"This is speaking regardless of pokespeech."
Standing at the doorway of the kitchen/dining room Andrew gawked at the Pokémon who had just spoken to him. He could only stand and stare unbelieving in what he had witnessed. Meanwhile the Fennekin who caused this state only looked back at him with a smug look on her furry face. She typed on her little device once more while never breaking eye contact.
"You look surprised Andrew. I wish I had a camera so I could capture this moment. Oh wait, I do."
She pushed a button, and a small flash of light came from her device which broke Andrew out of his stupor. He could hear the printer in his room start up and print out something.
"There, now we can have this wonderful moment of you gazing at my accomplishment in awe framed and put on the wall." She typed.
Andrew slowly stuttered out a response.
"Y-you spoke! Wha-how-when? I-I know! Th-this is just a prank, right?"
He began looking around the room, under the table, and behind the counter of the kitchen.
"Cooper! I know you must be here somewhere. You trained this brat to smack the keys while you are really controlling the machine, didn't you? That's probably why she stayed. You got a new Pokémon and trained her just to mess with me, Oh ho, but I'm on to your little game."
The Fennekin seemed to grow more amused as he frantically searched around his house for whoever this Cooper person was. She waited for a minute or so before calling out to Andrew again.
"Andrew please sit down so we can talk. Also, I have already told you, my name is not brat. So please stop calling me that."
Andrew stopped his search while looking in his hallway closet. Taking a deep breath, he slowly walked back to the dining room table and sat in the chair across from her. She stared at him for a few seconds before typing.
"Good. Now that you've gotten that out of your system, we can have a proper conversation. So, first things first. Introductions."
She straightened herself up and cleared her throat before making eye contact.
"I have decided that I want my name to be. I chose this simply because of how affectionate it is. My name is Sweetheart."
She finished typing and with a smile on her face and gently wagging her tail waited for Andrew's reaction. Meanwhile, he simply sat across from her with a frown on his face before he responded.
"Alright I'll play along for now. I think that's a stupid name."
Sweetheart taken aback by the harsh comment sputtered for a second before frantically smacking the keyboard. The synthesized voice not doing well in portraying her emotions. She solved this problem by simply turning the volume up.
"IT IS NOT STUPID! IT'S A VERY NICE NAME FOR SOMEONE LIKE ME!"
Andrew sighed while rubbing his face with a hand, already tired even though he just woke up.
"Yes, it is. Why out of all the names you could have picked, you pick that one. You obviously have access to the internet for Arceus' sake! Look up popular baby names and pick from there. Its not even a proper name, it's a term of endearment, to which I argue that I feel no such feeling for you."
Before Sweetheart could respond he interrupted her.
"Another thing, before we can even talk about that, why don't you explain a couple of things to me. 1. How did you get this device, 2. How can you use it, And 3. WHY ARE YOU STILL IN MY HOUSE!"
Andrew was breathing audibly with his hands turned up in front of himself. Sweetheart sat quietly for a moment letting Andrew collect himself before answering.
"Well to answer your questions, I made this device which is also how I can use it. As for why I'm still here, put simply I don't want to leave. You are rather easy to command, yesterday being a good example as such. You seem to be making decent money to afford a nice house like this, along with all this technology you have just laying around."
Andrew stared in disbelief at this Pokémon hearing her reasoning. Sweetheart simply looked at him like what she had said was just an obvious observation.
"You mean to tell me that not only do you have no intention of leaving, but that you plan to boss me around in my own house."
*silence*
"Yes. That is exactly what I am saying."
Andrew sat silently, unmoving, for a moment.
"Hell. No."
He lunged across the table to grab the arrogant Pokémon knocking the device onto the floor as he did so. Sweetheart ducked under the table and scrambled away to the living room, hiding herself behind the side of the couch. Andrew, while laying across the table looked underneath where she had disappeared. Not seeing her he slid off, standing and looking around for where she went.
"I will not be bossed around by some mad scientist little Pokémon! I don't care what kind of crazy shit you can make, do it in someone else's house, cause I am not putting up with this shit!"
After a quick survey of the kitchen, he ran into the living room, and seeing limited options for her to hide ran straight to the couch. Crouching down and getting ready to grab, he bolted around to the side of the couch. What he didn't expect was for her to jump over him and land on the back of his head, driving his face down into the carpet. Not letting this stop him Andrew quickly rolled over, throwing her off him onto the ground. Now lying on his back sat up and attempted to snatch her. Sweetheart tried to run and got about two steps in before feeling herself being pulled backwards. Looking back, she saw Andrew had grabbed her tail, before he stood up.
"YIP!"
"HA, GOTCHA!"
Andrew mocked Sweetheart for a moment standing there holding her by the tail.
"I don't know why I didn't just do this right off the bat. That was easier than I thought it would be."
He started walking toward the door holding the struggling Pokémon at arm's length. What he didn't count on was how heavy she was along with her frantic movements making it hard to keep a grip. Not wanting to have to chase her around his house he quickly grabbed her torso, pulling her to his chest and pinning her paws against himself. This was to keep her from attempting to scratch him. Sweetheart wasn't giving up though. She reared her head back chomped down onto his shoulder.
"AUUGH, YOU LITTLE BITCH!"
Andrew fell backwards onto the floor but refused to let her go. Seeing as his hands were full and with no other options did the only thing he could think to do.
"Hrrrng. An eye for an eye you shithead."
He then clamped his own teeth on the closest thing he could get to. This being her ear. Sweetheart let out another startled yelp not expecting him to hold on and bite back. Neither one was letting go as they struggled on the floor to make the other give up. They were so caught up in the dirty wrestling match that they didn't notice the front door open.
"Hey Andrew, I came over since you weren't answering your ph-."
The man stopped while staring down at the man and mon that were locked in a vicious bite fight. The man himself was a little taller than average standing at a solid six-foot even, but he looked short compared to Andrew's six-foot nine frame. He was rather heavy set with a large gut and a bushy beard to match.
"Oh damn man, when did you get a Pokémon? I thought you never cared about getting one."
He closed the door behind himself and squatted down next to them watching as neither one acknowledged him.
"Ya'll wrestling or something? That's so cute! Imma take a picture and send it to you."
The still unidentified man pulled his phone out and snapped a few photos at different angles before sending them all to Andrew. After another moment of watching, he noticed that they still were not giving up. Deciding that the match had gone on for long enough, he reached down and grabbed Sweetheart by the scruff and Andrew by the back of his shirt.
"Alrighty, that's enough you two. You've got company right now, so you'll have to play later."
With almost no effort he lifted them off the ground and physically pulled them apart holding them both off the ground. Now separated they took notice of the man.
"Cooper! Oh thank Arceus, you're here. Quick throw that little shit outside and lock the fucking door!"
Hearing this Sweetheart tried to make her own plea regardless of the language barrier.
"FENNEKIN FEN FE KIN KIN FENNEKIN!" NO, PLEASE DON'T THROW ME OUT I'LL BE GOOD I PROMISE!
Hearing them bother speaking at the same time Cooper just looked between the two before speaking.
"Now listen, I'm not sure what happened but you can't just throw your Pokémon outside like that. You need to work with it otherwise you won't reach an understanding."
"She's not my Pokémon, now put me down!"
Cooper released Andrew who took a moment to check his shoulder. You could see clear indentions, but thankfully no broken skin. While he did that Cooper gently set Sweetheart down. Seeing this Andrew tried to stop him, but she had already bolted to the dining room.
"NO! WAI- oh whatever. I doubt she'll do anything right now anyways."
Andrew calmly walked to the dining room with Cooper following. They could see Sweetheart messing with the device on the ground. Apparently, something broke when it was knocked off the table. They watched as she hopped onto the table carrying the device in her mouth. She carefully set it down before pulling a damaged part off it. Cooper watched in amazement before asking:
"Whoa, you taught her how to fix things? Dude that is so fucking cool! How did you do that when it's only been a week since I was last here?"
"I didn't teach that brat jackshit. She showed up yesterday and wouldn't leave. I woke up and she had put that together and was talking to me. Don't let her cute little face fool you she's an arrogant bossy little shit."
"Talked to you?"
Andrew crossed his arms and glared at the Pokémon searching through the spare parts before she pulled out the part she needed and walked over to her device to install it.
"Yup. She told me that she wasn't leaving. I tried to make her, and that's how we ended up fighting in the living room."
"Oh. Well, does she have a name?"
"… she doesn't have one."
About this time is when Sweetheart finished with her repairs. She makes sure everything is in place and connected properly before she reboots it. Andrew and Cooper watch as she waits patiently until the device gives a small beep. She then pushes it to a spot in front of a chair before jumping onto the chair. Sweetheart pauses for a second to rub her still sore ear while glaring at Andrew who rubs his shoulder and glares back. She huffs before locking eyes with Cooper and begins typing.
"Hello Cooper. I do have a name (another glare at Andrew who flips her the bird), and it is Sweetheart."
She gives a sweet smile while wagging her tail and gently tilting her head. This of course melts Cooper's big heart.
"Dawww, she's so adorable and she can talk. Why would you want to get rid of her?"
"Because I didn't want a Pokémon in the first place, and like I said she's a brat who thinks just because she can jam a bunch of parts together to make a shittier version of a laptop, that she can just do whatever she wants."
Sweetheart buts in before Cooper can respond.
"This is not a shittier laptop. If anything, it's better than the one you are using. I changed the coding and software to better fit my own needs, without all the unnecessary programs and spyware on a normal laptop so:"
Leaving that sentence open she could blow a raspberry at Andrew. He looked at the small device with a little more respect after hearing what she did. Another question did pop into his mind at this point.
"Who taught you to do all of this."
Sweetheart doesn't move at first before slowly typing back.
"I don't know. I can just do this. It's like I've done it before, but I can't remember where I learned it from. I try not to think about it too much because it makes my head hurt."
"Uh-huh, sure. Whatever, keep your secrets. Not like it matters since you are LEAVING."
Cooper interjects and pulls Andrew back a bit and starts whispering so Sweetheart wouldn't hear them.
"Hold on a second man. You've got a Pokémon who can think and kind of talk like a human. Do you know how extraordinary that is?"
Andrew whispers backs to him
"I don't care. She's a little bitch. Coming into my house and telling me what she is and isn't doing. It pisses me off and makes me think of those dumb bitches we had to deal with in high school."
"What if she could help you with your work? Ya know, earn her keep. Maybe you could train her to be less… I don't know bossy? Think about it from this point of view. How many people can say they have a Pokémon who can not only repair electronics but can hold a conversation? At least one that's not a psychic type. That shit is so fucking cool, can't you see?"
Andrew put his annoyance aside and put some genuine thought into it. It would be neat to have a Pokémon who could do all that, and it would be nice to have some help whenever he got flooded with work without having to pay for a whole other person. Andrew stepped forward and addressed Sweetheart.
"Alright, … you." he began.
Hearing him address her, she gave a smile and a gentle wag. She could tell that the conversation had worked towards her favor.
"I'll make a deal with you. I'll let you stay here, feed you, and care for you but only if you help me with my work. If you do that then I'll have no problem with you being here, but you must respect me and you must ask if you want me to do something. Do not try to force me or demand I do anything, or we will have problems. Understand?"
If she was happy before, now she was positively bursting with joy. She was practically shaking the whole chair with her excessive wagging. She quickly typed out an answer.
"That sounds like a wonderful deal, and I only have one request myself. Anytime you address me or introduce me you must use my name. In fact, I want to hear you say it."
Andrew stared at her for a moment before rolling his eyes.
"I'm still not crazy about the name you picked, but fine. Will you help me with my work in exchange for living here… Sweetheart?"
"YES!"
With this excited answer she jumped from her chair to the table and launched herself at Andrew, who barely caught her in time and wound up sprawled across the floor. Sweetheart was wildly licking his face while Cooper stood there and laughed his ass off.
"HAHAHAHAHA, well at least if nothing else you can say for certain she likes you. Especially since she was trying so hard to stay with you in the first place."
"GET OFF OF ME SWEETHEART!"
Unfortunately hearing him say her name again just made her lick him more as he physically lifted her up and held her away from his face.
"Bleh, I thought you weren't like a normal Pokémon, so what's with the licking?"
"Fennekin."
"Oh yeah."
He set her down before getting off the ground and brushing himself off as she went back to her device.
"I'm sorry, I was just so happy that you were willingly letting me stay and calling me by my name. I just couldn't help myself."
Andrew just sighed as he cleaned his face off with his shirt.
"It's fine, just try not to do that please. I don't like being slobbered on."
Andrew turned to Cooper only now wondering what his best friend stopped by for.
"So, what brought you over anyway."
"I texted you to see if you wanted to hang out and play some videogames today. When you didn't answer I came to check on you since it was almost noon at the time."
Andrew looked at the clock to see that it was close to one in the afternoon.
"Well, it's too late for breakfast, but not too late for lunch. I can make something for us to munch on then we can start playing some games."
Andrew moved into the kitchen and began pulling out a pan and some ingredients. Meanwhile Sweetheart asked Cooper a question.
"Do you think I could join you two?"
"Well, I don't see why not. Do you think you could use a controller?"
"As long as someone holds it for me, I think I can work the controls myself."
"Awesome! Ya hear that Andrew maybe now you can have TWO people whoop your ass in PokeSmash."
Andrew was in the middle of cooking a stir fry and just responded over his shoulder.
"Two? I don't recall even one person being able to be me at that game if I remember right."
Cooper got a gleam in his eye as he smiled.
"Oooo, I'm gonna make you regret that."
Once the food was done and they had all ate they moved into the living room. Cooper then proceeded to get his ass stomped not only by Andrew, but by Sweetheart as well when she got Andrew to hold the controller for her while she sat in his lap. Of course, when they weren't paying attention Cooper snapped a few photos to show off to his other friends. When Sweetheart played against Andrew however it turned into her getting curb stomped by Andrew being that he had a quicker reaction time and more experience. After the games were done Cooper even made a PokeBook post accompanied by the pictures he had taken of them while they were "wrestling" and playing games.
"Hey everyone, just a quick update, but Andrew finally got over himself and got a Pokémon. She's an adorable Fennekin named Sweetheart, and don't let her cute widdle face fool you. She's a lot smarter than she looks."
Meanwhile several miles away laying on her bed was a teenage girl scrolling through her feed on her phone. She came across Cooper's post and nearly dropped it in surprise. Staring at the photo she could feel her eyes grow huge before she bolted off her bed and out of her room.
"MOM! MOM! ANDREW GOT A POKEMON! NOT ONLY THAT IT'S SO FREAKING CUUUTE!"
