Fear, Regret, and the Grave

Chapter 1

The day was cloudy, with a faint of sunlight and the winter wind rolled through an empty street, the playground once filled with the laughter of children was a dead silent space, every single vibrant of joy and happiness had been taken away from this small town. Only the bells of a Church could be heard throughout the land, as townsfolk walked in silence carrying roses and wreaths adorned with photographs of a once beautiful, smiling woman, the Father and his youngest daughter watched as family members and friends came to pay their respects and comfort them in their time of need and loss.

"Hiashi, I am sorry for your loss, I never knew she was in extreme agony and torment", said a woman with red eyes as she handed the flowers and wreath to Hiashi.

"Thank you, Kurenai, never in my life would I imagine Hinata commit such an act, I am ashamed to be called a father. Constantly busy with the family company, too focused on my career that I failed her when she needed help. A shoulder to cry on", said Hiashi, tears streaming down, Kurenai had never seen him like this and especially during a funeral. He showed zero empathy during his wife's funeral, including his twin brother, she guessed that he was getting a dose of reality, and this was his wake-up call.

His youngest daughter, Hanabi, was scanning the crowd for a certain Blonde-haired boy. She knew that he was still mentally recovering from the event that happened a month ago, she remembered how his cerulean eyes resembled a dark, cold void, his happiness and warmth soul were snuffed into oblivion, he wasn't the same.

"Where are you, Naruto?" said Hanabi with a worrying voice.

Meanwhile, Naruto was sitting under a tree, staring at the carved initials of him and Hinata with a heart etched around it. He could not stop himself from remembering what happened on that day, on that bridge, on their anniversary. He sat there wishing for death just to be with his love but no matter how hard he tried to commit the sin of suicide, he did not have the will to carry it out. He remembered the previous night they had a major screaming argument over her mental state, abusing medication, and Naruto's constant lies and suspected cheating.

"So, this is where you've been hiding, you know, Karin and Nagato have been running around looking for you", said a voice behind him. Naruto turned around and looked up to see his Teacher, Kakashi Hatake, he went back to looking at the etched symbol of love and sulked in his void of depression not caring about the man in front of him nor the mention of his worried cousins, the only thing he wanted the most was the blissful warm embrace of Hinata.

"You can ignore me all you want but I am not leaving, and that selfish attitude is only hurting everyone including Hinata's family. Everyone is waiting for you at the church." said Kakashi, the blonde teen did not spoke nor moved, he just stared at the engravings as his mind swirled him in reminiscence of the good times, he had with her. Suddenly a car came and parked next to them, both Nagato and Karin came out as they saw their cousin sitting on the grass, Karin walked towards Naruto and sat close to him. She pulled her cousin in a warm embrace with tears streaming down, Nagato stood next to Kakashi wondering if Naruto well ever be the same again.

"I know how much you loved her, but this isn't your fault Naruto, we all make mistakes, and we should learn from our mistakes in order to improve ourselves. You need to say your goodbyes and free yourself from this depression" said Karin with a sad voice still embracing him in a hug. Naruto looked at her and shook his head, tears starting to form, he pushed his cousin away and stood up. "I took our love and smashed it into dust, you should've seen the look on her face when I pushed her out the door, before I slammed it in her face", responded Naruto.

Nagato approached him and said, "Naruto, I think it is best that you should see her one last ti-", he was interrupted when a fist came flying at his face, knocking him down. The blonde teen got on top of his cousin and started to hit him, only for Kakashi to grab him and pin him down. He sighed in anger as he sat on Naruto, "You are starting to get on my nerves Naruto, we're out here searching for you. Worried out of our minds and this is how you are towards us" he said angrily.

"Well, I never asked any of this, you do not know what it is like to see the one you love turn into a cynical version of themselves and—" he stopped as sobs and cries overtook, Kakashi let him go and picked him up. The silver haired Teacher knew he was too harsh on him, but the blonde needed to know how he and the other two Uzumaki's felt at that moment. "I care about you, Naruto, but you aren't the only one feeling the weight of sadness. Hiashi and Hanabi are feeling it too, so are your friends and family, also Nagato is right about you seeing Hinata one last time. It'll help you" said Kakashi.

Naruto wiped his tears and nodded, he wanted to see his beloved one last time to say goodbye, but his feelings of depression and fear held him back from doing so. Kakashi, Karin, and Nagato comfort the boy and told him that everything was going to be okay, he eventually apologized for his behavior and for punching Nagato, who excused his violent outburst.

The 4 of them climbed into the car and drove to their destination, unbeknownst to them, a figure watched from afar behind the tree. It stared at the etched initials and heart with a look of malice, pulling out a hunter's blade crossing out the engravings with a crooked smile.
