Chapter 1: The Nutcracker Suite:
Faina's POV:
My name is Faina, and I am the Grand Duchess of the Brestarawen Kingdom. My parents are Tsar Siegfried and Tsarina Odette. I'm also twelve years old. Anyway, it's Christmas morning and you know what that means, time to open presents. With me was Dominik. He's also twelve and he's my bodyguard. That's a lot of pressure. His parents are the royal advisors to my parents. I got my gift... "What is it," I asked.
"It's a nutcracker," says my Mom.
"Wow, it's..." It's ugly, but I'm not going to tell them that.
"Faina, behind an ugly face, hides a handsome prince," says my Mom.
I then took a look at it. I don't know what it is, but I was starting to like it.

I was then with my friend, Gala. Her parents were the friends of my parents.
"Wow, it's the ugliest thing I have ever seen," says Gala.
"Watch it," I said.
"What was that about," asks Gala.
"I guess I love it," I said.
"I'm just saying you're the Grand Duchess, I think your parents can do better with gifts," says Gala.
"So, are you sleeping over tonight," I asked.
"Yep, my parents are okay with it," says Gala.
"Great," I said.

Before lunch, my Mom would teach me ballet. I'm getting better at it. I haven't tripped as much lately.

"We have a serious rat problem," says Dominik.
"Ewe, I hate rats," I said.
"I've seen them," says Gala, "and they're mice."
"Either way, someone should do something about them," says Dominik.
"Can't you just take a night off," I asked.
"I'm a bodyguard," says Dominik.
"You're also a kid," I said, "just relax." I then kissed my nutcracker and put it on the dresser.
"I gotta be honest," says Gala, "you're starting to creep me out with that thing."
"I know it's not exactly Prince Charming," I said, "but there is something about it-"
"I am not going to be a toy's best man," says Dominik.
The two then laugh. "Very funny," I said.
