Hi there! Here's chapter 7 of the story. It was a bit difficult to do this one because I didn't really know what to do with Caroline since she barely appeared in the episode, so I did this, I hope that it's good. And also I wanted to thank Wobalo for the reviews, they mean a lot so thank you again! And I will answer them now.
C1: thank you for the kind words. I tried to change Caroline according to what she'd gone through (I'll explore that more), and still make her 'likable'. And I think that no matter how strong you are, you'll still feel some insecurity unconsciously. Also, yes, not only will she call out her brothers, but she will call out anyone she feels the need to, she's still a bit like that.
C2: I like him calling her blondie too, so I kept it like something he'd do, apart from more nicknames (a Damon thing). And for me their bickering is funny to write.
C4: I think Damon's always been impulsive when he gets mad, especially when felling betrayed, and it hurt him to think his sister did it because she's the one that has been for him no matter what. So I tried to show it, more in his villain era. But he'll see past the anger and see his family's value.
And about Tom: In the show Damon used Caroline to create doubts in Elena's mind and turn her against Stefan, which ends in her curious of their past and the reveal of his nature. Here, he couldn't use Caroline since she's their sister and wouldn't play a part in his plan, so I made him fake a call with his "friend that knew of Katherine", to make Bonnie cause Elena's doubts, which leads to the reveal in the end. That's why Caroline said that she didn't know Tom, as he isn't real. Hope that helps! And I'm glad that you're liking the story.
The characters and the plot are property of Julie Plec and the tv show team, I own the characters I created and the changes I made in the story.
Normal POV
It'd been a month since Vicki was a vampire and Stefan with Damon's help was trying to take care of her, who because of Damon knew all three of them were vampires. Caroline had yelled at them, mostly at Damon, for what they had done, and as revenge she decided that the two of them would be Vicki's babysitters, as she would mind her own business.
They were having trouble helping Vicki with the blood, the vampire girl was starving and trying to attack people, so just in case they were keeping a close eye on her to make sure she didn't run away again. Their sister had had to leave town for a couple of weeks for personal things but had promised to help them in her own way if the girl didn't know how to feed right by the time she came back home, and the heretic would be back for Halloween.
Caroline thought that her brothers were irresponsible and hoped they learnt a lesson, although she was having fun. She had to leave to take care of personal matters and to replenish her ingredients, so she had left them in charge of everything and she would step in if Vicki continued to get out of control. She had also been keeping an eye on Elena to see what she was doing.
Meanwhile, Vicki was locked in the boarding house with Stefan, who was trying to help her to control her powers, and Damon who was checking the Gilbert watch Logan had.
-What is it?- Vicki asked while she received a cup from Stefan after saying she was hungry.
-That's what you want- he affirmed after giving her animal blood, he didn't plan to give her human blood.
-Don't lie to the girl. It's not what you want, but it can be useful, right Stef?- Damon replied while he read a diary to see if they had written anything about Logan Fell's death.
-What is it?- the youngest vampire asked again, confused by the looks of the others.
-Yes, what is it? A skunk? A Saint Bernard? Bambi?- asked the oldest one looking at him mockingly.
-Go on, try it- urged Stefan, looking at Vicki and ignoring his brother again.
-She's new, she needs human blood. She won't survive on that- opined the other vampire without looking at him.
-Yeah, I want human blood- nodded the brunette smiling slightly while she drank the blood.
-It's wrong to feed on innocent people Vicki- denied the second vampire looking at her seriously.
-You don't have to kill to feed. Find someone tasty and erase their memory. It's so easy. My wrong little sibling teaches you, you missed out on some girl time- explained Damon to the baby vampire making her laugh a little, but she was happy of not being with the blonde.
-You know that Caroline isn't in town Damon. And there's no guarantee that you can control yourself, it takes years to learn that. You could kill somebody and carry that with you for the rest of your life which, if I haven't been clear, will be eternal- Stefan argued to make her understand the seriousness of the matter.
-Don't listen to him. His moral field is far above us. You understand it, hunt, eat and erase- Damon repeated, not caring about what the vampire said and looked at the girl.
-Hey, look at me- the younger guy asked Vicki- We choose our own path. Our values and actions define who we are- Stefan clarified calmly waiting for her to listen to him.
-Okay Deepak. I'm outta here- Damon declared getting up from the armchair and left the room. The vampire went downstairs to leave the house and found Elena outside, who had gone to visit Stefan to see how Vicki was doing, and he let her in to leave.
-Where is Vicki?- Elena asked as soon as Stefan appeared standing on the stairs.
-She's upstairs- he answered, pointing upstairs and then continued down the stairs towards her.
-What happens now? Because my brother is out there searching for her with the rest of the town. What do I tell him?- she questioned, still trying to come to terms with the whole vampire thing.
-I'm working with her, but it'll take time. She has a volatile and impulsive personality. She's an addict and that's all going to be part of how she responds to this- explained the vampire calmly.
-So she's a vampire with issues? What am I supposed to do? Because I'm lying to everyone I care about. What's gonna happen to her?- the human insisted with curiosity and doubts.
-I'm gonna keep her here with me until I know she's safe- affirmed the older guy, but before the brunette girl could answer something they both heard another voice and looked up.
-When will that be?- asked Vicki, appearing on the stairs and looking at both of them.
-We can talk about it later- the older vampire clarified as he looked at her. He couldn't tell them that if the lessons didn't work, then Caroline would help him with Vicki's situation.
-Hey Vicki, how are you?- greeted Elena trying to seem nice to the older brunette.
-How am I? You're kidding, right?- replied ironic the vampire, while Stefan lowered his head.
For her part, Bonnie had been focusing on learning more about her family and the witchcraft with her grams Sheila who was telling her stories about the witches in her family.
-Was our family burned in the witch trials?- Bonnie wondered curiously that dat at her grandmother's house before leaving for school.
-No, the girls they burned in Salem were totally innocent. You have to have more than ignorance to trap a witch- Sheila told her while she lit candles.
-How did we end up in Mystic Falls?- the youngest girl continued, sitting on the couch.
-Our family fled Salem in 1692 and relocated here. Our ancestors lived in secret for over one hundred years. It's important that we still do- she explained earnestly as she walked across the room to sit next to her.
-Grams, everyone knows you're a witch- reminded her her granddaughter in an amused tone.
-They also know it's absurd, it can't be true. I'm just a crazy woman who teaches occultism at the university. No one really believes and they just make fun of it. Let them do it. Don't let them know the truth- she warned without losing her seriousness, hoping she would listen to her.
-Where's the witchcraft? I mean, you've been telling me stories for two days. I wanna get to the fun part already- asked Bonnie, wanting to get to the magic part soon.
-It doesn't have to be fun. It's real and it's serious. You must understand it before practicing it- denied the older woman, still waiting for Bonnie to start practicing magic- Aren't you late for school?- she reminded her hoping to get it over with at least for the day.
-One more question- she added and saw her grandmother nod- Was there ever another family of witches here or were we the only ones?- she questioned interested while she touched her school bag.
-Some time ago there was another family of witches here, a powerful bloodline that was said to have arrived from Europe in the mid 1500s. But they've hardly been heard from since the mid 1800s. I will tell you more about them another day- she commented while drinking from her cup and Bonnie went to school after saying goodbye. Sheila was talking about the Salvatore bloodline, that only the heretic remained as a known 'active member', but for now her granddaughter couldn't know that.
At the Grill Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood were talking about how they had lost the Gilbert watch and how they should find it, but they were worried that the vampire who'd been attacking the town would have found the watch first, and if the vampire found out it was theirs he would go after them. Luckily Damon had overheard their entire conversation.
Caroline had returned to town from her trip the night before and had decided that she would try to relax a bit and was going to concentrate on the school Halloween dance. It was obvious she was going to help her brothers with their Vicki problem, but at the same time she thought that tonight was a good time to not think and just have fun.
-Hi Bonnie, how are you?- greeted Caroline approaching the girl at her locker.
-Caroline, hey. I didn't know you were back. When did you do it?- greeted the girl as she smiled at the same time. The blonde had left town a couple of weeks ago.
-I got back last night and decided to come to school. Are you going to the dance today? Do you need help with your costume?- she offered the younger witch as she passed the bag with her costume to her other arm.
-I already have it ready, buy thank you. You seem excited- the brunette thanked her for her help, feeling her friend's lively energy a bit contagious.
-How can I not be excited? It's Halloween, which I love, and we can have fun- she commented, happy to be able to do something to distract herself a little- Hey, have you seen Elena? Have you talked to her?- she wanted to know, sometimes she couldn't get away from her research even if she wanted to.
-I was with Grams all weekend, we only talked so she could lend me some accessories that I'll pick up later- she answered a little doubtful, with this thing of being a witch she hadn't paid much attention to her friend- Maybe she's with your brother- she suggested looking at her.
-Yeah, maybe- she affirmed, confirming that the brunette hadn't told her best friend about their secret. Maybe she could trust that she wasn't going to say anything about them.
Elena was keeping Stefan company while he took care of Vicki and told her about the benefits of drinking coffee for vampires. Everything was quiet in the house until Elena told Vicki that she couldn't go near Jeremy being herself a vampire, and the angry older brunette pressed her neck against the wall while she threatened her.
-She threatened me- Elena reproached the vampire outside while touching her neck.
-She's on edge, imagine all of your senses operating at super speed. She's uncomfortable with herself, and if you add her other issues...- he excused her hoping she would calm down.
-And when will she be stable? In hours, days, weeks?- she questioned worried about the answer.
-There's no way of knowing- he clarified with resignation, and saw that Elena seemed to be getting worse.
-And when did you learn to control it?- she continued asking, hoping for something useful about Vicki.
-Later. But I had no one to help me. I had to learn it on my own. Listen, it's hard to resist certain people, especially when you're new. It's difficult to separate feelings. Love, anger, desire, lust, they become one urge. Hunger- Stefan explained seriously.
-What does that mean?- she asked him worried by his explanation and fearing his possible answer.
-That Jeremy can't see her, not now. She might not be able to resist and she could hurt him- warned the vampire while he stared at her.
-Or worse. I can't let her see him- Elena continued with her idea, scared for her brother.
-I won't let anybody get hurt- promised the older one. But Elena just left while she thought she couldn't deal with all that. Besides she had received a message from Bonnie, who came by her house to pick up some accessories that she was going to lend her for the dance that night, among them the strange necklace she found in the Lockwood's garden some time before.
Later that night, Damon tried to take Vicki out to the front yard of the house to teach her to use her new powers since according to him the girl couldn't live locked up and have an eternal pathetic life. But when the oldest vampire tried to teach her how to use her vampire speed, the baby vampire simply ran away from them, again.
Vicki ended up going with her super speed to her house, where Matt who was very relieved and worried greeted her. His sister wouldn't answer any of his questions about the month she disappeared, and when Stefan arrived to try to talk to her, the girl asked him not to let Stefan in, so Matt left him out of the house.
Meanwhile Elena had gotten Jeremy, who was worried trying to talk to Vicki, to agree to go to the Halloween party together, but she hadn't been able to get him to stop thinking about the baby vampire. But what Elena didn't know was that Jeremy agreed to go to the party because he and Vicki had agreed to meet there that night.
At the Grill Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood were having a few drinks before they went to the Halloween party, but Carol wanted to stay to finish so the Mayor went ahead. Damon took advantage of that moment to approach her and try to get some useful information out of her.
-Let me guess, Daisy Buchanan- Damon asked as he sat down across from Carol and she nodded as she smiled at him- I love a good "Gatsby" look- he commented smiling evenly.
-Have we met? Aren't you Caroline Salvatore's brother?- the woman asked, curious since she thought that she had seen him with the blonde at one of the events in town.
-I see that you know one of my siblings. It's my little sister, she can be friendly one second and a control freak the next. Careful with her- joked the vampire to gain her trust.
-You're her brother Damon, aren't you?- the human guessed while she sipped her drink.
-You don't forget my name- Damon flirted with her and he was reciprocated.
-Your face is hard to forget. Are you two related to Zach?- she continued with her questions.
-Yeah, Zach is our uncle. Where do you know Zach from?- he questioned her while trying to use compulsion on her but failing- Sorry, I got something in my eye- apologized pretending to clean his eye and thinking the woman must have vervain on her or in her system.
-Well, I know Zach from the Founder's Council. Did you know the Salvatores were one of the original founders?- she answered while she continued to sip her drink and caught Damon's eye, who saw a bracelet on the woman's wrist, which was probably of vervain.
-Yes, I knew that, but I didn't know Zach was a member. I've just moved back to town, I don't know much about his friends- excused the vampire, hoping to learn more about that Council.
-Will you tell him to return my calls? I've left him several messages- asked him Carol.
-He's out of town for a while. But if it's about the vervain..- he blurted out, getting her attention.
-You know about the vervain?- asked the human surprised by what she heard.
-Yeah, I'm a Salvatore. Of course I do- affirmed Damon with a smile and they toasted together.
Caroline was having fun at the party with her friends and drinking a little, the bad thing was that she'd had to push a slightly intoxicated Tyler away from her several times. Sometimes he flirted with her but the blonde didn't want to date someone from his family, it had been enough with a Lockwood chasing her in 1864 to have to put up with his descendant.
-Caroline, there you are- she heard behind her and when she turned around she saw Stefan approaching.
-Hi Stef, I was going to see you tomorrow but luckily you arrived- she greeted him while smiling- Now you can stop me from living up to my costume and doing something to Tyler- she commented amusingly under her breath, while referring to her purple witch costume with a black hat.
-This isn't time for joking- replied the older guy seriously and she wiped her smile- I lost Vicki and I don't know where she is. Can you help me look for her?- he asked while the heretic looked at him a little incredulous.
-Seriously? Only you guys lose someone over and over again. I told you to help you two before I left but you never listen to me- she reproached him, something that was very valid because she was right.
-I know, now that you're back, can you help me?- he asked hoping that now she would help him with the girl and that she wouldn't want to take revenge for causing her trouble again.
-Of couse. As soon as we find her we'll go straight to the mansion and I'll lock her up until she can feed. Besides I'll help you take care of her- the blonde promised and they walked through the school. At one point Stefan saw Vicki and took her arm and pulled her into a classroom.
-What, are you following me?- questioned Vicki turning around to look Stefan in the face.
-You left me no choice- replied the older vampire without getting upset at her reaction.
-He's right, he could only do this. But you wouldn't even have this option with me- added the heretic that appeared next to her brother, and received an irritated look from the girl who tried to leave- Not so fast- she said appearing quickly in front of the door so she wouldn't leave.
-Let me out of here- ordered the younger vampire trying to seem strong in front of the blonde.
-You shouldn't be here Vicki. With a lot of people it's even more difficult to keep control- explained the older vampire trying to be reasonable and approaching the door as well.
-I'm fine- the youngest one lied, making the blonde look at her in disbelief, but Stefan spoke up.
-Yeah? No headache? Your stomach isn't screaming at you? You don't feel anxious or dizzy or upset like if someone looks at you wrong, you could just rip their head off? You know what that's called? Hunger. It's gonna get worse and worse every minute that you pretend it doesn't control you- he replied staring at her.
-Remember, straight home. I'll go get my bag, I'll meet you outside- Caroline warned looking at Stefan and left the room after receiving a nod from her brother.
Elena arrived at the party separating from Jeremy and met Matt, who revealed to her that his sister had gone to the party, which meant that at any moment she could run into her brother and could hurt him. This made her worry and she went out looking for him.
At the Grill, Damon had gotten Mrs. Lockwood to tell him that Zach was going to give them vervain, but he would do it for him, and tried to find out more about the Council. He also got some information about the vampire search, turns out they were going to eliminate from the suspect list anyone who'd come in daylight at the Founders Party a while back, at times like that he was grateful to have a daylight ring.
Elena was looking for Jeremy when she found Stefan that had Vicki by the arm. The youngest vampire was insisting them to stop bothering her when Matt showed up, so she accused Stefan of stalking her and her brother defended her. Without anyone noticing, Vicki slipped away taking advantage of the distraction, and Stefan and Elena went looking for her.
-Hey, have you seen Stefan or my sister?- asked Damon, who had arrived at the party, to Bonnie. He remembered seeing her with the blonde so he supposed that they were friends.
-What do you want her for? I thought you had a problem- she replied when he approached. Damon gave her the same feeling as his siblings, but it was a little worse than the ones of the younger ones.
-It's a private and family matter, but how loyal you are to my little sister. Are you two friends?- the vampire inquired, amused by the little witch's confident attitude.
-That's none of your business. Just stay away from me, will you?- the girl warned him, hoping that he would go somewhere else, but then the vampire noticed the crystal on her neck.
-Where did you get that?- he demanded to know. He didn't understand how it had ended up in her hands, although he had been locked up for days and he only remembered seeing it at the party.
-From a friend- the witch answered him curtly, she wasn't going to tell him that it was Elena's.
-It was Caroline. You know that's mine, don't you? I want it back- he ordered waiting for her to give it back to him. His sister was the only person who had seen it, so maybe she gave it to her.
-I won't give it to you. I'll only give it back to the one who gave it to me, and if she wants to give it to you that's fine- the younger girl refused and then tried to leave to end the conversation.
-Or I could just take it now- Damon commented like it was nothing trying to take the crystal, but when he touched it he burned his hand and Bonnie ran away scared.
Elena and Stefan were looking for Jeremy and Vicki who were at the back entrance of the school. The brunette girl offered him to be together forever since she couldn't live with Matt being a vampire and started to drink Jeremy's blood after biting his lip and the boy screamed, drawing Elena's attention who hit her with a stick to make her let go of her brother.
Angrily, Vicki grabbed the brunette and threw her against a dumpster when Stefan pushed her against a bus, but out of nowhere the baby vampire disappeared. The older vampire ordered the Gilberts to get inside quickly, but before they could get inside Vicki appeared and pulled Jeremy away to attack Elena by biting her on the neck.
Out of nowhere Vicki released her and grabbed her head, Stefan looked around and a few meters away he saw Caroline hiding with her hand outstretched towards them, she was helping him by giving her an aneurysm. Stefan decided to take advantage of that and approached Vicki staking her, killing her. He then approached Jeremy who seemed unable to move, because of the blonde girl again, and he held him back from approaching Vicki, then he looked around realizing his sister was gone and he called Damon to help him with Vicki.
After the accident with Damon at the party, Bonnie went straight to her grandmother's house and entered without knocking, calling the attention of her grandmother who left the book she was reading and approached her.
-What happened to you?- her grams asked, concerned when she saw the state that she was in.
-I did something. I don't know, it came from my necklace- Bonnie tried to say showing her Elena's necklace.
-Where did you get that?- exclaimed the older witch a little surprised to see the necklace.
-It's part of my costume. It's a piece of junk- affirmed the younger one, not understanding her grandmother.
-That piece of junk belonged to one of the most powerful witches of our family. I will show you- she explained, then walked to the living room to take a book and turned the pages until she stopped at a picture of a young woman- There she is. Emily Bennett, your great-great-great-great-grandmother. And there's your necklace- she pointed to the photo, and Bonnie could see the necklace that was around Emily's neck.
A while after receiving Stefan's call, Damon arrived at the school to find Elena.
-You should go, I'll take care of this- he affirmed while he saw Elena sitting next to Vicki's body.
-You did this. This is your fault- the young girl blamed him angrily as she turned to see him and stood up.
-Do you think I have remorse?- the older guy replied cuttingly, barely looking at her, which made her even more angry so she pushed him without being able to move him. After having no results, Elena tried to hit him in the face but Damon grabbed her wrist in the air and lowered her arm- None of this matters to me. None of it- he remarked with seriousness and staring at her and then let her go.
-People die around you. How could it not matter? It matters, and you know it- the human claimed annoyed and slapped him, making him raise his gaze, which had been lowered. Damon analyzed Elena for a few moments, he could tell she was irritated and slightly scared by his presence, which was understandable considering what had happened.
-You have to leave. Your wounds are bleeding and you have to leave- the vampire declared coldly, pointing at her injuries. They both stared at each other and then Elena left, and Damon crouched down so he could take care of Vicki's corpse.
Elena walked away from Damon and ran into Matt, who asked if she had seen Vicki, which made Elena feel even worse. She then returned home to find Stefan outside, as he had been waiting for her after leaving Jeremy inside. Elena went inside and comforted her brother as he cried inconsolably over Vicki's death.
-Are you okay?- Elena asked Stefan when she left the house after leaving Jeremy in his bedroom.
-I wanted to help her, but instead...- Stefan started to say with sorrow for what had happened and he changed the question- How is he?- he asked, referring to Jeremy.
-He's a mess. I don't want him going through this again, he's just a kid- she commented worriedly.
-Elena, what do you want me to do? How do I help him? I'll do anything you want- offered the older guy seriously. All of it was his fault for having taken bad care of Vicki, for having lost her so many times.
-Can you make him forget?- she pleaded him longingly at remembering the compulsion, at seeing him doubtful she continued- Stefan please, I don't know how he's going to survive. I want him to forget everything that's happened- repeated firmly so that he would understand how much she wanted him to do that.
-If I do it, there's no guarantee that it will work. Because of who I am, because of how I live. I'm not like my siblings, I don't have the ability to do it right- warned the vampire wanting to help her.
-I can do it- they heard Damon talk, who walked towards Elena- If this is what you want, I'll do it- the older one assured, looking at them. The brunette looked between them until she looked at Damon.
-It's what I want- repeated the youngest one, turning to Stefan for a moment.
-What do you want him to know?- asked the older vampire looking at her with intensity.
-I want you to tell him that Vicki is gone, and will never come back, that he shouldn't look for her or worry. He's gonna miss her, but he knows it's for the best- explained Elena confidently and Damon got in the house. Then the brunette sat down next to Stefan- Part of me wishes that I could forget too. Forget meeting you, finding out what you are and everything that has happened until today- she confessed without looking at him and leaving him surprised. But at the same time doubtful and a memory crossed his mind.
-Is that what you want?- asked her the vampire in pain, remembering his talk with Caroline a month ago, and he could clearly hear the heretic's plan: "The plan is to erase Elena's memory and stop her from suspecting you. I'll leave her like she was before the doubts started and everything will be fine".He had hated that idea at first and didn't want his sister to hurt Elena. But the situation was different if the brunette wanted to forget him.
-Yes, it is. Because I don't want it to be like this, I don't want to feel like this- the brunette told him, and the older one was about to tell her that maybe she could do it, but she continued- But no. With everything that's happened, I don't want to lose what I feel for you- Elena confessed, staring at Stefan with intensity for moments, and they heard the door.
-It's done- Damon affirmed, and Elena, after looking at both of them, stood up and went into her house.
Caroline had returned home after the whole Vicki thing. She felt bad and a little guilty about what had happened, she should've insisted more to help them before her trip and not wait for everything to get worse, to have trusted that voice that told her to stay. But at the same time she couldn't stay since she had to buy ingredients and take care of some things.
-If only I could have stayed in town. Or if my brothers had listened to me instead of ignoring me again, maybe this wouldn't have happened- she blamed herself in a low tone while she went to her study to finish what she'd brought the night before.
After putting on her pajamas she lay down to sleep a little tired for what'd happened, although deep down she liked to have some action. But something made her believe that she would never have a quiet day again, especially considering that her brothers were living in town again, and that they were also involved with the copy of their ex that surely would bring trouble to all of them.
And that's all for today! Like I said before, it was a bit hard to come up with what to do with Caroline and keep the plot like the original, so I just made her leave town for a little while, she just needed some things for her witchy activities. Hope it was good and understandable. And also I wanted to thank the responses that I'm having, all of them are welcome!
P.S: I left a few details about the Salvatore family that I'll repeat just in case. They are from Europe, exactly Italy like Stefan said, and came to the US in the 1500s. But in 1800s the only witch left of the family was Caroline since her grandmother had died, later I'll explain why their descendants like Zach weren't witches. And also I put that Caroline had a Lockwood suitor in 1864, I liked doing that and it will be explained as well what really happened there. Feel free to leave me any response if you want, and here's the summary. See you later!
Chapter 8 - 164 Candles:
Stefan celebrates his birthday and receives the surprise visit of his best friend Lexi. Meanwhile, Caroline receives unexpected warnings from Damon, who hopes to get her help in retrieving something valuable. After that accident on Halloween, Elena tries to get away from Stefan.
