Anna was stretched out on the couch after finishing work. She was talking to her sister while Jess was reading on the recliner. "Grandma broke into my dorm and furnished it and put an entertainment system in. When I explained that it might make my roommate uncomfortable. She said that was the point, to give me leverage."

"That woman is a genius. I bow to her brilliance." She hummed.

"Susanna! This is serious. I don't want people to feel like they have to walk on eggshells around me." She whines. "Paris already thinks I'm trying to lord it over her because I don't want to leave my door open for strangers to come in."

"What?" She didn't know why anyone would do that.

"It's a college party thing. Our floor is hosting and anyone who wants to be a part of it leaves their door open." She explains.

"Why don't you just give out your belongings to the robbers?" She scoffs.

"That's what I was saying. Paris had been having tantrums about it. She wants college to be different from high school." She explains.

"It does sound like fun." She hummed.

"You just said it's a good way to get robbed." She argued.

"Put all the things you don't want to get stolen in your room and lock it. If anything that Grandma bought gets stolen you can use that as a reason that she shouldn't be buying you those kinds of things." She flicks through the tv looking for something to watch.

"I guess it's an experience that I might not get again." She sighs.

"If you need to you can still lock yourself in your room." She reasoned.

"Alright, I give this party life a try." She didn't think she would like it.

"Yes!" Paris yelled in the background.

"I'm not doing this for you!" She didn't want her to think she won.

"Like I care." She grabbed the phone from Rory who yelled in protest. "Thank you, Anna."

"Your welcome, Paris." She smiled. "I hope your party goes well and you get a good social standing."

"I hope your cohabiting is going well… Goodbye." She hands the phone back.

"So, have you gotten in trouble for hitting the craft table yet?" She asked.

"Yes, it's right by the door. It was in the middle of the night and I had to use the bathroom. I didn't want to turn on the light and wake her up, so I ended up running into it and knocking something over." She spent most of her time in the common area, not feeling like her room was her own space.

"She took over the room, so I would embrace taking over the common area." She brought it back to their original topic.

"I have two other roommates." She reminds her.

"The one always running and the other's an airhead, they won't care." She shrugged.

"She's not an airhead." She denies.

"She's only book smart. Don't know how she's going to survive." She heard stories of how she didn't know any social cues.

"She is nice." Rory defends her pleasant roommate.

"She's going to end up in a murder's basement if she keeps being gullible. She was going to give her pantie to those boys when they told her it was research for women's health." She had heard many stories of this teenager. Jess looks up at hearing that.

"I know." Rory didn't want the world to ruin her.

"Well, I hope you have fun at your party." She heard someone buzzing their apartment. Jess got up to pay the delivery guy.

"I guess your food is here since you're trying to end the conversation." Rory snickers.

"You know me so well, bye." She hangs up the phone.

Jess brought in the Indian food. "Why are you always asking about the roommate?"

"Tana? I just want to make sure she is still alive." She was thankful she didn't have anyone that naive in her life. She would end up following them around all day making sure they were safe.

"The people you choose to get attached to." He mutters under his breath. He was amazed by how she gravitated to oddballs. He should be thankful since that trait is what got her with him.

"When I do get a chance to visit them, I think I'm going to get her mace." She picked up a naan to put some butter chicken in. She folded it up to eat like a taco.

Anna was cleaning the apartment. "I don't know why you're obsessing. I saw your mom's house. it's a mess." Jess watches her dust as he eats breakfast. Lorelai was coming to visit.

"I want her to leave with no worries, for that to happen she has to see I'm living in good conditions." She grabbed the mop.

"Well, I'm happy to be going to work today." He grabs his lunch box.

"Jess…" She sighs.

"Hey, we tolerate each other. What more can you ask for?" He gave her a peck before leaving.

"Yeah, yeah." She went back to moping. Her alarm went off when she was done. "It's time to pick up mom." She grabs her mini-stitch backpack and heads out the door. She drove to the airport. She was picking up her mom. Lorelai would be staying for a night then they would drive to Star Hollow. She spent the day there before going to Friday night diner.

She got out of the car when she saw her mom to give her a big hug. "I know it's only been a little while but I missed you so much."

"I feel the same way." She squeezed her tightly.

"Jeez mom, you're only going to be here for one night." She looks at her mom's two suitcases and large duffle.

"I'll have you know this one is a gift to you." She pats the mini rose gold vintage suitcase.

"You're giving me a suitcase." She picked it up to get a closer look.

"There's more than meets the eyes. I'll show you when we get to your place. I got a big presentation plan." She grabbed it from her.

"Alright." She took the duffle from her and the handle to roll the large suitcase. She opened up the trunk to put the luggage in.

They got into the car to head back to the apartment. "So, how are the renovations on the Inn coming?" She pulled onto the freeway.

"Hey! This is my time to find out about you, not the other way around." She wanted to know everything.

"You use that excuse every time we are on the phone, so you know everything that's going on here. I need my Stars Hollow updates." She argues.

"Then why don't you subscribe to the Stars Hollow Gazette like your sister?" She snickers, still not believing that Rory did that.

"Rory, did what? I don't know how they are still running. The only people I know that have a subscription are Taylor and Kirk." She hummed.

"It's all the old people and Kirk." Lorelai corrected her.

"Besides if I got it I would know that Taylor had his grand opening. I wouldn't know that he had a meltdown over the band going off the playlist." She wanted the dirty details.

"Well, I need the information to come back with, everyone wants an update." She was hounded every time she went out about the girls.

"We can take turns telling each other interesting things." She decided to compromise.

"Alright, Luke got married on his cruise and he's going through a divorce." Lorelai picked the topic that was on her mind.

"What? To Nicole?" She asked.

"Yes, Nicole, who else? Luke takes forever to decide he likes someone and you think he found someone new on the cruise." She reminds her about their flannel-wearing hermit.

"Why are they getting a divorce?" She wonders.

"Because they realized it was ridiculous to get married that soon. Why do you think they should stay married?" She thought a divorce was the right idea.

She shrugged. "If the marriage didn't happen and they didn't freak out about moving too fast, would they still be together? I think so, so I don't see why they can't continue dating. Maybe in the future, they'd want to get married."

"I don't know, maybe, but they're barely talking. Her lawyers are giving him a hard time. They believe he wants something from her and is pretending not to so that he can blindside them in court." She went on to tell her about the old men hounding Luke to find out what he wanted.

"So, this is the place." Anna opens the door to the apartment.

"Oh, it's bigger than I thought." She walks in. "Nicer too."

"I told you it was nice." She closes and locks the door. Jess was constantly reminding her to do so. He had been telling her since he met her that she needed to be more conscious of her surroundings, but now that they were in a big city he was more serious about the topic.

"I know but I wasn't sure if you were lying to make me feel better." She was taking a tour of the place. She stops when she walks into the bedroom. "One bed." She looks at the queen size bed that took up most of the room.

"Did you suspect something different?" Anna looks at her shell-shocked mother.

"I don't know why I'm shocked. It just hit me that you're an adult living with your boyfriend." She knew it was true but seeing the one bed made it real. It was different from Rory. She dropped her off at college, it allowed her to still think of her as a child in some way because she wasn't fully on her own. Anna was out living in the real world with rent and a job.

"Are you going to be alright?" She stares at the side of her face.

"Yeah, I'm good. How about I show you my gift." She followed her mom out to the living room. She picked up the pink suitcase and pushed a button and four stands shot out. Anna jumped back in surprise. She watched in amazement when her mom put it on the ground and opened it up. She stared down at the vanity. Lights were surrounding a mirror that made her feel like an old Hollywood star.

"This is amazing." She looks at the makeup-filled suitcase.

"I know. It's neat looking and it's perfect for a smaller place." She gave the same pitch that the sales lady gave her.

"I love it." She smiles.

"Really? I thought this place was going to be a lot smaller. Your bathroom is a decent size. You can do your makeup there." She didn't want her gift to be pointless.

"I have been but now I don't have to do it standing up. I can do my makeup on the couch or the bed. Hell, I can do it on the balcony." She listed the place she would rather do her makeup than the bathroom.

"Oh, the balcony, look at that view." She walks onto it.

They went to dinner at Gillespie's. "The coffee is good." Lorelai hummed.

"I know I get a cup and espresso shot for my lunch every shift." She nods.

"You're drinking too much coffee." Jess knew it was a losing battle but he had to voice his opinion.

"No such thing." Lorelai gasps.

"She drinks a cup in the morning and takes the rest of the pot in a thermo for school. Then she goes to work and has an espresso shot on both her breaks and another for lunch with a cup of coffee. After work, she stops by the cafe to get a latte." He lists.

"Oh, those were good." Lorelai nods. Anna took her there for lunch.

"Then she comes home to make another pot." He finished.

"Sounds normal to me." Lorelai shrugged.

"Sounds like she is trying to give herself a heart attack." He scoffs.

"Ah, the Gilmore heart is strong." Anna patted her chest.

"So, anything new going on with you, Jess?" Lorelai asked.

"No, just going to work then home." It was the way he liked it.

"He's writing," Anna spoke up.

"Anna." He hissed.

"Oh, what is he writing?" She ignored his protest to ask.

"I don't know, it's top secret. It might be a diary, a novel, or a manifesto." She shrugged.

"It's just something to do in my free time." He wasn't going to share.

"We are planning on getting a dog… now that I no longer live with the angel of death." Anna teased.

"Hahaha…. So funny." Lorelai grits her teeth. "What kind of dog are you going to get?"

"I want a small fluffy one." Anna wanted a cute baby to cuddle on the couch with.

"Fluffy would mean we have to pay for haircuts." Jess thought a long hair dog would come with an extra bill. "And you would have to wipe their butts after they pooped because their crap got stuck on their fur."

The waitress cleared her throat as she put down their food. "Sorry about him, Mindy." She apologized to her coworker. "We're not sure what kind of dog we're going to get. We plan to go to the shelter and pick one."

"I can't wait to see my granddog." She claps.

"You will. I'm going to parade them around Stars Hollow like a proud mama." She puffs her chest out.

"It's a dog, not a god." He rolled his eyes.

"You bite your tongue when you speak ill of my child." Anna points an accusing finger at him.

The four-hour drive to Stars Hollow was filled with karaoke and gas station snacks. She parked in front of their house. "I'm going to shower then head to the Lord of the Rings party." Lorelai unbuckles her seatbelt. "That's a sentence I never thought I have to say." She got out of the car.

Anna snickers as she gets out. She took a big sniff when she walked into the house. She didn't notice it had a smell until she came back from Europe. It smelled like coffee, old books, and floral perfume. It was a smell that she longs to be surrounded by. As much as she was enjoying living with Jess, this would always be home. "I'm going to meet Lane." She yelled up to her mother.

"Okay, see you at the diner for lunch." She yelled from the bathroom.

"Okay, bye." She walks out the door to head over to Lukes's, where she was going to have breakfast with Lane.

"Hey, how has college been?" She took a seat at the table her friend was at.

"I had to go to detention for wearing a bracelet. Other than that it's been boring. It feels like I'm going to a brainwashing program." She deflated. "I miss you and Rory. I have no one to vent to."

"What about the band?" She asked.

"It's been stressful with Dave going to college in another state. Every time we have a band meeting Zack goes off the handle about Dave betraying us and nothing gets done." She explains.

"You know you can call me." She felt bad that Lane was by herself here.

"I know but with our lives now, we have to schedule a time to talk. I don't want to use that time to complain to you." She shook her head.

"You don't have to hold back with me. Unless it is about my new dog then keep your comments to yourself." She warns.

"You have a new dog." She squealed.

"No, but Jess agreed to get one with me." She smiled.

"Getting a pet with a guy is a big step." She hummed.

"We're living together." She laughs.

"Yeah, but what if you break up and he wants the dog." She watches a case like that on Judge Judy.

"He already agreed that if anything happened that I would get to keep the dog. I got it on paper and everything." She had already thought of that.

"Good thinking." She nods.

Anna found herself drinking coffee at Luke's all day. As soon as one person left another would come in and see her. They would want to have a chat. At the moment she was sitting with Sookie, Lorelai, Miss Patty, and Babette. "So, Sookie, how do you know Chef Ned Blois?" Anna got around to asking what she had been dying to know.

"You meet him?" She was surprised at hearing that name.

"He's one of my teachers." She told her.

"I knew he was in Philadelphia, but I didn't know he was at the school. How did my name come up?" She wonders.

"He must have read your recommendation letter." She tells them about him being extra hard on her. He criticized her more than other people. They were learning to butcher a chicken and she messed up on a leg. He nailed her for it while he was patient with others.

"He was the boss at my first job in America. He was a hard ass. On me for every mistake I made. I was a fluttering mess for the first week there." Sookie rubs her pregnant stomach.

"A tough boss can be quite sexy: the aggression, the passion. It's enough to get me worked up." Miss Patty fans herself with her hand.

"Did things ever get steamy between you two?" Babette leans in to ask.

Sookie looked around before whispering, "It was one night." The women at the table scream in excitement. "I got the job at the Inn. It was my last day there and he opened up to me. He was hard on me because he saw a lot of potential in me. One thing leads to another." She blushed.

"Sookie!" Lorelai gasped.

"He wasn't my boss anymore and he was a sexy older man." She defends her younger self.

"So, he is hard on me because he sees my potential?" She questions slowly.

"Or, he is getting revenge because Sookie left him after a night of lovemaking." Lorelai teased her friend.

"Or, he's trying to get you the same way he got Sookie." Miss Patty raises her eyebrows.

"I hope not." Lorelai put a hand over her chest as she felt like dry heaving.

"I hope not too, he's like fifty." She was disgusted at the suggestion.

"An older man can teach you things about your body that you don't know," Babette told her.

"Stop, I have to see this man every day." She didn't know how she was going to look at him the next time she saw him.

Anna pulled up to Gilmore Manor at the same time as her mother. They got out of their cars to see Rory leaning against hers while she drank a coffee. "Hi!" They greeted her.

"I decided I'm going to do it." She raised her mug to them.

"To do what?" Anna asked.

"I'm going to go in there and I'm going to tell Grandma that she's going to butt out of my life." She was agitated.

"Can I…?" Lorelai leaned down to sniff. She pulled it away. "Just checking. So, you have soberly decided to confront my mother?"

"Rory, you can't win a fight when she gives you things and sends people to be your friend." She didn't see that argument going well.

"I can do it." She nods determinedly.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Lorelai asks.

"I'm 100 percent sure." She marched towards the house.

"Alright, then I support you 100 percent." Lorelai had an amused smile.

"Never a dull night with you guys." Anna hopes Emily didn't destroy Rory.

"Thank you." She looked back at her mother.

"Just make sure you wait for the right moment." She advises.

"Oh, the right moment is now." Rory turns around to tell them. She knew if she didn't do it right away she would lose her nerve. "The right moment arrived in a big pink hat full of feathers screaming, notice me because I'm here."

"Oh well, if it's wearing a hat." Lorelai went around her to push the button.

"There they are." Emily opens the door.

"Hi, Grandma." Anna waves.

"Come in." She let them in. The maid took their coats. She led them into the living room. "I tell you this day has been an absolute circus. I missed placed every single thing I needed: my grocery list, my ticket for the shoe repair. It was a nightmare. What will you girls have?" She went to the bartending cart.

"Wait for the moment," Lorelai whispers.

Rory went in anyways. "Grandma, I have to talk to you about something."

"Yes, Rory, what is it?" Emily turns to give her full attention to her. Rory clams up under her stare. Emily tilts her head as if to say get on with it.

Richard came in to save her. "I have an announcement. I am going into business with Jason Stiles."

"Who?" Lorelai asks.

"You've met him. The Stiles Boy." He tried to jog her memory.

"Oh, Digger." She nodded as they took their seats.

"No one has called him Digger in years, Lorelai." Richard corrects her. Emily laughed seeing as he was calling him that yesterday. "I just got off the phone with him. We're going to meet together later to hash out the details." He told his wife.

"Richard, that is wonderful." She smiled.

"I didn't know you were looking for a partner," Lorelai said.

"He wasn't. Jason came to him." Emily explains.

"That's right. He says he wants to strike out on his own. He wanted to work with the best and he wanted to screw his father." Richard put a hand over his heart in pride.

"What?" Lorelai was surprised.

"Oh, excuse me, Rory." He apologies.

"What about Susanna?" She pouts.

"I've heard you before." He gave her a pointed look. She giggled behind her hand.

"You never told me this before Richard." Emily didn't like the new information.

"I was a bit surprised at the beginning but I have to admit that when he told me that part of his motive was revenge I was intrigued. No, I was tickled. I thought it was wonderful. What a wonderful world we live in that the son of my enemy hates his father and that I benefit from it. It's downright Elizabethan." Richard was gleeful.

The ladies on the couch giggled at his joy. His wife wasn't amused. "I don't think this is funny Richard."

"No, I suppose not. However, I can't stop smiling." He chuckled.

"I don't think you should go into business with this boy." Emily wasn't going to trust someone that would screw over their family.

"Oh, now, Emily." Richard sighs.

"He's troubled. You don't need to be handing your business to a troubled youth." She didn't want his business to fail because of his pettiness.

"He's 37 years old." He thought that was far from being a youth.

"Yes, hes' 37 years old and all he can think about is how to get back at his father. I don't understand that kind of thinking." Emily argued. Lorelai sunk in her seat, trying to stay invisible.

"You know Floyd, he's horrible." He argues.

"He is the boy's father. He raised him. He clothed him. He fed him. He took him under his wing to teach him the ropes of the business. He does not deserve to be paid back for all of his love and devotion like that." Emily was projecting her issue with her daughter onto this.

Everyone but Richard could see that. "Why are you getting so upset?" He asked.

"I don't want to talk about it anymore." She walks towards the dining room.

"Emily, be reasonable." He begs while following her.

"I never liked that Digger in the first place." She left the room.

"Emily, come back." Richard would hear about it every night if he didn't get her on board.

Lorelai and Anna looked at Rory and started to make chicken sounds. "It wasn't the right moment." She pouts. They went on with their imitation. "I was about to when Grandpa came in and got her upset. I got interrupted. I didn't chicken out." They pause before continuing their noises until they get called for dinner.
