Chapter 2: A Dog's Day
Danny and Star had left the school together, enjoying the rare Colette-Free and Vlad-Free day that they were fortunate enough to experience.
"Man, what a nice day of NOT having to deal with that annoying witch!..."Star said, smiling blissfully.
"I'll say. I know that some people might think it's cruel for a person to be GLAD that someone had a severe allergic reaction and got hospitalized...but after everything that nightmare with hair extensions did to us, I say this is warranted..."Danny said.
"You can say that again, Danny-Boo..."Star said, holding his hand.
"So, it's Friday. Jazz is doing an extra credit report at the library, Tucker is hanging out with Valerie and Sam is meeting with her nature rally..."Danny said.
"With Christopher..."Star added, giggling.
"Huh?..."Danny asked, raising a brow.
"Oh, nothing..."Star said, still giggling.
"Anyway, looks like it's just the two of us..."Danny said in a hinting way.
"And that's just the way how I like it, Danny-Boo..."Star said, smiling cutely at him.
"Same here..."Danny said with a chuckle.
The two shared a kiss, before they continued to walk together and hold hands.
"So...wanna go bowling? And then see where that leads to?..."He said before Star sighed.
"Sure, but I still gotta get home early, since Nana and Pop-Pop are gonna stop by for dinner later...and she's bringing her vegan muffins again..."Star said.
"Yeah, understood..."Her boyfriend said, before he paused.
"Should she really be doing a lot of stuff like that if she's still walking with crutches?..."He asked, but Star waved it off.
"My Nana has always been really active, and she hates being sedentary for too long. Plus, you don't have to stand up too long to bake if you place everything in one spot to start with..."She pointed out, and her boyfriend nodded.
"So, how's the move coming along?..."Danny asked.
"Good news, thanks to my dad and Pop-Pop pulling some strings and really managed to luck out. They managed to get the house that they wanted. The ink is already drying and they already paid a moving company to move all their stiff from New York to here...even my Nana's garden surprisingly..."Star said.
"That's good to hear, though I'm surprised that they managed to sell their old house and get it all done so fast..."Danny said.
Star nodded in response.
"My dad isn't the only one with connections, my Pop-Pop and Nana both have a lot of friends who, even if they are retired now, have connections of their own. My Nana says it was a quick process and that they should have everything done before you know it..."Star said before smiling.
"I'm just glad that I'll be able to see them whenever I want now. I really did miss them a lot..."She said sincerely.
Her boyfriend smiled.
"I'm just glad that it's all working out for them. Although, I betting that they have a lot of stuff to move and unpack ahead of them..."He said.
His girlfriend nodded.
"Yeah, but my Nana told me that the movers are gonna be here tomorrow and I promised to help them unpack some stuff..."Star said.
"Tomorrow is Saturday..."Danny said.
"It was the closest available day they could book..."Star said.
"My Pop-Pop and Nana also have a lot of stuff and they are healing from their injuries from the trip. So, me and my dad, who actually took a day off, promised to help them unpack and get settled in..."Star said.
"I see...well, add me to it too..."Danny said, surprising her.
"You sure, Boo? It's gonna be pretty boring, just moving some boxes and helping my Nana rearranging the furniture the way she likes it..."Star said.
"Maybe, but at least I'll still get to hang out with you, which is ALWAYS fun in my book..."Danny said, making her smile at that.
"Besides, I still feel like I owe something to your grandfather and your only good grandmother for what happened during the trip. Plus, like you said...they got hurt during the battle..."Danny said, rubbing the back of his head.
"That was Vlad's fault, not yours!..."Star said, being serious.
"True, but it was still my responsibility. Besides, I'll still be with you and like I said earlier, that's ALWAYS fun..."He said, making Star smile at that.
"Aw, Boo. You're so sweet!~..."Star said, smiling.
"Anything for you, Starlight..."Danny said, sending her a loving look.
The two were about to kiss, but a familiar mist left Danny's mouth. The ghost boy groaned and Star frowned in frustration.
"Again? Talk about lousy timing!..."She grumbled.
"If it's the Box Ghost again, I'm kicking his butt ever harder than usual!..."Danny muttered.
However, the couple soon realized that wasn't the case when a suddenly flash of green speed by and pounced Danny, making him land on the ground.
"WHOA!..."He yelped as he was now on the ground with a ghost on top of him.
"Danny-boo?!..."Star said in alarm.
However, she calmed down once she saw who it was who was "attacking" her boyfriend.
It was a certain adorable little ghost dog who was currently licking Danny's face and acting very affectionate with him in a pet-like kind of way.
It was Cujo, who was happy to see the ghost kid to say the least.
"Oh, boy! It's my half-human half-ghost friend. Hi, best buddy! Hi! Hi!..."The canine thought in excitement.
"Arf! Arf!..."Cujo let out in joy as he licked the ghost boy's face.
"Cujo! Okay, okay, I get it! It's nice to see you too!..."The ghost kid said as he picked him up.
The ghost boy's girlfriend smiled when she saw the ghostly canine, who she began to fawn over.
"Aw, hi Cujo. Did you miss us? You did, didn't you?..."Star said in a baby voice, as she picked the ghost dog and nuzzled him a bit.
"Oh it's my other friend, and my best buddy's mate! Have his puppies someday, nice girl. You're good enough for him as far as I'm concern!..."Cujo thought happily, as he licked her cheek too.
He didn't know what she was saying, but she was being nice to him and that made him happy. The ghost dog soon floated to the ground and started to "talk" to his friends.
"So, you two...wanna go to the park with me? Wanna throw some balls for me to catch? Or throw sticks for me to chase? Or, better yet, BOTH at the same time?! What do you say? Can we?! Can we?! Can we?!..."Cujo thought in excitement as he barked his suggestions, wagging his tail the entire time.
The teenage couple, however, couldn't understand a word he is saying, but saw him acting up.
Star giggled as he patted him on the head and soon rubbed his belly. This got a good response from Cujo, who gave a satisfied sound as a reaction.
"Oh...that's the good stuff! I'm really glad my friend picked you as his mate. You give the best belly rubs! Oh... Belly rubs now, anything else later..."He thought, as he laid on his back and kicked his feet in relaxed joy.
Star smiled and the pretty blonde girl continued to rub the ghostly pooch's belly.
"Looks like someone is feisty today..."Star said as she continued to dote on the spectral canine.
"Let's just hope that feisty won't turn to cranky soon..."Danny said, reminding her of Cujo's condition.
Star pouted but nodded, as she knew that he had a point.
"Fine, but give me a second..."Star said as she pulled something out of her purse.
Cujo smelled it what it was, then saw it and got excited.
"OH BOY! BEEF JERKY!..."The ghostly canine thought in happiness, as he barked in excitement.
"You were carrying beef jerky in your purse?..."He asked, confused as he didn't expect that as a snack for her.
"I figured that we'd run into Cujo again at some point and that it would probably be a good idea to have a treat on hand..."His girlfriend said, before she turned to the ghost dog.
"Oh boy, give me some of them beefy goodness, pretty and nice human girl! Please! Please! Please!..."Cujo thought as he barked happily, and even did "puppy eyes" to her.
Star giggled as she handed him a slice. The ghost dog ate it, did a small somersault in pleasure, and then begged for more.
"Uh uh uh, Cujo. First, sit..."Star said, wanting to play with him a little bit more.
"That word...she wants me to sit in place...okay, anything for that beef jerky..."Cujo thought, doing as he was told.
He instinctively did as he was commanded, before the blonde girl gave the next command.
"Shake?..."Star said as she held her hand out.
"She wants me to put my paw in hers...okay!..."Cujo thought as he did so and Star shook his paw.
"Good boy. Now the last one...roll over..."She said.
Cujo responded by floating in the air and then doing what was basically a mid-air somersault.
"Alleyoop!..."Cujo thought as he did the trick.
Once he was done, Star giggled and applauded him.
"Good boy, here's your reward..."Star said, as she empty the bag of all the jerky in front of the ghostly pooch.
Cujo's mouth was salivating at the sight of the jerky and he got excited
"Oh boy, jackpot!..."Cujo thought as he dug in.
He didn't understand the conversation the teenage couple was having right now as he was too busy focusing on the food.
"You really didn't have to do any of this. You do realize it's probably making him more attached to you, right?..."Danny pointed out.
"I couldn't resist. Ghost or not, he's still one cute little dog and he really does means well deep down, I know it. Besides, I figure him not being hungry would be a good thing, all things considered..."The blond girl pointed out.
"Point taken..."Danny admitted, as he went behind the pooch and pulled out his thermos.
He waited until Cujo was done eating, seeing him sighing in satisfaction before he sucked him inside the thermos.
Once he was caught, the young couple started talking about him again. Danny's girlfriend didn't seem so happy about this, though.
"I feel bad about Cujo. He really isn't a bad dog and he probably just wanted someone to play with..."Star said, feeling a little sorry for him.
"I know, but you know what happens if he gets too excited...and I don't know about you, but his other side isn't all that cute..."Danny said.
Star sighed.
"That's a matter of opinion, but I know...but if he didn't have that problem and if we could keep ghost animals as pets, I'd have taken him home with me a long time ago..."She admitted.
"Yeah...me too..."Danny admitted, before glancing at his watch.
"Come on, the bowling alley awaits..."He said.
Star nodded.
"Yeah, but let's drop off Cujo first at the Ghost Zone first. He didn't really do anything wrong and it seems mean to leave him cooked up in the thermos for so long..."She pointed out.
"Okay..."Danny agreed.
The young couple soon went to Fenton Works, to "drop off" Cujo in the Ghost Zone before they left to go enjoy their date.
However, both were unaware that their next encounter with the ghostly pooch would be MUCH sooner than they thought.
The Next Day
It was Saturday morning, and the Bevier household was already up and getting ready for their day.
Fifi was currently playing with Pierre, trying to enjoy their time together before she had to leave.
"Oh boy! Come on, little one! Throw the smelly, chewy thing!..."Fifi thought as Pierre threw one of Jean-Luc's shoes and Fifi fetched it, and brought it back to him.
Pierre cheered and clapped his little hands.
"Again! Again!..."Pierre giggled as he threw the item once more for the dog to fetch, which she happily did so.
However, their fun was cut short when the "man of the house" arrived and seemed to be crankier than usual.
"Stella, where is my new, imported leather loafers from Milan?!..."Jean-Luc bellowed, only to see Pierre holding it.
The French man leaned down to his son and tried to reach for it, but his son wouldn't let it go.
"Non, non, mon petite héritier mâle. That is one of Papa's VERY EXPENSIVE new shoes! Now give it to moi, s'il te plaît..."Jean Luc said as he tried to reach for it.
His son pouted in response.
"Fifi, fetch fetch!..."Pierre whined when his father took it from him.
Jean Luc saw the bite marks and canine drool on it and frowned, before glaring at the dog.
"Accursed dog, she's very lucky to be a purebred. Otherwise, I'd have sent into that nest of mongrels called the pound..."He grumbled before sending his son and the dog a stern look.
"Mon fils unique, as the future owner of our family's prestigious business...you need to learn NOT to let our prized show dog slobber over valuable items or throw her stuff as if she was some common mongrel mutt...especially if you throw her papa's things..."Jean-Luc said, though Pierre didn't understand and got fussy.
"Want mama and Star!..."Pierre whined, getting even more fussy right now.
Jean-Luc groaned, as his wife arrived after she finished brushing her hair.
"What are you doing to Pierre?..."She said as she picked her baby boy up.
"I was just educating our son about respecting other people's things and not throw things to make Fifi catch as if she was some common mutt...especially when they are MY things..."Jean Luc said, looking annoyed that his new shoes were used as chew toys.
True, the bite marks weren't that noticeable and a practical person probably could still be used if someone cleaned them. But Jean-Luc felt that he was above such thing.
In response to what he said, his wife rolled her eyes as she tended to their son.
"Jean-Luc, he's not even two yet. You can't expect a little baby to even understand half of what you are saying. Also, Fifi is a dog, purebred or not, it's in her nature to fetch something if someone throws it. Besides, you can easily buy a hundred of those Italian loafers without any issue..."Stella said, not seeing it as a big deal.
"True, but it's the principle of the matter..."Jean Luc said as he threw away the "ruined" shoes away, before he went to go get another pair from his closet.
Stella shook her head before turning her attention back to her son.
"Good news, my darling. After we drop Fifi off at her hair appointment and visit Colette in the hospital, we can call your other sister Star and see if she wants to spend the day at the park with us. Doesn't that sound like fun?..."Stella asked as she cooed at her precious baby boy.
Upon hearing that name, her son giggled and looked excited.
"Star! Star!..."Pierre said, happily as he cleared wanted to see his favorite sister again.
"I'll take that as a yes..."Stella said, kissing his forehead.
Fifi saw the excitement from the infant.
"I wonder if we are going to meet the Madame's other pup, the one who looked like her? She's much nicer than the other one and gives the best belly rubs!..."Fifi thought.
However, that hope was dashed when there was a knock at the door.
"Coming..."Stella said, as she went to answer it.
Alyssa was there, ready for her other side gig as a dog walker/sitter.
"Hello Mrs. Bevier. I've come to walk Fifi and take her to her appointment..."Alyssa said before smiling at Pierre.
"Hi there, Pierre. How are you doing today?..."She cooed, and the little boy giggled.
"Aly!..."Pierre let out as he reached to his favorite babysitter.
Alyssa smiled and cooed at him a little more as Stella spoke up.
"Thank you once again for doing this, Alyssa. I know that you usually watch over Pierre whenever I'm busy with something, but right now Colette is still in the hospital and she could use some emotional support from her family..."She said, as she held her son in her arms.
"Unfortunately, the hospital doesn't allow pets inside, unless they're specifically trained as support animals... which unfortunately, my Fifi isn't yet. I may look into it but right now, it will just be Pierre and I who will be visiting her today and my husband has an important meeting. We need someone to be with our dear little Fifi..."The blonde mother said.
"Hey, I don't mind. Fifi is a sweet dog and this is on the way to the salon nearby where they can give her a little snack. I'm happy to do it..."Alyssa said.
"Plus, not everyone is willing to pay $30 an our to walk their dog, or $50 an hour to babysit their kid. So she won't hear me complaining even once on either jobs..."She thought, though she did do it mostly because she was genuinely does like and care about who she takes care of.
Before anyone began to leave, Stella went over some reminders to Alyssa. She held out a paper and wrote something on it quickly.
"Anyway, be sure to remind Raul that Fifi is in need for her bi-monthly flea and tick check up and that the vet recommends switching over to the organic conditioner to keep her fur as lustrous as possible..."Stella said, as she handed the note to the dog sitter.
"Will do..."Alyssa said, as she put the leash on Fifi.
Soon, she left with the dog, who followed. However, Fifi sent one last look at Pierre, who was looked saddened to being separated from him and Stella.
"Another outing without Madame and the little one, while I am on my own again, I see..."Fifi thought, realizing that she had to go on another route chore again for Stella.
She had no resentment towards Alyssa, but she clearly preferred another's company.
Once they were gone, Stella closed the door. Pierre saw Fifi leave and his lower lip quivered a bit, before he let out a cry.
"WAH!..."Pierre let out.
His mother tried to soothe him and calm him down.
"What's wrong, my little darling? Are you hungry? Do you need another diaper change already?..."She asked, while her son kept crying.
"Fifi..."Pierre let out, wanting his pet back.
Stella figured what this was about, and tried to cheer him up.
"Oh, don't worry, Pierre darling. Fifi is just going to a nice place that will make her even prettier. She'll be back later..."Stella said, as she managed to calm him down.
Once she placed him in his play pen, she pulled out her phone and dialed a number. After a few moments, there was an answer.
"Hello..."Was heard.
"Hello Star, how is my beautiful daughter?..."Stella asked in her extravagant sounding voice.
"Just fine, Mom. What's up?..."Star asked.
"It's such a lovely day and I was thinking about taking Pierre to the park later today, after we visit Colette at the hospital. Care to join us?..."Stella asked, but her daughter's mood became sour the moment she heard THAT name.
"I already told you that I don't care if that boyfriend stealing floozy is in the hospital, I am NOT going to visit her and nothing you can say can change my mind!..."Star snapped, making it clear that she still can't stand her.
Stella flinched by the volume and tone of her daughter.
"Star, I-..."The mother tried, but her daughter cut her off.
"Mom, Colette STILL won't leave me and Danny alone and she is STILL acting like a CONSTANT thorn in our side! I have NO sympathy for her problems at all! Whatever happened to her was a LONG TIME coming and we all know it! She could be hit by a TRUCK and I'll only feel worried about the driver denting his truck!..."Star said, being brutally honest with her mother.
"Surely you don't mean th-..."She was about to say, but she couldn't even finish her sentence as she was getting cut off by her biological daughter twice in a row.
"I MEAN it, Mom! I am counting down the day until Danny and I graduate and I NEVER have to see her ever again! End of discussion!..."Star said, being as clear and blunt as possible
It was obvious that she wanted to make it clear that she won't change her mind on the subject.
Stella groaned, feeling upset and exhaustion about this "sibling rivalry" between her two daughters.
"What I'd give to have you both get along for once..."She asked, looking tired and sad.
"That'll happen the day NON-GHOSTLY pigs fly!..."Star muttered.
Stella was upset, but she also knew that she can't force her daughter to visit Colette. She sighed, and tried to change the subject to something a little more positive.
"Okay, well...even if you don't join us at the hospital...you can still meet with us after that. It's such a lovely day and I was planning on taking Pierre to the park after the hospital visit. Would you care to join us then?..."Stella asked, sounding uneasy as she said this.
Thankfully, her daughter's mood improved but her answer wasn't one that Stella expected.
"Any other time, sure. But not today. Me, Dad, Danny, Georgia and Solene are all helping Nana and Pop-Pop move in to their new house today..."Star said, surprising her mother.
"Today?! I mean...they've already moved in...so soon?!..."Stella asked, surprised to hear that.
"Don't be so surprised, you know that Nana can being surprisingly quick, even at her age. She doesn't stop until she's had things her way..."Star said.
"Oh...true..."Stella said as she knew that her former mother-in-law always had a way of getting things done no matter what.
"Wait...if you were busy, why didn't you say-..."She was cut off by her daughter, yet again.
"Even if I WAS free, I'd still wouldn't go visit Colette! I'd sooner visit a ghost in the Ghost Zone for tea and cookies, than see her!..."Star said harshly, making her mother cringe.
"I...see...I really do wish that you two could get along as sisters one day..."Stella said, wishing for the impossible without even realizing it.
"She's my STEP-sister and she's not even a GOOD one! She's practically a supervillain at this point!..."Star said, recalling ONE particular incident that her mother was still in the dark about.
The blonde girl kept complaining to her mother about her hated step-sister.
"Heck, she's even worse than the stepsisters in Cinderella! At least one of them redeemed themselves!..."Star said, making her hatred clear.
"Oh... well... I guess we'll just meet up another time..."Stella said in defeat, while her daughter calmed down a bit.
"Anyway, I gotta go help Nana and Pop-Pop. Give Pierre a kiss on the cheek for me and give Fifi a nice belly rub for me too. Tell Colette NOT to get better for me!..."Star said, while her mother frowned at that one.
"All do all but the last one. And I think that is going a little too far, young lady..."Stella said in a scolding voice.
"I'm NOT taking it back! Anyway, like I said, give my love to my adorable baby brother..."Star said, her mood changing as soon as she mentioned him.
Her mother gave up, and complied for now.
"Sure, alright...Tell Danny...and your father that I said "Hi"..."Stella said with a more disappointed tone at the end.
Stella hung up and sighed.
"I wish those parenting books could give advice about this sort of thing. Honestly, what am I going to do with both of them?..."She thought, before shaking her head in exhaustion.
She then thought about something else, namely the fact that her former in-laws were already here.
"Joy and Kirk are already here, huh?..."She thought, not sure how to respond to that.
She had mixed feelings about her former in laws moving here, to be honest.
Ironically, if this had happened when she and Johnathan were still married, she probably would have been happy with the idea of having them live so close to town and their home...but now is it all just feels like one big bag slowly filling with complicated emotions.
Especially with what she just went through with them back in New York.
Sure, she could understand their reasons...wanting to be closer to their beloved granddaughter and their son...but this had left her feeling an extra sense of distance between her and Star now.
True, their relationship was steadily improving day by day...but it was clear that Johnathan's parent, especially Joy, was very close to Star and even if their last conversation had ended on somewhat decent terms...it was clear things would still be tense between them for a long time.
The blonde mother sighed.
She took one deep breath to try and calm her mind and tried to see the bright side of this situation.
"Well...I'm sure Star is happy about this. They've always been good to her and that's what matters..."Stella whispered.
The blonde woman then went to the kitchen to get her son's bottle, while her husband, now wearing completely different shoes, appeared and looking rather indifferent now.
"Stella, I'm going to meet up with a very lucrative client today and spend most of the day with him and make a deal. So lock up all of the valuables and keep me informed about Colette's condition. Preferably in text form, no calls..."Jean Luc said, more of an order than a request.
Stella frowned but Pierre had caught her attention more than her husband did. It was enough to hide her reaction.
"One moment, Dear. I think that Pierre may need a diaper change after all..."Stella said, as she proceeded to take her son in another room to change and clean him.
"Make sure that he is quiet, I do not want any interruptions..." He said, once again as more of an order, before leaving.
As Stella continued to tend to her son and get ready to visit her step-daughter in the hospital, Fifi was being walked by Alyssa and soon taken to her appointment.
Alyssa decided to take Fifi to her appointment on foot instead of by car, since today seemed like such a lovely day for a walk. Plus, there wasn't a ghost in sight for the time being and that made this all the more special.
"It smells much better out here than in the Madame''s room with that atrocious spray her mate calls cal-loan...or whatever you call that thing. Humans really have a weak sense of smell if they can tolerate such a thing..."Fifi thought to herself.
The female canine continued to taken to her appointment, but she was also feeling down as Fifi felt that she with being ignored and left out everyone's lives.
"Madame has been so busy after having her new human pup, that she barely has any time for me now. And she looks sad sometimes whenever she is yelling at that cranky man and his mean pup. Still, I have to do my part and be good for the family..."She thought, as she continued to follow her schedule like the good girl that she's suppose to be.
All the while, she felt rather lonely and bored...despite present company of course.
She was another that there was another dog who was also lonely and wanted to have fun too.
Meanwhile
In the Ghost Zone
Cujo had woken up from his sleep and soon flew across the Ghost Zone and arrived at a familiar portal.
"I don't smell any of my friends anywhere around here. So that must mean that they're somewhere in need of me..."Cujo thought, as he dug through the closed portal and was soon came out into the human world.
He smiled as he sniffed around, trying to find his half human, half ghost friend and his pretty mate who is always fun and who feeds him tasty treats.
"Hmmm...nothing yet..."Cujo thought but soon picked up the scent.
"Got it, my bestest buddy and his super duper nice mate are this way! I'm coming!..."Cujo thought, as he soon fazed out of the basement lab, off to find his friend and play with him.
All the while, Jack and Maddie had been working on he interior and the maintenance on the Specter Speeder, their backs turned to the portal the entire time.
However, the Fenton Patriarch suddenly flinched as he looked around, as if looking for something.
"What's wrong, Jack?..."Maddie asked, while her husband frowned.
"Did you hear something, Maddie? It must be a ghost!..."Jack said in his usual, suspicious, ghost-obsessed way.
His wife rolled her eyes and thought he was just jumping to conclusions again.
"Jack, the portal is closed and even if it wasn't...I'm pretty sure that we'd notice any ghost stepping out of it the moment it happens..."Maddie said, thinking he is being paranoid again.
"Anyway, hand me the wrench..."She ordered.
Her husband did so, and the two continued to work on the ghostly vehicle.
All then while, they were unaware of all the chaos and hilarious shenanigans that would happen later today. They were also unaware of the unique new relationship would lead to certain events and challenges.
Oh boy.
