Chapter 2: An Accidental Kiss

The young boy hid behind the couch as he saw what was outside.

Standing more than 20 feet from the house his parents were renting was a figure that looked very inhuman.

However, before he hid, he had the distinct feeling the creature saw him.

He didn't have time to think as he heard footsteps reach the door.

"Billy?" A feminine sounding voice went.

"Mom?" The boy asks.

"Billy? Open the door." The voice went, sounding stiff and robotic as it spoke more words.

In the back of his mind, young Billy felt what he heard was not his mother, and opening the door was a terrible decision.

"No… that's not Mom…" He said, sulking back behind the couch.

"Open the door!" The voice called out, knocking on the door angrily.

However, before anything else could happen, there was a long pause. Suddenly, footsteps leading away from the door were heard.

It took about 10 seconds, but Billy looked out.

"Hello?" He asks, summoning the bravery to get up and look out the window.

He saw nothing. It was as if something of greater interest caught the attention of whatever was trying to enter.

Amity Park

Danny and Danielle were at the park, playing frisbee together.

With a careful enough bend of his elbow, Danny pulled back before tossing it.

"Mine!" Danielle said after catching it.

"Nice catch..." Danny said, chuckling.

Danielle grinned as she held it up over her head.

Danny couldn't help but smile as she did a small run in a circle to celebrate.

He could recall how she told him she used to pass by this park, how she wanted to actually be involved and have fun with people whenever she passed by. That got him thinking back.

"Remember when I found you? After the Disasteroid incident?" Danny asks.

"How could I forget?" Danielle responds with a question of her own.

Flashback

It was 2 weeks after the Disasteroid

After kissing Sam bye, Danny left her house, walking down the street as he overheard a couple talking.

"Can you believe this whole craziness?" One woman asks.

"I know… that asteroid thing… total hoax. I know, I've seen online." The other woman said.

Danny rolled his eyes.

People are actually thinking it was all a hoax? He thought.

"Wanna know another hoax I've heard? They say a little girl with white hair was seen flying in the old business center of Elmerton. Pfft… that place…" The first woman said disdainfully.

Danny paused when he heard that.

"A little girl with white hair..." He whispered, having a feeling who that is.

He quickly found a place to go ghost and took off to that location.

He flew around and soon appeared to what was an abandoned building, but it wasn't empty.

No, once he was inside, he saw a little white hair girl with green eyes who was sleeping in the corner.

He knew who this was.

"Danielle!" Danny called, getting her attention.

The minute he did, the little girl smiled and looked happy to see him.

"DANNY!" She shouted as she flew to him, giving him a hug.

Flashback over

As Danielle finishes thinking back, she sees Danny making a purchase of something.

They were snow cones from a nearby vendor. Danny got two of them and brought them back.

"Snow cones..." Danielle said, looking excited.

"I'd say don't make a mess, but you've got Jack Fenton DNA, somehow more than me..." Danny said as he handed one to her.

"Thanks, Big brother…" Danielle said as she happily ate one, as messy as he expected.

The two sat together at a bench as Danny watched her eat it up.

I wonder if this is how Jazz used to see me. She did say she looks exactly like me when I was around 10. Danny thought.

However, two students from Casper High saw this and recognized Danny and couldn't help but open their big mouths.

"Look, Fenton's playing babysitter." Paulina scoffed.

"Actually, there's nothing really wrong with looking after your younger sibling. When I was younger, my cousin used to-" Star noticed Paulina glaring at her. "I mean… haha, loser." She went to save face.

Danny didn't seem to notice them yet, as he was too busy paying attention to Danielle.

"How is it?" Danny asked, only to see that she already finished it.

"Yummy..." Danielle said, her face messy with pink all over.

"Glad to know. Now clean up..." He said as he handed her a napkin.

That is when Paulina decided to make her move.

"Oh look, Fenton's got nothing better to do than spend time with little kids..." Paulina mocked.

Danielle frowned at her but Danny paid her no mind.

"Leave her be, she's not worth it..." He whispered as he kept eating his snow cone.

Paulina noticed that he didn't take her bait and frowned.

"Uh, hey loser, I'm talking to you!" Paulina tried again.

"I know..." Danny said, not caring.

Star and Paulina were shocked to hear this.

"Did he really just say that?" Star asked out loud.

"OMG! He's not reacting to me like he used to anymore!" She went, panicking. "That goth girl must have done something to make him lose interest in girls!" Paulina said horrified as she dramatically ran away, apparently unable to comprehend Danny lost interest in her.

Danny and Danielle sent her weird looks and Star almost looked embarrassed by this. She sheepishly left without saying anything, but not before getting a snow cone for herself.

"They're weird, but I like the Hispanic girl even less..." Danielle said, not liking Paulina.

"Yeah, wish I saw her ugly side sooner, Sam did warn me..." Danny said, sighing.

Danielle noticed and realized that he was looking rather down.

"So… how are you feeling? I mean, since you and… her… ended thing?" Danielle asks.

"To be honest, I'm feeling better." He said.

"That so? You're not ready to meet other girls?" Danielle asks.

"Really. Plus, I'm not ready to find another girlfriend just yet, I'd rather be by myself for a while...so, I guess that means you're stuck with me right now..." He joked.

"I can live with that..." Danielle said, making him smile.

"I figure. Come on, I think the swap meet is open today." He said as he got up, finishing his cone.

"Okay, I guess." Danielle said.

Once Danny finished his snow cone, he offered a hand to Danielle, which she took.

The two walked together as Danielle looked up at her genetic donor, smiling at being with him.

I have a big brother, one that buys me snow cones and takes me places. Awesome… She thought fondly.

Elsewhere, up North

He was a hunter, he wore a large jacket, a trapper hat, a pair of sunglasses, heavy brown pants and black snow boots. And right now, he was leaning on the tree, panting as he slid down. He didn't care he was sitting in the snow.

"W-What is that thing?!" He asked himself.

He was hunting, having shot a buck, when it happened. Something was feeding on his kill, then it looked at him with the most evil expression of anger he ever saw.

He made a break for it, eventually losing his breath as he found a tree and his behind it.

His mind was racing, thinking of the evil look the creature gave him when he heard breathing that was not his own.

Before he could do anything, an arm reached around from behind, clamping on his face. He felt a cold, uncomfortable feeling on his face as he found himself unable to talk, much less scream.

Though he couldn't see it, he knew this arm was from the creature he saw. He also couldn't see it peeking its head, teeth ready for biting.

Before it could do so, it stopped.

The creature looked away, as if something only it heard caught its attention. Then, almost instantly, it let him go and ran away.

Too scared to even look back or wonder, he ran off.

Meanwhile, the creature ignored everything, even other humans in the area, in favor of whatever caught its attention.

Sticking to the shadows of the trees, it found its way to a cave, where two similar creatures, the one attacking the couple and the one attacking the house with the boy, were also there.

The three did not communicate, only directing their attention to a cave opening.

Inside that cave, a figure in the shadows was walking deeper inside when they turned, noticing what was coming towards them.

Amity Park

Danny had brought Danielle to the swap meet, just like he said he would.

There, they walked around and Danielle was interested in purchasing some retro game. Since she didn't have any money, Danny was the one to pay for her games.

Still, he did not mind doting on his little sister, who was picking out a game of her own.

"Let's see… that one." He said, picking up a game with a bipedal purple dragon on it.

"What about this one?" Danielle said, holding up some kind of cat in a shirt.

"Ugh… no. Dad would destroy that thing." Danny said.

"Okay." Danielle said, putting it back.

They did manage to find an old handheld system that Danielle really wanted and the ghost boy obliged. She wants to effectively keep up with what was popular prior to her creation.

"Anything you want before we go?" Danny asks.

Danielle started to think, but those thoughts were cut off when their collective ghost senses went off.

The sound of a rocket was heard as Danny turned his head left and saw it coming in.

It didn't take long to realize they were the target, given their ghost senses, and it took less time to react.

"Incoming!" He called out.

The two ducked as the rocket hit the side of a truck, destroying the inside but leaving nobody harmed. However, one man ran towards it.

"I had nicely refurbished furniture in there for sale!" He shouted in anger.

The source of that rocket made himself known as he hovered over the ground, his rocket launcher retreating into his shoulder.

"A ghost!" Someone shouted.

"RUN!" Another shouted.

The two nodded before running off in separate directions.

Danny hid behind a stand that sold hot dogs. Danielle hid behind a discarded popcorn vending cart, taking some popcorn for herself in the process. Both areas flash white and two Phantoms came flying out.

Both of them faced off with Skulker.

"What do you want, Skulker?" Danny questioned.

"Uh, let's see… since this location doesn't have any harpoons and I know those swords they're selling are cheaply made knockoffs, your pelt on my wall." He said flatly.

"Ew!" Dani said.

"Not you, I just said I don't want any cheap knockoffs. Then again… I could adorn my fireplace with you." Skulker admits.

Dani scowled, both for the "knockoff" comment and his idea of using her at his fireplace.

"Well, forget that!" Danny said.

However, before he could attack, someone struck their guitar and blasted him and Dani out of the sky, sending them into the ground.

Skulker quickly became angered when he realized who did this.

"I told you! He's mine!" She shouted.

Ember flew in, crossing her arms and scowling at him.

"Like I care who called dibs. This is my practice session, so butt out!" She shouted.

As they got back up, Dani noticed as she nursed her head the two were talking as if they were some old married couple before looking at Danny.

"They know each other?" Dani asks.

"Sort of. Though I didn't think they're this familiar." Danny said.

''I said butt out!" Ember demanded.

"Make me!" Skulker responded.

A small fist fight between two ensued.

Skulker threw his fist, causing Ember to bob out of the way. He tried to take advantage with a second swing, but she backed away from it.

"At least we know you hit girls even when you don't know how to treat them…" She snarked.

"Maybe you should use those arms for something other than that guitar you love more than anything else!" Skulker said.

With that, Ember sent her first launching, only for Skulker to grab it and backhand her. This only angered her further as she pulled her arm out.

Ember's fist collided with Skulker's head, making a ding as she pulled back, hissing in pain.

"And that's why I broke up with you! I can never get anything past your thick head!" Ember snarled as she nursed her hand.

"First off, this is a suit of armor, it's the equivalent of a Japanese mecha! And second, the way my so-called thick head remembers, it was I who broke up with you!" Skulker shouted.

Danny stopped, their words suddenly reaching him and he realized what they were talking about.

"Wait… you two dated? She's the girlfriend you wanted to prove yourself too?! Uh… eww!" Danny went.

"Shut up!" Both villains yelled in sync.

"As I was saying, I broke up with you because you're a lousy hunter!" Ember shouted.

"No, I broke up with you! You were too busy putting up those stupid posters to notice!" Skulker snapped.

"KISS is not stupid!" Ember shouted, her fiery hair becoming more intense. "And that's not what happened, I told you that I was dumping your metal butt for being a lousy hunter who paid no attention to me!" She yelled.

The two Phantoms were confused by this. They weren't sure whether to fight or leave, so Danny spoke up.

"So, are you even thinking of attacking us or should we rendezvous later? Preferably never, can we do never instead?" Danny asks.

Both ghosts scowled at him before looking at each other.

"Well, he's buggin' me. Wanna partner up and play his funeral march?" Ember asks.

"You actually said something worth listening to, if only your songs were like that." Skulker remarked.

Ember, despite the hostile look in her eyes, decided to ignore that for now in favor of the two Phantoms.

"Looks like they chose now..." Dani said.

"Figures..." Danny said, eyes and fists glowing.

He fired and sent multiple blasts at his two foes.

Ember dodged by flying back while Skulker fired missiles, taking the hits for him.

As some of them avoided the shots and went right for their targets, Danny and Dani both managed to avoid the attack by flying in separate directions before both fired.

Skulker was hit by both shots, knocking him back and destroying his missile launcher, much to his anger.

"I see that your reflexes are still as good as your aim..." Ember said sarcastically.

"Shut up! Not like you can do any better!" Skulker shouted.

"I can do better than some metal head, just watch!" Ember challenged.

Danny sent them a weird look.

"Seriously? What did you see in each other?" He asks.

"We had a lot in common… like hating you!" Skulker stated.

"… and?" Danny asks.

"And what?" Ember asks.

"Is hating me really it? Because that's like not enough of a reason…"

Ember paused a bit.

"Huh...actually, I don't think we really had much going for us. It's not like opposites attract or he had qualities that I enjoyed..." She admitted.

"Are you seriously admitting he has a point?!" Skulker shouts

Before Ember could realize she was being distracted, Dani flew in and kicked her in the head, making her fall back.

Skulker was distracted as Danny uppercut him, making him fly upward. Once Skulker managed to use his power of flight, he looked down and fired from his wrist blaster. Danny flew away from the shot, bobbing to his left as he flew at Skulker, tackling the armored ghost.

Meanwhile, Ember got back up and attempted to use her guitar before Dani noticed her and avoided the musical blast.

"I don't got time for a kiddie-version of my songs!" Ember stated.

"Don't worry, I can take your lyrics." Dani said.

"If you insist…" Ember said with a sinister grin.

She then used her guitar like a blunt weapon, intending to bludgeon the small girl. She swung overhead, only for Dani Phantom to zip to her right to avoid it.

Ember then swung her guitar sideways, only for Dani to duck in time. Ember tried another swing, only for Dani to jump out of the way and kick her in the face again.

"Ha! And people think motion control games were a dumb idea!" Dani said with a victorious smile.

"Ugh!" Ember wiped her mouth of drool that came out from that blow. "I don't have time for the Dipstick's sidekick!"

"Too bad! And don't call him that!" Dani said as the two continued.

At the same time, Danny managed to right hook Skulker before a fist collided with the metal stomach.

"Seriously, how was she your girlfriend? She's… well, she's that and even without the ugly suit, you're a wad of minty green chewing gum." Danny questioned as he kneed Skulker.

"Okay… that just hurts…" Skulker said bitterly before he raised his arms and a glowing blade extended out the wrist. "But this will sting!" He said as he tried to stab Danny with it.

Danny bobbed to his right, then to his left, before his hand glowed and he created a sword construct, slicing Skulker's arm off.

Skulker gasped in shock.

"Oh please, that wasn't actually your arm!" Danny pointed out.

"No but you have any idea how long or pricy it is to fix this thing?!" Skulker shouted. "Admittedly, I steal most of the parts, but it still takes time! You should count yourself lucky I made spares!"

"Yeah, real lucky. Now hold still!" Danny went.

With that, he used both hands to blast Skulker, pushing him away.

Undaunted, Skulker tried to attack, swinging his other arm, but Danny ducked and uppercut him.

Skulker, getting increasingly angry, tried again, only for Danny to grab the arm in time and swing downward, sending Skulker into the ground and making a small crater.

Doing his best to get up with one arm, Skulker aimed a shoulder rocket and fired.

Thinking fast, Danny flew away from the rocket, only to notice it following him.

"Ha! That's a homing rocket! And to make sure it doesn't confuse you for that mistake my former employer cooked up, it's attuned to your specific readings!" Skulker said victoriously.

Danny didn't pay attention to that, only that Skulker called the girl who went from fake cousin to little sister a mistake.

As such, he made a sharp turn and flew directly as Skulker, the rocket following.

Skulker only scoffed as he fired again, another homing rocket was launched.

Danny made a shot upward as now two rockets followed him.

Thinking fast, Danny made a u-turn, the homing rockets still on his trail as he went straight for Skulker again.

"Ha! This move again?! You're not as clever as I thought!" Skulker said, readying a third rocket.

As if on cue, Danny fired a blast at the rocket, causing it to explode and destroy Skulker's other arm.

As the smoke cleared, Skulker was coughing up from the explosion as he noticed the two rockets were now flying at him.

He then noticed someone's hand phasing through his chest before picking him up. Looking back, he saw it was Danny. Danny only gave a victorious smile, waiting until the rockets were close enough before letting go and phasing into the ground.

"Oh poop…" Skulker went in defeat.

The rockets hit the armored ghost as opposed to their real target.

KABOOM!

The suit was destroyed and Skulker was unseen thanks to the smoke, while his ex-girlfriend did not look impressed.

"Pfft… I knew he'd blow this. He should quit while he's ahead." Ember said.

Suddenly, something flew out of the explosion and bounced on the ground before rolling. It was Skulker's metal head.

"Huh… I guess now's the time to quit." Dani said as she pushed Ember's guitar back from hitting her.

"I said ahead, not a head." Ember stated as she swung it away from the girl.

Dani was about to fight back, but Ember flew around her, going for her intended target.

Skulker escaped the head of his destroyed suit and tried to make a break for it, but Danny fired the Fenton Thermos, entrapping Skulker inside before sealing it.

Seeing an opening, Ember flew it and swung her guitar, knocking Danny away and making him drop the Thermos in the process before she followed.

Dani flew in and grabbed the Thermos, watching and waiting for the chance to strike.

Danny, meanwhile, avoided various swings of the guitar before, after Ember's fifth swing, he fired the blast as she tried to use it for a sixth. She gasped in shock before gritting her teeth and her brow furrowed.

"Lemme guess, it takes a while to get a new one?" Danny questioned in amusement.

"No, I just make them! I just get tired of doing it every time you do that!" Ember shrieked.

"Sheesh, no wonder you two broke up…" Danny mused.

"You're one to talk, over you and the Goth!" Ember points out as the two collide and grab hands, trying to push each other.

"At least we don't hate each other... or chose to date each other over a petty and stupid reason like hating the same person!" Danny said.

"Wow, you're selfish! Telling me how you two are hunky-dory and all that!" Ember snapped.

"I guess it wasn't Skulker's fault you're bitter…" Danny mused.

With that, Ember snarled and kneed him in the stomach, making him lose grip with one hand to clutch his stomach as she used her free hand to push him into the side of a van.

"Danny!" Dani called out as she aimed the Thermos, but found it difficult. "Aww crud… if I shoot, I get him too…" She muttered.

Ember pushed Danny tightly onto the side of the van that was also a booth for selling shawarma. She used her body to push into him slightly as she still gripped his left hand with her gloved right, pushing his chest with her ungloved left.

Danny tried to push her off with a free hand as he saw Dani contemplating shooting the Thermos.

"Get off me!" Danny stated as he used his free hand to signal to Dani, which she noticed.

"Aww… shy around girls? And here I thought the one good things adults should do was something you'd do. Treat a girl right." Ember joked sinisterly.

"Yeah, I don't think you qualify…" Danny responded.

Dani, seeing him raise his hand, nodded. She took a step forward to throw it at him, only for her foot to step on a rock, causing her to slide and fall forward. She quickly hit the ground.

"Seriously?! I can be unaffected by gravity, how did I trip?!" She asks, sounding annoyed. It was then she noticed the Thermos was thrown, but her aim was off. "Uh oh…"

Ember, not seeing it, laughed as she got within inches of Danny's face.

"You're all mine, Baby Pop…" She said in an almost amused manner.

It was then the Thermos hit her upper back, pushing her. That impact caused the distance between their faces, namely their mouths, to disappear.

Their mouths interacted in an unintentional kiss.

Both hero and villainess stared wide-eyed into the other's startled gaze as time froze.

Ember stopped pushing him, stopped squeezing his hand, stopped everything.

Danny stopped trying to free his hand, the other hand moved to try and push her off but stopped as soon as the kiss began.

They didn't even make any sort of noise, they just remained frozen. Neither one even thought of what was happening or who it was happening with. The fact that they were enemies who declared their hate for each other every time they met didn't even register to them.

Only the kiss.

Being the unintentional cause of it, Dani cringed.

"Oh… that is so not how I hoped he'd meet other girls…" She muttered.

It was then people who were hiding started to peek out and see.

"Wait… are they kissing?" One vendor asks.

"Are they… are they in love? They're dating now?" A woman asked.

"Yuck...cooties…" A small child went.

"I knew they'd be a cute couple!" The distinct voice of Dash Baxter was heard saying.

Suddenly, people were coming out and sending Danny their congratulations while the two finally parted, both staring in shock at the other as their mouths hung agape.

"Nice goin'!" Someone went.

"Are you gonna have ghost babies someday!?" Dash Baxter was heard questioning.

"The roof is on fire!" What sounded like Kwan went in a cheer.

The two didn't even notice this or pictures being taken, only what happened.

Danny's face turned red as his eyes seemed to be the size of saucers, as if he was seeing Ember differently.

Ember's did as well before she recalled what just happened. Suddenly, she snarled angrily and slapped Danny with her ungloved hand.

This got a few more reactions from people, thinking it's some kind of lover's quarrel.

"Don't ever mess with me like that again…" She warned before flying off, her fiery ponytail making a trail behind her.

As she flew off, crowds were cheering for Danny, who just looked up in Ember's direction as Dani walked up to him.

"Uh… sorry? My aim was off." She said.

"It's cool…" He said, barely nursing his face as he watched Ember go.

Suddenly, the anger he felt towards her started to disappear completely.

"Uh, you okay?" Dani asks.

"Sure…" He said, a smile starting to form.

"Did you just fall in love with her?" Dani asks, wondering what's going through his mind.

"Yeah, I just- I mean no! No, I did not!" Danny went, turning red with embarrassment this time.

Special thanks to Flower princess11. She gave me the idea of using a diary for Danny, akin to her Stranded series.

And so... it begins. We're going to explore a hero-villain relationship very popular in this show's fanworks.

Meanwhile, an evil is up North. You may have noticed the mentioning of snow, especially last chapter. In terms of when this happens, let's just say around Spring and almost Summer. Why there's snow in the North of that area will be brought up.

Themetavoorhees1996: He does suffer. I was considering it... maybe, it's a huge maybe.

Luiz4200: Since this chapter is rated T, it's lamb testi... uh, you get the idea there.

SuperiorBatman1: Thank you.

Invader Johnny: Each story will have some new characters to flesh out the world. Oh, and it was an attack, not anymore though.

LockAndKey989: I feel like a modern reboot of Danny Phantom would use this to justify status quo... and sadly humans really are that dumb sometimes.

Leonardo: Not sure yet.
