Hello there, friends! Welcome to the next chapter of Avatar: Immortal Dragon.
Sorry for the delay, I got a busy in RL.
Hope you enjoy this chapter as it was one I've been looking forward to. And when I was writing it, I just kept adding stuff to it that I didn't realize it had become so long.
Now let's quickly get to the reviews.
Francisco J Garcia Jr: I haven't played FF16 yet, so I don't think I could do such a story justice. I know of the Invincible comic, just haven't read it. I'm mostly familiar with the Invincible series on Prime.
Now story time.
After a shower, Genji was wearing a pair of briefs as he dried his black hair with a towel.
"What a day." Genji said stepping into the guest room he and Asami shared, but he stopped in his tracks when he saw Asami wearing a dark red night velvet nightdress, the same one they had bought during one of their shopping trips.
"See something you like?" Asami said but she got her answer when Genji pounced on her and placed a kiss on her mouth.
"I guess you do." she said with a smile, "Hey, Genji."
"Yeah beautiful?" Genji said, softly touching the side of her face, "Something wrong?"
"No, nothing. I'm just happy." Asami said, "That your here with me, instead of going on a rampage."
"Oh, I still fully intend to go on an epic roaring rampage of revenge the likes that hasn't been seen in a five hundred years." Genji said as he got off her so they could sit on the bed, "It's just... Even if I would go off to find whomever killed the Master at this very moment, it wouldn't bring him back, so I'm not in a hurry. And there is this dangerous group after the Avatar, which might include you now... And if anything would happen to you, I don't know what I will do."
"Genji..." she said softly as she placed her hand on his.
"Your important to me, Asami." he said as he looked her in the eye, "And I'm not about to let what we have be lost in a mad rampage for revenge. I can't change the past but I can protect what I have in the present."
"Such a mature thing to say." Asami said with a smile, "Who are you and what did you do with my raging lunatic?"
"Still here... Just having my priorities right." he said with a soft laugh, "I love you, Asami."
"I'll never get tired of hearing that." she said, "I love you too, Genji."
The two laid down in bed, curling up against each other. Genji being the big spoon as Asami was the smaller spoon.
"You ever wonder where you would be if live had gone differently?" Asami said contently.
"Not really." Genji said, "I'm pretty happy where I am now."
And so the two lovers fell asleep against each other, slowly drifting off to the realm of dreams, a window looking into the infinity possibilities. Because time, space and reality aren't a linear path. It's a prism of endless possibility, where a single choice can branch out into infinite realities...
120 AG - Year of the Dragon
Genji was laying outside of a collapsed cave in a mountainous region far from republic city. During his fight with Xai Bau, he had ordered his underlings to collapse the cave, but luckily for Genji, he had managed to escape before he was caught in the cave in.
"Yeah, victory is mine." Genji said as he cleaned his blade of blood.
It had been a few days since then, Genji was walking up to the courtyard of Air Temple Island, where he saw Bumi and Kya playing.
"Hey kiddo's!" Genji said, walking up to the two as they where sitting in the courtyard where the two children where playing.
"Uncle Genji!" Bumi and Kya shouted, before rushing him and each hugging a leg.
"Did you just got back from a contract?" Bumi said.
"I did, nothing escapes your notice, does it?" Genji said with a laugh as he was still in his armor, "Say, are your parents home? I need to talk to them."
"Their inside, talking with aunt Toph." Kya said.
"Oh, boy..." Genji muttered.
He followed the kids towards the living room, where he saw his girlfriend Toph and across from her sat Aang and Katara, who was breast feeding baby Tenzin.
"You kids better run along." Genji said just as he was about to enter the room.
"But we want to spend time with you." Kya said.
"I know Sugar Princess. But where going to talk about boring adult stuff." Genji said patting her on the head, "I promise, we'll do something fun later." holding out his pinky.
With a big smile, Kya hooked her small pinky in around his much bigger one. The two went off back tot he courtyard as Genji let out a deep sigh, steeling himself before he went.
"Hey Twinkle Toes, Sugar Queen." Genji said with a two finger salute, "Seems I got here just in time for dinner." before placing a finger softly on the cheek of Tenzin.
"Genji, please have a seat." Aang said gesturing to an empty seat at the table, "I think you need to hear this, it's something serious."
"Your first mistake, Twinkle Toes." Toph said, her arms crossed, "That man can't take anything serious."
"Well I took it very seriously when you cheated on me. So I guess there is a first time for everything." Genji said walking over to a cabinet, looking through the selection of bottles, "Oh, come on Aang. Why the fuck you never have any good booze?"
"I will put it on the list of my things to do." Aang said, "Please have a seat."
"As long as it is on your list." Genji said, taking a bottle of wine as he sat as far away from Toph as he could.
"Toph, you where saying..." Aang said.
"I'm not going to dance around it." Toph said, "I'm pregnant."
"Oh, Great Spirit! First you cheat on me with Asshat. Now your preggers with his child!?" Genji said annoyed, looking at the bottle, "I need something stronger than this."
"No, Genji." Katara said, turning dead serious, "Whatever you might think, Toph has never slept with Kanto."
"What?" Genji said confused, "You mean..."
"Genji." Aang said with a deep breath, "You are the father."
"No, that's not true, that's... highly unlikely." Genji said as he began to talk more to himself than the others in the room, "I mean, Shashou's are basically sterile, like 99.9%. They are rare, but children of Shashou have existed. Me and Toph where sexually active, like really active... Well there is an easy way to see if that is true."
"What will you do?" Aang said.
"...Was I talking out loud?" Genji said confused, "Well, I can use a modified version of the 'Genome Test'. We used it to test which version of a monster we where hunting. But the modified version will allow to see if I'm related to someone."
Time moved and before one could realize, nine months had passed. Genji and Toph tried to make it work, at least to try and give their upcoming child a normal home. In the waiting room in the hospital, Genji was sitting next to Aang while Toph has in another room having gone into labor.
"You know, Aang. I actually hope it's mine." Genji said, looking at the vial in his hand, it was primed for the Genome Test, "I wanted some rug rats of my own. A couple of little boys. Raise them up to be men..."
"You do know it's also just as likely it's going to be a girl?" Aang said.
"Fuck no." Genji said much to the confusion of the Avatar, "A daughter of mine is going to be a man."
The two men waited for the doctor to enter and give them the news. Toph had given birth to two healthy baby girls.
"The fuck." Was the first thing out of Genji's mouth.
The Genome Test had turned back positive, confirming Genji to be the father and he did took his responsibilities as a father.
Naming the twins Lin and Suyin, Genji and Toph did their best to raise them. Both of them inherited the earthbending prowess of their mother and lesser versions of the mutations of their father.
Due to Toph's childhood being one of constant restriction, Genji and her gave the two sisters much more freedom. Putting contracts on a back burner for a while, Genji spend his time home with the girls while Toph continued her work as chief of police.
With her always busy and Genji's carefree parenting style, led Lin and Suyin to competing for his attention.
But he did his best to divide it equally, while he trained them in the ways of a Shashou, though with far less brutal way then he had been as a child.
128 AG - Year of the Rat
Aang had arrived outside the court house in Republic City. He was walking up the stairs when Genji comes running up to him.
"Genji, your back." Aang said, "Had a good hunt?"
"Pretty big contracts, actually." Genji said, "One was enough to put both Lin and Su through Royal Fire Academy for Girls."
"I see..." Aang said with a nod, "Why are you here?"
"Oh, I was requested. But it's a good thing I ran into you." Genji said as he crossed his arms, "We need to talk Aang."
"Must be serious, because you addressed me by my actual name." Aang said a bit worried, "What's it about?"
"Well I've heard you've been taking Tenzin on trips to the Air Temple's. Teaching him the ways of the Air Nomad, which is understandable." Genji said, "But your leaving Bumi and Kya behind. What's up with that?"
"Genji, this is really not a good time." Aang said glancing back at the court house, "This is a very important case..."
"The Yakone case? Why do you think I'm here, old friend?" Genji said to his surprise, "Toph thought something might get out of hand."
"Toph actually asked you for help?" Aang said as the two men walked up the stairs.
"We might argue a lot." Genji said with a grin, "But you can't deny we work well together."
Just outside the court room, Genji stopped as Aang was about to enter the room.
"Might be best if I hang back a bit." Genji said, holding up his fist, "Good luck in there, Twinkle Toes."
"Genji, I'm forty years old." Aang said, fist bumping Genji, "You think you could stop with the nicknames?"
"Never!" Genji said with a laugh, "Not even in your next life."
Watching from a shady spot on the upper balcony, Genji had a view of the entire room as he could see Aang and Toph in the front row, while he spotted Sokka in his seat on the council.
"Yakone has ruled Republic City's criminal empire for years. Yet he has always managed to stay out of the law's reach, until now." Prosecution attorney said to the council, "You will hear testimony, from dozens of his victims, and they will tell you, Yakone has maintained his grip on the underworld by using an ability that has been illegal for decades. Bloodbending."
"The prosecution's entire case is built upon the make-believe notion that my client is able to bloodbend at will, at any time on any day. I remind the council that bloodbending is an incredibly rare skill and it can only be performed during a full moon." the Defense attorney protested, "Yet, the witnesses will claim that my client used bloodbending at every other time except during a full moon. It would be a mockery of justice to convict a man of a crime that is impossible to commit."
Later that day, the United Republic Council returns from their deliberations and takes their seats with councilman Sokka delivering the verdict.
"In my years, I have encountered people born with rare and unique bending abilities. Why, I once bested a man with my trusty boomerang who was able to firebend with his mind." Sokka said, "Why, even metalbending was considered impossible for all of history until our esteemed Chief of Police, Toph Beifong, singlehandedly developed the skill. The overwhelming amount of testimony and evidence has convinced this council that Yakone is one of these unique benders and he exploited his ability to commit these heinous crimes. We find Yakone guilty of all charges and sentence him to life in prison."
Sokka pounds his gavel to seal the decision. The defense attorney crumples up a paper, throws it, and slams his fist on the table in annoyance. He looks toward his client as Yakone slowly stands up, grinning.
Yakone eyes begin to suddenly bulge. Sokka cries out in pain as his body is contorted and after a moment, the other councilmen cry out as well.
Toph is briefly shocked before trying to stop Yakone by metalbending her cables at him. Yakone rolls his eyes at her, incapacitating her immediately. He laughs as he turns and sees the entire room under his control. Aang struggles as he reaches out his hand to Yakone.
The criminal grins as he is relishing at his own power as he makes her grab a ring of keys from her deputy's belt and float over to him. He forces Toph to unlock his cuffs, which bounce to the ground. He flexes his wrists, and raises his hands to bloodbend everyone into unconsciousness. He turns to see that Aang is still awake and levitates him high into the air.
"Yakone." Aang said with difficulty as his arm is bloodbended behind his back, "You won't get away with this!"
"Republic City's mine, Avatar. I'll be back one day to claim it." Yakone said, "This time I'm gonna put you to sleep for good!"
Aang groans in pain as Yakone levitates him into the air and begins contorting his body to painful and near death positions. But suddenly Yakone screamed in pain and lost his control of Aang as a blade sliced through the air.
Yakone was forced to bend the blood in the stump to prevent him from bleeding out. He turned around as he felt a hand slap him hard in the face.
"Why are you hitting yourself?" Genji said, "Why are you hitting yourself, Yakone?", sword in one hand as he slapped him again with a severed arm, which he was using to beat the crime lord into submission.
"Damn it, Genji." Aang said painfully as he recovered, "That's very grim, even for you."
"Just trying to give you a hand." Genji said gesturing to Aang with the severed arm, "So is it now a good time to talk about you neglecting your other two kids?
This was something the two friends had a good laugh, and would have in the future when they recounted that tale.
136 AG - Year of the Horse
Life was good for a while, Genji and Toph tried to make it work between them, even if it was just for the kids. But sometimes, even your best isn't enough.
Some things aren't meant to be.
"Hey, kids." Genji said one after noon as the family sat in the living room with the now sixteen year old girls, "We need to talk."
"Are we in trouble?" Lin said.
"No, no. You aren't in trouble." Genji assured them as he looked at his two girls, "But it is important... Your mom and I..."
"We're getting a divorce." Toph said bluntly to the horror of their children.
"Subtle, Toph." Genji said annoyed.
While a divorce is never fun, what was one of the things Genji liked was looking for a new place. Because Toph got the house...
Lin and Suyin run out of the elevator and into the empty penthouse, Genji walked behind them as the kids looked around the place.
"This place is huge!" Suyin said as she spin around in the middle of the room, "Look at that view!" before rushing to the glass door and onto the balcony to see a magnificent view of Republic City.
"You girls like this place?" Genji said as he leaned against the wall, "Because I'm thinking of buying it."
"The entire building?" Suyin said.
"Yeah, we won't have any neighbors so we can throw some sick parties." Genji said with a grin as he looked around the room, "I'm thinking of turning the ground floor into a nightclub... Lin, what's wrong?" when he noticed his other daughter.
"Dad... Be honest." Lin said softly, "Are we the reason you and mom got a divorce?"
At once, Genji moved from his place and walked over to his daughter and pulled his daughter in a reassuring hug.
"No, no. Your mother and I... we work well together, but we just didn't work as a couple." Genji assured her, "We don't agree on much anymore, but we both agree that you two are the only thing we don't regret coming out of our relationship."
"Then..." Lin said confused, "Then why do you want to leave and go back on the road?"
"I won't be gone, it's just traveling for work." Genji assured her, "I will never leave you two willingly."
Genji pulled Suyin into a hug as well, "I have taken a lot of bad things out of this world, but you two..." he admitted, "You two are the only good things I have ever put back in it."
138 AG - Year of the Dog
Two more years passed and the girls where now 18, to his pleasant surprise the girls wanted to spend the end of summer and fall on the road with him. Working on contracts until they would go to Ryu Basho to spend the winter there.
Genji was currently reading the newspaper as he was getting his shoes polished. He had gone to the same shoe shiner for a few weeks now and he had struck up a conversation with the young man every now and then.
They discussed the young man's idea of mass production of automobiles for the common man.
"You know, I've been thinking about your idea. But I understand you're dirt poor... No wait, even poorer than that." Genji said, "Well, that should be obvious. This isn't the most glamorous job... Now, I'd hate to see you lose your chance at your dream just because you're short a few yuans."
He took out a small booklet from his pocket, writing something down before handing a check to the young man who looked perplexed, "Is that not enough?" Genji said confused, ripping it up before writing a new one, "Take more. It's only money."
"Are you..." the young man said surprised, "Are you a philanthropist?"
"Well, I've been called worse." Genji said, handing the check to the young man, "I will be watching your career with great interest, young Hiroshi."
Being back on the road, with his two favorite girls, it was the best moments in a long time. It reminded Genji of the time he had spend with the Gaang so many years ago.
It was at a small village in the Earth Kingdom, which was being terrorized by a local bandit clan. A contract had been put out and Genji was currently negotiating with the mayor about the price while Lin had gone around the village to collect as much information as they could about the bandits.
Suyin was wearing her black Shashou uniform, her sword on her back. She was leaning against the wall with her arms crossed waiting until she was approached by a young man around her age.
"H-hey, your one of the Shashou's, right?" the young man said nervously, "From the stories I heard, I thought you people had horns."
"Maybe I had mine filed off." Suyin said with the same sarcastic tone her father would use.
"Well, I'm just happy your here." he said with a smile, "A-Anyway, I'm Baatar. The mayor is my dad. If you need any help around this town, just let me know."
"Thanks." Suyin said with a smile.
The both of them blushed just as Genji came out of the office, the little interaction between the two did not go unnoticed.
"Su, we're going on a hunt." Genji said, gesturing for her to follow him.
"Right behind you, dad!" Suyin said turning around to the young man, "See you around, Baatar."
"Y-Yeah." he said with a wave, "Happy hunting."
Once outside the town hall, Genji gave a glance at his daughter, "So... That boy looked cute." he said, "I think he likes you."
"Dad!" Suyin said embarrassed much to his amusement.
It was during the night, just outside the bandit camp, two of them where on patrol. They turned a corner and they where startled when they came across Suyin, cleaning up her sword.
"Hello there." Suyin said with a wave.
"Hey!" one of them said, "What are you doing here?"
"Taking in the views, there is some pretty scenery around." Suyin said as if she was discussing the weather, "Also distracting you."
Before the bandits could react, Genji and Lin dropped down from above, each putting the guards into a chock hold and as they passed out, they dragged them into the shadows.
The trio of father and daughters made quick work of the bandits, using the shadows to their advantage. Picking them off one by one until only a few remained, along with their leader inside the the largest tent.
Genji charged forward, weaving his way through the fast yet predictable patterns, knocking the wind out of him with a single punch before gripping his head and turning it so his neck was broken.
As the body dropped to the floor, he ducked under a strike aimed at his head, Genji used the momentum to swipe the bandit's leg, making him fall off the ground. Screaming in pain as Genji cracked his skill by striking with his elbow.
Blood poring over the ground, as Genji spin's around to see how his girls where doing.
Lin evaded under a sword swing, delivering a punch against the throat of her attacker, breaking his windpipe. She turned around to bend a rock upwards before bending it forward, slamming it against one of her sister's opponents, knocking him out to the ground.
"Thanks, sis!" Suyin said before side stepping an attack before stabbing him through the stomach, the man falls to the ground as Suyin spin's around and slices his head clean off.
The father and his daughter turned to the last remaining bandit, their leader who was cowering in a cornor, as his group had been taken down so fast and efficiently it almost seemed supernatural. It was then that the feeling of pure fear washed over the bandit leader as he saw the trio walk over to them. Forces of nature where coming for him, something that couldn't be argued or bargained with.
In the middle of the village square, a tied up bandit leader was dropped on the ground as Genji stood proudly with his two daughters, each on his side. As Genji was receiving payment for their labor, he noticed a his youngest talking with the mayor's son Baatar.
Leaving her to talk with the young man, Genji and Lin went to the local inn for a few drinks and a bite to eat.
It was warm, and smoky inside the small inn. A curvy sort of woman with a pretty face was serving a bunch of rowdy men up at the bar.
Genji and Lin made their way to the back of the room, where there was a small, vacant table next to the window close to the fireplace. The barmaid came over five minutes later, placing two tankards filled to the brim with beer.
He was about to take out money to pay, but the woman stopped him, "No worries. It's on the house." she added with a wink directed to Genji.
"She seemed to like you." Lin said.
"Of course." Genji said raising his tankard, "Who doesn't?"
"Mom." Lin said dryly.
"...Yeah, good point." he admitted as the two began to drink.
But it was at that point Genji noticed his eldest fidgeting with her tankard, not touching the bitter yellow brew inside of it. Which was out of character for her as she usually would keep up with him in that regard.
"Lin, is something wrong?" Genji said concerned.
"Everything is fine, dad." she muttered before looking annoyed, "Stop looking at me like that."
"I will." Genji said as he was leaning on the table, slowing inching closer, "If you tell me what's eating your ass."
"Dad..." Lin said with a deep sigh, "I want to go back to Republic City."
"What?" Genji said, having thought he had done something wrong, "Why?"
"I've just been thinking, this life, it might not be for me." Lin admitted, "After our stay at Ryu Basho, I want to back to Republic City and join it's police force. It's the place where the people I love live and... I want you to have a place to come home to."
"That's... a good reason." Genji admitted, "You sure it's the only reason? Not a certain Airbender?"
"He's one of the reasons." Lin said with a nod, "Your taking this very well."
"Because it's a path of your choosing, what kind of father wouldn't support that for his child?" Genji said raising to his tankard, "To the new chief of police."
The father and daughter grin before downing their drink.
149 AG - Year of the Rooster
It had been eleven years since Lin had joined the police force, already having been made detective in her first year. Suyin meanwhile had gone off on her own, accompanied by Baatar, who she had began dating after a year of visiting his village.
Lin had been good on her word and was now in a relationship with Tenzin, much to the delight of Genji and Aang, giving the two friends more excuses to see each other.
Genji was on the pone in his apartment, he was in conversation with Lin, who had been seeking advice about a case.
"...And that is all I can think of." Genji said.
"Thanks dad." Lin said over the phone, "Also, look out the window."
Genji turned around and his eyes widen as his pupils dialade when he saw it. Up in the sky, drawing in a smoking trail made a plane where the words 'I Just Had Sex'.
"That's my girl." Genji said with a big grin.
150 AG - Year of the Dog
But the good times never last, sometimes the pendulum swings to the other side. Eventually Lin and Tenzin drifted apart, as they had different goals in life. Lin was sitting on the balcony of her fathers penthouse, silently watching the streets below.
She was slightly startled when she felt a hand on her shoulder.
"Can't sleep again?" Genji said softly, but his daughter simply drops her head to her chest in response.
Genji kneels beside his daughter, caressing her hair, "My little Wyvern, I have tried to give you as much space as you've needed, but I'm worried. You're not sleeping, you're barely eating."
Lin blinks, silently listening to her father's words. Hesitating for a moment, her eyes closed, "Dad... I..." she said, looking up, tears rolling down her face, "My period is late..."
"...That's nothing to worry about." Genji said, "Way back when, auntie Akali's was late three days and then it just came..."
"Mine's three weeks late." Lin said, holding her stomach, "I am pregnant."
Genji gasps as Lin glances at her. The father leans over and hugs his daughter's head, Lin taking hold of his arm.
On insistence of Genji, Lin confessed to Tenzin she was pregnant with his child, thought while he didn't expect them to get back together, with Tenzin now dating a girl named Pema.
And so nine months later, the day came. When her waters broke, Lin was rushed to the hospital where she gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
The baby was laying in a small bundle of blankets in Lin's arms, laying in bed with Genji, Toph, Tenzin, Aang and Katara around the bed.
"A boy." Lin said, tears of happiness in her eyes, "A beautiful baby boy."
The door suddenly opened and in came Suyin close behind her a panting Baatar. Seeing the look of pure joy on her father's face, and the little bundle of joy in her sister's arms.
"Fuck yeah!" Suyin said with a raised fist, "I'm a aunt!"
"Watch your words, sister." Lin told her younger sister, "We don't want his first word to be 'fuck'." but both just laughed too overwhelmed by their happiness.
"Sorry we're late." Baatar said, still out of breath, "Traffic was terrible."
"So what is his name going to be?" Katara said.
Lin gave a look over her son, his small hand placed in her much larger one, "Ichiro." she said with a smile, "Ichiro Beifong.
"Nice to meet you Ichiro." Aang said, "Welcome to the world, grandson."
And so Avatar Aang, who had accomplished many remarkable things in his life, managed to meet at least one of his grandchildren. But sadly, his time in this world came to an end. And like the cycle of the seasons, the cycle of the Avatar began anew...
157 AG — Year of the Snake
An Ostrich Horse is galloping through the dimly lit streets of the Southern Water Tribe, the figure was wrapped in a black cloak with a hood covering his face. Stopping his ride animal as he came to the door, he dismounted and tied the animal down to a post before knocking on the door.
The door opens to reveal a tall and muscular Water Tribe man, light shining out of his house.
"The White Lotus has honored my family by coming." Tonraq said, he inclines his head respectfully, "Thank you."
"Oh, I'm not White Lotus." Genji said as he lowered his hood, "But I do some work with them and I was visiting a friend of mine, so I was close by."
Inside, a woman with two braids is sweeping the floor with a broom. As she notices the visitor and she stops.
"Welcome." Senna said, briefly bowing her head, and tugging her right braid behind her ear. A shield hanging on the wall falls down and rolls across the ground to come to a stop near her.
"Beautiful daughter you got there." Genji said to Tonraq, "I can see where she got that from."
"That's my wife." Tonraq told him as he walks toward his wife and puts his hand over her shoulder.
"Oh, right... Of course..." Genji said hands on his hips, "So, what made you think your daughter is the one?"
"Korra!" Senna called, "Please come in here!"
Suddenly, a slab of earth flies past Genji, whose eyes grow big in astonishment. Quickly turning to the right to see who bent the earth, a young girl stands within a round hole in the wall.
"I'm the Avatar!" Korra said proudly raising her fist in the air, "You gotta deal with it!"
She jumps forward, and punches to the left, leaving a trail of fire. Performing a roundhouse kick, she sends a small fire arc toward Genji. She subsequently extends a small portion of the earth from the ground.
"Yeah, that's the one." Genji said with a smile as the girl looked up at him, "Nice to see you again, Twinkle Toes."
158 AG — Year of the Horse
It was during a snow storm that a group of kidnappers attempted to take Korra, but luckily Tenzin, Sokka, Zuko and Tonraq where on the scene.
Sokka was fighting ontop of a truck against the group leader in hand-to-hand comabt as Tenzin, Zuko and Tonraq where being held off by the bending of Ghazan Ming-Hua and P'Li.
The Southern Water Tribe Chief was knocked off the truck by a sudden leg swipe from Zaheer, sending him rolling of it. This would have been the end of the master swordsman if not for the arrival sounded by the load roar of a fast snowbike.
"Come on!" Genji shouted, having caught his friend and pulling him on the back on his bike, "This is no place to die!"
"Always know how to make an entrance!" Sokka said before the bike sped up close to the truck, dodging the Combustionbending from P'Li.
"Okay! Who invited Sparky Sparky Boom Ma'am!?" Genji shouted, "Sokka! Take the wheel!"
"Got you, Genji!" Sokka said, moving his arms around Genji taking over.
Taking a slingshot from his pocket, something he had intended to give to his grandson, he loaded a pebble, taking aim before taking the shot. The pebble shot through the air, riding the wind and hitting P'Li right in the forehead. The firebender was stunned for a moment, her bending disrupted.
"Okay, speed up." Genji said and his friend did.
Taking out his sword, Genji slashed the wheels of the truck as they went, causing it to lose control as it began to slip before coming to a stop.
Dazed, the group came out of the truck. Zaheer shook his and was just clear enough before he was laid out on the ground by the flying punch from Genji as Tenzin, Zuko and Tonraq joined them. With the five of them, they stood no chance and soon they were apprehended and would be detained in four maximum security prisons scattered around the globe.
With the Avatar saved, Genji was returning to Republic City for the upcoming 8th birthday of Ichiro. But on his way back, he spotted something odd at one of the mansions he would pass when he would return to his city.
Either there was a break-in happening or the owners where moving at like three in the morning. Stopping his car and getting out of it, Genji stuck to the shadows as he made his way into the mansion.
Taking one of the robbers in a chock-hold, Genji moved them into the shadows where he left him after he lost consciousness.
Genji recognized him as a member of the Agni Kai Triad. "Guess this is a robbery." he whispered but he was distracted when he heard a commotion coming from the main hall.
Rushing into it, he only had a second to take in the circumstances in the room and act accordingly. It seemed one of the residence of the mansion, an attractive black haired woman of Fire Nation descend, had woken up.
One of thee Agni Kai's had been startled by her sudden appearance, sending a blast of fire towards her.
At once, Genji rushed across the room, tackling the woman to the ground and blocking the blast of fire with his own body, taking the full brunt of the attack.
"You okay?" Genji said and the woman nodded, "Okay, good, good. Go call the police, I got this."
As he stood up, he pulled the woman up to her feet. With her running towards another room, Genji taking off his burned cloak before it could damage his armor.
"You think you can take us all?" the Agni Kai Triad said arrogantly, "We're going to have some fun with you."
"In ten minutes, the police will arrive. Until then, you are all my bitches." Genji said as he cracked his knuckles, "So bite down on that pillow, I'm going in raw!"
Genji rushed forward evading under their fire, before preforming an uppercut to the nearest Agni Kai, sending him flying through the air and into the wall.
"You don't seem to understand." Genji said as he continued his assault, "I'm not locked in here with you." avoiding their attempt to attack him from behind by jumping over it, gripping one on the back of his head before slamming him into the ground as he came down.
Blood pooled around the area his face had meet the floor as he laid there quite still.
"Your locked in here with me!" Genji said as he initiates a hand-to-hand combat with two of them.
A blast of fire was bend towards his head, but the Shashou evades at the last second before striking him with a powerful strike aimed to the stomach, making him slump to the ground.
Another one attempted to strike him, but he averts the course with his left hand and kicking him into a nearby statue.
Genji charged forward, he evaded the incoming fire with a sideway movement, before knocking him out with a full moon kick. He recovered, throwing a swing, but Genji easily ducks under it, gripping his face before slamming him hard against the ground.
Standing up straight, he looked around the room of unconscious bodies and one dead one, of the defeated Triads.
His attention was drawn to the door where he saw a young girl, a bit younger than Ichiro, with long raven hair and big green eyes.
"Who are you? What's going on?" the girl said, "Where's mama?"
"Hey there, princess. I'm Genji." he said kindly, "These bad guys where going to steal your things, your mama's things and your daddy's things, so I stopped them. As for your mama..."
At that moment, the woman came back, her eyes wide when she saw her daughter standing there. The young girl ran towards her, "Mama!" she said as she was embraced.
"Asami!" the woman said relieved, having been looking for her daughter after calling for the police.
Genji was standing outside the mansion as police had pulled up, as the Agni Kai's where being put into ambulances, and one was rolled out in a body bag.
"Only one dead? Are you losing your edge in your old age?"
It was Lin, who had come walking up to her father.
"Of course not, detective." Genji said with a smirk, "Just thought you wanted to interrogate them yourself."
"It's chief now actually." she said much to his surprise, "I wanted to tell at Ichiro's birthday party, but I just couldn't help myself."
"This is so great!" Genji said a she hugged her, "Congratulations, Lin. I know you worked hard for the position."
A car pulled up to the mansion and out of it stepped a worried looking man, who looked vaguely familiar to Genji.
"Where is my daughter?" the man said distressed, "Where's my wife!"
"Daddy!" Asami said as she comes running towards her father, followed closely by her mother.
Taking his daughter in his arms, Hiroshi began to cry tears of joy as nothing happed to the two most important people in his life.
"Hiroshi, it's okay." Yasuko said as she embraced her husband, "Where shaken, but unhurt."
"I don't know what I would do if anything happened to you two." Hiroshi said relieved as tears rolled down his cheeks, "Thank the Spirits."
"I think we can thank someone closer nearby." Yasuko said with a small smile as she indicated Genji.
Hiroshi followed where his wife was looking where he seemed to recognized him, "You..."
"Yes! It's me!" Genji said as he stepped forward, "...Who are you again?"
"You don't remember?" Hiroshi said surprised, "I'm Hiroshi Sato, from your selfless loan, I built the entire Future Industries empire."
"...I don't remember any of that shit." Genji pondered, "Did I used that as a tax write off?"
"You don't remember loaning me a huge amount of money?" Hiroshi said surprised.
"I have so much money, it hurts." Genji said casually.
"Drop the act dad." Lin told him as he chuckled.
"It's good to see you again, Hiroshi." Genji said, shaking his hand, "You've moved up in the world."
"Master Genji, I know I have no right to decline you." Yasuko said, "But you aren't going to take our daughter are you?" looking at the little girl in her husband's arms.
"Okay, I'll bite." Genji said confused, "Why would I do that?"
"I remember stories of Shashou, how they would save your life and as payment, they take your child." Yasuko said, "Are they true?"
"That's an old rule, back when people didn't had anything of real value to pay for our services. I have no intend nor interest in taking your daughter to become a Shashou." Genji assured the Sato's, "If you want to repay me, just send me a nice bottle of whisky."
"I will." Hiroshi said gratefully, "Thank you, Master Genji. I won't forget this, I'm forever in your debt."
"Don't mention it." Genji said as he was about to leave.
"Mister." Asami said suddenly, "Thank you."
"Your welcome, princess." Genji said, patting her on the head, "Be a good girl to your mom and dad."
159 AG — Year of the Sheep
The skies of the Southern Pole was decorated with high, thin clouds. An elderly Katara was standing to a six year Korra. The elderly woman has her eyes closed in concentration as she calmly bends some of the ice at her feet, creating a stream of water which she moves around herself.
Korra glances at Katara, mimicking her stance, while from the door of their home, her parent's where looking on.
"Now watch me, Korra." Katara said, "Waterbending is all about slow, calm movements."
Korra turns toward her master. Squaring herself and smiling proudly, she throws her fists out in front of her, bluntly bending a wave of snow past her.
"What's up, Water Tribe!" Genji shouted as he comes walking up with his nine year old grandson.
"Gramps!" Korra said excited, but she saw that she had bend the snow towards the boy, burring him in the snow.
"Ichiro!" Genji said panicked as he began to dig in the snow with his bare hands, "Don't worry, grandpa is coming!"
"Grandpa, I'm fine." Ichiro said being only partially covered in snow, next to where Genji was digging.
Katara laughs warmly as she picked up her grandson, removing the last of the snow as he checked his eldest grandson for any injuries.
"Gran Gran, it's good to see you!" Ichiro said with a smile.
The elderly woman got a loving smile on her face, "It's so good to see again, little Ichi." she said.
"I'm so sorry, Genji, Katara." Senna said, her face filled with remorse, "Korra doesn't seem to know her own strength."
"Senna, it's alright." Genji laughed it off, "Learning control takes time, practice and a good teacher."
"Korra, that was too rough." Tonraq said, kneeling down next to Korra, putting a hand on her shoulder, "You could've really hurt Ichiro."
"I didn't mean to.", Korra said, walking over to the young boy, "I am sorry Ichiro."
"Come on, Korra, it's okay." Ichiro said, trying to sound as if trying to impress her, "I might be an airbender, but I'm also a Shashou."
Korra giggled at his remark as the adults observed this little interaction. "Ten yuan that those two end up dating." Genji said to Tonraq.
"Yeah, no deal." Tonraq said as he watched his daughter interact with the little airbender.
Genji smirked as thick, darkening clouds come rolling in, the mountains far in the distance, usually white with ice and snow, have turned a sultry gray.
"Looks like this training as to be cut short." Senna said, "A storm's heading our way."
Genji noticed the look on Korra's face, knowing she got to spend more time with her friend. The howl of a polar bear dog sounds over the frozen tundra. "Polar bear dogs?" Genji said, "Sounds like a whole pack."
It was then that the two young children howl's, imitating the sound.
"Daddy, can we go play with them?" Korra asked.
"You can't, sweetie. Polar bear dogs are wild animals." Tonraq explained, "They'd gobble you up in one bite."
"They don't scare me!" Korra said, puffing out her chest, "They can't stand against the first Avatar Shashou and the first airbender Shashou."
"Don't look at me." Genji said quickly as the adults gave him a look, "I didn't plant that idea in their heads."
160 AG — Year of the Monkey
Genji was sitting on the steps at the front of his night club, smoking a cigarette, a habit both his daughter thought was disgusting. But it was a last smoke before he would start a trip towards Zaofu, the city Suyin had founded with her now husband Baatar for Opal's 6th birthday.
It still brought a smile to his face when his son-in-law, who over the years had become something Genji would call a friend, had approached him and nervously asked him for his blessing to ask for Suyin's hand in marriage.
Genji had to prank him in some form, he challenged Baatar to a drinking contest, which of course the young man had no chance of winning, but accepted any way.
But his reminiscing was stopped when he noticed a commotion coming out of the nearby ally way.
With cigarette in his mouth, Genji went to investigate where he saw a family of four, a father, mother and two son's each a year apart.
Both parents where laying down on the ground, both killed by the firebending mugger, leaving the elder brother to protect the younger.
Seeing what he had done, the murderer was about to run away if not for Genji preforming a flying drop kick, knocking the man to the ground. The firebending mugger attempted to stand up, but felt his head pressed against the ground, one armed pinned painfully behind his back.
He attempted to firebend but his concentration was broken when one of his fingers was snapped.
"Don't try it, buddy." Genji growled, "Or do, you still got nine fingers and a lot more bones for me to break until the police arrive." before gripping the man and smashing his face into the cobble street, knocking him out.
"Mom? Dad?" one of the young boys said, "Please, wake up."
Genji's small heart shattered a little as the younger brother was kneeling by the bodies of his parents as the elder tried to remain strong for the youngest.
"It's okay." Genji said softly, as he approached the two boys.
The older one stood in front of the younger and his parents body, "It's okay, we got the bad man." he said taking a knee to talk on their eye level, "I'm Genji. Who are you two?"
"Mako." the eldest said, "That is my brother, Bolin."
"Mako, Bolin." Genji said, putting a hand on Mako's shoulder, "It's okay, I promise, it's going to be okay."
Taking his coat off and putting it around the two boys, "It's okay."
It had been a few days since then, he was had taken Mako and Bolin under his wing, using them to run errands for him back in Republic City and in exchange he gave them lodging, food and money. But he was currently on a trip, Genji had decided to stay in Zaofu for a few more days so he could spend more time with Baatar Jr., Huan, Opal and the newest addition to the family Wei and Wing.
"Hey, dad." Suyin said as they walked through the hall of her estate, "Have you reconsider my offer?"
"Su, you know family is the most important thing to me, but..." Genji said regarding his daughter's offer to come live in Zaofu, "But Republic City needs me. It might not be perfect, but it's home."
"I understand..." Suyin said with a hint of disappointment, "Whatever you decide to do, I hope you do come visit as often as possible."
"Oh, you know I can't stand to be too long away from Opal." Genji said with a smile, just as he bumped into someone.
But he reached down and managed to catch a small arm before the body could hit the floor. It was a young girl between Ichiro and Korra's age. She had black hair, a tanned skin, and a small mole under her green eyes.
"Hey, kiddo. You okay?" Genji said but the girl just nodded, staring up at him, "Su, this isn't one of yours right?"
"As a matter-of-fact she is." Suyin said, "This is Kuvira, my protégé. Kuvira, this is my father. Genji Chirayus."
"Oh wow." Kuvira said impressed, sounding like a fan meeting her favorite idol, "Your the famous Genji Chirayus."
"Notorious, maybe." Genji said with a smile as he shook hands with her, "Listen well to Su, she learned from the best."
"Actually dad." Suyin said, "I thought you might want to help with Kuvira's training when your here."
"I mean... sure?" Genji said with a shrug, "If Kuvira is okay with it."
"Yes!" the young girl said a bit too excited before composing herself, "I-I mean, I would be delighted, Master Chirayus."
"Okay, first order, call me Genji." he said, "Titles make my skin crawl."
170 AG — Year of the Horse
It was a busy night in Genji's club, where the man himself exited the elevator, dressed to impressed as always, in a classic combination of a black business suit and white shirt. He made his way through the crowd, deciding to have a few drinks.
"Looking good, Genji!" Bolin said, serving a table their drinks.
Mako and Bolin where still in his employ, giving them a safety net as they where taking the Pro-Bending scene by storm with their team The Fire Ferrets, sponsored by Genji's Club.
"Same goes to you, Bolin." Genji said with a wink before looking at the occupants of the table Bolin was serving, "Oh, and ladies, he's single."
He made his way towards the bar, just when someone bumped into him, spilling the contents of her glass all over his white shirt.
"Oh, no! I'm so sorry." the woman with long raven black hair said, "I didn't see you." she immediately took a few paper napkin and began to try and rub it out.
"...Your only making it worse." Genji said annoyed as the stain began to spread.
The woman looked up to him, her long raven hair fell over her flawless face, and beautiful light green eyes with purple make that only added to the allure.
"Oh, I'm sorry." she said shaking her head, "I'm such an idiot."
"Hey it's okay." he said casually waving it off, "Don't worry about it."
"I am so embarrassed." she said reaching out to shake his hand.
"Pretty unusual name but not one to judge." Genji said with a shrug but he shook her hand, "It's nice to meet you So Embarrassed. I'm Genji."
"What? No." she said surprised, "My name is Asami Sato. We've met before..."
"Wait, Sato... Oh, your Hiroshi and Yasuko daughter!" Genji realized as he looked her over, "You... have grown up. Like really. You went from just a child to a woman! An eleven out of ten woman!"
"Why thank you." Asami said with a giggle, "Let me make this up to you somehow. Uh, how about..."
"Well, I wouldn't mind having your company while we have a drink." Genji said with smile, "Perhaps a few."
"I would like that." Asami said smiled back.
Genji snapped back to reality, waking up when sunlight shined down through the window. His face, neck and chest was covered in Asami's lipstick. The woman herself was resting her head on his chest, her green eyes looking at him.
"Morning." Genji said, pulling his girlfriend closer, "Did you sleep well?"
"I have been awake for a while now, but yes, I slept very well." Asami said, "I have just been watching you sleep. Did you know your eyelids flutter when you dream? And you have such pretty eyelashes. They are like little butterflies... I want to catch them and keep them in a jar."
"Alright, let's go get a jar." Genji responded with a smile of his own upon hearing Asami laugh.
"Did you had a nice dream?" Asami said.
"I think so, don't remember much." Genji admitted, "It was a good dream, mostly... But now... I just feel a bit sad."
Chapter 30. Which is basically one big What If.
I wanted to do a chapter like this, exploring the things that would change with Genji actually being there.
Normally I would write something like this as a bonus chapter, but like chapter 22 and 23, I decided to make it a part of the main story.
Anyways many thanks to everyone who reads, reviews, favorite or follows this story, much gratitude!
