Hello there! Here's a new chapter! I think this was one of the episodes it was harder for me to rewrite because of some things, one of them being Lexi since she's one of my favourite characters and I hated what happened, and for that thing I have a little clarification in the end.

Also, I changed the original episode's title (162 candles) since A: the title was wrong because Stefan couldn't turn 162 in 2009 if he was born in 1846, but he was a year older. And B: because in my story Caroline was born in 1846 and Stefan in 1845, so he turns 164 in 2009. I wanted to thank for the responses I got, feel free to leave any response you want. Enjoy it!

The characters and the plot are property of Julie Plec and the tv show team, I own the characters I created and the changes I made in the story.

Normal POV

Stefan was sleeping on the couch in the living room of the mansion when he woke up because his book he was reading fell off his lap, so he picked it up, but then he heard a noise and thought it was Damon. He got up to check around the room, another noise was heard and he ended up on the floor as he was attacked by a vampire.

-Lexi?!- he asked surprised to see the vampiric face of his best friend Lexi.

-Hi- greeted the girl after she returned to her normal face and helped him up.

-What are you doing here?- the vampire wanted to know while smiling excitedly.

-How could you even ask that?- she asked him while they hugged. It had to be obvious to him and his siblings that she was going to show up to visit him that day.

-I missed you- Stefan affirmed and they parted. He was happy to see her, and remembered why she was there.

-Happy birthday- Lexi congratulated him with a smile and they hugged again. Later they both went to Stefan's room, they were lying there laughing while he told her everything that had happened during that time in the town and with his siblings.

-Stop, I don't know. If some freak shot at me with wooden bullets, I'd leave immediately. And why is a news reporter hunting vampires?- Lexi commented while they laughed on the bed.

-I don't know who knows about us. That man did, there could be others. Hey, do me a favor, while you're here, be careful- asked Stefan with a bit of seriousness.

-Why do you stay? I'm going to New York for the weekend. Bon Jovi in the Garden. "Wanted Dead or Alive". It's our song, it's gonna be the best- she told him excitedly as she stood up.

-Do you think he would remember us? That was a pretty crazy weekend- Stefan remembered.

-We can make him remember us. Come on! I mean, what's keeping you here?- asked his friend wanting to know the reason for his stay as she walked around the room.

-I told you, her name is Elena- he reminded her sat on the bed, watching her take a picture.

-Let's hope she's better than your past affair. Although you have a very good bodyguard besides me- the blonde replied teasingly showing him Katherine's picture.

-I think with Caroline alone I'm already well covered. And you didn't even know Katherine- clarified the vampire walking towards her and taking the picture back to leave it where it was.

-Otherwise I would have kicked her ass, little bitch. By the way, where's Damon?- Lexi asked.

-Spreading misery somewhere. Hey, what are you gonna do now? If you want I can give you Caroline's address, so you won't be alone too much since I have things to do- offered her Stefan. Lexi and Caroline had become friends because they were friends, the vampire girl was one of the few people who knew the true nature of the heretic and they liked each other very much.

-I'd love to see her, we haven't seen each other in a while. I can take advantage of my daylight ring and go to her house- accepted the blonde showing him the daylight ring that the heretic gave her decades ago.

-Sure, here you have. Hey Lex, I'm really glad you came- commented the vampire smiling at seeing her again and gave her a piece of paper with his sister's address.

-And what are we doing for your birthday? It's not every day someone turns 164 years old- Lexi wanted to know making him smile at her insistence to celebrate, but he loved that she was there.

At the police station the Gilbert siblings along with Matt and Stefan were questioned about Vicki's disappearance, but in the end they got nothing as they all said that they believed she had left town and Jeremy said what Damon forced him to believe. Stefan had tried to speak with the brunette but she felt bad about lying and just wanted the guy away from her.

After an annoying encounter with Damon, in which she reminded him that she was older than him and therefore stronger and warned him not to ruin her time with Stefan, Lexi left the mansion to visit her other friend. When she arrived and corroborated the address she walked up to the door and rang the doorbell, and within seconds her blonde friend opened.

-Oh my God, Lexi!- Caroline exclaimed excitedly as soon as she saw the blonde vampire and got near her hugging her, an act that was reciprocated by the other girl.

-Caroline, I missed you so much- she affirmed as soon as they separated and the heretic took her inside the house, leading her to the living room and directly to the couch to sit down.

-I missed you a lot too, I can't believe that you're here. I should have thought you'd come to see Stefan for his birthday- she admitted since the older blonde always visited her older brother on that day.

-Yeah. Now he was a little busy so I took the opportunity to see you- she told her while she smiled. She had missed her friend, the heretic knew how to have fun as a vampire.

-I'm sure he's busy with Elena. I guess he already told you about her and what happened here in town- the younger girl guessed while she became a little serious when she mentioned the brunette that her brother liked, which didn't go unnoticed by her friend.

-You know that girl. Can you tell me something about her?- Lexi asked her. She wanted to know who the younger vampire was seeing. She and the heretic almost always had similar opinions, so if she liked her, it was almost certain that Lexi did too.

-Well, Elena is a good person. I have reasons for not liking her very much, but I know that when you see her you're going to be very surprised- the younger girl hinted, staring at her. Lexi knew about Katherine and had seen pictures of her, so she was going to end up speechless when she saw her.

-You have reasons to dislike her and I'm going to be surprised. Don't cause me so much intrigue- she jokingly claimed giving her a friendly shove on the shoulder while they laughed. Then they stopped and got something to drink to catch up after years of not seeing each other.

Bonnie was leaving her grams's house, she'd stayed over after the incident with the necklace. Her grandmother had made it clear to her that she couldn't give it back to Elena, as it used to belong to her ancestor Emily and now it was hers, and besides no one else could use it because the crystal had found and protected her, so she shouldn't give it to anyone.

Damon visited Sheriff Forbes to give her some of Zach's vervain, making it appear that his nephew had asked him to take it to them. He took that moment to find out how the vampire search was going, and she told him that they were going to consider the idea that maybe they could go out in the daytime, so they would be suspicious of the people who came in town since the attacks started. And Damon had to come up with an idea to protect himself and his siblings.

Bonnie had gone to visit Elena since she hadn't seen her in so long, she had decided to tell her best friend that she was a witch, and the girl seemed to need something to distract her from the fact that Stefan and her were over and she felt bad. She decided to confess to her what she was by ripping one of Elena's pillows and she magically levitated the feathers.

Caroline had dropped Lexi off at the Salvatore mansion and was heading to the Grill to get something to eat, but then she came across Damon outside the place, giving her a bad feeling.

-Hi Damon, how are you?- she asked smiling, although her brother was very serious.

-Avoid the whole innocent girl act. Why did you give my crystal to Bonnie?- he accused her instantly, he was determined to get answers from the heretic.

-Excuse me? I didn't give Bonnie anything, I spent days thinking about where it was- the blonde replied irritated, erasing her smile, he was accusing her of something that she hadn't done again.

-You had nothing to do with it? But how did it end up with Bonnie?- the older one wondered confused, he thought of it but didn't understand it, he thought that the blonde girl had given it to her.

-I don't know, but it makes sense that Bonnie would have it, she's a witch. So good luck at getting it back- she said. Now the necklace was in the right hands, it was meant to be with a witch and she wasn't going to get involved in that matter, but her brother had other plans.

-In fact, you're gonna get it for me. And before you refuse, look- he ordered her firmly while he pulled out his phone and showed her a picture of her stock of blood bags.

-Those are my blood reserves? How did you take pictures of them?- the blonde girl demanded to know in a very surprised and puzzled voice, not understanding how he had done that.

-Yeah. It turns out that the day I snapped your neck, it wasn't just because I was mad that you met with Stefan, but because I got myself an insurance in case you didn't want to help me- he revealed the rest of his plan, he knew he was going to have to use it at some point.

-What the hell are you planning, Damon?- she claimed worried about his warning, she was really angry with her brother and wanted to break every part of his body.

-If you don't get me the necklace I'm going to show this to the police, along with a story that you threatened Stefan and me not to reveal your secret- he finished telling her his idea, he wasn't really gonna turn her in but he told her that to motivate her to get it. He knew there was a high probability that the blonde would want to kill him, but he needed that necklace.

-Are you willing to give me up for the crystal?- questioned him hurt. She couldn't believe that her own brother, whom she always protected, wanted to turn her in for something that didn't belong to him.

-I need that necklace Caroline. And even if it hurts me, I want it back one way or another. When you give it back to me, I'll delete the pictures- Damon sentenced and, after receiving an annoyed and hurt look from his baby sister, he walked away from her uncomfortably.

Back at the mansion, Lexi assured Stefan that Elena would soon want to be with him again, while he told her that if they got back together then he wanted it to be by the brunette's own choice, no tricks. Their conversation was interrupted when Lexi pulled out a blood bag to feed on and told her friend that she was envious of his self control. After a while Damon arrived and told them about a party that night at the Grill that they should attend and Lexi convinced Stefan to go and have some fun for his birthday.

Lexi had gotten out of the shower to get ready for the party, she was trying to calm Stefan who didn't think that it was a good idea because his brother was inviting them, but she managed to convince him to enjoy a little bit with her since that was the only day she had him all to herself and the guy agreed and then went to take a shower. Then Elena arrived and found the blonde in a towel and after an awkward introduction she left, leaving the older vampire shocked at her appearance and quickly went to question her friend.

-You have some serious emotional damage- Lexi affirmed while she applied her makeup.

-No, it's not what you think. She's not Katherine- Stefan tried to convince her friend.

-They must be related, they look like twins. Now I get why Caroline said I'd be surprised to see her, and maybe that's why she doesn't like her. 'Cause she's a copy, and maybe a relative, of your ex- suggested the older one, looking at herself in the mirror and thinking that her heretic friend was right.

-I think she doesn't like her because they never got along very well and she heard her call her a "flirt" in other words. And about them being family, I don't know- he told her as he sat down next to her.

-No wonder she doesn't like her. Caroline only had about 4 official boyfriends, and I think she was with one of them for several years. But you really don't know? Or you didn't find out?- she questioned incredulously, staring at him.

-No. Maybe I don't want to know. I don't want to tie Elena with Katherine- Stefan denied, but at seeing the look on Lexi's face he continued- Ok yes. Their resemblance is what drew me in, that's all. Katherine and Elena only look alike on the outside, but on the inside they are completely different- he said confidently.

-Oh, so she's not a crazy bitch?- the blonde inquired, while looking at him for a moment.

-No, Elena is, she's warm, and she's kind, and she's caring and she's selfless and it's real. And honestly when I'm with her, I completely forget what I am- the guy told her in a soft tone.

-Oh my God. You're in love with her- affirmed his friend, surprised by his statement, looking at him for a moment with a smile that her friend reciprocated when he thought of the brunette.

-Yeah, yeah I am- he assured her smiling with illusion, something that Lexi was very pleased to see.

Later, Caroline was at the Grill looking around when she saw Damon at the bar and he motioned for her to come over, so resignedly she walked towards him.

-Damon. Are you looking for someone to torment besides me?- she greeted him, smiling falsely.

-No, I'm here to enjoy the party while you get my necklace back- he commented, looking at her seriously.

-You're lucky I don't hurt you. It wouldn't cost me much to put you to sleep and free myself from your idiocies for a while- she warned with irritation erasing her smile and he looked at her fixedly.

-You know what to do so I don't bother you. Get me my crystal- the vampire reminded her and before she could talk, he left her alone at seeing Lexi enter the Grill- Where is my brother?- he asked the older blonde as soon as he was in front of her.

-He said that he'd meet me here- Lexi replied. Damon was about to buy her a drink when the vampire left him alone and approached her heretic friend- Everything okay Care?- she wanted to know when she saw her down.

-I want to crush Damon- she muttered irritated while she took her drink in one gulp.

Before leaving for the party, Stefan went to visit Elena to talk about her visit. The brunette thought that he was with Lexi, but the vampire clarified they were just best friends and that Lexi was a 350-year-old vampire. Stefan tried to find out why she had gone to see him, but Elena clarified she couldn't talk to him or to anyone else of her problems and that it bothered her to be keeping so many secrets. Before leaving, Stefan revealed to her that that day was his birthday.

Caroline approached Bonnie pretending that the crystal was hers and asked for it back, but she didn't believe her and told her it was Elena's. The heretic insisted a little more for her to give it back, and when she tried to touch it to pretend to accommodate it, it electrocuted her. Then when Bonnie moved away from her the older one tried to use her magic to detach it from her neck and take it, but it seemed that it had no effect.

-Where is my necklace?- she heard behind her back, and rolling her eyes she turned around.

-Bonnie won't give it to me and I couldn't get it from her with my magic- she explained to Damon hoping he'd stop threatening her- Do you want me to siphon the power of the necklace?- she asked doubtfully.

-Of course not, I need it with magic- he rejected her idea, as if it was an idiocy on her part, and continued- Take it from her neck- he pointed out the most obvious way for her to keep trying.

-I tried but the necklace burned my hand- the blonde girl replied irritated, crossing her arms, she was mad because he was forcing her to do something she didn't want to do.

-Damn it. Why does it do that? I need that crystal so keep trying- he ordered her again. He believed that she, being a witch, would get it but he couldn't believe she couldn't.

-Why are you like this with me? I'm your sister, I do what I can to help and protect you no matter how selfish and idiotic you are, but you don't care about hurting me for a stupid crystal that isn't yours- she complained frustrated by his attitude wanting to break his neck non stop.

-Well, you're paranoid, shallow and useless. I thought that for your weird nature you'd be of some use to me but it seems you're not, you just think you're the big deal again- he insulted her and walked away. A few tears started to appear in Caroline's eyes so she went to the bathroom to clean herself.

The older vampire, uncomfortable about what he'd said to his little sister, heard a noise outside the Grill and decided to follow it finding a boy and a girl kissing, then Damon attacked them biting the first one and looked at the girl in the eyes to compel her.

Later, outside the Grill a cop was patrolling when he found the girl who Damon had attacked and she was near the boy's body in a pool of blood.

Lexi had gone to the bar to get some drinks and saw that Elena was there, so the human had decided to go. Seeing the opportunity the blonde approached her offering her a glass.

-I've never seen Stefan drunk, he's always so...- Elena laughed when she saw Lexi drinking.

-Uptight?- the vampire completed, smiling slightly at her.

-But not with you- she clarified, staring at her. The girl seemed to cheer Stefan up a lot.

-Well, that's the benefit of knowing someone for over a hundred years. You just get to be yourself- admitted the blonde as she thought of how her friend was before when they had just met.

-Yeah, he can't be himself with me- said the brunette girl, a little depressed at the thought that she didn't know the guy.

-Not yet. The first step was to tell you, the rest comes with time- she explained calmly to her so that she would think a little about her relationship with Stefan, since she knew that she loved him.

-You seem so sure- Elena declared firmly and curiously.

-The love of my life was human. He went through what I think you're going through: denial, anger, etc. But at the end of the day, love did conquer all- Lexi told her, smiling slightly at the thought of her story- Are you going to drink that?- she asked, pointing to the drink in Elena's hand.

-No, please- the human offered it to her smiling and saw her drink it- I'm scared- revealed erasing her smile. She felt that she could trust Stefan's friend, she was friendly.

-But you're here, 'cause you're crazy about him. I get it ok? I mean, what's not to love?- she admitted while looking at Stefan smiling and looked at her again- Listen, take it from someone who has lived a long time. When it's real, you can't walk away- she advised, staring at her and then walked over to Stefan.

-Hey Lexi, it was nice to meet you- Elena admitted smiling evenly at her, and laughed at seeing Lexi drink her third glass to turn around and walk back to her friend.

-Thank you- Stefan thanked, looking with a smile at his friend, who smiled back in return.

-You weren't supposed to be listening. I was feeling epic, whatever- clarified the older one going back to play.

After tearing because of the terrible brother that she had and drinking a lot, taking advantage of both her high alcohol tolerance at being a vampire and her compulsion, Caroline ended up a little dizzy, stumbling into a table where her friend Matt was with another guy.

-Did you drink?- her friend asked her jokingly, but the girl seemed to feel bad.

-Well, a friendly but not very handsome bartender was nice to me, unlike the rest of the world. What are those?- she asked while pointing to a tray. Even though she had been drinking she knew that she couldn't talk about how she got things.

-A coffee for the drunk girl- asked the guy to his friend who stood up and left, then turned to his friend who sat down next to him- Bad night?- he asked while looking at her with humor.

-A very bad one indeed. I want you to tell me something Matt, am I shallow and useless?- she inquired suddenly, still a little depressed, puzzling her friend.

-What do you mean, Caroline?- he questioned confused, not understanding what was wrong with his friend.

-I don't think I am, but if I am I'm sorry- she apologized while she looked him in the eyes slightly, it seemed that at any moment she was going to tear again.

-You're not shallow. You're friendly, smart and funny- Matt tried to comfort her. He couldn't believe that someone had said something like that to her, he thought she was a very nice person.

-I wanna go home- she said in a muffled and shy voice, she seemed very down.

-Sure, I'll take you. You'll be fine- said the human as they stood up and came across Stefan who looked surprised at his little sister, who seemed sad and downhearted.

-Caroline, what happened? Are you ok?- asked the older one worriedly looking at her.

-She was drinking a little too much- explained Matt, suprising the vampire who stared at her.

-What? Caroline, really? Have you been drinking?- her brother asked her irritated.

-A lot bro, but not like that time when we were partying with Lexi in New York- the girl whispered the last part- At least one of you care about me, you're so nice to me- she continued saying, and Stefan couldn't help thinking that Damon had hurt her again.

-You drank because you fought with Damon, didn't you? Tomorrow you can make it all up, but now I will take you home so I can keep an eye on you- Stefan assured her, looking at her sternly.

-I can take her Stefan, I was leaving and I haven't been drinking- Matt offered to his surprise.

-I don't mind Matt, but thanks- Stefan refused, but at the human's insistence and seeing his friend playing he gave up- Ok, thank you really Matt. And Caroline, tomorrow I'll visit you and we will talk about this over a strong coffee, is that clear?- warned Stefan for her to behave herself.

-Like water Stef, don't worry and party. Say hi to Lexi, and don't call me because I turned my phone off, okay? I may have several messages- the blonde said goodbye. She headed for the exit but almost slipped and Matt picked her up in his arms. Not knowing she had messages from her spy at the police.

Lexi had gone to the bar where Damon was to try to get the reason for his staying in town out of him, then Sheriff Forbes came in with the injured girl and told her to point out who'd attacked her. The young girl following her order pointed to Damon and Lexi, so the sheriff walked towards them both and injected the blonde girl with vervain, the younger vampire pretended not understanding what was going on, but the sheriff thanked him for the vervain and took the blonde away.

Stefan saw what had happened and went out to try to save his friend, with Elena following him outside. The cops were trying to take Lexi away but she threw them away and letting out her fangs she went to the sheriff who shot wooden bullets at her, but they didn't do anything to her since she was too strong, then Damon appeared out of nowhere and staked her in the chest.

-Oh my God- Stefan blurted out witnessing at everything bewildered while he held Elena, who was also watching everything, covering her mouth so she wouldn't scream.

-Why?- Lexi hurt asked Damon in a whisper.

-It's part of the plan- he also whispered while the blonde vampire fell to the ground dead. Then the guy turned to the sheriff on the floor- Are you okay?- he asked her.

-Thank you, get her in the car quickly- thanked the sheriff as she stood up and Damon put Lexi's body in the car, but without the woman noticing he took Lexi's daylight ring.

After arresting the bartender for not asking for IDs, the sheriff talked to Damon abou how the vampire nightmare was over thanks to that witness and also thanked him for saving her. Everything had gone according to the older vampire's plan.

Matt took Caroline to her house, directed her to her room and laid her down putting a blanket over her.

-You gonna be okay?- Matt asked her, a little calmer now that she seemed a little better.

-Yeah, I've been through worse. Have you ever felt alone in the world? Or that there's no one who understands or appreciates you?- the heretic tried to ask him, bringing up some of her frustrations.

-What do you mean?- the human tried to know, looking at her curiously.

-Sometimes I miss my friends, I miss how my life used to be- she confessed melancholy. There were times when she missed having her friends, they understood her and she hoped to see them soon.

-Life can be rough, things will change- he commented trying to cheer her up.

-I wish life was different- the blonde admitted thoughtfully at the end.

-Yeah, me too- nodded Matt and then turned around to go home.

-Wait, don't leave me alone- asked Caroline softly. Matt hesitated for a few moments, but then moved a little and lay down on the bed next to Caroline.

After the cops and Damon left the Grill, Stefan and Elena were leaving the Grill as well. Stefan was walking ahead furious and horrified by what he had seen.

-Stefan! Stefan!- Elena called him running after him and he turned around.

-He killed her! He killed Zach, he killed Tanner, he turned Vicki. I have to kill him- he exclaimed very angry for what his brother had done, Damon had crossed the limits this time.

-No, you can't do that!- replied the brunette worried about the older guy's emotional state.

-Why are you trying to save him?! Elena, he's never gonna change. Don't you see that?! He's never gonna change!- he claimed annoyed and upset since he didn't understand what the girl was saying.

-I'm not trying to save him, I'm trying to save you. You have no idea what this will do to you- she declared, trying to get him to listen to her and calm down enough to give up his idea of murder.

-Wherever I've been, pain and death follows me. Damon follows me. No more- the vampire clarified seriously trying to leave again, but she stopped him again.

-Stefan please, please just talk to me. Let me be here for you. Talk to me- Elena pleaded him nervously and still worried about him while touching his arm, but he let go.

-No. You were right to stay away from me- Stefan sadly admitted, looking at her for a moment and then turning to leave, thinking that everything was going terribly.

Back at the mansion Damon was drinking and thinking about how well his plan had gone. He was upset that he had killed Lexi, but with this they weren't going to suspect of him and his siblings, although now both of them were furious with him, especially Stefan who arrived at the house at that moment.

-Told you I'd take care of it- he greeted him as soon as he saw him, but Stefan approaching him using his vampire speed and hit him, then threw him against the floor. The younger one punched him in the face a few times until Damon pushed him away, but then he stood up and held Damon against the wall- Come on, I did this for us and for Caroline. To get them off our trail- claimed the vampire to try to reason with him and get him to listen to his reasons for what he had done.

-You never do anything for anyone but yourself- Stefan accused angrily while he staked him in the stomach still without releasing his grip on him.

-You missed!- replied his brother, a little disconcerted by his younger brother's action.

-No. You saved my life and I spare yours. We're even. And now we're done- he assured after driving the stake deeper as he released him and walked away. Damon fell to the ground and pulled the stake out of his stomach while he thought about the consequences of his plans.

That night, Bonnie was unable to sleep since she was having a nightmare. She was running through the woods until she came to the ruins of what looked like a church. Confused, she turned around and found herself face to face with her ancestor Emily.

-It's coming- she heard Emily say, and then she woke up in the forest in those ruins.

And that's all! I hoped that you enjoyed it, and that everything's fine. I wanted to give a few explanations about what I did.

I love Lexi a lot, she's one of my favourite characters as I said before. I was until last minute thinking about how to do this part specifically, what to do later and this is the result. A part of me wanted to let her alive, but I had already changed some things in the 1st season (I change a lot more in the next seasons that I'm already planning), and some things happened for her death. Also I didn't really know how to do the plot with her alive, if things would change that much for her life. In exchange I'm thinking about some future things for her, I already have a few ideas of scenes for her.

Second, the Damon-Caroline scenes were a bit hard too since I didn't know what to do. I left him being evil and cruel with her during his villain era, but don't worry that he knows his sister isn't one to mess with for much time, since sometimes she likes to get even (it's a part of what she is now hahaha). And that's it, I leave you with the summary for next part. Leave the answer that you want, see you!

Chapter 9 - History Repeating:

Stefan tries to approach Damon to find out his reasons for staying in Mystic Falls, and Damon reveals something really important. Caroline tries to help Elena and Bonnie in a weird seance, that ends up unexpectedly for everyone.
