AN: Yeah, I'm still alive.

I think I'll post this one, and then one more. After that, I think I'm callin' it quits.

Thanks for reading this far.

CONTEXT: Highschool AU

Umpteenth: a word used to emphasize that something has happened on many other occasions

No: the word that had become Kolette Weathers' mantra.

"But it's so cute!" or some variation of that sentiment would always be her boyfriend's response.

Daily, he would reference the social media trend he wanted them to try. If he was feeling bold, he would even share some reels with her that showed the trend outright. However, Kolette simply ignored those reels, so Joseph often relied on hints and suggestions to wear her down.

Kolette loved and hated his stubborn perseverance. His pouting after every refusal tugged on her heartstrings, hard. But if he thought there was a snowflake's chance in hell that she would ever wear something so embarrassing, he was crazy. She had two styles: sporty and comfy. What the couples in the reels chose to wear gave Kolette secondhand embarrassment.

Kolette crossed her arms. "I said no. Those reels are pure cringe!"

"I'm wearing my shirt!" argued Joseph, striking a pose.

A hint of a smile appeared on Kolette's lips. "Pure. Cringe."

Joseph grinned and raised both eyebrows. "I think I have something that will change your mind," he sang.

Terror darkened Kolette's face. "Do not tell me you bought me one of those shirts. I could never pull off wearing something that... lovey-dovey."

"Are you afraid to stand out?"

His worry touched her heart. His kindness drew her closer to him with every passing day, it seemed. For the first time, Kolette actually considered partaking in the cute, but cringe, couples fad that had enthralled Joseph. Maybe she could suck it up for two minutes so he could snap a few pictures.

"I'm usually happy to be out of the spotlight myself. But when I'm with you..." Joseph searched for the right words. "When I'm standing next to you, I don't mind standing out."

Kolette tipped her head forward, wishing that her long brown bangs would hide her blushing cheeks.

Kolette had folded like a lawn chair. Nervously, she fidgeted with the hem of the t-shirt Joseph had bought her. The word "His" was scrawled across her chest in sparkling gold glitter.

"Looks great on you, Koley." Joseph pushed back a lock of her hair and kissed her cheek. He said, "Thanks for doing this. It means a lot."

Turning her head, Kolette whispered, "No problem, Joey."

Joseph smiled sadly. He knew that was a lie. He had held Kolette in high esteem before, but his opinion of her soared higher now than ever. The reality of her putting his wants above her comfort warmed his heart. In a word, Joseph felt loved.

"Do you mind if I take a picture of us? I haven't changed my phone's home screen in a while."

A gentle hand touched his chest. Kolette leaned her head against his shoulder for a sweeter, more intimate pose.

Joseph's cheeks turned scarlet, and he reflexively slid an arm around her waist. After taking a couple of photos, he handed Kolette his phone so she would see them first. His hand still rested on the small of her back, and Kolette felt loved.

Joseph craned his neck so he could take a look.

"I think your hand covered up the writing on my shirt."

Kolette smirked, bragging, "That's okay." Her bright blue eyes bored into the sparkling green eyes that she adored. "I already know you're mine."

AN: Short but sweet. That's how I like it!

I hope that you, the reader, can infer what Joseph's t-shirt said. If I failed, here is the answer: "Hers". The trend mentioned in the drabble is when two partners wear matching "His" and "Hers" t-shirts. Sorry if I didn't make it obvious.
