Chapter 3

(Michael knew that he needed to pull it together. Both women were expecting an answer from him. He wasn't quite sure what to say. Jules is his best friend. But, did he love her? He never thought about that. Then again, she had never given him any indication whatsoever that she felt this way)

(Sure, she was her usual self and a bit weird at times. But that's what made her so special. That's what he loved about her. There's that word again 'loved'. In all the years that he has known Jules, she never once said that she had feelings for him. If there was any sign of it, maybe it would have caused him to look at her in a different light)

(Ugh! Why the hell did she have to pick now to tell him her true feelings? It was his wedding day! She had so many fucking years to tell him! Hell, she could have told him in the last three days. But, no, she had to pick today. What was he supposed to say? He loved Jules...as a friend. However, being she never said she felt more, he never had to think about her in a different light...until now. He knew he needed to ask himself if he loved her more than a friend)

(He loved Kimmy. No, he loves Kimmy. She can be a bit eccentric at times, but he liked that about her. There were some things that he didn't care about very much. Her outbursts or when she thought she knew everything. Like right now, she was being like that. While he loved her, it sometimes got annoying)

(Michael clears his throat and shakes his head a bit to get back to the present tense...to right now, in this moment. He walks to both women and knew that it was time to express himself. He looks at both women before starting with his fiancé)

Michael: "I love you." (shakes his head) "I wouldn't have asked you to marry me if I didn't love you or want to spend forever with you." (to Jules) "You're my best friend and have been for a very long time." (looks at Kimmy angrily) "I don't appreciate it AT ALL that you put me on the spot like this. It's like you're making decisions for me and I don't like it." (raises his eyebrows) "Would you like me to make decisions for you?" (shakes his head) "I don't think you would. Right?"

(Kimmy sighs softly and knew she was wrong for doing that)

Kimmy: "I'm sorry."

Michael: (to Jules) "I'm not happy with you, either. Kimmy may not be perfect, but neither are you. I don't appreciate your treatment towards her." (scoffs a bit) "Why did you have to pick now of all times to tell me how you feel, Jules? You have had days, no years, to tell me. Did you think that if you waited until the last minute, it would make a difference? It doesn't work that way."

(Jules places her hands on her hips and briefly scratches her head before facing him)

Jules: "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to put you in a bad spot. It's just..." (sighs deeply) "I knew if I didn't get it out, I never would. I know I picked a bad time to say it."

(Michael thinks for a moment before walking away with his hands on his hips in a huff. He looks up and briefly closes his eyes. He looks at Jules again and shakes his head angrily)

Michael: "Why in the hell didn't you give me an indication that you felt this way, Jules? Huh? Why? I know that you felt you had all the time in the world, but when I told you that I was getting married, that should have been your first clue to speak up."

(Jules sighs in defeat as she moves the strands of hair that were in her face behind her ears)

Jules: "I honestly thought that I had more time. Yes, I've had years to tell you. It's like reality set in when you called me out of the blue that night to tell me you were getting married. I-I realized that I needed to make a decision about whether to tell you how I truly felt or not. I didn't want to ruin your day...not completely. I tried to tell you so many times, but it's like I chickened out each time." (sighs) "It's like it hit me just now. It was now or never. I made a decision in that moment to tell you. I knew that I needed to tell you. I knew that I needed to act fast." (shrugs) "Was I wrong in doing that? Probably."

(Michael shakes his head and raises his arms to his sides in frustration)

Michael: "Jules, how come you couldn't have just been honest?"

(Before Jules has a chance to respond, they are all interrupted by Kimmy's family members coming towards them)

Isabelle (Kimmy's mom): "There you are, dear! Why aren't you in the fitting room getting your wedding dress on? It's bad luck to see the groom before the wedding."

Walter (Kimmy's dad): "Are you ready for the wedding, Kimmy?"

Mandy (Kimmy's cousin): "What's going on here?"

Samantha (Kimmy's cousin): "Did something happen?"

(Kimmy's family talks all at once while Michael, Kimmy, and Jules get frustrated. Kimmy is still annoyed with Jules for her big announcement. Jules doesn't dare say anything else as she can barely hear herself think. Michael can't take it anymore. He tries to get a word in, but it's clearly not working. He knew what he had to do next)

Michael: (yells) "Everybody! Shut up!"

(Everyone stops talking and looks at Michael with surprise)

Michael: (sighs) "There isn't going to be a wedding. At least, not right now. It needs to be postponed."
