p style="text-align: center;"strong - CHAPTER ONE - /strong/p
p style="text-align: center;" /p
p style="text-align: left;"emI couldn't get a friend even if I paid for one.../em/p
p style="text-align: left;"This was the last text that I sent my mum before she got on a plane to Madrid. /p
p style="text-align: left;"To tell you the truth, I don't have a problem being on my own. Pretty much everything that most 'normal' people would do with a friend or their better half, I'm quiet content to do own my own. I'll go to the movies on my own, the café, etc. I won't dine out by myself though. That's where I draw the line. Reminds me of a 90s rom-com, like emWhen Harry Met Sally. /emPoor Sally sits at the café in NYC waiting for her Mr Darcy with her book and her rose. Does she cry? I can't remember. I think I felt too bad to watch closely. /p
p style="text-align: left;"I'm an only child. I always have a a million and one thoughts rushing though my mind's eye. Thoughts, memories, dreams - even when I'm awake I'll sometimes imagine objects right before my very eyes. I will be having dinner alone in the kitchen of my small flat and I will look down to find a rabbit or fox staring right back up at me./p
p style="text-align: left;"It's only now and then that I feel it - at about 1 or 2 in the morning when the lights are out and I'm in bed. The whirring of the air-conditioning filling my ears, making me nauseous. When all the thoughts leave my mind and my body goes cold. Water bleeds out of the corner of my eye and onto my pillow. My heart swells big and fat and a sharp pain jabs at my chest. I feel hollow inside and as I drift to sleep I see myself tumble down the black eyes of the fox. /p
p style="text-align: left;"Then there is light. /p
p style="text-align: left;"I pick myself up, and press down the pleats of my skirt. I'm in a shopping mall now, at the Lancome beauty counter. As I reach for my favourite perfume bottle, that's when I see her. She's heading my way./p
p style="text-align: left;"Butterflies fill my chest./p
p style="text-align: left;"I can barely breath. /p
