Hey everyone! Here I am again with a new chapter for you! I can't believe that I am in chapter 15, the end is coming (spoiler: it'll be dramatic hahah). Thanks for the views, I really appreciate that. You can leave me what you want, a like or review, everything is welcome and thanked. And don't forget that I have an instagram account for my stories, it's @iceduchess26.
And ElzaSniegs thank you so so much for your review, it's beautiful! Respecting the 'favourite' I may have an idea of what your ideas are, and I'll say two things about it: 1 is that I'll write what happened there and I will leave most of it clear, 2 is that it'll be a little dramatic since I like good drama, but it's worth it. Season 2 is coming, and with it comes more drama, things will get spicy and shocking, that's all I'll say hahah.
And thanks for the words for the last part, first I didn't fully know how to change that adding more Caroline, and not write all her scenes just with Matt (hope it's clear how channel works in my world), for the scene where Caroline realizes she's being used I got inspiration by Bonnie and Luka (witch boy) in season 2 episode 10. Again thanks for the words, enjoy this!
The characters and the plot are property of Julie Plec and the tv show team, I own the characters I created and the changes I made in the story.
Normal POV
There was a man walking through the woods near the ruins of the church, at one point he came across another man who asked him what year it was, to which he said it was 2010. The first one asked him the name, which was Harper, as he seemed strange to him. Harper, being polite and apologizing for what he was about to do, revealing he was a vampire bit the man's neck killing him. Then he put on his clothes and continued walking in the woods.
A few days after the spell on the tomb, Caroline went to the mansion to talk to her brothers, especially to Damon. When she arrived Stefan, who had told her everything, opened the door.
-Go, I'll handle it. Maybe I'd better talk to Damon since I'm not related to this Katherine thing- Caroline suggested at the door with Stefan, knowing she was right.
-Fine, but just in case be careful- the older one agreed, hesitant to leave them alone.
-Don't worry, I can take care of myself from him- affirmed while Stefan nodded and went upstairs. She went to the living room finding Damon in front of the fireplace- Hey Damon- she greeted him from the entrance.
-Hi Caroline. I guess Stefan told you what happened with Katherine and the tomb, so I'll spare you the story. What I can say is that love is awful- he murmured, barely turning his head towards her. Caroline sighed and walked to stand a little closer to him.
-Love isn't awful. Love can be something warm, special and inspiring with the right one, but you have to be careful who you share it with- explained the heretic standing in the room.
-Please don't tell me that you believe in that stupid thing of the right person for one- replied the older man looking at her tired from her speech, not wanting to listen to something like that now.
-Yes, I do. Consider me a hopeless romantic if you want, but I think that love can be a strong thing with the perfect person for you- exclaimed the heretic, feeling a little hurt by the way Damon looked. He seemed as if his heart had been crushed and he wanted to stop thinking.
-The problem is that I thought Katherine was that person, and I ended up getting hurt, so I think that destiny thing is kinda useless- he confessed with a depressed tone, more relaxed with her presence.
-Well, I don't see it that way. I believe that Katherine came into your life to teach you a lesson and to set everything in motion. But someone will come along for you- the girl affirmed, softening her gaze and tone.
-I guess you know more about love than what I thought, little sis. Have you ever been in love?- Damon asked with curiosity after a few moments of silence. For that speech she seemed confident about love and he didn't remember knowing much about her love life.
-Yes, a long time ago. It was a special and unique love. It was everything I had wanted, he was very important for me. But sometimes things come to an end- admitted the blonde girl turning serious for a moment, unable to avoid a slight melancholy in her tone at the thought.
-You'd never told me about that before. What happened between you two?- he inquired interested in it, puzzling a bit when at noticing her nostalgic. He couldn't remember seeing her like that for a long time.
-Because it's something hard to talk about. Let's say that the universe or whatever got us apart and I never saw him again. What matter is that I still see love as a good thing. Don't close yourself off to love Damon, the right one will come into your life at some point. And I'll be here, either to take care of you or to make sure I like her- clarified the younger girl smiling a bit, then she sat down next to him and rubbed his back to comfort him while she leaned on his shoulder.
-Thank you little witch, you do know what to say- the older one thanked smiling and leaned his head on hers.
Several days had passed since Sheila Bennett's death and Bonnie had left town to distance herself a bit, while Elena called her every now and then to see how she was doing. Thanks to Jenna the brunette girl had gotten information of her birth mother Isobel with a picture, even the address of an old friend of hers. She had also told her that Mr. Saltzman's ex-wife was also called Isobel, so there was a possibility that they were the same person.
Elena had discussed all of that with her boyfriend Stefan, who believed that the coincidence would be too big and stated that if she decided to go to visit Isobel's friend, he then wanted to accompany her. But the vampire couldn't stay with her any longer because he had to keep an eye on Damon, who was handling his emotions in his own way and with Caroline they were trying to cheer him up. When he returned home he found Damon drinking blood from compelled college girls and alcohol.
-You're worried about me, that's nice. Don't be, there's no need, I'm better after talking to blondie, although she sounded very spiritual at some point. But why wouldn't I be fine? I spent the last 145 years with one goal: to get into that tomb. I succeeded. Okay, Katherine wasn't in there to be rescued, but why dwell? You know, it's so liberating not having a master plan, because I can do whatever the hell I want- Damon commented after walking away from the girls with a bottle of alcohol in his hand, a little tipsy from all the drinking he had done.
-That's kind of what I'm afraid of- Stefan clarified, leaning against a table in the library.
-Relax. I haven't killed anyone in...too long- he affirmed near the younger one with a relaxed voice.
-Those girls?- he questioned, nodding at the girls lying on the couches.
-They'll end up in their dorms with headaches, think they blacked out. Business as usual. Predictable you didn't pull me over here for a pep talk. So drink up- Damon blurted out as he handed him the bottle- Spill it, brother- he said, Stefan put the bottle on the table.
-There was a woman you may have met a few years back named Isobel in North Carolina at Duke- explained the vampire, staring at him seriously so that he understood the importance of the subject.
-Do you wanna discuss the women in my past right now? Seriously?- he asked curious about what he said.
-You killed her- he affirmed as he listened to him, thinking that it was very possible that he had done that.
-What's your point?- questioned the older one, frowning in confusion and some suspicion.
-I just, just wanna know if you remember anything about her- admitted the younger one, barely looking at him, not knowing if it was a good idea to tell him of the possible connection between the woman and Elena.
-Oh, it's like a needle in a haystack Stefan- the vampire hinted, shaking his head a little.
-Well, think hard. It's important- he revealed, waiting for an answer. After looking at him for a few seconds Damon took one of Stefan's shoulders and got near his ear.
-Nothing is important, not anymore- he whispered relaxed, patted his shoulder and walked away taking the bottle from Stefan's hand- Great chat. I have to go and exploit some women in the name of pain, which I'm sure that you understand- he added smirking a little as he walked away from him.
Caroline on the other hand was at Matt's house, they were watching a movie when they decided to take advantage of having the house to themselves and started kissing. They were lying on the couch with the boy on top of her and neither had their shirts on when they were interrupted by Matt's mother. Matt covered Caroline while she was embarrassed. After a weird introduction since she didn't know Mrs. Donovan, the heretic left to leave them alone. After talking a bit Kelly, Matt's mother, decided to ask him about the blonde girl.
-So the blonde is the new flavor of the month? Sorry if I scared her off- asked the older woman curious while she thought about the girl that she'd seen with her son when she came in.
-She's not a flavor mom. I like her- Matt defended his girlfriend, not liking her criticism.
-So she's the one?- she wanted to know, expecting a negative answer.
-No, I don't think so, but maybe- the boy tried to explain as he was cooking breakfast.
-But who is she? No one important if I don't know her- Kelly insinuated with a slight dismissive tone as she sat down at the kitchen table after taking a bottle of vodka.
-Actually Caroline is a Salvatore, it's one of the founding families of town- Matt told her earning a surprised look from his mom- And you didn't know her since she moved here a little over a year ago- he clarified while he stopped looking at her and concentrated on the food.
-She's part of a founding family? Are you seriously dating someone who might be selfish, a spoiled girl and thinks she's better than everyone for being someone important here?- she questioned in bewilderement. Maybe that's why she didn't like the blonde girl, because she could have certain airs of superiority.
-She's not like that, she's really nice. But mom, just leave her alone- the boy asked her tiredly. His mother hated the girl without knowing her only because of her family. After that Kelly changed the subject.
After speaking to Jenna about his wife Isobel possibly being Elena's biological mother, Alaric met with Stefan and told him about it, he also took the opportunity to ask him what Elena knew of the whole thing. Then the older one explained that Damon hadn't told him anything about Isobel and that he needed to relax a little for his sake, but the human insisted that he wanted to know what had happened with his wife, so Stefan tiredly agreed to ask Damon again about Isobel showing him a picture of her so he would remember her.
To get more information about Isobel, Elena had gone to the woman's friend's house to see if she knew anything about her. For a while the lady had been telling her what Isobel was like at school and what she knew of her, including that she had disappeared and gone to college after giving birth to her. But she also discovered that the woman was hiding something from her as she had given her tea with vervain, as if she feared that she was a vampire, and when she told her so she would explain to her what she was hiding the woman simply shooed her out of the house in fright. On her way out she noticed a man in the middle of the street, so she quickly got into her car and drove off.
At the Grill Damon was drinking since he was feeling bad again. After a weird encounter he had with Alaric he ran into Sheriff Forbes, who asked him as a favor if he could apply as one of the bachelors for the dating raffle that the Founder's Council was organizing there as a fundraiser. After some thought the vampire agreed to participate in exchange for the sheriff getting him information about Alaric since he felt something strange about him.
Later, Elena went to find Stefan to go to the Grill together for the fundraiser and to tell him what she had done. But she ran into Damon, whom she decided to tell that she'd found out who her birth mother was, then they were interrupted by Stefan.
-I went to see Trudie Peterson- Elena told Stefan after Damon left them alone, to which Stefan wiped his smile- I know. I'm sorry, I didn't plan it- she clarified, knowing what he was thinking.
-How was it?- the older guy asked while he crossed his arms, wanting to know what happened.
-She has vervain. She knows about vampire stuff, and it can't be a coincidence- insinuated the brunette while she looked at him a little worried, thinking it was very weird.
-It isn't. This is Alaric's wife- he added, stopping looking at her for a few seconds, from his pocket he took out the picture that Alaric had given him and gave it to Elena, who looked at it surprised.
-This is her, this is Isobel. He gave this to you?- she asked, glancing between him and the photo.
-Everything he knows about vampires, he learned it from her. He believes that she was killed by one- revealed the vampire a little uncomfortable for telling her that, without revealing Damon's part.
-Oh my God- blurted out the younger girl shocked by that possibility while she stopped looking at him.
-Listen Elena, there's a lot about Isobel that Alaric can tell you, but I need you to hold off a little while before you talk to him- the older one suggested staring at her fixedly, confusing her.
-Why?- she wanted to know without understanding his request while she frowned a little.
-I know that it's a lot to ask of you, but will you do that for me?- Stefan asked, thinking that it was the best thing for everyone. Elena nodded while keeping a straight face, wondering why he had told her that.
Taking advantage of the fact that Elena had left for the fundraising, Stefan tried to talk to his brother again. He showed him the photo of Isobel that Alaric had given him, after looking at it for a few seconds Damon just asked him who else apart from him wanted to know what had happened, not being able to talk about the teacher Stefan tried to dodge him and ask if he'd killed her, but the older one just clarified that he didn't know who she was and they went to the Grill.
Caroline had helped organize the fundraiser and it was going well, Matt was keeping her company while she was busy and then Elena joined them as she waited for her boyfriend. They were laughing about something when they saw Matt's mother walking towards them.
-Hi Mrs. Donovan- the heretic greeted her with a friendly tone but Kelly didn't answer but only glanced at her with a slight hidden disgust and went straight to Elena.
-Elena honey, how are you?- the woman greeted her with familiarity while smiling.
-Hi Kelly, good. How are you?- the brunette returned the greeting as she hugged her.
-Same as always. Matty told me you broke his heart- she commented her bluntly as if it was no big deal, earning surprised looks.
-Mom, don't talk- asked Matt, embarrassed by what his mother was doing.
-Just kidding, calm down. Besides, he already found his backup- she replied throwing a glance at Caroline who looked at her puzzled just like the others. The heretic had to control herself not to answer her in front of the others, but she wished that she could give the woman a good aneurysm, among other ideas she had- Oh, here you go, sweetheart, give me as many as I can buy- she addressed her giving her money for the tickets for the raffle and she accepted it with a smile.
-Here you go ma'am- replied the oldest girl as she handed her the tickets still with the fakest smile she had and Matt shook his head more embarrassed than before as Elena left. Then Matt also left leaving her alone with her work.
Later, Damon was talking to Mrs. Lockwood when Sheriff Forbes arrived, and she had the information about Alaric that he had requested. Hearing everything, he discovered that the woman his brother had been asking about was the teacher's missing wife, which would explain Stefan's very specific questions that day.
Stefan entered the Grill and was about to go straight for his girlfriend when he saw Caroline was on the front, he noticed that she was clutching a piece of paper tightly so he decided to approach her.
-Hey Caroline, trouble at work?- he greeted her with some humor as soon as he got near her.
-Hi Stef. No but I would like to eat something- she replied seriously and with a look that the vampire thought meant "I want to bite someone", so he moved closer to her.
-Someone made you mad enough to want to eat him?- he asked with curiosity in a low voice.
-Matt's mother. I barely knew her and I can't stand her anymore, she makes me want to hurt her- she admitted quiet even though her bad mood showed- She even called me in front of Matt his 'backup girl' and she seems to hate me. If she wasn't his mother, I'd make her go straight to the parking lot and sink my fangs into her jugular- she exclaimed with irritation as the vampire looked at her.
-I know you Caroline, I'm sure you wanted to do something else to her- assured Stefan knowing his sister very well, he knew that when she got really angry she usually had several ideas to retaliate. The blonde ended up rolling her eyes as she was discovered in her tendency to variety.
-I admit I also wanted her to be of another species to give her an aneurysm- she confessed as if it was nothing and her brother looked at her insistently, so she continued- Or to siphon her energy until she ended up screaming in pain. And I wanted to make her get hurt a couple of times for a while- she revealed with a look of surrender for having talked about her options to get even.
-Try to relax, okay? Maybe when she gets to know you better she'll see that you're a great girl- he suggested to try to lift her spirits, he hoped that Caroline wouldn't end up eating someone for dinner because of that woman- And also, Matt knows you and you're not a backup for him- he added smiling a little. Caroline was a bit doubtful about the last part but let it go.
-You're right, I should only care about Matt's opinion, not his mother's that comes every now and then- she tried to affirm with a smile feeling a little better- Thanks for the advice, now if you excuse me I'll keep working and you go for your girlfriend- Stefan nodded, walked to the center of the crowd and waved from afar to Elena who was seeing the event. On stage Mrs. Lockwood was introducing the bachelors, among them Alaric and Damon.
Damon took advantage of his moment on stage and the information he got about the teacher to let him know in a roundabout way in front of all the people that he was the one who'd killed Isobel, not knowing that she was actually Elena's mother and she realizing what he meant ran out of the Grill, while holding back the urge to cry at the news, being instantly followed by Stefan. The older one found her walking outside to calm down.
-He killed her? Damon was the vampire that killed her?- she asked feeling overwhelmed by that.
-I don't know what happened. Alaric said that they never found the body- he revealed worried for her.
-Oh my God. Stefan- she murmured, feeling even worse at the news.
-I know, I'm sorry. I wanted to tell you. But I just, I wanted to know more- he apologized as he watched her anxiety at seeing her pace a bit to process the information.
-I was feeling sorry for him, hoping that this whole Katherine thing would change him. I'm so stupid- the younger girl lamented while she looked at him, feeling several things at once.
-He doesn't know about the connection to you. I thought about confronting him, but he's already so on edge- the vampire clarified with a slight frown, feeling bad that this was happening.
-Why are you protecting him?- the brunette questioned him, angry that he was excusing him.
-Because you're not the only one hoping that he might actually change- the older one admitted helplessly while they stared at each other. Then in the distance Elena saw the man she'd passed earlier outside Trudie's house, as she told Stefan this he turned to the man watching them, so the vampire insisted they enter the Grill.
Inside the Grill the raffle in charge of Mrs. Lockwood had already begun. Kelly Donovan had won a date with one of the bachelors and went to the table where the heretic was for her ticket, she tried to act cool as her brother told her.
-Congrats Mrs. Donovan- the blonde girl congratulated her as soon as she had her in front of her with a smile.
-Okay, just stop. Stop trying so hard with this thing you're doing. This nice thing that you're doing is fake, just as I'm sure you are too, as well as a spoiled brat. And for some reason Matt likes it, but that doesn't mean I do. I don't like you, okay? Now tell my date I'll be at the bar- the younger woman confronted her, leaving her a little surprised. She didn't expect such a direct and offensive statement, the woman surely expected her to keep quiet but she was messing with a strong-willed vampire.
-Yes, but first I wanna tell you something- she commented before she could go, Kelly stopped but tried to look at her with superiority, a pathetic attempt in her opinion- I don't know why you think that but I'm not trying to do anything. I treat others with respect and I treat you in this way for Matt, but you don't know anything about me so you are no one to try to judge how I am- began to exclaim the blonde girl and saw the human unsettled.
-Listen you...- she tried to retort but Caroline raised her hand with a fake smile.
-Wait, I'm not done. I don't really care about your opinion, I only care about my boyfriend's opinion and he likes me so that's enough. And I'm not fake, as I said before you don't know me so you're not gonna spout your fabrications in my face. If you try to insult me let me tell you that you are far from making me feel bad since you have nothing against me. And just so you know, I am already liked by those I do care about. If you want to hurt someone, you'd better find someone else, okay?- she finished looking at her with a truly superior face, and noticed the fury in her eyes.
-Look blonde, no one...- tried to speak again the younger one annoyed but Caroline got up and glanced at her.
-Sorry but I have to go, some of us are busy- she smiled again and went for water while she felt as if the woman wanted to glare at her or wanted to hurt her with her eyes on the back of her neck, and she had a feeling of pride running through her.
-I'm sure that my family and friends would be proud- she said aloud thinking of her friends.
After getting back into the Grill, Elena was walking while thinking about what her boyfriend had said. She was so distracted that she didn't notice Damon until she bumped into him who tried to joke.
-Did you enjoy it? Rubbing it in to Alaric Saltzman?- Elena replied glaring at him angrily.
-What?- asked Damon very confused by her attitude, while erasing his smile.
-Just as I was starting to think that there was something redeemable about you- she continued, still staring at him with annoyance, and Damon turned around at hearing Stefan approaching them.
-Elena- Stefan said staring at Elena as he shook his head, wanting to tell her not to say anything to the vampire, who after looking at him for a few seconds looked back at Elena.
-Am I missing something here?- inquired the oldest guy, increasingly disoriented. That evening the girl had spoken in a friendly way with him, and now she only seemed to be annoyed with him.
-Did I forget to mention earlier when we were talking abou my birth mother? The one who gave me up?- the brunette started to say making him nod- Her name was Isobel- she revealed with some sadness in her eyes, making Damon's face waver- Go ahead. Reminisce about how you killed her- she added staring at him both hurt and annoyed, to then bump his shoulder as she walked past him to leave the Grill. The vampires exchanged serious glances and Stefan went after Elena.
Finding Elena outside of the place, Stefan wanted to take her home when the brunette saw the man from earlier again, who had been watching them a while before. When Stefan noticed him equally, he stood lightly in front of his girlfriend to protect her. The man told them that he had a message for the brunette, to stop investigating because a woman, that Elena believed was maybe her mother Isobel who then might be alive, didn't want to meet or talk to her so he needed her to stop looking for her right away.
The girl tried to ask him if Isobel was alive, but Stefan kept her behind him and revealed to her that the man was under compulsion, that's why he only repeated to stop looking for her and if she understood the message. When Elena agreed that she had understood the message and that would stop looking for Isobel, the man walked to the middle of the street and stood still there, then he ended up getting hit by a truck. While the vampire knelt down to check on the man, Elena saw a phone on the ground that belonged to the man so she put it in her pocket without her boyfriend noticing and Stefan drove her home.
Damon had returned to the Salvatore boarding house, he was pouring himself a drink when he felt someone enter and when he turned around he saw Alaric with a stake in hand. They got fighting for a few moments while arguing about Isobel, when the vampire revealed what'd actually happened with the woman. He told him that she'd sought out vampires and had appeared before Damon to ask him to turn her into a vampire, which in the end he ended up doing after sleeping with her since there was something that he liked about the woman.
Due to the rage Alaric ran towards the vampire with the stake hoping to kill him, but Damon took the stake and drove it into his chest killing him. He left the body on the floor and sat down with his drink to watch him die, after a while Stefan appeared and was bewildered.
-What happened? What did you do?- asked Stefan worried running to Alaric.
-Do what? He attacked me- he clarified frowning while he watched him check for vital signs.
-Damon- he said as he sat on his knees and looked at him angrily.
-All I did was tell him the truth. His wife didn't want him anymore. It's not my fault that he couldn't handle it- the older one admitted as if he were a victim taking a sip of his drink.
-Like you've been handling Katherine?- he replied sarcastically not believing his excuses.
-I'm handling it fine. You know what? Isobel came to me. And if she's related to Elena, that means she's related to Katherine. Maybe Katherine sent her to me- he hinted as he smiled a little at the possibility, making his brother shake his head.
-Stop it. You don't have to keep looking- the vampire declared, tired of his obsession with her.
-Can't be a coincidence that Isobel sought me out. Can't- he shook his head a little, believing in his idea- I assume you will take care of this- added pointing to Alaric and got up to leave. The younger one sat down next to the body thinking what to do, but as he considered calling Caroline he noticed Alaric's fingers twitching. Frowning curiously, Stefan tried to move a little closer to him, but out of nowhere Alaric woke up while panting heavily.
-What happened? What's going on?- he asked confused and nervous as he raised his head.
-You were... Did Damon turn you?- inquired the vampire while he looked slightly at his face, hoping to get a logical answer for all that since it was crazy.
-No. I, I went for him and then he, uh...he stabbed me- the younger one explained trying to remember the details of his fight with Damon, looking for traces of the attack on his chest.
-No, no, no. You must have vampire blood in your system. Someone gave it to you. Maybe Caroline did it without telling me- suggested the older one, while wondering if the heretic had created a vampire.
-No. It's uh, it's something else- hinted the human opening and closing his hand and then sitting down.
-Then how?- Stefan wondered uneasily at that possibility as he looked at him.
-I, uh...- muttered Alaric thoughtfully looking at his hand as his eyes fell on the ring on his finger- Isobel. This ring protected me- he affirmed staring at it, remembering how his wife had given it to him and asked him to never take it off since it would protect him from what was outside.
-That's impossible- added the vampire just as puzzled, intercalating his gaze between the human and that ring. That night had gotten weirder than it already was.
Meanwhile, Elena was in her room pensively staring at a photo of herself with her parents as she considered what to do. Putting the picture aside, she picked up the phone she had taken from the man on the street and opened it finding the last number dialed, which she called before a change of mind. After a few seconds someone answered on the other end.
-Was there a problem? Did you find her? What's going on?- she heard a woman ask, sounding confused and wanting an answer. After taking a breath to calm down, Elena spoke.
-Isobel?- she asked doubtfully. Then the woman ended the call without another word. Feeling a lump in her throat Elena closed the phone as her eyes filled with tears.
In the woods, the vampire Harper had reached a house after walking all day through the town. When he knocked on the door, he was greeted by a woman who called Pearl to let her know he had arrived. Then both Pearl and Anna appeared with a human woman who invited him into the house, implying that she was compelled.
And that's all for now! I hope that you all enjoyed the chapter, it was kinda difficult to choose what to leave, what to sum up and what to let out. But I think it satisfied me how it ended up being, especially with the Caroline-Damon scene, it was a scene really nice between them with a deep talk and an intent to understand each other in a bad moment, while he learns something new and secret about his sister.
Also, tell me what you think about what I did with Caroline facing Kelly, I tried to do it respectfully to show how Caroline could beat whoever she wants without insulting, but tell me if it's well done or you have any piece of good advice, that would be great. See you soon, here's the summary of the next chapter!
Chapter 16 - There Goes The Neighborhood:
Caroline arranges a double date with Stefan and Elena to see how they get along with Matt, but then thinks it was a bad idea. Damon receives special visitors who offer him a tempting deal. However, the Salvatores face a dangerous new enemy.
