Chapter 36: Explosive Cabbages (or Klee & Nahida go out Fish-Blasting)

Nahida had a new hobby in life. Fish-blasting was indeed a blast as the name would entail.
Sure, she wasn't the kind of girl that would harm entities for random purposes. But she definitely would do so if there was a scientific way to harness lessons through the experience. In this case, she was purposely learning the power of explosives. She had waited for a while to get a chance to test out Klee's explosive talent, with her dad saying that he had to be around so 'Jean has no reason to be worried about what they were doing'.
While that made the day with Klee less-exciting, the introduction to Diona made up for that missed opportunity. Cat-ears, feline attitude, and a generally adorable 'tsundere' personality? Nahida was happy she made a new friend that she could tease from time to time. It was like Qiqi, except this one was actually very reactive to the flustering rather than being a pushover.
Still, Diona was busy for the day so she couldn't tag along for the fish-blasting. Setting up the explosives and finding the right lakes around Mondstadt proved to be quite entertaining. Klee had so many bombs to try, and there were so many fishes that it didn't lead to any major disturbance to the local presence of these species. Plus, they got plenty of fish to conserve and then use for meals.
John mentioned something about 'teaching Klee about BBQ cuisine' once she was old enough to grasp the importance of harnessing fire. After all, in a sense, explosives were one thing and fire was another thing entirely. But Nahida could see Klee's potential in engineering. And the two were keen to put mind and heart into some of the bombs they prepared for the day.
The explosive nature of Dendro and Pyro combined through a few extra reagents created a flower-themed blasts that created new plants at the bottom of those lakes they visited, thus allowing new life to replace the one that would get destroyed.
Overall a very good experience and one she quickly took note on her main journal. The three of them spent the entire day outside of Mondstadt, having fun and even eating in a small camp for lunch and then dinner. The meals were now as perfect as those cooked by Sara in Mondstadt, but they were filling as she wanted.
Nahida had many reasons to be a bit nervous about eating things that weren't native of Sumeru, out of rational fear to find something that could amount to an allergic reaction. While Gods couldn't exactly die by sickness, they could still go through some painful circumstances due to those.
And as the day was turning to an end, they all went back to Mondstadt so Klee could go to sleep to her room, and Nahida was happy to get placed down to her own bed back in John's hut. It was tiny, but it was the kind of homely size that reminded her of her home.
In fact, she would have loved to live like this back in Sumeru. But now... Well, that was a bit of a mess and a half. She liked Mondstadt, she liked Liyue, but she was mixed about her own region. The one realm she was expected to rule over was... Well, it was ruined. People had abused her trust, tried to harness the knowledge of everything and attempted to impose a dictatorship.
One that had supposedly collapsed now that she was no longer contained in that glass bubble.
She had heard a few news about Sumeru, but not enough to truly say if things were actually good or as bad as she was worried about it. Despite that, Nahida had learned to actually 'not think about it'. Not because she felt she didn't have a duty towards those people, but because she knew she had to behave as a righteous god after what happened to her. She needed to make them know that all that insulting, all that misunderstanding and all those mistakes couldn't exactly be fixed with a simple 'We are sorry'.
She was sure her 'mother' would have been less compliant to this mindset, but Nahida agreed with her father in regard to 'give them some tough love'. Plus, she needed to use this free time to organize ways to fix what was broken. She was going to eventually go back, but there was just so much that needed to be patched up.
Which is why the Dendro Archon had found a way to organize her knowledge in the best way possible for someone like her. As John went to sleep and she made sure to leave behind a 'disguised dummy', Nahida took for the rear section of his house and reployed the one thing that had made her life much easier ever since she got her hands on it.
Madame Ping had been a super nice Adeptus that gave her just what she had always dreamed to have. The chance to carry about all books and texts she wanted within a small sacrifice of Space. The Serenitea Pot was already a masterpiece in its basic form, but Nahida had the means to tinker with it. Divine power allowed to shape a far more improved and modernized version of it. There was no limit in size and the presence of fertile ground allowed her to readily have all sorts of plants that she may ever need.
She could study medicine, constructions, and even ship-building in peace.
Yet, today was a completely different reason that she found herself spend some nightly hours inside her large study room. Books about the Fatui she managed to snatch from their low-tier agents the previous day had been kept in a safe spot to be properly looked upon in that moment.
Before John... there was another John.
The mystery was indeed perplexing. Books and books from Liyue and now Mondstadt were quite elusive about the presence of a previous John, but Nahida only saw this as an issue on 'privacy'. If there is something that she has learned about her dad was the lack of interest to stand out to the crowd unless necessary.
It was possible only nicknames and potential apocrypha documents about him still existed, but that those were either destroyed in the case of Liyue, or actually never existed as Venti bore no remembrance of someone like John before now. Still, the Fatui worshipped a 'Beloved Saint'. Someone that had been crystallized in their culture as the basis of many of their traditional concepts but also modern institutions.
An example of that was the so-called 'Orphanage'. The original Knave had built it upon the notion of 'A Father looking upon unfortunate Children'. This idea, albeit somewhat 'odd' without context, made actual sense when put before the fact it was based on Snezhnaya's recollection of John. Some of the things he made there had shaped a culture that had been severely isolationist, turning it into something far more... Well, militaristic.
There was much more to the surface, but nothing that could help her find a deeper look into the Snezhnayan matters. Only time was going to give her more, but for now she focused on her Sumeru Project and-
"Young lady."
Nahida tensed up, eyes wide open as she turned around to see John standing there with a tired look and glancing at her with some disappointment.
"It's bedtime."
"But-"
"If you don't catch sleep, you will only end up with crazy non-smart plans. To bed, now."
Huffing, the girl was unable to stop him from picking her up, carry her out of the Pot and then back to bed. This time, however, Nahida conceded about sneaking out again for the night.
The Dendro Archon was already tired and, to some extent, her dad had done right.
She needed crazy smart plans, so she needed a power nap once or twice in a while.
