AN: Hello, I have the next chapter here. We are closing in on the end of this arc, which has around three chapters left including this one. And in this one, as the title would tell for people that know the V2 episode, it focuses on Blake and Yang. This one was a lot of fun to write for the moments between friends. Hope you enjoy this chapter, leave a review with your comments and questions, and have a nice day.

Chapter 47 – The Burning Candle
"Blake! Blake!" Yang called out as she walked down the streets of Domino City's commercial district, "Come out come out wherever you are?" she said before stopping near a tree, crossing her arms, "Damnit, where is she?" the fiery Ra Yellow said before leaning against a tree. However, she heard a rustling from a above, "Hm?"
Yang looked up to discover Blake sitting on one of the branches, "…" The shadowy Obelisk Blue looked down with wide eyes.
"Hey, whatcha doing," Yang commented with a smirk, "Hanging out?"
"Yang, please let this go," Blake responded.
"Nope, you know that's not who I am," Yang responded, "Come on, you like the guy. If you talk with him about your feelings, he might realize he likes you too."
"…" Blake remained silent.
"Talk to me." Yang asked, her voice more sincere, "What are you scared of?"
"…What if it happens again?" Blake spoke as she broke eye contact, "Last time, it was one of the worst choices I ever made in my life." She said as a tear formed in the corner of her eye, "It not only hurt me, but a lot of people I care about."
"Blake…" Yang responded, then put her right metallic hand against the tree. Suddenly, the fiery Ra Yellow then gritted her teeth before punching the tree, causing it to shake. Blake slight gasped before falling off, but landed on her feet, "I thought we were done with this whole self-destructive nature of yours." She said with Blake having a look of confusion, "Come on, do you really think Zane is going to turn into some evil Edgelord like Adam?" Yang asked, then hit her fist together with, "And if does, I promise to knock some sense back into him for you."
"What!?" Blake gasped, then looked away as she recalled a painful memory, "But…When you did this last time, it cost you your arm."
"So," Yang said with Blake looking back in shock, "I don't care if it cost me another arm, a leg, or even my head of hair." she said before smiling, "I'd do whatever it takes to protect my friends."
"Yang," Blake said as tears formed in her eyes, causing the fiery Ra Yellow to hug her friend, "I'm sorry, I don't know how I can ever repay you."
"For starters, maybe instead of saying 'I'm sorry' so much," Yang responded after their hug ended, "Just say thank you."
"Hehe, I'll try." Blake said as she was about to leave but was stopped by Yang right arm.
"While we're at it, how about a duel?" Yang offered, "We've only had the one match where I took your title of Strongest Ra Yellow." She said before winking, "Besides, I think Zane won't mind waiting a bit longer."
Blake smirked back, "Okay, you're on." She said with a nod.
The two then took out their decks and loaded their duels disks. They assumed their stances against one another as their rematch was about to begin, "Duel!"
Yang: 4000 Life Points
Blake: 4000 Life Points
"I'll go first," Yang said as she drew, "I summon Flame Tiger in attack mode." She said as a burning sabretooth tiger roared onto the battlefield, (1800 ATK / 0 DEF). "And I'll end with two cards face down."
"My turn then," Blake said as she drew, then took a card can placed it in a slot in her duel disk, "I activate the field spell, Fusion Recovery Plant." She said as a pile of scrap metal appeared behind her, "I can discard a card to add Polymerization from my deck or graveyard to my hand." The shadowy Obelisk Blue said her Reload spell went to the grave, and her fusion spell eject from her deck.
"Not wasting time, are you?" Yang commented, "Okay, bring it-"
"I summon Lunalight Blue Cat in defense mode." Blake interrupted, causing her feline ballerina to appear in a kneeing stance, (1600 ATK / 1200 DEF), "Then I end with two cards face down as well."
"Huh, no first turn fusion." Yang commented in slight confusion, then glared, "You better not be going easy on me."
"Not a chance," Blake responded with a smirk.
"Okay, I'll take my turn then." Yang said as she drew, "I tribute Flame Tiger for Nine-Tailed Fox!" the fiery Ra Yellow said as the blazing sabretooth was replaced with a white fox with red tipped tails, (2200 ATK / 2000 DEF). "Go, attack her Blue Cat." She commanded with the Nine-Tailed Fox pounced on the feline ballerina, causing Blake's monster to shatter.
"When Blue cat is destroyed, I can special summon a new Lunalight from my deck." Blake said as a card ejected, "I pick Lunalight Crimson Fox." She said a red beast warrior was summoned with a brown tipped tail, (1800 ATK / 600 DEF).
"Heh, copycat," Yang said before crossing her arms, "That'll do for my turn."
"Mine then," Blake said as she drew, placing the card in her hand before getting the one she added last turn, "I play Polymerization, fusing my Lunalight Crimson Fox on the field with the Lunalight Purple Butterfly in hand." She said as the two monsters formed in a spiral vortex behind her, "To form, Lunalight Cat Dancer!" the shadowy Obelisk Blue said as the graceful Lunalight fusion appeared with daggers in her hand, (2400 ATK / 2000 DEF). "And since Fox was sent to the grave by a card effect, your monsters attack points become zero." She said with Nine-Tailed Fox recoiling from a crimson aura. (0 ATK / 2000 DEF). "And now, I play Call of the Call of the Haunted. Allow me to resurrect Blue cat." Blake said as the feline ballerina to reappear, (1600 ATK / 1200 DEF). "And when she is special summoned, I can double my Lunalight Cat Dancer's attack points for the rest of this turn." She said with the graceful Lunalight gaining a blue aura, (2400 X 2 = 4800 ATK).
"Wow, that was a bit more of what I was expecting from you." Yang commented.
"Sorry to make this dance short," Blake said before pointing, "I attack your Nine-Tailed Fox with Lunalight Cat Dancer. Go, Moonlight Shadow Strikes!" she said with the graceful Lunalight rushing for the one hit knockout move.
"Now you're getting a bit too cocky," Yang responded, "I active Nutrient Z, giving me 4000 more life points before damage calculation." She said with the trap reveling itself, then then saw it stutter with blue lightning, "Huh?"
"I revealed my face down, Trap Jammer." Blake responded, "Last time, I rushed in before thinking about what traps you might have laid for me." She said before focusing, "I'm sorry, but I got that title for a reason."
"You're still saying that out of force of habit," Yang responded with a smirk, "Too bad I revel my other trap card, Counter Counter!" she said as Blake's Trap Jammer sparked in blue lighting, "I can negate the activation of your counter trap and destroy it." She said as the counter traps shattered, and Nutrient Z no longer stuttered with its effect. At the same time, Cat Dancer slashed Nine-Tailed Fox, causing a massive explosion, "Heh, my life points barely fell at all." She said before seeing a few strands of blond hair fall from the top of her head.
"Don't forget about the 100 life points Cat Dancer inflicts on an attack." Blake commented.
Yang: 4000 + 4000 – 4800 – 100 = 3100 Life Points
"Oh, you're gonna pay for that." Yang said as her eyes flashed red for a second.
"Maybe, but I can still attack you directly with Blue Cat." Blake was saying until the smoke fully cleared, seeing two smaller foxes of fire on the field, "What!?"
"When Nine-Tailed Fox is destroyed by battle, I can summon out two Fox tokens in defense mode." She said as the two foxes did a backflip in joy, (500 ATK / 500 DEF).
"Then, I will take one of then down right now." Blake said as Blue Cat dashed in, kicking one of the fox tokens, causing it to shatter, "I'll end with one card face down." She said while setting a card, then had one eject from her graveyard, "And as a second effect of Recycling Plant, if I fusion summoned, I can add a material back to my hand." She said before showing Crimson Fox going back to her hand, then saw the blue aura fade away from Cat Dancer, (4800 – 2400 = 2400 ATK).
"I draw," Yang said as she drew, "I tribute the other Fox Token to summon Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch!" she said as flaming tornado emerged over the fox token. As it settled, a giant knight spiked armor was seen holding a fire in his left hand, (2400 ATK / 1000 DEF). "With his effect, you discard a random card. And if it's a monster, you take damage equal to its level times 100." Yang said before pointing, "You only have one card in your hand, and I know it's a monster."
"Yes," Blake said as she showed Crimson Fox going the graveyard, "But since that card was sent to the graveyard, your monarch loses all its attack points." She said with Thestalos recoiling from the crimson aura, (0 ATK / 1000 DEF). however, Blake also was engulfed in a burning aura.
Blake: 4000 – (4 X 100) = 3600 Life Points
"Well, looks like I am not attacking this turn." Yang said as she took a card out of her hand, "But I was not planning on it anyway. I play Soul of Fire!" she said before playing card, then punching with her duel disk arm, causing her body to engulf in flames that pulsated around the area, "I can remove from play this pyro monster from deck with 2800 attack points. Then, you take 1400 points of damage." She said as Blake recoiled from the heatwave.
Blake: 3600 – 1400 = 2200 Life Points
"Don't worry, I can't attack this turn and you get to draw one card to replace the one I made your discard earlier." Yang said as Blake drew,"So, I guess I'll end with two card face down." She said with her hand empty while the crimson aura faded from Thestalos, (2400 ATK / 1000 DEF).
"I draw," Blake said before taking one of the cards out of her hand, "I discard one card to add Polymerization back to my hand."
"Before that, I have my own spell to activate." Yang said as the quick play she set had revealed itself, "Shared Ride. Each time you add a card from the deck or graveyard to your hand. I draw a card." She said before Blake added Polymerization to hand, causing the fiery Ra Yellow to draw one card.
"That won't stop my plans," Blake said before playing her spell, "I'll activate it to fuse both of my cats to make Lunalight Panther Dancer!" the shadowy Obelisk Blue said as the vortex formed with her monstering merging inside, while exiting was the fierce Lunalight, reposing with her golden rings, (2800 ATK / 2500 DEF). "This time, I will activate her effect to attack your monster multiple times." Blake said before pointing, "Go Panther Dancer, attack with Midnight Mirage Rush!" She said with the fierce Lunalight rushing in at high speed, her left craw reeled back.
"Gotcha," Yang said before smirking, "I reveal my other face down, Skill Successor." She said as Thestalos gaining a blazing aura, "Now, my monster gains 400 attack points, making it a match for your Panther Dancer." The fiery Ra Yellow said as her Firestorm Monarch counted with blazing fist reeled back. (2400 + 400 = 2800 ATK). The two monster strikes collided with a massive explosion, but only Thestalos stood when the smoke cleared, "But thanks to your fusion monster's effect, mine is not destroyed in the first battle."
"You set me up," Blake commented, "Made me think that I need to use the effect of my fusions over checking your backrow."
"I'm just trying to help you make up your mind." Yang responded with her arms crossed.
"Heh, I know what I'm doing." Blake said as she pressed a button on her duel disk, "I reveal my face down, Lunalight Reincarnation Dance." She said as two monster cards ejected from her deck, "I can now add Lunalight Black Sheep and Yellow Marten to my hand."
"Since your adding two cards to your hand," Yang said before drawing, "I get to draw one."
"I'll summon Yellow Marten in defense mode." Blake said as the yellow weasel knelt on the field in a blocking stance, (800 ATK / 2000 DEF). "And now, at the end of my turn, I can use Fusion Recover Plant to add Blue Cat from my graveyard back to my hand." With that, the firestorm monarch lost its aura, (2800 – 400 = 2400 ATK).
"That gives me one last card to draw from Shared Ride and my normal draw." Yang said before drawing, smiling at the result of her four new cards, "This time, I'll show you something bigger. I play Burial from a Different Dimension. I can target up to three removed from play monsters to return to the graveyard, but I only have one to pick. Then, I'll play Monster Reincarnation, adding that monster to my hand for one discard." She said as she showed the card, "Now, I can tribute summon for this monster with only a tributed monster as the cost. So, say hello to Thestalos, the Mega Monarch!" the fiery Ra Yellow said as her firestorm monarch was engulfed in a flame tornado again. However, this one expanded in size before exploding to reveal a massive titan-like Knight with crimson and even spikier armor, (2800 ATK / 1000 DEF).
"So, this one always has 2800 attack now." Blake commented.
"More than that, this guy has a few upgrades." Yang said before pointing, "Now, I can look at your hand and make you discard a card. But I already know I want you to ditch, that Blue Cat again. And this time, you take 200 per level." Yang said as Blake sent the card to the graveyard, all while Thestalos's right hand engulfed in flames, "Also, since I tribute a fire monster for this one, you take an additional 1000 points of damage. Then while we're at it, I'll attack your Yellow Martin. Go, Mega Firestorm Assault!" Yang said before Thestalos fired a beam of white-hot fire towards Blake's side of the field, causing it to erupt in flames. While Yellow Martin was burnt to a crisp, Blake shielded herself from the intense heat before staggering.
Blake: 2200 – (4 X 200) – 1000 = 400 Life Points
"I'll end my turn." Yang responded with the one card still in her hand, "This duel is almost over, and you've barely done more damage than last time."
"Then, I guess I'll have to change that." Blake said as she refocused, draw the card with a smile, "I summon Lunalight Tiger in attack mode." She said as a small black and yellow tiger girl formed on the field, (1200 ATK / 800 DEF), "Now, I use Marten's effect to bounce Tiger to my hand to summon her back in defense mode." She said as the tiger faded and yellow weasel repaired in a kneeling stance, (800 ATK / 2000 DEF).
"Are you going to discard for Polymerization again?" Yang asked.
"No, I have all I need right now." She said as she took one card out of her hand, "I play Lunalight Fusion." She said as the vortex appeared behind her again, "I fuse my Yellow Marten, Tiger, and Black Sheep." She said as the three Lunalight monsters merged into one, "Into Lunalight Sabre Dancer!" she as the golden-haired dancer landed on the battlefield, reposing with both her blades, (3000 ATK / 2600 DEF). "If you remember, she gains 200 attack points for each beast warrior that we have in are graves and is banished."
"If I'm right, that's eight monsters from you now." Yang commented.
"Yes, but thanks to Black Sheep, I can add Purple Butterfly back to my hand," Blake responded, "And I'll discard her to give Sabre 1000 more attack points." She said as the golden haired Lunalight gained a powerful yellow aura, (3000 + (200 X 8) + 1000 = 5600 ATK). "Go, attack with Curved Blade Bisector!" the shadowy Obelisk Blue said with Sabre scaling the Mega Monarch, evading the spikes and flames, then slashed across his helmet. Thestalos toppled before explosion, while Sabre gracefully landed near Blake.
Yang: 3100 – 2800 = 300 Life Points
"Now that's what I was expecting from the Strongest Ra Yellow." Yang responded.
"Glad to live up to your standards," Blake responded, "I'll end my turn, but since adding a monster back to my hand would lower her attack, I will not use Fusion Recycling Plant again." She said as Sabre Dancer lost the aura of Purple Butterfly, (5600 – 1000 = 4600 ATK). "Can you beat over a monster with 4600 attack points."
"Let's see," Yang said before drawing then, then smirked, "I play Onslaught of the Fire Kings. Since you have a monster and I have none, I can special summon Fire King High Avatar Garunix in attack mode." She said an eruption of flames formed into the shape of a massive red bird, (2700 ATK / 1700 DEF). "And now, I summon Second Booster." She said before a blue jet with mechanical arms was seen, (1000 ATK / 500 DEF). "Now, I can tribute Second Booster to give my High Avatar gains 1500 attack points." She said as the blue rocket attached to Garunix's back, (2700 + 1500 = 4200 ATK).
"That won't be enough," Blake commented, "If you attack, only you're life points will hit zero. And now, you have no other cards to increase its attack points."
"Sorry to burst your bubble," Yang said before her eyes changed to red, "But the last card has not been played yet. I remove Skill Successor from my grave to give my monster 800 more attack points. Which push my High Avatar to 5000 attack points!" She said as Blake gasped at Garunix's screech, the burning aura slighting expanding, (4200 + 800 = 5000 ATK). "Go, finish her off with Rocket Phoenix Crash!" Yang declared with the second booster thruster engaging, causing Garunix to soar in the air while gaining a blazing aura. The High Avatar the aimed downward at Lunalight Sabre, rocketing down with the force of a meteorite. Blake shielded from the oncoming crash but was still blown back from the heatwave. When she looked back at the sight, her monster was reduced to ashes, while Garunix screeched in victory.
Blake: 400 – 400 = 0 Life Points
"That settles it then," Blake said as she started to stand up, watching Yang approach as the holograms faded.
"Hehe," Yang chuckled, "You know, I really liked that title. Saying gave me a real confidence boost if I was ever doubting myself in a duel." She said before slightly breaking eye contact, "But in the back of my head, I thought I never truly earned it. That it wasn't true."
"Yang, you beat me then, and you beat me now." Blake said regaining Yang attention, "You're the Strongest Ra Yellow."
"Thanks," Yang said before extending her right arm with a fist, "And thanks for the rematch." She said with Blake smiling back, then bumped her right fist against her friend's, "Still, would have been a little awkward if you had that title when you're an Obelisk Blue."
"I guess," Blake said with a chuckle, "Have you ever thought of taking the placement exam to move up to that dorm."
"Nah, I like yellow way too much to switch over to blue." Yang responded before turning, "Come on, we've kept him waiting long enough."
"Right." Blake said with a nod before fallowing Yang.
Back at the Pizzeria, "…Zzz…" Zane's eyes were half open as his head bobbed forward. Before he was about to drift off to sleep, the cyber pro duelist noticed two individuals returning, causing him to quickly wake up.
"Hey," Blake said with a wave.
"Sorry to keep you waiting?" Yang added as they sat at the table.
"No problem," Zane responded, but focused back on Blake, "I've been meaning to ask you. Everyone said what they will be doing after graduating, except you."
"Yeah, I've been wondering too." Yang commented as well, "Are you going to join the pro leagues?" she asked, but the shadowy Obelisk Blue shook her head from side to side.
"I've been thinking about I for a long time, but then had a talk with Alexis." Blake responded, "She's considering studying abroad to become a teacher, and I'm thinking of doing the same." The shadowy Obelisk Blue said while looking down at her hands cupping her glass of water, "I want to teach people what I've learned at Duel Academy. Help then not make the same mistakes I made as a student. But most importantly, be there for them when they need to ask someone for help."
"That's good goal for you to have," Zane said with a smile, "And I'm sure you'll make a great teacher."
"T-than...," Blake said as she slightly looked down, hiding her red face, then tried to change the subject, "Yang, what so you think-" she asked as she turned to her friend, but saw tears in the fiery Ra Yellow's lilac eyes, "Eh?"
"You're leave us so soon?" Yang spoke in a sorrowful voice, "OH BLAKE!" she cried before hugging the shadowy Obelisk Blue, "I don't want to say goodbye yet!"
"Yang, this wouldn't be until after graduation!" Blake said as she tried to push her friend off, but was unable to, "Please let go, you're embarrassing us." She said before looking back to Zane but was slightly shocked at his smile.
"I think it's nice that you have friends that care for you so much," Zane commented, "You deserve it." He said with Blake's face turning red again.
However, because Yang's hug, Blake was unable to look away. Instead, she smiled as she looked at the cyber pro duelist, "Thank you."
AN: There you go, Blake and Yang have a real match for the title of Strongest Ra Yellow. It was a lot of fun having Yang play the card shown in her cover art here, as well as play the fire monarchs. As for Blake, I always enjoy having her play the Lunalight cards, (But please Konomi, add more cards to this archetype already so I can have her make some new fusions). Overall, I do like the friendship between these two here. Yang is helping Blake as much as she can to move forward, and Blake is accepting that help with a new mission in mind. I also think it is cool in this continuity that Blake wants to be a teacher like Alexis became in GX, it is a fitting goal for her. Zane finally has some people come back to him and Blake is now being a little less sheepish around him. Next chapter, we will have a return back to Jaden's group with a focus on Ruby and Weiss as they go to the card shop. After that, the big duel for Winter will be next to close out this arc. That is all for now, thanks for reading, and hope to see you in the next chapter.
Edit: Some small changes to the ending combos to fix the issue with Burial from a Different Dimension.
Now, time to answer some questions. I already talked about the idea of what decks I would give the rwby characters if I made this series later, but did not give any answers as I liked the ones I made here. But off the top of my head, I would probably say Weiss would have been more Ice Barrier that Gem-Knights, since those cards have a bit more variety to them and I could transition her to Nekroz later. Regarding everyone else, it is hard for me to say. At the end, other people have their own ideas for what cards they want these characters to play in their era of the game. I choose the fusion era, which limits a lot, but makes this a lot more thought provoking when I need to write a duel. Regarding showing the Vagabond, or an OC duelist to play a random archetype deck, I would say no. That is not something I feel I need to do in this series. If anything, I would only show the last turn of the duel, with our hero winning by beating that archetype's boss monster. When I get to the tournament duels, each battle is meant to be against a named opponent from the series of GX, ARC-V, or RWBY. Regarding Chazz using more Ojama cards, that is a maybe. I think next duel I want him to use more of the new Armed Dragon cards than anything else. Finally, as to what got me into Yu-Gi-Oh, it was the first series anime soon followed by the card game once I saw them selling packs in a store. I have played for a while, hopped in and out multiple times, but it still has been a huge part of my life. Those were all the questions I had, feel free to ask more, and I will answer them in the next chapter.
