a former student regardless of whether he would actually be seen.
"Even so," Izuku braved a step forward. "What are going here? And why are you wearing…that?"
"You always said a costume should…accentuate your best attributes," Synaes gave a quick wink and ran a hand over her side as if she were showing off.
"That's not what I meant," Izuku squeaked and covered his mouth. "Okay, can you just please tell me what you are doing here?"
Synaes opened up the box by her feet and rummages through. "Austin was called to be in the test you did with those kids yesterday. He brought me along since there is a fashion show in town I was interested in viewing. Some of my pieces will be on display. I thought this would be a good opportunity to ask to borrow something from you."
"This is really not the best time," Izuku said. "And why are you going through my stuff?"
"Thought I could help you unpack," Synaes said. "How are things, Professor."
"They're okay," Izuku said. "I mean, outside of having my new school almost burn down, an earthquake, getting shot up by a gang, fishing a child out of a landfill, and getting hit head on in a car crash with one of my students, things are honestly not that interesting."
"Very good," Synaes said. "Me and Austin are doing well. I think he's still in the honeymoon phase with me. He just can't keep his hands of me, although most of the time on the one putting them on myself."
"Okay, I don't need the details," Izuku said. "Have you kept up with the rest of the class?"
"I've always been more of a solo kitten, Professor," Synaes teased. "In fact, I haven't done much in the way of Pro-Hero work since graduation."
"I noticed," Izuku said. "You switched to inactive status right after graduation. But Synaes, you're good at it. I know you could be a very good hero, and there's still time for you."
"I agree," Synaes said. "But I think my time would be better suited doing other things more…enriching."
Then, Synaes felt a strange fabric in her hand. She ticked her tongue and lifted up the piece of silk in her grasp to Izuku.
"And what would this be?" Synaes asked with a hand on her hip.
Izuku furrowed his brow. In Synaes' gloved hand was a small golden cape tattered on each end. However, the sheen of the fabric was enough to tell Izuku what it was.
"That was Gran Torino's old scarf," Izuku said. "The one he gave to me."
"Excellent," Synaes placed the scarf around her shoulders. She hummed to herself and sauntered over to the window.
The woman passed Izuku, and he gasped at the brashness of the blind girl who swung her hips past the man.
"Synaes," Izuku stepped towards her. "What are you doing?"
"Oh, right," Synaes turned around with an eyeroll. "You see, an important part of my fashion show tomorrow is sadly incomplete without a specific pashmina from the Kandahar region. I tracked down the person who has it, but he is sadly a bit of a big wig around these parts. Fortunately, he's quite a Pro-Hero nerd, so I negotiated a trade."
"What?" Izuku took another step to Synaes who stood by the window. "Synaes, that's my scarf! Gran Torino gave it to me!"
"It was steal from you, or steal from a man with a private army and all kinds of torture black sites," Synaes chuckled. "Sort of a no-brainer."
She placed a hand on the window. With one arm, she lifted herself up to the whole in the window and sat on the ledge.
"Synaes!" Izuku shouted. "You can't just steal things from people. Is this what you've been doing since graduating."
"Only to finance my fashion line," Synaes swung her legs on the ledge. "Once we get fully funded, I can focus on that instead. Oh, but let's be honest. I'll probably continue. This is just way too much fun, Professor Deku. And all I have to do at home is keep Austin happy and he is none the wiser. And trust me. He's very…quick to make happy if you know what I mean."
"I really don't," Izuku grimaced at the thought of his other student.
"Oh, but don't worry," Synaes said. "I'll be sure to try and steal the scarf back some day and give it back to you. And your window should be good as new when you wake up again."
"Wake up!" Izuku shouted. "Synaes, I have to call the cops on you! I can't have my former student doing this!"
"Feel free," Synaes said. "Just make sure to do it after you awake."
"I'm not sleeping," Izuku frowned. "I'm calling them now, and I'm giving you a major detention."
"Well, if you don't plan on sleeping," Synaes pointed at Izuku. "Make sure you remove that sleeping dart from your leg."
Izuku blinked and glanced down at his upper thigh. Sure enough, a small dart with a purple body labeled "sleeping dart" sat perched on his skin.
Suddenly, his limbs gave way. He fell onto his back with his eyes forcing themselves shut.
"No, wait," Izuku groaned out. "Synaes…."
"It was sure nice seeing you again, Professor," Synaes said with one leg out of the circle. She turned back around with a mischievous grin plastered on her face. "The handoff won't be until right before the show, so catch me if you can."
Izuku's head fell back as the burglar swung herself out of the building. A bolt of lightning illuminated the room for just a moment, but she was gone from his vantage.
With no more energy, Izuku had no time to process anything that had just occurred before his consciousness crashed into an ocean of sleep.
