AN: Hello, I have the next chapter here. This one was planned for later, but I was organizing some duels, I moved this one up since it fits more in place here. Of all the duels I have written, this one was one of the hardest on a technical and thematic level. From the title, you know who is up again. Hope you enjoy this chapter, leave a review with your comments and questions, and have a nice day.

See Datasheet Chapter for cover art details.

Chapter 58 – The Twilightsworn

Near the Duel Academy building, Ruby emerged from the woods to run over to Weiss, Blake, Yang, Bastion, Alexis, and Chazz all talking among themselves, "I came as soon as I got the message," Ruby said while catching her breath, then looked to Bastion, "You're sure she said Cinder?"

"I'm afraid so," Bastion responded, his arms crossed, "I wasn't sure she if she meant before your encounter with that woman, but I was not able to find Emerald again after our duel."

"We couldn't find Mercury after ours either." Chazz added on, "But Atticus was possessed the same way as when he was a part of the Shadow Riders." The group then looked over to Jaden emerging from the woods, "And it looks like the Slacker is the last to get the news."

"Hey, running back was a lot harder than it looks." Jaden responded, "But I need to tell you, something is happening to people on this island. I dueled Coco and she was possessed partway through."

"Like the way Pyrrha or Glynda was before?" Yang asked.

"No," Jaden responded, "Like the way I was last year." He then looked around, "But, didn't Blair get here to tell you that already?"

"We haven't seen her yet," Blake responded, "Coco came by and joined Velvet with the others who lost the tournament already."

"Blair was the only one who didn't respond to my message." Bastion added.

"Oh no," Jaden said as he realized, "I shouldn't have let her go back alone." He said with his fist clenched, "What if she ran into Cinder." The spirited Slifer Red said as his mind showed the image of Salem in his mind, "Or her."

"Damnit," Yang responded, "Why can't that woman just stay gone." She then looked over to Alexis with a look of worry, "What is it?"

"Atticus also mentioned something before he passed out from exhaustion," Alexis responded, "He mentioned he ran into…Adam."

"What!?" The others said in shock Yang and Jaden each had a look of torment before looking to Blake, who hyperventilated as she took a step back.

"There's no way, he can't be back." Blake said hugging herself, "He can't be back."

"Blake, it's gonna be okay," Yang said as she held her friend close, "No matter what we're up against, we'll beat them together."

Suddenly, a voice was heard approaching, "We admire your dedication to protecting others." They turned to see it was Glynda speaking while accompanied by Sienna, "But you can leave this one to the adults."

"The Chancellor has already tasked us with dealing with these sudden threats," Sienna responded.

"But you don't understand, we-" Alexis was saying until getting cut off.

"We do understand, and frankly, will not allow our students to be tormented by these fiends any longer." Glynda said as she adjusted her glasses, "I for one will deal with Cinder myself, something I should have done last year."

"And even if Adam is back, I forbid any of you from dueling him." Sienna said as she looked at Jaden, Yang, and Blake, "I have a score to settle with that bastard."

"We aren't going to stay here and do nothing," Jaden responded.

"We want to help," Yang added.

"Yes," Blake said as she pushed away from Yang, a focused look on her face, "We can't run away from this."

"She's right, we need to stay calm and plan for our next move. Right, Ruby?" Weiss added before she turned to the hooded Slifer Red, but that person was gone, "Ruby?" the heiress Obelisk Blue said she saw only a trail of rose petals back in the woods, "Oh no."

Rushing through the woods, Ruby scanned the area as she searched for her friend, "Blair, where are you!?" she said with a look of panic, "Please, let me find you safe and not hurt. Blair! Blair!" the hooded Slifer Red continued to call out before seeing someone in the woods. However, it was one of the last people she wanted to meet here.

"My, you're in a rush." Yuri spoke with a smile, "Are you looking for someone?"

"I'm searching for Blair, have you seen her?" Ruby asked as he smirked, "Have you seen her!?" she repeated.

"Maybe, I'm not sure?" Yuri responded, causing Ruby to scowl, "But, I think I saw someone who looked like that girl walking that way." He said while pointing. Ruby was about to speed off before the sadistic Obelisk Blue spoke again, "You won't be able to save her, I hope you know that." He said as Ruby stopped, her back towards him, "You will either have to hurt your friend or lose trying."

"…I plan to do neither of those things." Ruby said before turning, a glare in her silver eyes, "And when I save Blair, I will deal with you once and for all."

"Oh, I guess we're skipping to the end of your fairytale then?" Yuri responded with a smile, "Very well, I look forward to it, Ruby Rose." He said before the hooded Slifer Red sped off again into the woods.

Ruby continued to run until she made it to a clearing. In looking around, she gasped as the maiden Slifer Red was in the center, "Blair!" Ruby called out with a smile, "Thank goodness your safe." She said as Blair turned around.

"No thanks to you," Blair spoke in a cold voice, "You were never a true friend to me, Ruby."

"Blair?" Ruby said in worry before noticing a change in her friend's appearance, "Your eyes, why are they golden?"

"I guess you can say I see the truth now," Blair responded, "That I could never grow to surpass you if I was stuck under your hood." She said before readying her duel disk, "Now, let's end this friendship like how we dueled as kids. Alone in the woods."

"Blair," Ruby said before gritting her teeth, "Whoever you are, possessing my friend, I will defeat you!" she said while readying her duel disk.

"Duel!" Ruby and Blair said as they started the match.

Ruby: 4000 Life Points

Blair: 4000 Life Points

"I'll go first," Blair said as she drew, "I play Charge of the Light Brigade to add Ryco from my deck to my hand after I send three cards from the top of my deck to the graveyard." She said after milling and putting the card in her hand, "I then set a monster and two other cards face down."

"My turn," Ruby said as she drew, putting the card in her hand to use a different spell, "I play Book of Taiyo, flipping your monster face up." She said as the set monster revealed itself as Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, (200 ATK / 100 DEF). "Blair, I know your monsters, you can't trick me that easily. The only card on my field you can destroy is my spell card as a chain."

"Yes, I suppose so." Blair said as the book was shattered, "And I send three more cards from the top of my deck to the graveyard." She said while doing so, "You were always smarter than me, despite the fact I saw you picking your nose in class. Always trying your best when others were hoping to just skate by." The maiden Slifer red said before scowling, "It made me sick to be friends with such a try-hard."

"…I play the field spell, Aromage Garden." Ruby said as the open area was replaced with a flowery garden, "Next, I summon Aromage Jasmine in defense mode." She said as the I summon Aromage Jasmine in defense mode." She said as a small girl in a light blue attire and hair jumped out of the flowers, (100 ATK / 1900 DEF). "Next, I activate Aroma Garden's effect. It gives me 500 life points. And since I gained life points with Jasmine on the field, I draw a card." Ruby said before doing so.

Ruby: 4000 + 500 = 4500 Life Points

"And while I have no monsters in my graveyard," Ruby said as she played the card she drew, "I summon Guardian Eatos from my hand." She said as the angelic huntress descend onto the battlefield, (2500 ATK / 2000 DEF).

"Heh, and you were mocking me for being predictable," Blair responded one of her traps revealing itself, "I activate Vanquishing Light, so I can tribute Ryko to destroy your Eatos." She said as the Lightsworn hunter leaped into the air towards the angelic huntress. However, a blinding light shrouded the two before both left the field, "Remind you of something, like a certain day neither of us can forget?"

"Don't," Ruby said with a scowl, "Please, stop talking with her memories. That isn't how she feels!"

"How can you be so sure?" Blair asked, "What makes you such a good judge of character?" she said with her arms crossed, "All you do is play the goodie-goodie two-shoe type. Thinking you're always in the right because it's the nice option." She said before scowling, "But sometimes being nice means others will take advantage of you until there is nothing left."

"Stop it!" Ruby shouted, "I set one card and end my turn."

"Heh, deny it all you want, but you know I'm right." Blair said as she drew, smirking at the result, "First, I reveal my other face down, Graceful Revival, allowing me to get back Ryko." She said as the Lightsworn Hunter reappeared, (200 ATK / 100 DEF). "Next, I summon Ryko." She said as Ruby had a look of confusion. Another Ryko appeared, however, it was draped in a black and gold cloak with a dagger in its fang, (200 ATK / 100 DEF). "I should mention this Ryko is the Twilightsworn Fighter."

"Twilightsworn?" Ruby said, "When did you-"

"I use this Ryko's effect. By banishing a Lightsworn from my hand, I can banish your Jasmine on the field!" Blair said as she put away her Wulf, causing the Lightsworn Fighter's dagger to glow with a holy light before tossing it towards Ruby's monster.

"Not so fast, I play my facedown card, Frozen Rose!" Ruby responded, picking up Jasmine's card, "I can send her to the graveyard to prevent you from banishing her." She said before ducking the dagger, seeing it imbed in a tree behind her, "Wait, is the damage real?"

"Now you're now wide open," Blair said as she pointed, "Ryko attacks you directly, followed by my other Ryko."

Ruby looked back in panic as both the white wolves charged and pounced on her, pinning her to the ground as they bit into her body, "AAAAAAAAAA!" the red hooded girl screamed as they chomped at her right arm and left leg, "AAAAAAAA!" she continued to scream until both wolves let go, returning to Blair's sides.

Ruby: 4000 – 200 – 200 = 4100 Life Points

"That's what should have happened all those years ago," Blair said as Ruby struggled to push herself up, "Maybe then your mother would still be alive."

In hearing that, Ruby's body froze. Her teeth grit as her right hand clenched tighter than she had ever done before, then took a few breaths, "…Is your turn done?" Ruby asked as Blair smirked, setting a card, "Okay, due to Frozen Rose's effect and since I sent a plant monster to the grave, I draw two and discard one." She said as did so, sending a monster to the graveyard, "Now, it's my turn." The hooded Slifer Red then drew before taking two cards out of her hand, "I play Swords of Revealing Light and set one card face down." She said as the holy blades locked Blair's monster in place, "That ends my turn."

"That's all, not even a monster?" Blair asked, "How do you expect to win without attacking me?"

"I'm going to win this duel," Ruby responded, "But I'm not going to hurt my friend." She said before looking at Blair's deck, then went into thought, "Lightsworn decks cannot duel for many turns. If I can stall her long enough, she will deck out." Ruby then focused her stance, "Blair, I will save you!"

"Typical Ruby," Blair said as she drew, "Why do I need to be saved when I finally have the power to beat you? I play the spell Solar Recharge. By sending a Lightsworn from my hand to the graveyard, I can draw two cards, then mill two cards from my deck." She said before doing so, smiling at the results, "Speaking of power, here is the card that will be your end. Since I have four Lightsworn monsters in my graveyard, I can special summon Judgement Dragon!" the maiden Slifer Red said as a beam of light shined down from the sky, leading to the ultimate Lightsworn descending from the sky, (3000 ATK / 2600 DEF). "And now, for 1000 life points, I can destroy all other cards on the field. Go, Absolute Light Force!" Blair said as her monster started unleashing an expanding wave of energy that started to obliterate everything.

Blair: 4000 – 1000 = 3000 Life Points

"Not so fast, I reveal my face-down card Nitwit Outwit." Ruby said while showing her Tytannial, Princess of Camellias, "I can discard a monster to lower your dragon's attack point by my card's attack." She said as Judgment Dragon recoiled in a reddish aura.

"Too bad I also have a trap card I'm revealing before destruction, Twilight Clothes." Blair said as she took four cards from her graveyard, "Now I can banish all my Lightsworn monsters to give my Judgement Dragon 200 attack points for each one until the end of turn." She said as the red aura weakened on the ultimate Lightsworn, allowing its holy light to continue expanding, (3000 – 2800 + (4 X 200) = 1000 ATK). The traps were obliterated, as well as the pair of Ryko monsters. Even the Sword of Revealing Lighter was extinguished by the blast wave.

"Even if you attack me directly, I will still have plenty of life points left," Ruby responded, "And while your boost is until the end phase, my trap card is permanent reduction."

"Hahaha, you think you will have a lot of life points left at the end of this turn?" Blair responded, showing the last card in her hand, "I have other plans for you. You have seen my new Twilightsworn monsters, but now you face my newest dragon." She said as Ruby gasped, "Behold, with more than four, banished Lightsworn monsters, I can summon out Punishment Dragon." She said as the shadow of Judgment Dragon expanded, revealing a new creature to emerge. It was a pitch-black dragon with red eyes and claws as well, (3000 ATK / 2600 DEF). The ultimate Twilightsworn's roar pulsates throughout the area as Ruby shielded herself from the two dragons glaring down at her, "Now, both my monsters attack yours directly. Go, Pure Illumination and Night Shade Beams!" Blair declared as both dragons unleashed a white and black respective stream of energy from their mouths.

"I discard Aromaseraphy Angelica," Ruby said as she sent her last card to the graveyard, "Now I can target an Aromage monster in my graveyard and gain life points equal to its attack."

"Isn't the only Aromage monster in your graveyard Jasmine with 100 attack points?" Blair asked.

"No, remember Frozen Rose." Ruby responded, "I discard Aromage Bergamot, so I can gain back 2400 life points."

"Heh, I don't think so." Blair said with a smirk, "I use Punishment Dragon's effect. For 1000 life points and excluding Lightsworn monsters, all cards in our graveyards and banished zones are returned to the decks."

Blair: 3000 – 1000 = 2000 Life Points

"WHAT!?" Ruby exclaimed as every card in her graveyard was put back into her deck, leaving her with no cards at all to target. She then looked up at the beams about to collide with her body, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" the hooded Slifer Red screams as she was encompassed by the combined attacks of the ultimate Lightsworn and Twilightsworn. She fell to her knees as her body still radiated smoke from the assault.

Ruby: 4100 – 1000 – 3000 = 100 Life Points

"Look at you, pathetic." Blair spoke with her arms crossed, "If you wanted to save me, you should have put more effort into your offense instead of playing to stall me out." She said before showing her duel disk, "Now, my deck has been restored to thirty-one cards. However, I must mill four more due to Judgement Dragon's effect. And because of Punishment Dragon, I must mill another four cards." She said before sending the cards to the graveyard. At the same time, the power of Twilight Clothes left the ultimate Lightsworn, (1000 – 800 = 200 ATK). "You could win if you draw your Eatos, but you have every other card in your deck to draw from now as well."

"Even so," Ruby said as she started to stand up, "I am not going to lose hope." She said before focusing on Blair, "And I will save you, I draw!" the hooded Slifer Red said before looking at the card and playing it, "I play Pot of Greed, giving me two cards." She said before drawing again, playing one instantly, "I play Lonefire Blossom in attack mode." She said as the plant with bud in the shape of a lite bomb appeared, (500 ATK / 1400 DEF) "Now, I can tribute this card to special summon a plant monster from your deck." She said as the wick of the bomb plant went out.

"Tsk," Blair gritted her teeth as a line of sweat went down her face.

"I pick Chirubime, Princess of Autumn Leaves in defense mode," Ruby said as the smoke cleared with a massive red flower appeared. It bloomed to reveal a woman in a leafy green dress and fall leaves for hair, (1800 ATK / 2800 DEF). "Next, I play the card you sent back to my deck, Swords of Revealing Light!" Ruby said as the holy blades appeared over the area again, "I end my turn."

"Ha, you could have won if you weren't so set in your ways." Blair said as she drew, "I can still use Judgment Dragon's effect once again. Paying 1000 life points to nuke the field of all other cards." She said as Judgment Dragon unleashed his light again, obliterating Punishment Dragon and Chirubime, as well as the Swords of Revealing Light.

Blair: 2000 – 1000 = 1000 Life Points

"I knew you would do that, so I activate Chirubime's effect." Ruby responded, "If she is destroyed by an opponent's effect, she can let me special summon a plant monster from my deck." She said as a card ejected, "I pick Cherry Inmato in defense mode." She said as a cherry tomato person in a light green gown was seen in an iron cage, (700 ATK / 400 DEF).

"I'm not done yet, I summon Jain, Lightsworn Paladin in attack mode," Blair said as her white armored knight appeared with his light sword drawn, (1800 ATK / 1200 DEF). "Go, destroy that caged plant!" she called out with Jain rushing in with his blade glowing a holy light before it just the cage and the Cherry Inmato in half. The Lightsworn paladin jumped back before Ruby's monster exploded, "And now, Judgement Dragon can end this by attacking you directly-" The maiden Slifer Red was saying until the smoke cleared, revealing two more Cherry Inmato monsters on the field.

"When Cherry Inmato is destroyed, I can summon two more Inmato monsters from my deck in defense mode as well." Ruby said before smiling, "And both have more than enough stats to block your Judgment Dragon from attacking."

"Grr, I end my turn." Blair said, "Due to Judgment and Jain, I have to mill six cards total from my deck." She said before doing so.

"I draw," Ruby said as she looked at the card, "I set one monster and end my turn."

"It's my turn," Blair said as she drew, "I summon Jain, Twilightsworn General to the field. She said as the white knight was seen again. However, he now wore a black cloak over his armor and held a black blade with a red lining, (1800 ATK / 1200 DEF). "Now, both attack your Cherry Inmato monster." The Maiden Slifer Red said as the Paladin and General slashed the changed pants again, causing two explosions. Blair then looked at Ruby's set monster, "No matter what you set, I can still break your vow not to hurt me if I take the recoil. Judgment Dragon!" She said as her ultimate Lightsworn unleashed its beam of light on the set card.

The card was revealed to be a small child in a deep dark green robe and blond hair, (800 ATK / 0 DEF). "Aromage Laurier has no defense points, so you take no recoil." Ruby called out as her monster was destroyed, "I that's all, you have to mill more at the end of your turn." She said before looking to the Twilightsworn General, "And if I had to guess you have to mill two more cards from his effect since another Lightsworn active its own."

"Tsk, I do," Blair said as she milled eight cards. However, she smiled as she picked one of them to show Ruby, "It looks like I milled Twilight Twin Dragons. This lets me add Punishment Dragon from the graveyard to my hand." She said before adding the ultimate Twilightsworn back, "However, I need to banish the top four cards of my deck as well. But that will not matter, my next turn," She said with a sinister smile, "I will destroy you."

"I draw," Ruby said before looking at the card, "…I'm sorry, Blair." She said with her eyes closed, "I should have known you were in pain like this." the hooded Slifer Red said with her eyes partly opening with a soft smile, "I just wanted to make sure everyone was happy and safe…like she did." Ruby then focused her gaze on her opponent, "I play Book of Eclipse, flipping all your monsters to face down defense mode." She said as the two Jain monsters and Judgment Dragon was set, "Now, I end my turn. Which means all your monster is flipped face up and Judgment Dragon gains its original attack back." the hooded Slifer Red said as both Jains were seen in a blocking stance and the ultimate Lightsworn roared with the reddish aura removed, (1800 ATK / 1200 DEF). "Finally, you draw cards equal to the monster flipped up by this card."

"You just wasted your only card left, gave back my monster's power, and let me draw cards?" Blair said before gaining the three cards, then seeing Ruby lower her head, "You have given up." She said at the start of her turn, "Very well, I'll put you out of your misery. I dr-" Blair was saying until looking back at her duel disk, "Eh?" She said as there were no cards left in her deck, "Impossible, how could I-"

"You have no cards left to draw," Ruby said as looked up, "Through deck out, you lose." She said with a focused gaze in her silver eyes, "Now, get out of my friend's body!"

"Aaaaaa…AAAAAAAAAAA!" Blair screamed as dark energy erupted out of her body, her monster vanishing as the duel ended. She fell to her knees, followed by Ruby doing the same, "Uh…" Blair said before opening her eyes again, "Ruby… What happened?" she said as her eyes were back to normal, "Are you okay, you look hurt?"

"I'll be fine." Ruby said with a smile, tears rolling down her face, "I'm just so glad you're safe."

"I don't understand, what happened?" Blair asked, her right hand on her head, "I was running through the woods before I remember…" She said before gasping, "That's right, Ruby, I need to tell you. There's someone-" Suddenly, Blair was cut off mid-thought.

Ruby looked in confusion as a violet light shined over the area. In regaining her sight, the maiden Slifer Red was gone. Ruby gasped as she discovered someone else behind where Blair stood, "See, I told you." Yuri said as he held a card with Blair's face on it, while he had a sadistic smile on his, "It was all hopeless."

Ruby had a mixed look of shock and horror on her face as she looked at Yuri. However, those emotions turned to rage as she gritted her teeth. Her tears dried as her fist clenched to the point of blood seeping through the gaps between the fingers, "YURI!" She screamed as she stood back up, rushing towards him with her duel disk reeled back.

Yuri put the card away before taking out his duel disk, causing the energy blade to eject as it clashed with Ruby's design, "Now, now, that's not how we settle things here." Yuri said with a smirk as Ruby remained berserk, "Let's end this properly, shall we?" he said before both pushed each other back, preparing their decks.

"Duel!" The two said as the match of hopelessness had begun.

Ruby: 4000 Life Points

Yuri: 4000 Life Points

AN: There you go, Ruby managed to win a duel without ever attacking her opponent. I was very worried about this one, even talking with some people to make sure it was all good before I would post it. This duel has a lot of call backs to their first one in chapter 21, as well as the flashback in that chapter. Blair mixed her Lightsworn with the Twilightsworn for the absolute chaos that was this duel. Despite the added cards, her deck size was still only forty cards total for consistency. Still, with determination, Ruby managed to save her…until Yuri carded Blair. Now is the battle over thirty chapters in the making, the duel of the two plant users, Ruby verse Yuri. That is all for now, thanks for reading, and hope to see you in the next chapter.

Now, time to answer some questions. Not really a question, but a comment was made that I would be making a second Yu-Gi-Oh x RWBY fanfic. The sort of it is no. I want to still do duels, but I have my series Sandbox of Remnants as the setting for where I can give other characters decks without retelling things like with Duel Academy's New Students. I knew if I did something like I did here with GX for 5Ds or even DM, it would take me more years than I have free to do this as a hobby. Also, I was told a few things about the last duel I messed up on. Thunder LV10 does not pop on player's turn, only opponent's tur. I didn't realize and while I could fix by having Chazz use Raigeki instead, it does undercut his monster a lot. So, I will keep it the way it is for that chapter. If you know anime effects, think of that like a Fanfic effect. I will not do these often; these just happen the further I get into writing these chapters in a row. Also, Natasha coming back after not being proper ritual summoned. I thought this was okay because it was its own effect, but I guess not. This is not the first time I have made this kind of error, hopefully is the last, but I maintain that this ruling is stupid. Finally, some asked why Mercury did not bust out Red-Eyes Dragoon. Well, he does not have Dark Magician in his deck. He was able to make it before because of Magician of Dark Illusion, whose name only changes when he is on the field. And if he could make Dragoon that easy every time, he would be much more of a threat than he was supposed to be for this series. Those were all the questions I had, feel free to ask more, and I will answer them in the next chapter.
