She parked her car in the garage and sat back in the driver's seat. She was exhausted, rubbing her tired eyes and wishing it was time to back out and go home. She doubted she had five hours of good sleep last night. She had to be in Quantico tomorrow morning so, the earlier she gets done today the sooner she's back in her bed. She stepped out of her car and walked into the basement of the Hoover Building.

She relieved the night crew and went to her office to put her bag away. She walked in and stopped placing her bag down slowly on her chair. A Krupps Coffee Maker was sitting on top of her mini fridge with a box of flavored pods next to it. The coffee maker had a bow on it and a card next the box of pods. She picked up the card and turned it over. 'I forgot to ask you what your favorite flavor was yesterday. Maybe I'll have opportunity over a cup of coffee.'

She licked her top lip, smiled, and took off her jacket. She plugged in the machine, filled it with water and placed a pod in the machine and pulled his business card out of her top drawer. She dialed his number; he answered on the third ring.

"Mulder" He answered cracking a sunflower seed in his mouth.

"Agent Mulder, it's Dr. Scully."

He sat up almost falling out of his chair. "Hey Doc, what can I do you for you?" He said wondering if the huge smile on his face could be heard over the phone.

"Thank you for the coffee maker and the pods. You didn't have to do that but, I appreciate it."

"Have you used it yet?" he chuckled, wondering how soon in the morning she has coffee.

"I am brewing a cup as we speak."

"What flavor." What flavor indeed he thought, what choice will this beautiful woman make first.

"I was curious about the Chocolate Raspberry, and it smells wonderful. It's early and I'm already beat so the caffeine is welcomed. My day is going to be busy but, I have time to enjoy a cup with a friend if you'd care to join me."

"Say no more pop the surprise flavored pod in, and I will be right there." He grabbed his jacket and left the office almost running into Agent Doggett.

"Mulder, where ya goin' we have a meeting with Skinner in an hour." Doggett asked him as he hurried down the hallway.

"I'll be there, just bring the Carolwood file and expense reports." He said as he disappeared around the corner.

He walked into the morgue and saw her standing in the exam room. He straightened his jacket brushed off his pants and tried not to look as ecstatic as he felt.

"Good morning," he said as he walked in. She was wearing bright blue scrubs and was holding a University of Maryland mug steam rolling off the liquid inside. She smiled at him and pointed to an FBI mug on the counter next to her. "One cup of Cinnamon Roll coffee freshly brewed. Thank you again for such a welcomed gift."

"I noticed you didn't have one and making a full pot, letting it sit in the kitchen turning into turpentine by the end of the day isn't coffee." He stood with his back against the counter while she readied a tray of instruments.

She then walked back to the counter and stood next to him. "So, you escaped yesterday without giving me your strange first name. It seems weird to continue calling you Agent Mulder." She looked at him over her mug as she took a sip.

"Fox. Fox is my first name but please just call me Mulder, no one calls me Fox except my mom and before you ask, it was my mother's maiden's name." He waited for a response from her, but she just watched him.

The color of those scrubs accented her eyes. He watched her holding her coffee mug noticing she had fine features, petite but strong looking hands and immaculate nails. They spoke for a few more minutes about what their day looked like.

"You in tomorrow?"

"I'm at Quantico tomorrow so hopefully in my apartment by 1700 today. I need some down time. You know a warm bath, a book, maybe a glass of wine." She looked down, smiled, and whispered. "I suppose that was too much information."

"It's not too much information, and I promise to keep your secret safe. We all need our reset button pushed every now and then, I appreciate you sharing that with me. I hate to drink and run but I need to get going. A meeting with the AD waits for no one and Doggett will get antsy if I'm not 5 minutes early."

"Well, anyway, I like your first name. It's unique, individual, and it suits you.

"Do I look like a Fox?"

"Not the wild fox I'm familiar with but, um I like your name you seem to be a unique individual who cares about his work." She said that once again noticing his suit today was standard black, but the material was expensive. "I like your tie a lot better today."

"Yeah, why?"

"It's colorful. Ties always look better when they're colorful, it adds a touch to the suit, gives it flare and style. Ties should make a statement. You said your partner's name was Doggett, John Doggett?"

"Yes, he was assigned to the unit a few months back. You know him?" He knew it was wrong, but he felt a tiny jab of jealousy, how did she know John.

"I remember him as a student in the academy about a year ago. I think he's from NYPD, a retired detective or something he seems to be a very perceptive and smart guy."

She walked to one of the compartments and opened it pulling out the first body of the day.

"This one is a little ripe; you may want to leave before the smell permeates that nice suit." She said as she placed a mask on her face.

"And I'm gone. Thanks for the coffee, Doc." The doors swung shut as he walked out.

She wishes the dead could smell like that ravishing cologne he wears, lord it smelled good. She finished at 1600 and without further ado she changed her clothes, sprayed her shoes, and walked out leaving the night crew to hold the fort. She arrived home and eagerly prepared a very warm bath, poured a glass of wine, and slipped in. Heaven, she thought, this is heaven. Since her college days soaking baths have been a luxury. She shut out the world and her studies to just soak setting herself free, flushing all the burdens and the need to dos out of her mind letting it go quiet, her type of meditation.

She was thankful to be in bed with the light off by 2100 early by most standards but she was exhausted and had to be up early. The drive to the academy was an hour, if there were no traffic issues so, she'd have to be up with the sun.

She stepped into her office for lunch and noticed she had a message. Replaying it she heard a familiar voice. "Hey Doctor Scully, this is Mulder, ah, Fox Mulder or as the case may be Mulder, Mulder since I usually just go by Mulder. I'm rambling. I was wondering if you were free for coffee or dinner tonight? I have a case out of town, and I have a red eye out of Dulles at 2300 so, I'll probably sleep on the plane. If not, I'll join you for a cup of coffee some morning after I get back if that's okay. Oh, ah and I'm out of the office this afternoon so this phone is my cell. Hope your day goes well and your bath last night relaxing."

She couldn't help but smile at his nervous blathering, it was absolutely endearing. She noticed how he gave no salutation, no goodbye or see ya later just a private little comment between them and the call ended. Yeah, she wanted to spend more time with this man.

She dialed his cell phone not really knowing what to say to him, but she'd figure it out.

"Mulder." The deep, soothing voice answered.

"Mulder, Mulder or just Mulder?" She said glad he couldn't see her smiling.

"Doctor Scully, what a surprise. How is your day going?" He was nervous, would she say yes to his request to see him tonight even if for a cup of coffee or would he have to wait until he returned to see her again.

"My day is going well. A little bird tells me you are going out of town for a while, and I'd like to join you for dinner before you leave if that's possible." She blurted that out thinking it sounded pretty good not desperate anyway she certainly didn't want to sound like that because as much as she wanted to spend time with him, she was not desperate just intrigued.

"Well, tell that little birdie thank you for putting the word out. Ah, yeah dinner would be great, do you have a preference to the type of food?"

"No, I am sure it will be easier for you if it's close to Dulles."

"Are you adventurous about food Doctor?"

"About food, definitely." She chuckled quietly at her answer to him.

"Oh, Doctor Scully we'll talk about that later. In the meantime there's a great little Afghan restaurant across from Dulles, Kabobi by The Helmand it's small but the food is second to none. You think you can be there around 1830? That will give us time to eat and then I can get checked in before my flight."

"I will meet you there, 1830."

"Great, see you then."

She was a little early so she waited in her car making notes on a few files she had taken so she could get caught up. The dinner crowd was filing out when she heard a knock on her window. She jumped looking over to see Mulder standing by her window smiling. Putting aside her files, and taking off her glasses, she opened her car door and stepped out. The cold wind made her button up her jacket and pull up the collar.

"C'mon let's get you inside before you catch something." He said to her as the condensation from his breath disappeared into the air.

She felt slight pressure from his hand on the small of her back, it felt good there. Just enough to know he was next to her. He opened the door for her letting her walk in first. He stood behind her sliding out the chair and sliding in as she sat down he sat across from her.

"Just so you know I am aware of the fact you can open doors and sit in chairs without my help. I was raised to be polite and considerate so, don't take offense to my chivalry."

"It was thoughtful thank you."

They talked, ate, laughed and talked some more, each not wanting dinner to end but the bewitching hour came around and they stood to leave. As they walked to the door, he was again behind her with his hand on the small of her back. When they approached the door, he stayed behind her as she pushed open and they walked out.

"See I believe in equality." He said in earnest but with a playful smile.

"I appreciate that. Growing up with two brothers you learn to do for yourself. They didn't see us as sisters but as siblings and it was everyone for themselves. I think they were just lazy but hey, we all survived."

They walked to her car. He wanted to kiss her, but he wasn't sure she'd go for that, they had only met 48 hours ago, probably not a good idea. Instead, he held out his ungloved hand to her to see if she would take it. She took off her glove and placed her hand in his, both received a static shock and jumped slightly at it.

"Wow, did you feel that?" She said, still feeling the effects of the sharp jolt she received.

"Yeah, that was weird right?" He still felt it as well.

"Must have come from me taking my glove off, sorry."

"Eh yea, must have been."

She smiled and looked down. There it was the smile that devastated him. He squeezed her hand slightly and she looked up, catching his green eyes. They stood there staring at each other. Her shiver interrupted his thoughts.

"Where are my manners I am so sorry, you're cold. Get into your car and go take a warm bath. If it's ok, I'll call you when I get back." He said his voice thick with the cold or just outright desire.

Her face was feeling a little frozen from the wind and she tried to smile and nodded her head. "I'd like that, the phone call I mean." She squeezed his hand and quickly stood on her toes and kissed his right cheek. Turning without looking at him she unlocked her car and got in. She smiled at him as she started it up. He was smiling back and mouthed the words 'I'm never washing this cheek again' as he pointed his gloved hand at it.

As she left, he walked to his car watching her as she drove away. Where did that electrical shock come from. He doubted it came from her just because she took off her glove. He decided it came from the universe, a sign, magnets colliding, a simple matter of unavoidable attraction. The spark felt just between the two of them.
