Chapter 61 – The Vampiric Shadow Rider

Near the entrance of Duel Academy, Jaden reconvened with his friends. Neo, Sora, and Coco accompanying him with, the petit pro duelist had just explained with history of Yuri and Cinder to the rest of the group.

"I can't believe this." Weiss spoke, "You knew Yuri this whole time?"

"Why didn't you say anything?" Yang slightly shouted.

"Nobody asked." Sora responded, turning to his partner, "I didn't know about Neo's involvement in all of this until a few minutes ago either."

"…" Neo lowered her head in remorse.

"Damnit, I knew that brat was trouble, but this," Chazz responded.

"What about Ruby or Blair, any luck finding either of them?" Jaden asked but was met with disheartened looks.

"Ruby's trial lead to nowhere. We can't find her, nor Blair." Blake answered.

"We can't give up, they're out there somewhere." Jaden responded, "We need to find them before Yuri or Cinder do."

"Agreed, regardless of what Professors Goodwitch and Khan said, we need to help stop this threat." Alexis declared.

"Indeed," Bastion said before seeing Coco searching, "What is it?" he said before realizing something, "Wait, where's Velvet?"

"She wasn't with you guys?" Coco asked.

"No, she told me she was heading back to you after I sent out the text to others about Cinder." Bastion responded, "That was right when communications went done, I didn't even get a chance to message everyone about a meet-up."

"You let her go alone after learning about a psychopath on this island!?" Coco shouted at Bastion.

"She said it was faster this way." Bastion responded, then looked down in remorse, "But, you're right, how could I be so foolish to let her go alone now."

"We can't dwell on that now," Jaden spoke up, "We need to focus on making the right choices."

"Which means we need to find the others," Weiss added.

"Zane, Nora, Hassleberry, and Pyrrha are all on the other side of the island." Chazz spoke, "They're all tough, but if they get jumped."

"We need to warn them." Blake said, "But how do we know where-"

"Leave that to our secret weapon." Yang spoke, causing the others to look in confusion, but saw her kneeling to Zwei, "We may not know where they are, but he will give us a general direction. Now, everyone gives him something to get the scent of a person. A card you traded with them, anything."

"Arf!" Zwei barked. The group then gathered what they could before showing it to the corgi. Blake showed her Future Fusion card, her hand slightly trembling as she held it close, but remained focused, "Arf!" he pointed his body towards a direction each time, "Arf!"

"Good boy," Yang petted her dog, then looked to Bastion, who made a map in the dirt of directions, "So, what do you got?"

"It looks like Ruby is somewhere Northwest, while Zane and Hassleberry are near the same direction." Bastion answered, "Pyrrha is to the East, Nora is Southeast, and Velvet is South." He said with a look of worry, "The only one he could not find is Blair's scent."

"Still, this is a good start." Chazz informed, "We should split up into teams."

"I'll take Zwei and track Ruby, he knows her scent the best." Yang responded, "Things go well, we run into Zane and Dreads on the way for extra backup."

"I'll come with you," Blake added.

"Me too," Weiss said as well.

"I'll go too," Jaden said before looking to the others.

"The rest of us will comb the area based on what Zwei has shown us." Alexis said, "Everybody, stay safe." They all nodded before splitting up in their directions, hoping to find the person before it was too late.

Meanwhile.

Sienna and Glynda walked down a pathway in the woods, "Do you think those students will listen to us?" The head teacher of Ra Yellow asked.

"Considering one of them is Jaden, no." Sienna answered, "So, we need to finish this fast."

"Indeed." Glynda responded, taking out her tablet device, "Before communication went out, I received a message from the chancellor on an unknown structure being found."

"Unknown structure?" Sienna said before they reach the edge of the path, discovering a massive Victorian castle in the middle of the sea, only a stone pathway leading to the entrance. The sky was covered in a thick grey fog, blocking out the sun on this part of the island, "Oh, that." She said while Glynda started walking on the stone path, "Hold up, I'm coming."

"We must be careful, if Cinder is not here, then this is certainly one of her new allies doing." Glynda spoke before they reached the doorway, "The damage they are capable of is not to be underestimated."

"You seem to speak from experience," Sienna said as Glynda went silent for a moment.

"I…have made choices I wish could do over again." Glynda responded, "People I should not have trusted, and people who should not have trusted me." She said before turning to Sienna, "I won't let Cinder cause more chaos as she did before. This time, I will be the one to stop her."

"I see," Sienna responded with a smirk, "You know, I think you're a bit hard on yourself." She said before shrugging, "Then again, I heard you are a bit cold blooded at times."

"You're not the first one to tell me that," Glynda responded as she had a half smile.

The two entered the castle and began to walk down the halls. However, in the darkness of a corner of the ceil, a black bat watched on with red eyes. It then flew away out a window before reaching the balcony at the top of the castle. There, a woman with long green hair and a blood-red dress was seen. She stared into the bat's eyes changed to red as well for a second. "I see, our first guests are those two teachers." She spoke with a smile, "The red one will be a bit more of a challenge, but the yellow one will be easy prey." She said as she breathed a red mist, her fangs flaring while she raised her right hand, "Now, time for the games to begin." She said before snapping her fingers.

Lower down in the castle, the sound echoed to reach Glynda and Sienna's location, "What was that?" Sienna said as she stopped, looking around the area.

"Whatever it was, we cannot let it distract us," Glynda responded as she continued to walk.

"Yeah, you're right, we need to-" Sienna was saying until a trapdoor opened at her feet, "Eh?" she said before realizing she was falling, "AAAAAHHHH!" The head teacher of Slifer Red screamed.

"Sienna!" Glynda panicked as she turned around and went to the trapdoor, but it closed before could reach it, "Sienna!" Glynda screamed again but then heard a chuckle through the halls. The head teacher of Ra Yellow got up and went towards the voice, a look of rage in her eyes.

She made her way to a doorway, crashing through it before coming it a sudden stop. There a wide-open room with a massive pit in the center was seen. Two small balconies faced opposite to one another, one end already having a person standing on it, "Welcome to my Castle." the woman in the blood dress spoke while wielding a golden duel disk, the blades like that of a bat wing, "I am Camula, a vampire of age long forgot by time."

"A vampire!?" Glynda responded.

"Yes, but as well," Camila said as she turned on her duel disk, "I'm a Shadow Rider." She said as Glynda glared at her, "If you do not wish to meet the same fate as your friend, you will need to defeat me in a duel."

Glynda adjusted her glasses as she walked to the other balcony, "Very well, I shall make quick work of you."

"Duel!" the two said as the battle in the vampiric castle had begun.

Glynda: 4000 Life Points

Camula: 4000 Life Points

"I'll go first," Camula said as she drew, smiling at the result, "I summon Vampire Ghost in attack mode." She said as a spirit formed over the void, taking the shape of a cloaked man with red eyes and fangs, (1500 ATK / 0 DEF). "With his effect, I discard a vampire card to send one card from my hand a vampire monster to my hand with a higher level than Ghost, and send one from my deck graveyard with a lower level." She said while moving the cards from her deck to the respective placements, then took two other cards from her hand, "I'll set these and end my turn."

"I draw." Glynda said as she drew, then opened her field spell slot, "I activate Magical Citadel of Endymion."

"Are you sure, because I have a counter trap," Camula said as she revealed one of her facedown cards, "Magic Drain, which will negate your card unless you wish to discard another spell."

"Fine, I'll play the cost," Glynda said as she sent another spell card from her hand to the graveyard, then played her field spell. The area with filled with a transcendent light as Camula shielded herself from it, "Now, I summon Defender, the Magical Knight in attack mode." She said as an armored mage with a dagger and great shield seen, a gem in his shield glowing, (1600 ATK / 2000 DEF). "Go, attack her Vampire Ghost." She said as her knight dashed in.

"Except I had two cards face down, and I will activate the other one now." Camula responded, "Vampire Takeover, this allows me to activate Vampire Kingdom from my deck." She said as her field spell slot opened, allowing her to play a card. Suddenly, the light as Glynda's field spell broke. Behind the Vampiric Shadow Rider, the curtains opened as blood moon illuminated the room. "As well, I can summon a vampire from my graveyard, like the one I discarded early. Rise, Vampire Lord!" she said as the void below showed a man with teal hair ascending, his purple skin matched that of the claw over his cloak. He bowed before taking a kneeling stance, (2000 ATK / 1500 DEF). "Now, your attack is still underway, but with my field spell, all Vampire monsters gain 500 attack points at the damage step," Camula said as Ghost gained a red aura, then expelled a blast of ectoplasm from its mouth, (1500 + 500 = 2000 ATK).

Glynda: 4000 – 400 = 3600 Life Points

Defender blocked with his shield, but the light on the gem faded away. "By removing the spell counter, my monster is not destroyed," Glynda said as the assault ended and Vampire Ghost lost the aura, (2000 – 500 = 1500 ATK). "I end with one card face down."

"My turn." Camula said as she drew, smiling again at the results, "I summon Vampire Retainer!" she said as half-black-beast half-white-wolf was summoned to the field, (1200 ATK / 0 DEF). "Now, I switch Lord to attack mode and destroy your Defender." The Vampiric Shadow Rider said as her monster stood up and rushed towards defender, gaining a red aura before punching through the shield to destroy the magical knight. (2000 + 500 = 2500 ATK).

Glynda: 3600 – 900 = 2700 Life Points

"Thanks to Lord's effect, you have to mill a card type from your deck." Camula said as she pointed, "And I pick spell cards." She said as her monster also lost its red aura, (2500 – 500 = 2000 ATK). "And with that, the other effect of my kingdom activates. For sending a Dark Vampire from my deck to the graveyard as well, I can destroy one card on the field."

"Your strategy seems to be making me unable to use my spell cards." Glynda said while sending a card from her deck to the graveyard, "Almost as if you knew how my deck plays."

"So, you finally caught on." Camula responded while sending a card from her deck to the grave, looking at the hanging bats on the ceiling, "My bats have been watching your duels, and have informed me of your strategies. Your spell cards are very deadly, as well as your ability to shut down the opponent's use of them. But I only needed to act quickly before you could facilitate a comeback." She said as one of Glynda's face-downs exploded, "Now, both of my other vampires will attack you directly!" Camula said as Retainer and Ghost rushed in with red auras, the combined attack equaling that of Glynda's life points. However, they were stopped as the smoke cleared. In their way was a small child in a white, glasslike dress and long blue hair. She yawned with one hand on her mouth, the other holding a staff, "What!?"

"If I had to guess, you only researched me before my trip to the mainland." Glynda spoke, "However, during my visit, I decided to upgrade my deck with a new archetype in case I had to duel someone like you." She said before adjusting her glasses, "Before my card was destroyed, I activated it, Witchcrafter Demonstration. This card lets me special summon a Witchcrafter from my hand without you being able to stop me. And I picked Witchcrafter Master Verre in defense mode." She said as her new spellcaster looked on with half-open eyes, (1000 ATK / 2800 DEF).

"Tsk." Camula scoffed, "You think this will be enough to beat me?" She asked as Glynda did not say a word but had a small grin form.

Meanwhile.

"Gah, where am I?" Sienna said as she regained consciousness. She tried to stand up but realized she was on some kind of lumpy surface. Upon making it to solid ground, she walked toward candlelight in the distance. As she approached it, the realization of where she was dawned on her. The room was decorated with the decayed skeletal bodies of prisoners. They were locked in cages, as well as chained to walls, "This…this is a torture chamber." Sienna said before hearing something fall nearby. She turned to the sound, discovering something approaching from the shadows.

"Kikiki," a walking skeleton's bones crackled as it approached, the void in its eyes shining a red light.

"You've got to kidding me," Sienna said before a line of sweat went down her forehead, followed by her smirking, "Well, I take it you don't want to settle this with a card game?"

"KI!" the skeleton leapt to Sienna, causing her to jump out of the way. She readied for a counterattack, but then saw more red lights in the shadows. Soon a horde of skeletons started to approach her.

"Damnit, I need a weapon," Sienna said as she started to look for one on a nearby table. While she saw many tortuous tools, age had rooted them to be useless. However, one weapon caught her eye as she reached for it.

"Kikiki-" A skeleton spoke before its skull with meet with the crack of a whip, splitting its jaw in half. The other skeletons looked on in shock before seeing Sienna repose with a chain whip that had a metal weight at the end.

"Okay, I can work with this." Sienna said before cracking her whip, "Now, who else wants some?" She said with a smirk as the horde approached.

Meanwhile.

"I believe it's my turn." Glynda said as she drew, "I play Witchcrafter Creation. This lets me add a Witchcrafter monster to my hand. I pick and then summon Witchcrafter Potterie." She said as a small with short blond hair like her was summoned to the field, (0 ATK / 2000 DEF). "Now, by tributing her and discarding one spell card, I can special summon a new Witchcrafter monster from my deck. This time, I pick Witchcrafter Golem Aruru." She was a massive doll-like mage with a war hammer for a staff. She held two wands in her other hand and a massive set of scissors on her hip, (2800 ATK / 0 DEF).

"2800 attack!" Camula slightly gasped.

"I'm not done yet." Glynda said as she reached into her graveyard, "Since I have no cards in my hand, I can banish Potterie to add a Witchcrafter spell back to my hand. And I will pick the one I discarded this turn, Witchcrafter Collaboration." She said as both mages on her field raised their staffs. "Now, Aruru can attack twice this turn, and she will eliminate both your Ghost and Retainer." She said as both monsters gained attack from the field spell, but it was not enough to withstand the pulse wave of magic from the two mages.

Camula: 4000 – 800 – 1100 = 2100 Life Points

"I end my turn, which means I can use the other effect of Witchcrafter cards," Glynda said as she reached for her grave again, "If I control a Witchcrafter monster, and I did not use the spell's first effect this turn, I can add the spell card back to my hand."

"Tsk," Camula said as she saw Glynda pull out Witchcrafter Demonstration at the top of the pile, "It's my turn, I draw."

"Which means during your Standby Phase, I must add Aruru to my hand." She said as her massive golem mage faded away, leaving only Verre on her field, who yawned again.

"Are you mocking me with that child!?" Camula asked while enraged, then smile, "Well, it will not be around for long, Hahahaha!" she said as her jaw unhinged, her tongue flopping out, and her fangs growing sharper, "I now banish my Vampire Lord to summon out Vampire Genesis!" the vampiric Shadow Rider said her monster faded, replaced with a massive purple bat monstrosity, (3000 ATK / 2100 DEF).

"Is that all?" Glynda asked.

"No, you will feel the terror of the vampire's return!" Camula responded, "I discard two vampire cards to revive Vampire Retainer, and the monster I milled for Ghost effect before, Vampire Familiar." She said as the black and white beast reappeared, (1200 ATK / 0 DEF). followed by a flock of bats with one red eye, (500 ATK / 0 DEF), "I now tribute both for my true lord, Vampire Voivode!" she said as a massive vampiric noble was summoned, dressed in white with a red clock while wielding a black trident, (2800 ATK / 2100 DEF), "Both creatures of the night shall rend your soul! Vampire Genesis, destroy that child with Blood Lust Crash. And then, Vampire Voivode, attack her directly, Hahahahaha!" Camula laughed as her monsters did so with Genesis unleashing a bloody mist from its body in the form of razor wind, gaining a red aura as well, (3000 + 500 = 3500 ATK). Verre looked on and yawned at the oncoming attack, then raised her wand. With it, a light shined as it repelled the winds and send it back to Camula and into the wall, "What!?"

Camula: 2100 – 2300 = 0 Life Points

"WHAT!?" Camula screamed as her life points hit zero, "HOW!?"

"Vampire's skills are all related to fear, overpowering the weak, and pretending to be invincible." Glynda commented, "When a Magician only must focus on misdirection. Master Verre's has a quick effect. I can reveal as many spell cards as possible in my hand with different names, and then my spellcasters gain 1000 attack and defense points for each one." She said as Verre remained with a powerful white aura, (2800 + (1000 X 3) = 5800 DEF)

"But you only had one, not three. Your hand was empty until you added Witchcrafter Demonstration back at the end phase." Camula responded as Glynda showed her hand, revealing this card and Golem Arrau. However, The head teacher of Ra Yellow move the cards in her hand, revealing two other spells; Witchcrafter Draping and Witchcrafter Holiday, "No, when did you-" Camula said before her eyes widened. She recalled the cost to Magic Drain before, and the moment she declared spell card with Vampire Lord's effect. After which, she recalled what Glynda said, "I end my turn, which means I can use the other effect of Witchcrafter spell cards. If I control a Witchcrafter monster, and I did not use the spell's first effect this turn, I can add the spell card back to my hand." In looking back at the graveyard, she saw Demonstration at the top, but now realized more than one card was added back then, "You planned this all in advanced?"

"You should never underestimate your opponent, no matter who or what they are," Glynda said as she adjusted her glasses.

"…I failed them," Camula said as she fell to her knees, the monster on her field fading away, "I could not resurrect our race."

"The age of the vampire is over." Glynda responded, "Now, tell me where Cinder is."

"…Hahahahaha, you think I will help you." Camula said as her mouth unhinged again, "The only thing I will give you is two holes in your neck!" she screamed before leaping over the pit in the middle of the room towards Glynda. However, Verre remained on the field as Glynda switched the card's position. With the wave of the Master Witchcrafter's staff, a blinding light radiated from it, "AAAAAAAHHHHH!" Camula screamed as her skin and flesh were fading away in dust, her eyeballs turning blood red, "GAAAAAAAA!" the vampiric shadow rider said as she powered through the pain towards her target.

Suddenly, a crack of a whip collided with Camula's face, splitting her skull as she was knocked back. The vampire shadow rider's body fell into the void while fading away into dust. Glynda had a look of confusion before turning around, and discovering Sienna with the whip in hand, "What'd I miss?" Sienna said before the castle began to shake, "Now what!?"

"This place must have been held together by her presence." Glynda commented, "We need to leave now!" she said before they too ran back the way they came towards the entrance. Upon exiting the castle, the rocky path started to crumble as they barely managed to reach the shoreline. Glynda looked on as remains crumbled into the sea, the fog lifted to reveal the sunlight. Sienna looked at the whip in her hand, noting it turn to dust as well before falling apart.

"I guess everything in there was linked to that thing," Sienna said with slight disappointment in her voice at the chain whip. She then noticed Glynda walking away, "Wow, no comment to what just happened?"

"Let's go, this means there are more Shadow Riders to deal with." Glynda responded, then adjusted her glasses, "And weapons like that are not allowed on the island."

"Says the teacher with a riding crop," Sienna said with half-open eyes, but Glynda had no reply. The headteacher of Slifer Red then sighed, followed by a grin, "She is cold-blooded."

AN: There you go, not every day I get to have the heroes humiliate their opponents like this. This was a bit hooky, but considering the last few chapters, something like this was overdue, and I am glad Glynda got a commanding win here. Camula is cool and was one of the best Shadow Riders of the original, as well as got a lot of deck upgrades since then. However, there is a reason why Glynda was picked over her as a Shadow Rider in season one here. Speaking of which, like Adam's new deck, I think these are cards that are a perfect fit for the rwby character. The Goodwitch with Witchcrafter cards, she even looks like Aruru from a distance, just with a bigger weapon. Sienna on the other hand switches Konami games she's playing and manages to use her original weapon for change. All I can say is I would watch a whole series of an anime of these two ladies on missions like this Gunsmith Cats style. Before all this, we got to see the young heroes find a way around zero communication with Zwei's help, which will set up how the next chapters will flow. That is all for now, thanks for reading, and hope to see you in the next chapter.

Now, time to answer some questions. Regarding the Duelist of Exploration pack with all the fire support, it of course happens after I eliminate the fire user in my series who would have gotten a lot of this. It would not have helped Axel win, but he would have had a better shot with some newer cards. Transcendrake seem cool, but look like Evolsaur from a distance, or Jurrac… why are there so many fire dinosaur archetypes. Nouvellez is the weirdest for me for the fact that is considered Hungry Burger support. Jack Atlas Structure deck is cool, but I don't know if it is for his 5Ds or ARC-V deck, or a combination of both. Regarding new Gate Guardian cards, I love them, and they are better than I could have dreamed of. I will work on the duel for the Paradox Brothers' return and have it ready in a couple of chapters. Regarding if Jaden v Adam will happen here, you will have to wait and see. Those were all the questions I had, feel free to ask more, and I will answer them in the next chapter.
