Chapter Three
Bakura
Atem sighed as he and Princess Sakura walked side by side through the marketplace. He cursed under his breath so softly, that Sakura couldn't hear him. Why was his father doing this to him? It was clear as day that she did not like or get along with him. His father, the Pharaoh on the other hand, said it was just a phase - that she doesn't hate him. But she sure acts like it. But during their walk together she was quiet and didn't say anything. The Pharaoh had also said: "Use this chance to know one another better. Without arguing." It was either the marketplace or being stuck in a room together alone. Atem muttered something, not noticing violet eyes watching them.
:::::
An Egyptian boy with short messy pale purple hair and violet eyes watched the boy with crimson eyes and blonde bangs, the rest of his hair covered by a brown hood. He was wearing a brown cloak that covered most of his body from view. Next to him was a girl, wearing a white cloak with the hood up as well. He saw short light brown hair and beautiful emerald-green eyes. He noticed that she was wearing white baggy pants and white and gold slip-on shoes. She is beautiful, from what he could tell. She wasn't Egyptian like the people who lived here, he could tell because of her light skin tone. But he wondered why she was around the damn prince of lower Egypt. Who was she? 'Hmm, who could this pretty little thing be?' He smirked, then he turned around and walked away. He was going to find out one way or another.
:::::
Sakura, Princess of Avalon - grumbled very unlady-like as she walked beside Atem. Why her? Why did she have to be engaged to-to a JERK! she huffed. To her, he was just a jerk, an idiot, and attractive…? Sakura stopped and blinked. Did she just think that? She blushed a bright red at the thought of it. She did not just think that! Why would she think of such a thing? She muttered something under her breath so Atem couldn't hear her.
Atem noticed that she wasn't walking anymore beside him and glanced behind him out of the corner of his crimson-colored eyes. He then blinked when he saw her blushing a bright red. 'She's blushing…' he thought to himself as he turned around to look at her, she looked adorable when she blushed… but why was she blushing in the first place? Sakura then looked up and blinked and noticed Atem staring at her. Her blush darkens. "What are you staring at!" she blurted out. He had to admit that she was adorable when she blushed, but of course, he wouldn't admit to her what he thought and that he was staring at her. "I wasn't staring," he said coolly and simply. She glared daggers at him, her cheeks still warm. "Yes, you were!" Oh boy! Here we go again…
"Was not!"
"Were too!"
"Was not!"
"Were too!"
"Were too!"
"Was not!"
"Ha! Sakura glared once more at Atem; he tricked her! The jerk! Atem stuck out his tongue playfully and watched in turn as Sakura's emerald-green eyes flared with anger. "You jerk!" she shouted as she ran after the Prince of Lower Egypt, who in turn only smiled at her as she chased him. Maybe he liked her mad at him every once in a while.
:::::
Sakura grumbled and sighed as she stared up at the night sky through her open window. What was wrong with her? Every time she was with Atem, he always seemed to make her mad. Normally she would never act the way that she was acting, but he was poking fun at her all the time. He was totally different now than when she first met him… he was so- kind to her, a complete gentleman. Was he that way with all the girls that he met? Sakura moved her legs to her chest and bit her lower lip. She hoped not… but why should she care? The prince was nothing but a jerk! But she realized he wasn't always like that; he had a sweet side to him as well. Maybe if she didn't blow up at him all the time, he would be kinder as well. She let out a sigh. 'I need some fresh air.' With that thought in mind - she grabbed her night robe and put it on and slipped on a pair of white shoes and carefully checked to see if anyone was watching her door, when she saw no one, she headed to the royal gardens.
:::::
The princess sighed happily as she stared at the night sky, a dreamy look in her emerald-green eyes. Ever since she was a young child - when her mother was still alive, she would always love to look at the night sky and the stars with her mother. Then a sad look came across her face as she thought about her mother - she had not seen her mother since she died ten years ago… leaving her, her big brother, and her father alone. The most she remembered of her mother was her bright smile and her warm hugs. A part of her wished that she could see her mother once more… but she knew that she was in a better place.
"Well, well… what is a pretty thing like you doing in a place like this? All alone?"
Sakura's eyes snapped open (because she had closed them when she thought of her mother.) She saw an Egyptian man with a giant scar on his face, going from his skull to his cheek. Bronze skin and battered clothing that looked old and ripped. He grinned at her… a wicked grin that she didn't like at all. Who was this man? And how did he get into the Royal Garden? Anything about this man gave her the creeps. "That is not you're concern," Sakura stated as she looked at him with a straight face and glaring eyes. He then grabbed her chin, and she gasped as he pulled her closer to him to his face - and so quickly!
"Of course, it is." He said, his grin becoming even more wicked (If that was possible.)
SLAP
"Unhand me, you slime!" yelled Sakura as she slapped the man across the face, leaving a very bright handprint on his cheek. He let go of her chin when she slapped him, but then he grabbed her wrist instead. "You little..." he began, and he was about to backhand her in the face with his other hand for slapping him in the face, but his hand was stopped by another person - this person took hold of the man's wrist to stop him from backhanding the princess.
"Leave the girl alone." the newcomer's voice was cold, the same kind that would send chills of fear down your spine… the man looked over his shoulder and there stood an Egyptian boy of seventeen. He was taller than Atem, maybe 5'7", 5'8" in height - with short messy pale purple hair and narrow violet eyes, he was wearing a red and white detailed open robe, a sandy kilt that came to his mid-thigh with a sash-wrapped around his hips. Sandy slip-on shoes on his feet. He also whore Egyptian jewelry around his neck and rings on his fingers. Sakura's eyes went wide at the sight of him. 'Wh-who is he?' she wondered as she looked at the older boy. The man on the other hand knew who he was because he growled at him.
"Why should I, Bakura?! She isn't yours!" said the man as he glared at Bakura, The King of Thieves. But if anyone had any brain, no one messed with Bakura and lived to tell the tale… Bakura's eyes narrowed and a vein popped on the side of his head, showing how irritated he was with this poor excuse of a man. "Remove yourself from her before I break your arm off and let you bleed all over the ground with more than just a broken wrist!" threatened Bakura. Broken wrist? When did he? Before she realized it, Bakura with quick movement, snapped the man's wrist. Making the man cry out in pain, so much so that he let go of Sakura and fell onto his back. "ARGH, you bastard!"
"Ah, such language in front of a female. Leave before I give you something more to cry out in agony."
The man could only nod and was somehow able to get up and run off without another notice. Sakura put her hands together and placed her hands on her chest. Who was this boy? Bakura turned around and faced her and let his eyes roam her body. He smirked at her revealing nightgown that she wore. "You shouldn't be walking in a nightgown late at night - you could get in serious trouble…" he said as he licked his lower lip, making her blush. She looked down at herself and her blush deepened. The long white robe that came to her ankles was open and you see her nightgown, which was sleeveless and went to her mid-thing, showing off her long shapely legs. She quickly closed her robe and then glared at him as she turned a bright pink. "Pervert!"
Bakura only smirked. It wasn't his fault that she decided to wear such a thing… he then slowly began to walk towards her, and she swallowed hard and began to back up towards the palace wall in the Royal Gardens. Once her back hit the wall, she tried to find a way out of this situation that she was getting herself into. One that she didn't want any part in. But before she could find a way out, he trapped her with his body - his hand was up against the wall where her head was, his nose and her just barely touching… "Don't I get a thank you?" he asked; his voice low and husky and her cheeks continued to redden. "Wha?" She didn't know what to say. He was so close to her it was embarrassing! She then tried her best to muster up the courage to tell him at least something!
"U-um, thank you very much for saving me," she said softly, trying to get her cheeks to the normal color of her fair light skin. Bakura looked at her again - she is beautiful… any fool could tell that. He had never seen eyes like hers before, an emerald-green… such a beautiful color, he was also used to seeing long-haired girls or women - but her short light brown hair just seemed to fit her, beautiful long strands framing her face and neatly cut bangs, the back of her hair was shorter - going as far as to the nap of her neck. His eyes were then drawn to her pink lips, and he wondered what they would taste like…
He leaned down towards her lips and her eyes widened. He was going to kiss her!? He was so close to her; she didn't know what to do - she wished that Atem was here…
"Sakura!"
Bakura stopped inches from her lips, and he heard another voice. He moved away from her slightly and saw Prince Atem standing not too far from them. Bakura scowled at the prince. The prince didn't look happy to see him either or the fact that he had Sakura up against the wall. "Well, well, if it isn't the prince-" The next thing that Bakura knew, he was forcefully being pushed away from the princess and Atem took her into his arms, her face buried into his bare chest… her cheeks blushing cherry, but she felt safe in his arms. Bakura had stumbled back, away from the princess when he was pushed. Atem narrowed his crimson-colored eyes at Bakura.
"Stay away from her! Leave and do not return!"
Bakura wanted to say something back but decided against it. He looked at the princess once more, but she just stayed in the prince's arms, not looking at him. 'Don't worry my sweet princess, you haven't seen the last of me.' With that thought in mind, he left the garden. Atem looked down at Sakura with a worried look on his face. "Are you alright?" he asked. She nodded her head.
"Yes," she said softly, but she was still blushing. Why wasn't he wearing his usual tunic? Instead, he was wearing a white kilt that came to his mid-thighs and a blue sash wrapped around his hips, white and gold slip-on shoes, and gold upper arm bands around his upper arms. "Th-thank you, Atem." He just smiled down at her and patted her head softly. Why was he being nice all of a sudden? Was it because of what Bakura was going to do - kiss her? But the way that he looked at Bakura - Atem was livid, she had never seen him so angry before… and she wondered why. Did he care about her in some way? Just the thought of it made her blush. But in what way did he view her? Like a friend? A sister or something more? She looked back up to him and noticed that he was blushing, just a little bit.
"You shouldn't wear clothing like that outside…" She looked down and noticed that her robe at come undone once more, not only were her cheeks red, but now so were her ears and neck. She tried to get away so that she could cover herself, but he stopped her. "Here, let me help you." He slowly began to tie up the little ties on her robe so that it stayed closed. Why was he being so helpful?
"Atem-"
"It's late, let me walk you back to your room."
"… Okay…"
He held out his hand and she slipped her hand into his. While he walked her to her room, she couldn't help the rapid beating of her heart against her chest. What was this feeling?
