Bastiana turned hungack, not wanting to watch Gibbs fawn over this woman, who was obviously infatuated with him, while she stood just a few feet away.
He was freaking smiling at the woman. Bastiana hates the way Gibbs' smile makes her feel. Hates the rush of warmth and the shiver of arousal that courses through her each time. What is it about that expression, she wonders, that makes her go hot and hard all over? It makes her want everything she knows she can never have.
She couldn't even remember the last time Jethro Gibbs had given her that smile.
The lawyer notices that the woman is sat right next to the director actually. She looks away when she starts to feel the beginning pangs of jealousy form in her stomach.
"Holli." Gibbs said kissing her hand."Nice to see you again."
"Pleasure is all mine "The woman smiled.
"You remember my team. Tim McGee , our new Agent Alana Vernon and Antony Wolf!"
After briefly shaking Tony's hand, without actually looking at him, she dismissed the rest of the team with a curt, "We've met." and turned her back on them. Holli went to stand directly in front of Jethro, offering her hand and a knowing smile.
"Like I said before It's a pleasure to meet you again Gibbs. I look forward to working with you." She told him in a gravelly voice, holding onto him for a beat too long as she caressed the back of his hand with her thumb.
"Good to hear"
For a moment, Gibbs didn't react, his attention still fixed on the woman , staring Hollis Mann down over Bastiana's shoulder. Then he pulled his gaze away, steel blue eyes turning to her with an intensity that sent shivers down her spine. She'd almost forgotten what it was like, having the man's undivided attention. It was something she could never get enough of.
"And this is Bastiana Wolf. The woman how save us a lot of trouble with paperwork, courts and of course put up with my bastard self!"
They all blinked, trying to process fully what Gibbs had just said.
Seconds pass.
No-one moves.
People around them stopped breathing, watching Hollis rose an eyebrow at the Gibbs.
"Sorry... what?" Tony asked muttered.
Then it clicked. Soon he let out a laugh, shaking his head
''Yeah, keep feeding her ego, that's exactly what she needs.''
''Antony, are you jealous by any chance? It's no secret I'm dashing and fabulous. And irrrresssistible.'' Bastiana smirked, wiggling his eyebrows.
Everyone chuckled at his words and Tony rolled his eyes, but said nothing.
Hollis glances at the lawyer , who was walking toward them with a smile on her face.
"It's pleasure to meet you!"Hollis aid and stood up. She smiled and held out her hand for a handshake.
"Me too"Bastiana greeted, passing Tony a cup so she could shake the other woman's hand, giving it one firm shake before stars the brain work.
She was definitely beautiful, with big blue eyes, pouty lips smeared with red lipstick and brown, curly locks cascading down her back. Bastiana averted her scrutinizing gaze as she noticed the outrageous amount of cleavage peeking out through her blazer and just how petite the woman really was. By all accounts, she was drop dead gorgeous.
Way too gorgeous...
Bastiana felt the uncontrollable urge to make her disappear and the way this woman was looking at Gibbs like he was hung the moon.
Bastiana freezes at that. She shouldn't be but she's more than a little displeased though. She's... she's... she doesn't know what she is right then, but it's not a feeling she's accustomed to. It's unfamiliar and she doesn't like it. It's bitter and she hates it.
She knew jealousy wasn't healthy and good. Jealousy was not a proper justifiable emotion but then again she wasn't feeling jealous now was she? Surely not seeing Gibbs smiles at another woman should not be grounds.
Bastiana turned and strolled out of the room.
"She's real friendly isn't she." Holli chuckled looking at Graves.
"You have no idea." Tony sighed as he stared at the door Bastiana had just disappeared through. He ran his hands down his face. This was not going to end well...not for everyone.
"This was humiliation"She thought walking away toward the elevator.
She gave up all her morning tasks because she wanted to see Gibbs just had her being cast away by him. Standing away watching him laugh and talk with her.
"Hollis Mann!" Bastiana said the name slowly with a scowl on her face, the jealousy was a green mist that washed over her body in a slow caress of her skin, it was unexpected but she did nothing to rid herself of the emotion.
Why was she being ignored as if she was insignificant? She was Bastiana fucking Wolf ,proud owner of a law firm and refuse to be hurt by his actions.
Bastiana wanted nothing more than to throw a tantrum. But that would be childish, and if there was one thing she wasn't, was a child.
"Mom."
"Mom."
"MOM!!"
Bastiana jumped, literally jumped at the sound of Tony's voice, before turning to face him.
"What?"
Then realizing just who she yelled at, flinched, but the damage was done and Tony pulled away from her.
" I am soo..."
"It's ok!"Tony cut in. He started walking, circling her." Why are you here?I know you don't like to leave the firm..."
She waited for a second for him to finish, and when he didn't, nodded slowly, a tight feeling settling low in him stomach.'Katrina!"
"She is fine"She replied rolling her eyes."I am here for you!She told me everything"
Despite living together, Katrina rarely saw Tony at home. They rarely slept together anymore, ever since Tony had started sleeping at the office. Tony was avoiding her
A wedding ring, a son, what good was it all if she couldn't even save this relationship from falling apart? She loved Tony.
But Katrina had had enough. Enough waiting and watching as Tony's attitude slowly grew colder, as everyone else seemed to be able to move on with their lives while Katrina was left behind. Without Tony by her side, Katrina's world was crumbling.
"Mom you don't und—" Tony breaks off, clearing his throat as tears cloud his vision.
"Understand?," Bastiana breathes out a laugh, followed by a sharp, pained intake of breath. "Understand what? That you abandoned you family for the work?"
Did she really just say that? To him!
To a man who was trying to work hard in a toxic environment with people who couldn't see his true face and make fun of him every day and at the same time, he was trying to protect his family from this toxic environment and its people. He missed birthdays and anniversaries because of this mission, a mission to protect his family, staying behind in the office processing evidence and suspects, while correcting Ziva and McGee's mistakes
To the man who almost lost his birth because he was undercover for a case, to the man who saw his son through photographs, a son who couldn't talk to his colleagues about, because of his mother paranoia?
Okay, he had agreed to his mother's plan to keep the truth about his life a secret, but no one knows what the cost was.
"God, why do you have to be like this?" She asked exasperated.
"Like what?"
"Like a child."
That got a response.
"A child." Tony stood, turned, cocked a hip, and tilted his head. I'm going to remind you of a fact you and some others keep forgetting." Tony stated, "I am a grown man. I make my own decisions. I have been for a while, or have you forgotten what yourparanoia do to us?"
"No," She said staring at the floor. "You don't have to remind me."
He blinks and looks away. Bastiana watches his forehead crease in thought before he shakes his head a little.
Bastiana squares his shoulders. "I am aware of what was the consequences of my plans, but never wanted to make you feel like you a child. I didn't mean to. That was never my intention."
It's exactly what she did, though but Tony doesn't say it, the words too cruel to speak aloud.
"You will stay away from my business. What is.going on between me and my wife , it's between us!"
Badtiana felt absolute fear at the ice cold calm in her son's voice and eyes. She understood he'd crossed a line here and being his mother wouldn't be enough to spare her from her son's wrath. Bastiana had a strong sense of self-preservation and took the hint.
She froze for a heartbeat as Gibbs looked over his shoulder at her and smiled, and her heart fluttered as she looked into his eyes. There was nothing different about him - he didn't style his hair any differently, and he hadn't changed his clothing style, but he was emitting this aura that drew Bastiana in. Her attention was caught on his eyes, and they somehow glittered in the light. She would never admit this to anyone, but his smile and his eyes were the two things she absolutely loved about him.
She watched awkwardly (with that damned smile still on her face) as the woman kissed Gibbs on the cheek and murmured something in his ear, and she had the sudden urge to either scream, kick Gibbs in the shin, push that bitch away, or do all three.
Bastiana knew she should look away, that she should walk away, but something had glued her feet to the ground. She couldn't stop staring at how Gibbs looked at the woman, and she wished that he would look at her like that.
Her heart sped up at the thought as soon as it crossed her mind, and she blinked furiously, trying to keep any emotion off of her face, removing the smile from her face. Through much effort, she forced her eyes away from the couple and focused her son.
"It's good to see you smile again."
Bastiana's eyes snapped back to Tony's face, and he immediately noticed the flush there. "What?"
"Nothing, it's just..." Tony cleared his throat awkwardly and sat up. "I noticed I hadn't seen you smile these past two months. It was always fake, or incredibly sad."
Bastiana looked down at the ground. It was true. Bastiana hadn't been happy, but she'd thought she'd been doing a reasonably good job of hiding it
I'm delighted, ecstatic...-"
"But?" Bastiana quipped.
"He's um...he's a colorful character, and I mean that in the best way possible." Tony began, trying to watch his words as to not offend Bastiana. There was nothing genuinely wrong with Gibbs, but he was definitely someone to watch yourself around. I can see you are perfect for eachother."
"Really?"
"Yes, you have similar personalities."
"Everyone here doesn't seem to like his personality."
"I think you're both just misunderstood." Tony explained. "Wait, I still have to process that information," he said. Bastiana just stared at him hand amused and waited for his permission.
"You dating my boss," He finally said." First it was Hotch, Specter and now Gibbs.."
His facial expression was unreadable, and normally, Bastiana could read anyone like a book. She couldn't tell whether Tony was thrilled, worried, happy, or just overall unsure. It was a little bit of everything to be honest. Once Tony noticed the slight frown forming on Bastiana's face, he spoke without further delay. "What?"
"Uh huh." Bastiana's smile fades as she looks down at her hands. She takes a deep breath."Tony, we are not together. We are just friends"
Tony's eyes widened for a moment before softening.
"Why you thought something else?"
The look on Tony's face was nearly laughable, honestly
He looked confused, offended, and ofcourse, bordering on annoyed, all at once.
She had to leave. She had to get away. She was running again, and she knew it. But she couldn't deal with this. Not now.Not when Tony looks at her like that. Not when Gibbs was touching Hollis and kissing her. Not when she wanted to be in her place.
She murmured a quick goodbye, saying she'd see him in home, and walked away as fast as she could without making it seem like she was in an absolute hurry to get away from them.
There was no way she could be jealous of her. Bastiana nearly scoffed at herself because what even? Leroy was...Leroy. She tried to think of all the bad things about him. He was annoying, he was dumb, he tried to upstage her all the time, he had the most infuriatingly blue eyes, and he had the most eye-catching smile she'd seen.
Bastiana's eyes widened as she realized that even her brain couldn't come up with anything seriously bad about Gibbs.
She wanted to look back.
Had they really been flirting? She hadn't heard what they were saying, but the redness of Gibbs's cheeks and the way the woman had been eyeing him had certainly made it seem that way. It brought up a whole other slew of questions. Did that mean Gibbs try to move on? Somewhere on the spectrum that was a little further down from 'single' than Bastiana had assumed?
Not that she'd thought about it before now, of course.
She shook her head,It wasn't any of her business. Besides, it didn't seem right to speculate, especially when she and Gibbs werefriends. What did it matter? It didn't affect her.
Maybe you want it to , some annoying little part of her whispered. She violently obliterated it and swept the dust into a vault somewhere deep, deep in the back of her mind.
Katrina hummed contentedly, pressing her face into Tony's shoulder as they both caught their breaths. She reached up, tracing a finger across Tony's lips before cupping her jaw, thumb tracing her husband's cheekbone lazily.
"I love you," she mumbled, mouth still pressed into the skin of Tony's shoulder
It took her far longer than she cared to admit to realise that Tony had tensed beside her. In her post-sex haze, she was on cloud nine, totally in love and totally content. It wasn't until she felt Tony shift that she realised the muscles in his arm were twitching just a little, pulled taught. Her eyes fluttered open, a sense of dread she didn't entirely understand filling her up as she raised her head to look at the man
Tony swallowed, and Katrina watched the bob of his adams apple, chin resting lightly on his sternum before she raised her head properly, trying to meet Tony's eyes. But Tony was staring at the ceiling, lips pulled into a thin line, forehead creased.
"What's wrong?" Katrina asked quietly, running her fingers feather-light across Tony's shoulder and down his arm.
"Nothing," Tony said quickly, pushing Katrina off him lightly so he could sit up.
Katrina watched the muscles in his back and shoulders work, his entire body tense as he sat on the edge of the bed, back to Katrina, and she felt his stomach drop, the taste of bile hitting her throat as her eyes began to sting.
"Tony," she whispered, reaching out to touch her husband's shoulder before thinking better of it.
"I'm gonna shower and make us something to eat," Tony said without looking at her, grabbing a pair of sweatpants before heading for the kitchen.
Katrina's stomach was churning as she watched the love of her live walk away.
When she heard Tony rummaging in the kitchen, she took her chance to have a quick shower. Her chest tightened as the scent of Tony's soap reached her nose, and she realised she would be walking around smelling like the man she loved for the rest of the day, knowing that man didn't love her.
When Tony saw Katrina walks.away, he knew immediately something was wrong. With dread pooling in his stomach. Something had happened. Something was wrong. Alarm bells rang inside his head, accompanied by the unsteady drum of his heart as he pushed the bedroom door open.
Katrina was throwing things into a bag, rummaging through the cupboard, likely in search of her own mess of things, things that had gotten tangled up with Tony's, like they should be, where they belonged, despite how much Tony pretended he required order and set sides.
Tony stood to his feet. "Kat, love, I,-"
"I'm not your, love"His wife hissed, her eyes narrowed dangerously. "You will answer my questions."
He felt that pit of fear in his stomach and nodded slightly. He was standing just a few feet behind Katrina, watching him imperviously.
"Okay, Katrina," he said, looking up at her angelic face.
"Who is she?"
Hearing it for a second time was somehow worse that the initial time.
''What?''
He knows he's breathing hard, and he knows he's panicking, but he can't quite bring himself to care.
He's also vaguely aware of the fact that Katrina is talking to him, but he can't for the life of him focus on the voice.
Not when he's possibly lost his entire future.
Not when the love of his life accused him of doing something he'd never do.
He mentally goes through every recent interaction he's had with women that weren't Kattina, but he can't for the life of him figure out what he could have possibly done that Katrina would consider cheating.
Because it's as simple as that; Tony is respectful and loyal and as far as he's concerned, he's never done anything that he wouldn't feel comfortable with if the situation was reversed and Katrina was the one doing it.
Hell, he can't even remember the last time he looked at a man who wasn't Katrina and had any even remotely romantic or sexual thoughts or feelings about that woman.
He barely looks at other woman, he doesn't ever hug other woman (besides the female member of his family and, on an off chance his mother) so what on earth could have convinced Katrina he'd been unfaithful?
He's on the edge of a bloody panic attack.
He's done something to hurt his favorite person on earth, to betray his trust.
And he doesn't even remember doing it.
Which is weird because Tony usually remembers everything.
He stepped closer. "How could you asks such a question like this?" he asked in a low voice. He saw her expression shift and knew he'd let too much rawness creep into his throat. She searched his eyes and he could only imagine the pain she must be seeing, the pain he was trying unsuccessfully to hide.
"What?" she said with a shrug."You cheated on me with-.."
"There is not cheating!"
"Then what the fuck is going on?"Katrina suddenly yelled, her voice echoing through the entire condo.
She can see it on his face when it registers what she were talking about and the blanching of his face causes she to gets angrier for some reason. She stand up quickly from her position on the bed and instinctively he holds a hand out in attempt to calm her.
"You act weird and cold toward us, toward to your own fucking wife and son. You are always at your phone and at work. You stopped texting me and visiting me bet you've even withdrawn from Amy, and your mother ." Katrina said knowingly.
She watched as Tony, with his eyes swimming in unshed tears averted his gaze to the floor, a look of utter devastation on his face. It was confirmation enough that Katrina's words had hit home.
Katrina took the final step and closed the distance between him and Tony, standing right in Tony's space as she spoke.
"What is going on?"
" I am totally fine. Its just something that invols work." Tony said defiantly.
" The Hell you are." Katrina seethed.
Tony's entire demeanor shut off as he rose from his seat and tried to walk off. Katrina was up in a heartbeat as well.
" Don't you dare walk away from me Wolf." Katrina growled as she stomped after the agent.
"I want a divorce." It came out strangled, and yet her words were clear him. She shook her head wildly, her curls bouncing like springs. "No, I want an annulment."
The dam burst and Tony couldn't help the dry sobs that escaped from him. "Please don't," he sobbed.
I can't do this anymore!"
"Let me fix what I broke," He was whispering into her ear, settling them down so he could support her weight against his chest,
"It's not broken, Tony," she murmured. "Just...bent."
"Can I straighten what I bent?" he asked, grinning in relief when she laughed.
"If I ask you one more time—"
"Yes."
"—will you answer me" She raised her eyebrows.
"Yes," he repeated. He wanted to make a dozen promises, but he knew it wasn't the time.
"You act like you afraid of something or someone" She started, and he shushed her gently." You are always on your phone and I thought that.."
"No, Kat , don't think that." He was saying, and Viola frowned. He still wasn't meeting her eyes. "You haven't done anything, I promise. It's..."
"Well?"She called out, repeating a little louder when Tony didn't respond.
"Someone is after us!"
