Chapter 2: Enter The Mysterious Riagon! Michael Discovers A New Pokémon!
Michael stared at the unknown Pokémon, calling herself Riagon, in front of him.
Michael - "Riagon? That's your name?"
Riagon - "Yep. Don't wear it out."
Michael chuckled a bit at Riagon's comeback.
Michael - "I'm guessing your fur color determines your gender, right?"
Riagon - "Mhmm. Along with the fact that females have an a in their name, while males have an o."
Michael - "I told Professor Rowan that Riolu and Lucario should've been named the same way depending on their gender."
Professor Oak - "Excuse me Riagon."
Riagon - "Let me guess. You want to ask me questions and do some research on me. Right?"
Professor Oak shook his head.
Riagon - "Then why haven't you started yet?"
Professor Oak - "I was more worried about your health than my research. Along with the fact that Michael should have a say on if I can research you or not since he's the one that saved you."
Michael - "Are you sure about letting me make such a big decision Professor Oak?"
Professor Oak - "Yes Michael. I have complete faith in your choice."
Michael thought for a few seconds. He then crouched a bit in front of Riagon.
Michael - "Let's make a deal Riagon. If you let me catch you, then Professor Oak will be allowed to research you. Deal?"
Riagon - "Deal."
Michael took out an empty Poké Ball and placed it in front of Riagon, who tapped the button. The Poké Ball shook three times before clicking. Michael then picked it up.
Michael - "Alright! My first ever capture! I just caught Riagon! Come on out girl!"
Michael held out the Poké Ball, where it opened up and Riagon appeared on the table, back to full strength.
Michael - "Nice to see you're back to full health."
Riagon - "Thanks. It also feels great to be able to talk without using my aura so much too."
Michael - "Thank my mom and younger twin for the device in your left ear. It's the whole reason you can talk like a human at all."
Riagon - "Then I'm entirely grateful to the both of them then."
Professor Oak - "Congrats on your first ever capture Michael."
Michael - "Thanks Professor."
Professor Oak - "As for you Riagon. I won't start my research on you tonight. But I will in the morning if you and Michael stop by here early enough. I need to get the rest of the Professors in on this amazing discovery. Michael. Would you be ok if your mom and sister Akira were to join us on this as well."
Michael - "Not at all. Mom always likes learning about new Pokémon. And Akira wants to learn to become a Pokémon Professor too."
Professor Oak - "That's good to hear. Anyway, I'll get everything ready and see you both tomorrow then."
Michael - "Ok professor. See you tomorrow then. Come along Riagon."
Riagon - "Coming."
Riagon hopped off the table and onto Michael's left shoulder. The 2 of them, along with his uncle Red, Rarity, Ruby, and Weiss returned to the Ketchum residence.
Red - "Delia. Ash. I'm home. And I brought company."
Delia, Red's wife, appeared from within the kitchen.
Delia - "Welcome home dear. And hello Michael. So good to see my dear nephew and his friends again."
? - "Dad!"
Red - "Hey son."
A young man with raven black hair ran down the stairs to greet his dad. This was Ash Ketchum, Red and Delia's son.
Michael - "Hey Ash."
Ash - "Michael! Long time no see!"
Michael - "Same to you cousin."
Delia - "Now Ash. Let your cousin and his friends come in."
Ash - "Right. Sorry."
Ruby - "Don't worry about it Ash. It's nice to see you 3 again."
Delia - "Same to you, Rarity, and Weiss Ruby. By the way Michael. Which Pokémon is that on your shoulder?"
Michael - "It's a long story. The entire last week as been."
Red - "How so?"
Weiss - "Well..."
Michael and the girls quickly explained to his aunt and uncle what had happened to him over the last week. the both of them were completely shocked, to say the least.
Red - "You are very lucky to be alive right now Michael."
Michael - "Tell me about it."
Delia - "And it's nice to meet you as well Riagon."
Riagon - "Likewise Delia."
Ash - "So what will your PokéDex say about her Michael?"
Michael - "Don't know yet to be honest. But the good thing is that my PokéDex will be the only one with any data on her at all. Everyone else's will most likely just say species unknown."
Red - "That's good at least. Anyway, why don't you four head to bed. It's late and you all need your sleep."
Michael - "Good idea uncle Red. Come on girls. Let hit the sack."
Ruby/Weiss/Rarity - "Agreed."
Michael and the girls quickly entered the guest rooms. They then quickly got dressed for bed and fell asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillows. The next morning, they woke up and joined the Ketchum's for breakfast.
Michael - "Thanks for letting the 4 of us stay here for a few days Aunt Delia."
Delia - "Anything for my nephew and his friends."
Suddenly the doorbell rang.
Red - "I'll get that."
Red walked over to the front door and opened it, revealing Professor Oak carrying a package.
Red - "Oh hello Professor. What's in the package you have there?"
Professor Oak - "I don't know. And it's actually for Michael if he's here."
Michael - "For me professor?"
Professor Oak - "Yes. It's from your sister Akira."
Michael took the box from Professor Oak and placed it on the living room table. Delia handed him a box cutter and he carefully opened the package.
Michael - "Sweet!"
Ruby - "What is it, Michael?"
Michael pulled 3 items out of the box and placed them on the table. He also pulled out a letter and read it.
-Dear Michael,-
-I want to apologize for not giving you these items on your birthday. I was so worried about your health that they completely slipped my mind. Here's hoping you get and enjoy these late gifts.-
-With Love, Your Twin Akira-
Weiss - "Aww. That was sweet of her."
He then picked one of the items, which was a small cylinder.
Michael - "This is the Portable Storage Device. While normally I can only send Pokémon back and forth to any of the professors, or even home if I wanted to, though the devices in the Pokémon Centers, this device lets me do that from wherever I want to in the entire world."
Professor Oak - "I remember Professor Magnolia stating that her granddaughter Sonia had started creating that."
Michael - "She did actually. Akira just had a lot of free time and decided to finish the project for Sonia."
He placed the Portable Storage Device back on the table, then brought up the cube.
Michael - "This is called the Link Box. Professor Oak. You and the rest of the professors are familiar with Pokémon that can evolve by trade, right?"
Professor Oak - "Yes. But 2 people are needed for the trade to happen though."
Michael - "True. That's where the Link Box comes in."
Michael then pressed a button on the Link Box, causing a tube to come out of 2 sides.
Michael - "With the Link Box, you just place your Pokémon on one end, then they go through the Link Box, and if they evolve by trading, that Pokémon will come out of the Link Box evolved already. This means that you can get a new Pokémon WITHOUT losing them at all."
Red - "That's amazing! And Akira made this herself?"
Michael - "Yep. She's a genius when she wants to be."
He put the Link Box and picked up the third item.
Michael - "This is the Battle Disk. Akira also made this herself."
Ruby - "Battle Disk?"
Michael - "Yes. According to Akira, this is gonna be a new kind of battle system that the Kanto Gym Leaders and I are gonna help her test out. If it's a success, then every Trainer across the world is gonna be able to use it. Even during the League itself."
Rarity - "That does sound amazing to hear."
Michael put the Battle Disk down and picked up the deck of cards.
Michael - "This is a Battle Deck. There are exactly 40 cards in it. All Trainers must have a 40-card deck to be able to use it during a battle."
Ash - "What if you're just training your Pokémon?"
Michael - "Then you can use your deck however you like. Practice with it and see what works with your battle style. Akira gave me the Starter Deck, along with a few booster packs, and I can make my deck however I want to."
Weiss - "Then the Gym Leaders should have their own kind of deck too."
Ruby - "Same goes for us if these trial battles are a success."
Rarity - "That's true."
Michael - "As we travel around the region, I'll make changes to the deck depending on who the Gym Leader is."
Red - "Anyway. So what are you girls gonna do today?"
Ruby - "The 3 of us are gonna take a stroll around Pallet Town. See what the town is like during the day."
Michael - "And Raigon and I were just about to make our way over to Professor Oak's lab to begin the research on her species. Shall we get moving on that Professor Oak?"
Professor Oak - "Let's Michael."
Michael - "Lead the way then. See you guys later."
Everyone - "Bye Michael, Raigon."
Michael placed his gifts into his backpack, then put it on and followed Professor Oak to his lab, while Riagon rode on his shoulder. After a few minutes of walking, they reached the lab and went inside. Michael then followed Professor Oak into a large room, where the rest of the professors, alongside his mom and sister Akira, were all together on the screen that was on one wall. Riagon jumped off of Michael's shoulder and onto the table in the middle of the room. Michael then walked over to talk to his mom and sister.
Michael - "Hey mom, Akira."
Tracie - "Hi sweetie. How's your journey going so far?"
Michael - "Pretty good so far. Rarity, Ruby, and Weiss have joined me, making us a traveling group of 4 so far. And I'm sure Professor Oak explained to you both about Riagon here."
Akira - "He has. To think that my big bro discovered a new species of Pokémon! Did you get my package by the way?'
Michael - "I did."
Michael showed off the 3 items Akira sent him in the package. He then returned the Transfer Device and Link Box to his backpack, followed my fastening the battle disk to his left wrist and placing his custom-made deck into the disk's deck holder, along with the deck box on his belt next to his Poké Balls.
Akira - "I also made an instruction manual for you to read so you can understand how to use it."
Michael - "I know. Read the manual twice over on the way over here."
Tracie - "You always were a quick reader. Explain to us the rules then."
Michael - "Gladly. First the deck is automatically shuffled before the battle starts. Then both trainers draw five cards for their starting hand. The hand must have between 3-5 cards at the start of every turn. Every card that is used gets sent to the discard pile. Should the deck run out of cards, then the entire discard pile shall be placed into the deck holder and shuffled. All continuous cards last until another one is played."
Akira - "That correct big bro."
Professor Magnolia - "Michael. I want to apologize for not showing up for your birthday."
Michael - "It's ok professor Magnolia. You were just busy with something. Whenever we are able to meet up, I'll get the Galar Starters from you then."
Professor Magnolia - "Can you also look out for those 4 as well?"
Michael - "They got out?"
Professor Magnolia - "Yes. They knew the day of you becoming a Trainer was close, so they got away from the lab."
Michael - "Don't worry Professor Magnolia. I'll keep my eyes open for any sign of them."
Professor Magnolia - "Thank you Michael."
Professor Juniper - "What are you 2 talking about?"
Michael - "A few Pokémon I made friends with when I was Professor Magnolia's second assistant last year. They are Nickit, Wooloo, Rookidee, and Yamper."
Professor Juniper - "Oh ok then."
Michael - "How's the research coming along Professor Oak?"
Professor Oak - "Just fine Michael. But there's not much to go off of here. Riagon is just a dragonified female Riolu. So, her PokéDex entry, which will be for your PokéDex only, will have Riagon numbered 899, while her evolved form with be number 900. These Dex numbers for them are temporary."
Michael - "That's fine then."
After a few more seconds, Professor Oak's research was done.
Professor Oak - "And that's all we can research on Riagon for now. The rest is entirely up to you and her Michael."
Michael - "Of course professor Oak. Also. Think you can register me for the Indigo League. I meant to ask you yesterday, but I got distracted worrying about Riagon's health."
Professor Oak - "Right away. Just hand me your PokéDex."
Michael handed over his PokéDex to Professor Oak, who walked over to a machine and inserted the PokéDex into it. After a few seconds, he pulled out the PokéDex and handed it back to Michael.
Professor Oak - "Here you go Michael. All registered for the Indigo League."
Michael - "Thanks professor. Is there anything else you need from me or Riagon?"
Professor Oak - "Nothing at all. You 2 go ahead and enjoy the sights of the town. By the way, how far along are you on your PokéDex so far?"
Michael - "If you want to include Riagon, I'm at 22 caught and 28 seen so far. I'll be sure to update you all on its progress when I reach Pewter City."
Professor Oak - "That's good to hear then Michael. We'll see you then."
Michael - "Bye everyone. Come along Riagon."
Riagon - "Coming!"
Michael and Riagon shortly left the lab, then they walked about the town, taking in the sights of it. They then caught up with Rarity, Ruby, and Weiss. Michael quickly explained Riagon's situation to them.
Ruby - "Congrats on becoming an official Pokémon Riagon."
Riagon - "Thanks."
Weiss - "So what do we do now?"
Rarity - "We enjoy the rest of the day here for one. Then we head for Pewter City so Michael can earn his first ever Gym Badge."
Ruby - "You got registered?"
Michael - "Mhmm. Arceus this journey is gonna be a lot of fun with you girls alongside me for it."
Michael and the girls returned to the Ketchum residence for lunch, with Michael explaining Riagon's situation to his aunt and uncle. Both adults admitted to being fully supportive of Riagon's situation. Then the four went about helping with the daily chores around the house. Soon dinner arrived.
Red - "So you 4 are leaving for Pewter City in the morning?"
Michael - "Yes. We have to start our journey together sometime soon."
Delia - "That's fair then. All you 4 need to do is go out and show the world how strong you all. You especially Michael."
Ruby - "Don't worry Delia. Michael's gonna take down anyone that goes against him and his team."
Rarity - "Don't you think you're giving Michael a bit too much credit Ruby?"
Weiss - "She's just being supportive of him Rarity. We all are."
Rarity - "Fair point there. Anyway, let's get to bed. We need our rest for the morning."
Michael - "Agreed. Goodnight Aunt Delia, Uncle Red."
Delia/Red - "Goodnight."
Michael and the girls fell asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillows. After a good night's rest, they had breakfast one last time in the Ketchum household. Then they made their way towards Pewter City. Red, Delia, and Ash saw them off.
Red - "Have a safe journey you 4."
Ruby - "We will."
Ash - "Michael. You better show the league whose boss."
Michael - "Don't worry Ash. I have every intention to do just that."
Delia - "Be sure to keep us updated on your journey Michael. And when you do get all eight badges, the 3 of us will join Professor Oak and cheer for you at the Indigo Plateau."
Michael - "Thank you. That means a lot."
Michael hugged his aunt and uncle one last time.
Michael - "Come on girls. Let's get this show on the road."
Weiss/Ruby/Rarity - "Right!"
Michael and the girls ran out of Pallet Town, ready to prove to all of Kanto that they were here.
