Kakashi brought out a blanket to drape on Sakura's shoulder as night descended. Sakura smiled at him as she kept the cloth around her frail form. Yumi is standing behind her parents witnessing the care and love they had for each other. And she wished that they would stay like that. But Sakura is getting frailer. She stayed for a longer time than all of them anticipated. The purple seal in her forehead is already faint.
Kakashi carefully drape his arm around Sakura's form and rested his hand on her shoulder. She leaned into his side and rested her head in her chest.
Yumi hesitated for a moment before joining them, afraid that she would disrupt the peaceful air that surround them. But she approached them, and crouch near Sakura, in a way that she used to do when she was just a child. "Can I get you anything, Mama?"
Sakura slightly raised her head to look at the young woman peeking just above Kakashi's head. "No, sweetheart. I have everything I need right here."
The air carried a heaviness, the unspoken acknowledgment of the challenges they faced. Yumi looked between her parents, a mixture of sadness and determination in her eyes.
"Is there anything I can do?" Yumi asked, her voice steady.
Sakura smiled at her daughter, gratitude filling her gaze. "Just being here with us is enough, Yumi. Your presence means the world to me."
Yumi nodded, a mix of emotions crossing her face. She settled beside her parents, forming a circle of warmth and love. The night unfolded around them, stars glinting overhead, a quiet breeze rustling the leaves. In that shared moment, the weight of impending loss was momentarily eclipsed by the simple joy of being together.
Kakashi tightened his hold on Sakura, his gaze fixed on the stars. "Remember the time we used to stargaze together?" he murmured.
Sakura chuckled softly, the sound carrying a tinge of nostalgia. "Yes, those were simpler times. But this, right now, is everything I could have wished for."
Yumi listened to her parents, a bittersweet smile on her face. She knew that their time together was almost to its end, yet the love and connection between them filled the air. It was a fragile, beautiful moment that she wanted to hold onto.
As the night deepened, Sakura's breathing became more labored. Kakashi and Yumi stayed by her side, offering silent companionship. Sakura, in turn, found comfort in the warmth of their presence.
Eventually, the first light of dawn began to paint the sky. Sakura's eyes, filled with a mix of weariness and contentment, met Kakashi's. "Thank you," she whispered.
Kakashi pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. "For what?"
"For everything," Sakura replied, her voice barely audible. "For loving me, for giving me a family, for being my home."
Tears welled up in Kakashi's eyes, and he pressed Sakura closer. Yumi's gaze blurred with tears as well. In that fragile moment, time seemed to both stand still and slip away.
As the sky started to turn into light indigo, Kakashi felt Sakura's head lolled slightly to the side. The absence of the soft breath caressing his skin is like a kunai stabbing him repeatedly
As the sun started to peek from the horizon, Kakashi's tears started to cascade down his cheeks as he held the lifeless form of the woman that meant to him the most.
