The third chapter of A Viking Family and the buildup for some action starts now.

Thanks to those who read my story. I will continue to updated it which might take some time.

Snotlout sat in the Great Hall with the other riders, expect of course Hiccup and Astrid, and the council members.

They were done discussing and wanted to talk about what to do next but apparently not before Hiccup and Astrid showed up.

"Why do we need Hiccup anyway I mean I know he's the heir but can't we tell him later about all this?" Tuffnut asked slightly impatient.

Snotlout agreed but he knew better than saying it out loud.

"And what if he and Astrid don't even come back, do we just wait here the whole Night?" Ruffnut asked with the same tone her brother used but then the doors of the Great Hall creaked open and in came a Nadder and a Night fury with Hiccup and Astrid right after and of course they were holding hands, which annoyed Snotlout a little.

"What happened, did the power couple forget about us again?" Snotlout asked lout and clear which earned him a glare from Astrid.

"Sorry the patrol flight took a little longer." Hiccup apologized immediately while looking at Stoick.

"A little?! It is almost after-" "Ok that's enough we have more important things to do then find out where my son and Astrid were!" Stoick cut Snotlout of with his loud voice. "Hiccup I hope ya calmed yer mind because we were just talking about the incident earlier and now wanted to discuss what to do next." Stoick asked looking at Hiccup who now sat next to Fishlegs and in front of Stoick.

And of course, Astrid sat herself so close beside him that there was basically no gap between them.

`Can't they be apart each other for five seconds?´ Snotlout thought to himself but before he could do more than just thinking the discussions went on.

"Are there any news about why this happened?" Hiccup asked looking at Fishlegs and Snotlouts dad Spitelout who were in charge of analyzing and transporting the Dragons.

"Yes, there certainly is." Fishlegs answered. "After the Dragons woke up, they weren't hostile anymore but we still transported them away though." He continued.

"And I followed the Nightmare that fled which wasn't hostile anymore too but it certainly had a destination that it wanted to reach." Spitelout answered after Fishlegs.

"Where did it go? Was there some kind of nest like back then with the Green death?" Astrid asked visibly nervous about the answer because even Snotlout had to admit that he did NOT want to fight a thing like that again.

"I don't know I only followed it far enough to say that its destination was far up north." Spitelout answered and Snotlout thought just how far north did this Dragon fly that even his dad stopped following it.

"An' now we want ta talk 'bout what to do next." Gobber said after a few seconds.

"Aye so what do ya think?" Stoick asked looking at the Gang. "Because we can't let something like this happen again, those beasts nearly destroyed half of our traders ships." He added before somebody could answer his previous question.

Nobody answered, not even Hiccup or Fishlegs which surprised Snotlout.

"How about, since I couldn't follow it because of missing preparations, you all pack together everything you need and follow its scent." Spitelout said after some silence. "You would have to leave this exact day though because its trail of scent is likely already disappearing."

The whole gangs eyes widened at that.

"You mean that." The Twins started. "We are going to." Hiccup and Astrid continued. "Have another adventure?!" Snotlout and Fishlegs finished all with the same enthusiasm.

"Seems like you really need a break from Berk." Mulch chuckled with Bucket at their immediate reaction.

"Are there any complaints or different ideas?" Stoick asked which nobody responded to. "Aye so its decided pack up we will all meet at the docks in about two hours."

A loud cheer of ayes rose from the table and then everybody left.

Snotlout got out of the Great Hall to go to his hut and prepare everything needed and so did the rest of the gang.

Even though he was still annoyed that he spend so much time waiting in the Great Hall he was really happy that they all could do at least something again.

Once he left the Great Hall, Stoick saw that Hiccup and the others all got to their homes to pack their things and he then saw his opportunity to have a little father-son talk about the events earlier of today and the upcoming travel to who-knows-where so he made his way down the stairs of the Great Hall and up the stairs to the Haddock Hall.

The doors to the main room creaked open and the fireplace was already lit giving some heat to the warmer but still chilly temperature.

Stoick heard that Hiccup was packing in his room with all the rumbling coming from upstairs so he made his way up.

He knocked on the door and heard a fast "come in" so he opened the door and saw Hiccup packing an extra tail fin into a bag.

"Hey dad." Hiccup said after looking up to see who entered his room.

"Hello son so er can we talk a little." Stoick asked already sensing that, like all their father-son talks, this will turn awkward. "About what 'append earlier?." He added shortly after.

Hiccup stopped his packing rampage to look at Stoick with a grateful expression. "Thanks dad but it's okay I talked with Astrid about it." He said and then started his packing again.

Stoick put a hand on his shoulder, which disappeared under his hand, and moved him to stop again. "I already guessed that ya talked with her but I want ya to talk to me too son."

Hiccup sighed and sat down on his bed. "Ok dad what do you want to talk about exactly?" Stoick got himself a chair and sat down in front of Hiccup. "About how ya feel about today and the upcoming trip because I doubt it will be a short one aye." Stoick started. "Dad about today everything is fine really I hate to hurt dragons as much as a hate Astrids yaknog, by the way please don't tell her that ever, but some things have to be done for the better." Hiccup answered immediately. "And about the trip I am really enthusiastic because we all need some time off of Berk." He added.

Stoick was glad that he saw it like this but he wasn't done yet. "Son I am glad ya think like this but is it really yer that says this or is it, as ya said, that it's for the better?"

At this question Hiccup eyes widened a little but noticeable enough. "I-I am a-a." was all Hiccup said. "Ya are a?" Stoick asked looking at his son with suspicion.

"I am a Viking and the future chief of Berk and a chief protects his own." Hiccup said looking into Stoicks eyes with dedication.

Stoick understood immediately and his heart filled with pride towards his son. Only with those few words he said that, even if he hated it, he would do everything to protect those he loves. "I understand son and I am proud of ya but can I ask ya one more thing?" Stoick asked with visible happiness in his eyes.

"Go on." Hiccup said.

"Ya talked with Astrid about this and she is the reason why ya say this isn't she?" Stoick asked after some consideration of how to put it.

"Partly yeah but she isn't the only reason I say this, it's everybody here in the village so that includes you dad, Toothless and even Snotlout I would fight for everybody here and this I realized after everything happened in the last couple years on Dragons edge and all the innocent that got hurt, human and dragon." Hiccup answered with the same dedication still in his eyes which travelled to his whole body Stoick noticed because he was sitting straight and was nearly on eye level with Stoick.

"Ok son that would be it I am glad ya realized that." Stoick said standing up and putting the chair back.

"Thanks dad." Hiccup said also standing up.

"No problem son, I am proud of ya." Stoick said with the proudest of all expressions on his face. "Now lets get everything ready ya have a trip to lead." He added which Hiccup only nodded to.

After some time, they got everything packed up and Hiccup was ready to leave which he did after a `see you later dad´.

And the only thing Stoick thought that it wasn't such an awkward conversation as he expected.

This chapter took some time and so will some others since I'm doing this for fun it can take from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.
