Chapter 66: Lagnus & Ally: Surprising Meeting by warelander
Lagnus stood in front of his locker, organizing what he'd need for the coming classes.
''Math, English, economics…how's anyone supposed to keep track of that?'' He mumbled, not helped by his lesson plan being pretty torn and scratched up.
He really ought to stop stuffing that stuff into his backpack and get himself more folders. Him and Sig were one of a kind with that.
While he was still busy looking around, a girl began to walk close by, when all of the sudden, she got shoved to the side by someone.
''Uff.'' The girl lost her footing for a bit and accidentally dropped her books.
''Sorry!'' The boy who ran into her called out, before running, seemingly in a hurry for something.
Lagnus stopped when he felt something slide up to his shoe. A book. Seems to have made it all the way over to him.
He diverted his attention from his locker for a bit and dropped his backpack to pick the book up for whoever lost it.
''Here yah g-oh!'' He turned to see who the girl was, it turned out it was Ally.
''Oh hey there, it's you!'' He called her, handing the book with a smile, which the girl gladly returned.
''Thanks, Lagnus~ It's been a while.'' She greeted him back, now having all her books again.
''It has, yeah. I hear Ess has been fine again since? Her and Sig have been hanging out a bunch.'' He got back and Ally did the same in turn.
''She's been doing great again, all thanks to that great thing you guys set up to help her~'' The love enthusiast gushed, barely able to contain herself.
Lagnus blushed a little, rubbing the back of his head in a flustered manner.
''H-Happy to hear.'' He responded, sounding visibly flattered, now turning back to his locker to overplay it.
Ally caught onto it and giggled a little, which did not fall on deaf ears.
God he liked that giggle. That playful, good-natured attitude, for some reason he felt like he was missing that sometimes.
Ally moved over a little but stopped herself. She could have said bye and been on her way, but she didn't really want to. Turning back around she saw Lagnus still busy with his locker, but more than anything, she noticed something else.
Stickers of fantasy creatures plastered on its inside, a textbook seemingly for RPG Dungeon Master purposes if the small sack of dice next to it was any indication, and that little sword keychain lower down on his backpack.
The boy wore what he loved on his sleeve and Ally could very much respect that, if anything she wished everyone was as comfortable about their likes.
Finally done with everything, Lagnus zipped up his backpack and closed his locker, ready to take off, when he realized Ally was still standing there. It made him jump a little in surprise, but the girl took that in stride.
''Sorry! Didn't mean to stare!'' She apologetically waved her arms around. ''I just thought of how you remind me of my sister. She is also really into her big interest.'' She explained herself, now feeling a little flustered herself.
The RPG fanboy paused a little to think, trying to figure out what she meant. Wasn't there this plush she kept carrying around? Yeah, that made it click.
''Ah yeah, that Blaffie thing.'' He answered, almost more to himself than anything.
''Yeah. I sometimes wish I could help her find more people to share that love with, but she doesn't really like talking to people much…'' Ally lamented, looking uncharacteristically a little sad by that, her expression changing from a smile as bright as sunshine, to a frown as gloomy as a rain cloud.
Seeing someone so usually upbeat that way was more than a little jarring, this really seems to have been nagging her.
''I'm sure she'll find someone. Give it time.'' Lagnus didn't have much better to go for, but he couldn't just say nothing.
Still, that little something clearly reached her, as she looked up to him and shifted that frown to a smile. Still more mellow than her usual energy, but sweet as ever.
''You're right. I just need to let her do things at her own pace.'' She admitted to herself, knowing trying to force her into things wasn't gonna do Rafisol any good.
''And if she needs you, you'll be there,'' He reassured her that she could still play a part, having picked up on that being something she could use a reminder of.
Maybe he'd make for a good cheerleader, not that he considered it, but that male uniform did look cool…Nah.
Lagnus wasn't even sure where his mind was going at that point.
Regardless, Ally sure got the message, looking as if the spark was slowly coming back to her.
''Thanks Lagnus.'' She said, tilting her head with a sweet smile, showing she was doing fine.
Lagnus nodded, with a grin of his own, a little proud of himself for that one.
The duo stood there for a bit, just silently looking at the other, before taking their first steps. They walked side by side, continuing to remain quiet the whole way as they made their way together through the crowded hallways.
Neither said a thing and it wasn't even an awkward silence, but rather a strangely comfortable one. They didn't agree to go together or say anything, there was just this wordless understanding they both wanted to do this.
Both weren't sure if they ever felt something like that before, but they knew they liked it.
Not before long though, they arrived at Ally's class, the two now pausing for a bit, remarkably in sync, as Ally began to move over to the door, but not without sparing Lagnus another look.
''See you around~'' She chirped, giving him one last grin before disappearing into the room.
''Yeah.'' Lagnus simply replied, not sure if she could even hear him and feeling a bit alone now that she was gone.
Surely though, they'd still run across each other plenty of times no doubt.
More concerningly, Lagnus looked over to the clock nearby.
''Crap! I'll be late!'' A startling realization hit him.
With no time to waste, the boy ran as quickly as he could to ensure he would still make it on time.
Moments later the sound of someone tripping and shrinking could be heard….

WARE: Been a hot minute, hasn't it? Truth to be told, there was never an intention to put the fic on hiatus, but real life, a new job, other projects and health reasons all came together to put it on ice for quite a while.
Not anymore though, it's back and I am excited to work on it again.
