Chapter 20
"That is the last of it." Sam declared.
"You say that like we had much stuff to begin with. Each of us only took two trips."
Sam bulked at Oakleigh, "Two trips to and from a jet and through a compound."
"Whatever." She mocked. "Just be happy you'll be rid of us in less than an hour."
"I've grown quite fond of you actually."
Oakleigh hummed, "You too Sam."
They pulled each other in for a hug. This would not be their last time seeing each other, but it would be their last interaction for a while.
"You ready to go?" Bucky came upon them.
Oakleigh pulled away nodding, "Been ready for decades."
Steve and Clint were going to take them to Wakanda. Once everything was unpacked from the jet the married couple would be on their own, and they could not wait.
"Let's get strapped in. Bye Sam."
Sam nodded, he and Bucky's relationship was nothing conventional, but Sam valued it nonetheless.
"Wheels up kiddos." Clint started the engines.
Oakleigh scoffed, "You realize all three of us are old enough to be your great grandparents."
"You don't look a day over twenty-five."
"Right answer." Oakleigh smiled, she was going to miss Clint.
There was so much excitement but the sense of loss that came from moving on without your family. Oakleigh was so happy to find the peace she had always wanted and to do it with Bucky. Leaving Steve, Sam and everyone else behind was bittersweet. They would visit but she knew over time those would become less and less as everyone got sucked back into their own lives.
Her lower stomach fluttered as she looked over at Bucky. He and Steve were chatting to fill the time. She worried for Bucky, if without Steve he may feel lost. They both had talked long and hard about this choice, they both wanted this wholeheartedly.
So when they handed they move into Bucky's old home, both deciding they did not want to live in the centre of the city. The place was beautiful and had been kept up and expanded upon in preparation for their arrival.
"I can't wait to wake up here, with you, every morning," Bucky muttered into her ear, arms wrapped securely around her.
"Me either." Oakleigh smiled, kissing his forearm. "Do you think we could get a dog?"
Bucky laughed, "You want a dog now?"
"I always wanted one, I just knew Tony would never allow it. We could get a collie, something that will herd the farm animals."
"We will look into getting a dog."
"We could call him, Sam."
"Absolutely not." Bucky kissed the back of her head and then pulled away.
Oakleigh turned on the spot. "Sammy? Or Sam Sam?" Steve walked by. "Or Steve?"
"Dogs should not have people's names," Bucky told her.
Steve chuckled, "I always liked the name Sam for a dog."
"Exactly, are you really going to disagree with Captain America or your wife?" Bucky shook his head in disapproval.
"I'm happy Steve isn't really to retire yet, the last thing I need is the two of you ganging up on me."
Oakleigh dropped her gaze and fluttered her lashes at him, "I think you like it when we gang up on you."
"I'm going to get the rest of our stuff off the jet, start organizing or we're going to be at this all night."
Biting her lip, Oakleigh gave Bucky a suggestive look before following after Steve.
.
Once Clint and Steve lifted off they were truly alone, for the first time since knowing each other. They were always watched or around their friends, the only time they had truly been alone was during their honeymoon, and they both remembered how freeing that had been for them.
They spend their night unpacking everything and putting it away. When they woke in the morning they both wanted to start day one fresh.
Instead of getting up and training or going to eat breakfast at the common table, they lay in bed and lavished on each other's bodies. Taking advantage that no one was around for miles to hear them.
Everything was on their own time, in their own way, completely free. Around mid-afternoon, the king and his sister visited them, bringing greetings and a care package. They stayed for an hour before making their leave.
Bucky hulled Oakleigh up into his arms, laughing as she squirmed and giggled as he took her back to bed.
"You are insatiable." She blushed spreading her legs for him.
"Maybe if my wife wasn't so mouth-watering I'd be able to clear her from my mind for more than a minute."
"Why would she want that?" She smirked.
"So we could actually get work done." He licked and kissed up her neck. "I have to make sure the gates are still in good condition before we can put the goats and chickens in there."
"Oh." Oakleigh closed her legs, sliding her hand slowly down her body, "Well, you are more than welcome to tend to your chickens."
Bucky grabbed her wandering hand and kissed it before sitting it and it's counterpart to their bed.
"Not a chance." He nudged her knees until she parted them for him once again.
He told her slow and passionately in their new home, Rediscovering every inch of her body. Only when she was withering beneath him did Bucky slide into her.
Oakleigh panted grabbing onto him, pulling his chest to hers. "You're too good at that."
"I know you, O. After all this time, I know every inch of you."
Whining Oakleigh rolled her hips up into his. Bucky groaned encouraging her movements with his lips on hers, he loved when she used him to chase her pleasure. Her confidence had grown so much since they had gotten together in the mid-1900s, they both had when it came to one another.
Having her here with him, in the safety of his arms, Bucky has never felt so calm and so freeing.
"James?" She whispered to him, having noticed his far-off gaze.
Bucky leaned down and kissed her, grabbing her his and flipping her so she rested atop him. Oakleigh smiled flexing her hips as she bounced up and down on him. He felt the tell-tale sign of her release she grasped for his hands, her hips dropping harshly against his. Her control snapped as she spasmed on his cock.
Wasting no time, Bucky held her hips up and fucked into her hard, feeling her tighten and squirm as he forced her to come again. Her screams were heavenly and her warm pussy made a mess of his dick and their thighs. Oakleigh collapsed forward onto him as he came inside her, groaning and twitching on his chest.
Their sweat dried on their bodies as they lay in silence. Bucky frowned as he felt her breath change. She was thinking about something, something she was nervous to bring up.
As patiently as he could, Bucky ran his hands up and down her waist. His fingers traced the goosebumps, waiting.
Bucky clenched his jaw to stop himself from groaning when this wife sat up, with him still inside her. His softening dick was sensitive and uncomfortable when she clenched.
"I went to see Bruce before we loaded up. I asked him to run a few tests on me last week, nothing major." She tried to reassure him.
Sliding his enhanced arm around her waist, Bucky sat up against the headboard pulling Oakleigh off him with a hiss.
"With all the cryo and the age we technically are, I wanted to see what the chances would be of us being able to have kids." Oakleigh blabbered on nervously. "Not that we need to have them, I know it had been something I didn't want. Now that things are how they are, I felt like I needed to know if it was an option. If we wanted to, we could."
"What did Bruce say?"
Kids had been something Bucky always had wanted, until Hydra. After the scramble, they did to his brain and the danger they posed out in the world, he had not thought about it since. Not only because of those things, but because he figured he could not have kids. Not after so much time and the chemicals pumped into his body. But now, things were different, weren't they? Maybe after a few years if peace, who was to say if they could or could not have a traditional "apple pie" American life?
"He says if we ever wanted them, there would be nothing to hinder us from reproducing."
Bucky took her hands, "I didn't think that would be possible for me."
"I guess they didn't care about your sperm as much as they cared about women's uteruses." Oakleigh cringed at her bad joke.
"Is it something you want, to have kids?"
"I never did, not until recently. I've been thinking about it. With you, I would want to have kids if it were with you."
"I always wanted kids, until Hydra and since I've never thought once about having them. I wouldn't want to jump into having kids, not so soon after getting here, but in a couple years, we could revisit this conversation again, once we've had more time together."
"I would like that."
Bucky nodded, kissing her cheek and pulling her in to snuggle against his chest.
.
Steve came to join them only two years later. He unlike them, lived in the city. He liked the noise of people, it reminded him of home in New York. After losing Natasha Steve felt a hole in his chest he had not felt since Bucky fell before his eyes into the snowy mountains. He did not want to fight anymore, long since tired and ready to just be.
They ate dinners a couple of times a week and when Bucky and Oakleigh did decide to try for a baby, they told Steve over Christmas dinner. The blonde was almost as excited as the two of them were. Steve always dreamed of having a big family, like the one Bucky had growing up. The fact that it would be his two best friends' kid, was joyful enough to break him out of his funk.
No one else came to join them in Wakanda, but as Oakleigh pushed little Natalie Arora Barnes into the world, their lives seemed to shift into sharp focus. She was made from their peace and love and would experience nothing but that in her life.
None of the adults could contemplate how something so pure and innocent could come out of them, and the lives they had endured. But here she was, proof that all the pain and bullshit meant something in the end. It meant growth and resilience and that maybe they weren't perfect, but they would be as close as they could be to it for her.
She healed them.
With every smile,
Every laugh,
Every new parent fumble,
They found the peace that had been deprived of in each other, in their home with their family.
