Normal POV

A couple of days later, Stefan was in the school hallway talking to Elena about how Damon was doing those days and how they were using Caroline as a mediator between them. Also, they talked about Elena not knowing what to do about vampire related things like her birth mother, her ancestor Katherine or Damon. And she clarified that she wanted to have a least one normal day with her boyfriend even though he was a vampire and have fun together.

Meanwhile, Matt and Caroline had gone to the school together and were also walking through the halls while they talked about their plans for the day.

-We could watch a movie at my place- Matt suggested, walking to his class.

-At your house with your mom there?- asked Caroline reluctantly and a bit uncomfortably. She'd had another run-in with her that day when she had gone to pick up Matt and Kelly had ignored her.

-You know, you're not helping the situation. You could at least try to be nice, mom is still a little upset about what happened at the Grill the other day- hinted the younger boy stopping slowly like she did, as he didn't like that his mom and his girlfriend didn't get along.

-I find it hard to be nice to people who hate me. Especially if the other person is no help at all. And the Grill thing she brought it on herself, although I didn't say anything bad to her. Did you ask her what she told me?- she questioned with annoyance, but Matt was looking at something over her shoulder. When she turned around, she saw Stefan kiss Elena goodbye which made her feel a little irritated- How about a movie at my place tonight?- she suggested, looking at her boyfriend to end the subject.

-Whatever you want to do is fine for me, but I'm late and I have to go, okay?- affirmed the human after he stopped looking at his ex and returned his attention to the blonde girl.

-Sure- Caroline agreed and moved to kiss him but the guy instantly left. The girl couldn't help but sigh as she threw her head back a little, and after putting on a slightly fake smile she left for her class feeling that slight irritation again.

Caroline had been thinking about her anger, and let it go as she had an idea to see how things were going between Matt and Elena. Besides, it would be a good excuse to seem interested in knowing the brunette, whom she saw with Stefan and went over to talk to them.

-It wouldn't be anything big, just a dinner at the Grill and then maybe a movie- she told them of her idea smiling and hoping they would accept, it sounded like something very normal.

-You mean like a double date?- the vampire wanted to know, looking at the blonde next to his girlfriend.

-Two couples together on a Friday night. Yeah a double date- she affirmed still smiling.

-Do you think it's a good idea?- Elena asked glancing at her boyfriend doubtful of the plan, wondering if it would be a good idea considering Matt would be there and they would be with another vampire.

-Why not? We never go out together and these days have been difficult for everyone so I thought it'd be nice to have some fun. I don't want everything to be awkward between all of us, you know, since I'm dating your ex and you're dating my brother we could try to get to know each other better- the heretic tried to convince the brunette, although it was true that everything would be awkward at the beginning.

-I don't know- the younger girl hesitated, not very sure about the plan, waiting for her boyfriend to say something.

-I think it's a great idea. Caroline is right, we could get to know each other better- affirmed Stefan, he thought that his sister's idea of trying to get along with his girlfriend was nice.

-You really think so?- inquired Elena staring at him lightly surprised by his answer.

-Yes, a night out with friends sounds fun- he confirmed with a smile while giving the blonde girl a soft look. Then Elena nodded agreeing to the outing as well.

-Great, then I'll see you tonight- the heretic said goodbye as she left for her other class, and internally she hoped that everything was going according to plan.

On the other hand, Damon had returned to the boarding house when he found Anna and Pearl inside, who claimed that she wanted to talk to him after pushing him against a couch.

-We've taken up residence at a farmhouse just outside the town. It'll suffice for now- Pearl began to tell him without taking her eyes off him while she sat back down where she was.

-All 25 vampires?- he asked, imagining them all together in a giant farm.

-Not all of them, some. I imagine that a few have already left town. Others are probably still in the woods or, like us, acclimating- she explained, glancing at Anna.

-How did they get out of the tomb?- inquired the youngest one staring at the woman with curiosity.

-I think that the witch screwed up that part of her hocus pocus- suggested Anna standing next to her mother.

-I understand from Anna that the founding families still have a secret council?- hinted the oldest vampire, looking to the man for confirmation of the news.

-And you're a part of it- affirmed the younger girl staring at Damon, who glanced at them smiling while feigning disbelief for such an accusation on their part- I've been in Mystic Falls since the comet Damon. I'm up to speed- she clarified with a smirk so he wouldn't pretend with them, to which the vampire tried to keep the smile on his face even though they knew about his little plan.

-And so am I. And now that you've infiltrated the council, I'll need to know everything they know. Starting with a list of names of all the council members and their families- Pearl communicated what she wanted from him, causing Damon a slight irritation.

-And everyone you've supplied with vervain- the girl added turning her gaze to the man.

-Yes, that will have to stop immediately- the woman ordered so as not to forget anything.

-What exactly are you trying to achieve?- the youngest one questioned, frowning slightly at her "demands", curious as to why they wanted him to do all that.

-Mystic Falls is our home, Damon. They took that from us. Our land, our home. It's time that we rebuild- she assured staying calm, continuing her seriousness.

-What, are you crazy? It was 1864. Wake up woman. The world has moved on- replied the man, while mocking the woman's desire to create some sort of revolution in town.

-As a reward for your help I'm willing to give you what you want most. Katherine- revealed the oldest one, generating interest in Damon who was thoughtful for a few seconds.

-You wouldn't even know where she was. You've been under the ground for the last century and a half- implied the vampire seriously, trying to think logically despite the offer.

-Katherine and I were best friends long before we came to Mystic Falls, Damon. I know how she thinks, I know her patterns, I know where to find her- admitted the oldest woman confidently.

-I no longer have any desire to see Katherine ever again. And there's no way in hell I'm gonna play the role of your little minion- Damon declared with seriousness and got up to leave, but Pearl appeared in front of him instantly and pushed him back to sit on the couch.

-I'm not asking for your help Damon. Finding Katherine was a mere gesture of kindness. The rest is non-negotiable- warned the oldest woman irritated and pushed Damon's eyes with her fingers making him shout until she pushed him to the floor- I have 400 years on you, little boy. I'll rip you from limb to limb without even blinking and you know it. I'll be in touch- she threatened and they left, since she would see Jenna to buy a Gilbert building that used to be an apothecary in 1864.

Later at the vampires' house, one of them was complaining about the place to a woman while they were both sitting on a couch, in a room with other vampires.

-I didn't stay locked up for 145 years to end up locked up here- he declared angrily.

-Maybe you should quit complaining- hinted Harper, one of the vampires who obeyed Pearl.

-You're going to stop me?- questioned the man getting up and walking towards him.

-Let it be Frederick. You heard what Pearl said- interjected the woman talking to the man.

-I don't care what Pearl said. What you got boy?- he added glaring defiantly at Harper, who stood up and pushed Frederick to the couch, but this one pushed Harper harder against the wall- Try that again- he warned, but then Pearl came and strangled him.

-Back off. Back off! We don't fight each other. Those are the rules- the woman reminded him seriously, then released him and stood in front of Harper, exasperated that they didn't accept the order.

-And I'm tired of your rules. I want to get out of the house. Why can't we go out on the town?- Frederick questioned her after pulling himself together as he looked at her for answers.

-Eventually. But for now we have to keep a low profile- the oldest woman answered.

-No one knows who I am- he remarked exasperated for being locked up in that house.

-The Salvatore siblings do- Pearl clarified as if it were an obvious fact.

-And I wish to hell that I could run into those two boys. They are the reason that we were caught in the first place- the younger one admitted angrily at the thought of those little vampires.

-Don't forget there are three of them, they have a sister- added the woman crossing her arms.

-I think I remember her. I think that I would kill those two and torture their sister in front of them. They deserve to suffer- he decided while he glanced around since he knew that he was right.

At the Grill, Matt and Elena were talking about their lives and telling the siblings how they had met, making the heretic feel a bit uncomfortable with the way they talked and looked at each other. Meanwhile, Stefan glanced at her curiously unnoticed as he saw the faces his sister made at seeing them like that. Aside from that the four noticed Kelly drinking at the bar with Jenna and Damon, much to the vampires' embarrassment. Thanks to their presence they heard another story about the younger ones, and the blonde girl felt a slight melancholy since that's how she used to act with her friends.

-I have to go to the restroom. Are you coming Elena?- said Caroline, looking at the brunette who nodded and they went to the bathroom. Meanwhile, Matt and Stefan were playing and talking about them.

-Elena, what are you doing?- said Caroline later in the bathroom, staring at the younger girl.

-What do you mean?- asked Elena turning around to look at her in confusion.

-This was supposed to show Matt how good you are with Stefan, and that even though you disagree with him dating me you want us to get along. Not to remember every now and then the good times when you two dated. At any moment the tension between you will be uncomfortable- she clarified a little irritated so that she would understand what she was doing.

-What tension do you mean? We were just talking about the past- she excused herself a bit more confused than before.

-You were practically only staring at each other while you were talking, it was weird. Remember that you have a boyfriend, my brother, okay? I don't want him to feel bad because of you- warned the blonde girl and crossed her arms.

-I was just trying to make conversation- the younger one tried to justify herself to calm her down.

-If you can try less- she advised a little harshly and left the bathroom followed by Elena. What they didn't know was that they passed by Frederick who, at seeing Elena, took her arm.

-Katherine?- asked the vampire confused as he stared at her.

-I'm sorry, you have the wrong person- the brunette answered a little uncomfortable getting Caroline's attention, who turned around and when she saw the situation, she approached them quickly.

-Is there any problem?- she questioned seriously getting the attention of the man that let Elena go, the heretic took the chance to move her a little and stand in front of her looking at the man cautiously.

-No, nothing. I just mistook her for someone- Frederick admitted watching the blonde girl, she didn't seem like the girl he remembered having seen a couple of times, she seemed a little different.

-Well, I hope you don't confuse her again. I don't want any trouble- replied the younger girl in a threatening way, staring seriously at both the vampire and his companion, and turning to a surprised Elena, she took her by the arm and led her to where the boys were. Meanwhile, they were being watched by the vampires who, upon seeing Stefan, left the place.

Stefan noticed that Elena looked uncomfortable and his sister seemed to glance at a table in the back. Asking if everything was find his girlfriend showed him a message: "That man over there just called me Katherine. Caroline took me away from him." He supposed that they could be vampires known to the brunette vampire, and at turning to that table he saw that no one was there. Then he got near his sister.

-Could you wait for us a moment? Stef and I will go to the bar- Caroline announced, looking at the others who nodded and the girl took her brother's arm to lead him to the back with her.

-I don't wanna get away from Elena, there are vampires in town- affirmed the older guy as soon as they reached the bar and the blonde girl leaned there for a moment to wait for a waiter.

-You think I don't know that? I spoke to one just now- the younger girl reminded him and continued- And don't worry about your girlfriend, from this place we have an eye on her and Matt. And if something happens, I use magic and that's it- she commented in a low voice, turning slightly to look at the table where they were.

-Well, did you recognize the vampire?- he asked nervously glancing around.

-I don't remember if I ever saw him, I didn't pay attention to almost anyone at that time. If he knew Katherine and he's a vampire, we might have a big problem- she hinted a little tired of the subject, she thought that the trouble of the tomb was over.

-What do we do now?- he wondered, although he hoped that she had a plan.

-First we should take the guys out of here, if there are vampires they are fresh meat- Caroline started to tell him her idea- Then I think that you should ask Elena what she wants to do, she deserves to have a say in this because it also concerns her- admitted the younger one hesitantly because even if she didn't like the girl, she deserved to give her opinion.

-But I don't wanna put her at risk- he denied but seeing his sister's look he sighed- Fine, I'll ask her what she wants. We could take them to the mansion, and if necessary can you compel Matt?- he asked accepting her suggestion, at seeing how she nodded even though she didn't like the idea, they went towards the humans. Stefan went ahead with Elena while the others followed them, the first ones talked about what to do since the vampire wanted to end the evening and Elena wanted to continue with the fun at least that night when the blonde girl and the human boy arrived.

The four of them entered the mansion and Matt was impressed by the inside of the house since he had never been inside, and wondered how Caroline didn't live there considering the size of the house, but she appreciated the privacy that living alone in her house gave her. Then the youngest boy saw a collection of Stefan's miniature cars excitedly and Stefan took them to the garage.

-Prepare yourself, my friend- he said to the boy as soon as they arrived and he pulled out a cloth revealing a car.

-Wait, how do you have this?- asked Matt impressed, as coming closer to see the car.

-It was a family heirloom- he replied throwing a glance at his little sister who smiled from the garage door since he had actually had it for decades.

-Why don't you drive it?- he wanted to know, opening the car door and looking inside.

-Well, it just doesn't work. I mean, I don't really understand it- he explained while he watched what the human boy was doing, and seemed a little embarrassed to give him that excuse.

-Only you keep a car that doesn't work. You consider it an antique for your collection?- the blonde girl tried to mock, giggling a little, making Stefan giggle too.

-They are valuables, and you keep things too. Remember how Lexi went through your stuff and suggested you to sell a couple of them?- the oldest one added making everyone smile a little.

-Sure. We took some things and went to a store to sell them with you, and I stopped her from selling one of my favourite paintings- she reminded him smiling more than before upon remembering her friend.

-Hey Matt, change of subject. Do you want to check it out for me?- he turned curiously to the human who nodded with a slight smile and approached to check it, then he looked at Elena.

-Elena, remember the old Camaro your dad used to have?- he reminded her and the brunette nodded smiling at the memory while she got a little closer to the car- I built and rebuilt that engine about 20 times- he told the siblings who were a little impressed by that fact.

-The sports cars are good cars, but it's a bit hard to make out in them- commented the heretic in a joking tone, making the older vampire smirk a little.

-It wasn't that bad- clarified Matt looking at Elena and the air got uncomfortable, then Caroline left the garage angry and Elena followed her while Matt realized his mistake- I'm sorry man, it wasn't my intention- apologized to Stefan who tried not to give him a bad look.

-Don't worry about it. You and Elena have a history and ignoring it isn't good for anyone- said the older guy trying to relax the situatuon- I just wanna suggest you something, don't say something like that in front of my sister again. I don't want her to feel bad for comments like that- warned him seriously, making Matt nod. Stefan liked the boy for the blonde girl but he didn't want the poor girl to suffer for memories of her boyfriend not being over his ex.

Outside of the Grill, Jenna was on her way out when she came across Frederick the vampire. He asked her if she knew Damon Salvatore and if she knew where he lived, to which she explained that the older one lived in the old boarding house. Then the vampire tried to compel her, but when he got no reaction from her he assumed she had vervain and Jenna went home. Frederick then rejoined his companion and one more vampire.

Outside the Salvatore's garage, Caroline was doing some of her breathing exercises to relax and not burn the plants in front of her when she heard Elena walking towards her, and she was still trying to calm down but her presence was making it a little difficult.

-Caroline listen...- the human tried to calm her down but the heretic turned around.

-Sorry but I don't want to talk, you get it?- she blurted out in a hard way trying to relax.

-Sorry but I think you're being ridiculous- commented Elena crossing her arms.

-And I'm also being dramatic. But what do you want me to do if Matt will always be in love with you? While I'll be his backup, or I'll be the one he seems to have trouble being in public with, but after a while he'll want to go out with me. Am I just an option?- she complained irritated since Elena saying that she was dramatizing didn't help her to calm down at all.

-You're not an option or a backup, but what do you mean by being in public?- the younger girl inquired confused, that didn't sound like something her friend would do.

-Vampire hearing, remember? In case you didn't know, it means I can hear everything- she replied sarcastically, the girl was about to end her patience- Besides that I am. I'm Matt's Elena backup, my brothers often choose girls over me, and I'm sure that I'll be Bonnie's replacement any day now- she continued saying annoyed as she felt belittled, realizing belatedly that she had referred to her magic with her that didn't know anything.

-Don't drag me into your problems with your brothers. And what does this have to do with Bonnie?- said the girl without understanding anything, it didn't make sense to mention her in the conversation.

-Forget it. At least you can be with whoever you want, and that person only wants you. I'd like to have something like that, someone who only wants me- Caroline added, while crossing her arms and looking away. The brunette was about to say something to her when they saw Stefan and Matt arriving in the former's car, the vampire offered his sister to go for a ride with her boyfriend and the blonde girl, after giving him a doubtful look and seeing him nod, got into the car accepting.

-Everything okay with Caroline?- Stefan asked Elena once the car drove away.

-Your sister can be very complicated. I don't know which problem is worse, the vampires or her- the younger one admitted confused while she hugged her boyfriend, who nodded silently.

Matt and Caroline were in the car, he was trying to talk to her while she seemed calm.

-Did I pass the test?- Matt asked suddenly as he stopped making the girl turn to see him a bit confused- This whole double date thing was a test to see how I would behave with Elena- he insinuated turning slightly to see her and noticed that she seemed thoughtful.

-I don't know. You were reminiscing about your years with Elena the whole night, you stared at each other in a weird way when you talked, and you two said things that I didn't know so...- she tried to explain without looking him in the eyes.

-Caroline all that was before, most of those things were before I met you. They can't just disappear- the younger one reminded her, noticing that besides being thoughtful she looked tense.

-I know that, okay? I know the memories stay there- she replied, feeling a little irritated.

-No, you don't, because you let Elena turn you into a crazy person and it's my fault. I made it clear before that Elena still means something to me, but all that talk was just two old friends and some memories. Tonight wasn't about me and Elena, I was there because I wanted to be with you. And I don't know what this means but I do know that you are the only person I want to be with in this car right now- he stated staring at her fixedly in the eyes and added with a smile- I don't know if that makes sense because I'm not really good at expressing myself- he excused himself a little embarrassed.

-No. I think you did very well and it's nice what you said- Caroline assured him with a smile while they giggled and kissed, then they went back to the mansion where they saw Stefan and Elena, the first one received a thumbs up from his sister that everything was fine. However, the four got the unpleasant surprise of seeing Damon kissing Kelly.

-Mom?!- yelled Matt, very puzzled and embarrassed at the sight of them.

-Damon?! Ugh, I'm gonna throw up- Caroline exclaimed looking away making disgusted faces. Mrs. Donovan at noticing them she separated from Damon, took her things and left while Matt glanced at everyone uncomfortably- It's fine, go- she said touching his arm to comfort him.

-I could take you home if you want- offered Elena looking at the heretic that nodded. Matt said goodbye to all them, gave Stefan the keys and left. The girls and Stefan looked at Damon in case he planned to say anything about that night, but he just sipped his drink. After leaving alone the couple to say their goodbyes in peace, Caroline went out and said goodbye to Stefan to then leave as he walked into the house, unaware that Frederick was spying on them.

Stefan was about have a conversation with Damon about that night when Frederick came in through a window and jumped on Stefan stucking him a piece of glass. Damon grabbed the vampire and pulled him away from his brother starting to hit him while the youngest removed the glass, he was about to go help his brother when Frederick's companion came in with other vampire and they lunged at him, they managed to knock him to the floor and were about to try to take the leg of a chair and use it as a stake when the second vampire flew to a wall away from them. Upon looking up they saw Caroline with a furious look on her face.

-I thought I said I didn't want any trouble- she said without looking away from the vampires, the guy she'd pushed tried to approach her quickly but the heretic being faster took his arm and threw him against other wall- Luckily I don't mind fighting dirty- she added smirking and using her vampire speed she approached the boy against the wall. Stefan took advantage of the vampire being distracted to take the wooden leg of the chair and stabbed her in the heart.

While, the girl fought with the vampire until she took advantage and reached into his chest ripping out his heart, which she let fall on the floor. Damon managed to throw Frederick across the room and this one at seeing the other vampires dead and the three siblings he just ran away.

-Damn it. We thought that you had left with Elena- Damon admitted looking at his sister while she grabbed a cloth towel from a chair and wiped the blood from her hand.

-I felt watched outside so a few meters away I told Elena to stop and I came back here- she explained calmly as if nothing had happened- Just when I arrived I saw how that idiot got through the window, it seems that I arrived just in time. The bad thing is that one of my shoes got broken, you are lucky that they're not my favourite ones- she commented after leaving the towel on a table and took off her shoes, looking with a slightly sad face that one of her heels had broken, which made Damon roll his eyes and Stefan looked at her somewhat incredulous.

-Really? We almost got killed and you are worried about shoes? I'll buy you a pair- he exclaimed wearily.

-It doesn't sound bad considering I saved you guys. I'd like black heels- she hinted crossing her arms and the oldest man was about to speak but their brother stepped in between them.

-Later we can talk about your shoes. But back to the topic of importance here, I remember those vampires from 1864. They were in the tomb- Stefan affirmed watching them both.

-Yeah, about that...- Damon started to say a little uneasily, exchanging glances between his little siblings, to explain them everything that had happened in his talk with Pearl.

After having escaped of the Salvatore mansion, Frederick returned to the house in the woods.

-So, where are Bethanee and Jacob?- asked Pearl at seeing him enter, she took a bottle of blood from the fridge while Anna sat nearby.

-They won't be coming back- revealed the youngest one, feeling bad about what had occurred that night.

-What happened? Where are they?- she questioned as she stared at him, having an idea of the act.

-Well, you were right. We shouldn't have left- he accepted, throwing a glance at Anna, with a bit of guilt and regret in his eyes.

-No. Hungry?- the older woman inquired, pouring blood in a glass while taking a wooden spoon. Then she offered the glass to him and stabbed him in the stomach with the spoon. Believing that was punishmemt enough, she set the spoon down on a table and poured more blood.

-Next time you'll listen to me- Pearl warned him without looking at him, while Anna smirked with some mockery and shot glances at the vampire on the floor.

Stefan spoke to Elena on the phone to see if she'd arrived safely and she told him that the blonde girl had just left, but her boyfriend reassured her that Caroline was there with them. The vampire decided that he wouldn't tell her anything about what had happened until the next day to finish her "normal" day and hung up after saying goodbye. Then he walked to the entrance of the house.

-Could you help us out a little bit? We need to burn this- Damon asked Stefan while dragging one of the bodies of the vampires outside, and Caroline appeared carrying papers.

-Yeah. You take the other one out while I get this set up. The good thing of living far away is we can make them a bonfire- she commented pointing to the other body and got out of the house to which Stefan nodded.

Meanwhile, Jeremy was quiet in his bedroom. That night he'd been at home with Anna and with a cut on his hand he'd discovered that she was a vampire. At that moment the girl had visited him so she could question him about why he had done that to her and to warn him not to tell anyone. The younger boy had been suspecting for some time that vampires were in fact real and now he'd proved it, and one of the reasons why he had confronted her was because he wanted her to turn him into a vampire just like her.

And that's all for now! I hope that you liked this chapter. It was a bit hard to change it at first, but I'm kinda comfortable with the results. And as I said before the end of the first season is coming, now things will get a bit more dramatic (it's a spoiler I guess?) and you can leave comments if you want.

Well, as you see Caroline may not like a lot Elena, but she has nice moments with her if she thinks that she needs it, that's who she is no matter the person. I wanted to clarify that Caroline's jealousy may come from seeing Matt still being too friendly with Elena, but the comments about her brothers and her other feelings are deeper than what their argument left see. Soon that topic will be more explored and it'll become clear, but I guess you might have a few ideas. You will have to wait, while I leave the summary of the next part, see you!

Chapter 17 - Let The Right One In:

Stefan suffers the consequences of his actions and he is forced to make a terrible choice, while his siblings along with Elena and Alaric look for some way to help him. In a moment of desperation, Caroline reveals an unexpected secret, and gives warnings to the humans.
