Chapter 13
Bucky drove as fast as he could to the hospital. He called Steve, telling him as much as Janice had told him, he needed his best friend at the hospital with him. Bucky had also tried calling Devin to see if he could give him a clearer picture. Devin's phone rang and eventually sent him to voice mail.
The bad feeling in his stomach grew as Bucky waited in the emergency room. He had asked the nurse behind the desk if Oakleigh's ambulance had arrived yet. It had not.
Trying to keep his cool, Bucky tried Devin again. Still, no answer. As he hung up Steve and Tony came through the emergency doors.
"Is O ok? Has she been assigned a room yet?" Steve asked him.
"No, she's not here yet."
Tony frowned, "What? That's impossible; she should have beaten us all here."
Tony left them, and headed back toward the nurse's station, Bucky and Steve followed.
"All ambulances are accounted for; none are carrying a patient with that name and description. Currently, there are no ambulances en route to this hospital."
Tony thanked the woman politely and ushered them away from listening ears.
"Somethings not right. Ride with us, Tin man; we are only ten minutes from Stark industries. We'll be able to tap into security cameras and see what happened."
"Steve." Bucky's anxiety consumed him. "It has to be him."
The blonde grabbed Bucky's shoulders. "Don't jump to conclusions; we don't know what happened."
"I should have taken her and run months ago like I wanted to."
Steve sighed, trying to mask his own dread. "Let's go; we're wasting time."
.
Security footage from the cafe tracks Oakleigh walking down the street and then stopping her eye-catching something. Switching to a street cam, they make out Kenny right before he disappears behind the building.
They see nothing until Devin is grabbed and pulled into a delivery truck. Moments later, Oakleigh runs back out into view, her steps staggered like she was drunk. Then she stops again as someone comes up behind her.
"Shit!" Bucky yells, kicking a nearby chair clean across the room as they switch cameras again and Ozwald's face is revealed.
"This whole thing was a trick," Tony muttered. "He must have hopped on a plane the second our software spotted him."
Steve pulled out his phone, sending an alert to the rest of the team.
The camera losses sight of Oakleigh as she goes down, and people swarm her. They all watch as they track the ambulance through the city. It drives all the way out to a private airport. They lose visual after that.
Bucky's hands were leaving dents in the table he was leaning back on. "They could have taken her anywhere."
Steve grabbed for Bucky as his friend fell to the floor. Kneeling in front of him, Steve kept his hold firm, trying to ground Bucky.
"I've sent Sam and Nat out to the airport; see if they can get us any information." Tony updates them, still typing away on his computer.
"She's gone, Steve."
"No." The blonde insisted. "No, she is not."
With the most destroyed little boy look on his face Bucky remained quiet. All he could think about was how an exiled Hydra agent, who had an obsession with her, had Oakleigh. Bucky wanted to hurl at the mere thought of the many number of things Ozwald could be doing to her right now.
.
"Stop! Oakleigh screamed.
She was light-headed and weak, in and out of consciousness. Ozwald had been bleeding her dry for three-four days now. He leaves her alone every night to replenish and then returned every morning for a repeat performance.
Ozwald had filled three bags with her blood already that morning. He had also set up an IV to feed her electrolytes and other things to keep her alive.
"Shh." He brushed her face with the back of his hand. "We almost have enough."
"For what!? You've taken letters worth of my blood by now. What the hell are you going to do with it?"
He did not respond to her, instead, he just walked away whistling.
.
It was the middle of the night. Steve knew better than to look for Bucky in his room, in the bed he only three short weeks ago shared with Oakleigh. So he went to the roof, Bucky was sitting with his back to one of the walls, head bent between his knees. Steve wished more than anything that he could leave him be.
Stark and Clint had just come back from following up on a lead. A lead Bucky was not going to like. So pulling himself together, Steve called out to his longtime friend, bother.
Bucky raised his head slightly, acknowledging him.
"Come inside. They found something." Bucky knew what they found was not good from the blonde's tone alone.
Silently the two walked swiftly down to the lab where Bruce was running a blood analysis.
Clint looked at the broken man entering the lab. He had bags under his eyes, if he had gotten any sleep since she was taken, it must have been restful. Clint knew if his wife was taken he would be fairing far worse. He could not even imagine something so horrible.
"Stark." Steve signalled for the man to start explaining.
Tony looked at Bucky but then diverted his gaze. "There was an interesting call on the police scanner tonight. Usually, it wouldn't be something we would investigate but given the situation, we've been monitoring everything. There was a body found in a warehouse, she was mangled. Her brown curls were matted with blood, and something fused to her face, making it hard to identify her."
"There was a lake- a lot of blood around her body. It looked like she'd been there overnight, bleeding out. The women looked a lot like Oakleigh."
"Was it her?" Bucky snapped impatiently. "Let me see the crime scene photos."
"We can't be sure. We took blood from the scene and are running it against what Bruce already has in his files."
Sam shook his head. "With everything I've heard about Owen Ozwlad, this doesn't really seem like the move he would make."
"It isn't, but we can't ignore what is staring us in the face." Bruce's computer chimed.
Everyone turned toward the Doctor, waiting for the results. Before he could even open his mouth Steve was reaching for Bucky who stumbled back. The fresh pale color that overtook Bruce's face said everything.
"Taking Oakleigh just to kill her, it wouldn't be Ozwalds move," Natasha interjected. "We know that. Just because the blood was a match does not mean who you found was her. He could be buying more time, making us think she's dead and while we grieve he has all the time in the world to toy with her."
"She's right," Steve told Bucky, hands on his shoulders. "You know O is still alive. Ozwald wouldn't take her just to kill her, not without putting on a show at least."
Bucky couldn't hear that, all he could think was that the blood matched up. The mauled girl looked like the woman he loved.
"Is there a way to confirm if the body is hers?" Steve asked Bruce.
"Yes. Once the corners report is in, we'll know for sure."
"I'll call the morgue tomorrow," Tony confirmed. "Until then, we keep looking."
.
Oakleigh squinted looking the around the room. Instead of waking up tied to a chair. She was in a dark room, lying on a bed, feeling better than she had since she got here. She could only imagine how long it has been. Her heart aches for Bucky. She wished she could say she could not imagine what he must be going through, but she could. Because she had when Hydra first took him. Then again, when he 'died'."
A door opened letting light into the room. "You're awake, you must be feeling better."
"Ozwald." Oaleigh got up from the bed, not wanting to look vulnerable in his presence.
"Call me Owen." He offered, just like he had once before. "You've been asleep nearly 72 hours. Your head must be feeling better, you had a nasty concussion."
"That and the blood loss. Take your pick."
"Both a necessity, so I could bring you here."
She recalled him telling her they were in Nevada. "Are we not in the desert anymore?"
Owen smiled. "We are someplace a lot more comfortable and a lot less on the map."
"Where."
He sucked his teeth, "That information is private I'm afraid. Now that you are awake I need you to do something for me."
"What might that be?"
He stepped aside, gesturing for her to leave the room. Oakleigh hesitated. She knew what was in this room. No windows, one door, a bed, and a dresser. Out there, passed the door she had no clue what awaited her.
She stood stubborn and refused to move.
"Do not be difficult."
Thinking over her options, maybe getting a look around would benefit her in the end. It may lead to her escape if she dares tried to move against him.
Walking passed Ozwald, Oakleigh gave him as wide a birth as possible, walking quickly. She was in a house, she realized. Well the basement of one, but it very much looked like a house you would find in any neighbourhood. Were they hiding out in plain sight? Surely he was not that stupid.
Or maybe he was that smart. He knew Oakleigh would not want others to get hurt if she dared escape and ask them for help. Or she screamed and passersby were killed for trying to investigate.
The house was small, with a lot of wood and stone. Seeing the currents to the living room open, Oakleigh frowned. Walking closer, with no objection from Owen, Oakleigh realized they were in a cabin surrounded by woods. No wonder he was not worried about her causing a scene or escaping.
If she did break out it would probably be miles until the next destination.
"Come sit," Owen called from the kitchen.
Oakleigh took one more look into the trees, they were not dense enough for them to be out here alone. There had to be other cottages nearby. The only thing to consider is if anyone would be occupying them and if those people were working for, or with Owen.
Walking into the kitchen, Owen was sitting on a stand on one side of the granite island. Oakleigh walked around the barrier, wanting something between him and her.
"Would you like something to drink?"
"No."
"You must be thirsty after all this time."
"What's your end game here? You took me in the middle of the day, there is no way the cafe camera did not pick you up. So my friends will know it was you would took me soon enough. Steve, Bucky and I. We've been through hell together, I don't see them searching for a few weeks and then giving up. They will find you eventually, so what's your plan?"
"Take a seat." He patted the stool next to him.
Keeping her face void of emotion, Oakligh stared at him. She wasn't going to play his game. As far as she knew there were only two of them out here.
Kenny... He had been there when she was taken, had he been a part of this?
"Where is Kenny?"
Owen smiled, "Do you know the human body holds nearly 5 litres of blood, but before emptying a litre of blood from a man's body, his vitals will start dropping."
"You killed him."
"He gave you up so easily. Why would I want a disloyal man in my ranks?"
"You could have just let him go."
Owen stood, walking over to the fridge. "No, I couldn't. He has a thing for you."
"You threatened him so he would give me up is not him being disloyal. Kenny doesn't owe me anything."
Oakleigh really did not fault the guy. She knew him once decades ago, he has his own people to protect, and she is not one of them. She was just sad he had to pay the price whether he held out or gave in and helped Owen. She couldn't believe that Kenny had been in league with Owen the whole time.
"He is a weak man like his father was. Always pinning after that blonde he meets while out of town. His mind deviated from the work and he got sloppy. Hydra suffered because of his lazy complacency. His son is more of the same. Doe-eyed for a girl who doesn't give a shit about him."
"I care-"
"Not in the way he hopped."
Oakleigh's skin prickled, and suddenly she did not feel like they were talking about Kenny but about Owen.
Instead of telling him how a man's response to her, was not, her problem. She kept her mouth shut. She was endangered here, even if it were only the two of them.
"What now?"
"There are months worth of food here, the house is fortified. As soon as you leave you will be locked in, as long as you don't try and leave you will not be shocked with thousands of volts of electricity."
"You're leaving me here, alone?"
His eyes dragged over her body. "You're a big girl. I'm sure you can handle it."
.
Bucky had closed himself in his room once the group departed. All he wanted was his girl back, wanted her safe. The more time he spent awake, the more his heart broke with the realization that it may never happen.
Steve came to him, and they both sat together silently through the night until the sun came up and Stark called them to the lab.
"One hundred percent of the blood is hers, which means that for her to still be alive, Ozwald would have to bleed her out slowly over weeks. We also received news from the coroner's office. The body belongs to a Chelsea Turner."
Bucky scrunched as he took in the information. It was not Oakleigh.
"Who is that?" Sam asked.
Stark pulled up the information on the big screen so they could all see a picture of a couple.
"Chelsea is Kenny's fiance. If I had to guess, the reason we saw Kenny in those security photos was that Ozwald kidnapped and planned to torture her. Since we haven't been able to find Kenny, I would assume he is in worse shape than her."
"What's our next move?" Natasha asked, seeing the two world war two soldiers processing the news.
"Nevada."
"What's in Nevada?"
Stark looked over at Steve and Bucky. "Oswald." Both men snapped to attention.
Steve clapped Bucky on his shoulder. "Wheels up in forty minutes."
.
Owen had left not too long after their 'chat' in the kitchen. Oakleigh took the time to explore the house, she had no doubt there were cameras set up to watch her. They were so well hidden. All doors in the house were open, except for the one in the basement. Owen had locked that once he left.
Deciding she did not want to know, Oakleigh took to the couch. There were bookshelves around, and maybe if she were to be here for months like Owen implied she would waste her days away reading, but for now, she needed to figure out what the hell she was going to do.
She would figure out how he locked and unlocked the doors and go from there. Once she figured that out. She would attack Owen and get the hell out of there.
Figuring that was as far as she could go, for now, Oakleigh walked around the whole house, taking inventory of every room. She was pretty sure there were cameras around no doubt to watch her every move. While the idea of a shower was tempting, Oakleigh had no doubt there was a camera somewhere in that bathroom.
She was too tired and stressed out to go looking, so for now she would sleep. But not in the bedroom, she would sleep on the couch. That made her feel less vulnerable.
Grabbing a blanket from the hall closet Oakleigh settled into the corner of the couch where she could see all entrances to the room. Sleep did not come quickly so Oakleigh explored the bookshelf on the left side of the room. Picking up 'Oliver twist' Bucky and Steve were always reading the classics. Somehow this made her feel closer to them, to him.
It was not until a little after four in the morning that Oakleigh started drifting off, only to be woken up by loud banging. She jumped turning toward the front door, only to slowly turn toward the basement door.
What in the actual fuck?
"Hey! Hello?"
Oakleigh frowned, the door had been locked when she tried to open it earlier. Unless it had a lock on the inside she should be safe. Maybe Owen took more than just her, or maybe Owen planted someone to gain her trust.
"Hi."
Silence, then. "Oak?"
"What's your name?"
"It's Kenny." He said sadly.
Oakleigh bristled, Kenny had led Owen to her, he had been there the day she went to meet her friends in the cafe.
"Oak?" He asked after a long stretch of silence with again no answer.
.
The group swept the facility in Nevada finding lab supplies. A discount hydra facility at most, it was a very low-key version of what they had. If they had to guess, it's probably the most Ozwald could manage.
Natasha went to try and find security footage and came across something a video rig all set up.
She called Bucky, Steve and the rest into the room.
"Pack it up, we'll watch it when we're back at the compound," Tony told her, he did not have time for the sergeant to lose his head.
They all assumed they would see Oakleigh on that tape. Whatever happened, would not be good in a place like this.
"Finish the sweet, grab records and anything else you think could be useful," Steve instructed, tapping Bucky's shoulder to get him moving.
He knew his friend was struggling to be in another place like this. A place Oakleigh had been kept, this time without him. The guilt on his face was loud, at least to his best friend it was.
"She's not here," Bucky told him, stomping through the rest of the building.
"No, but we know she was. He's playing with you, Buck. I know it's hard to keep your head in the game while O is involved. I'll be here to watch your back until we can get to her, but you need to keep moving. Keep trying to put your best foot forward, because she deserves that."
"I know she does."
The video was long and started off with the girl, Kenny's fiance, Who Ozwald watched another man torture her. Her death was slow and took hours, thankfully the screaming stopped after the first hour.
They fast-forwarded through most of it until Oakleigh's familiar face appears. Bucky sat up, eyes locked on her face. Her hair was matted with blood and her eyes were unfocused a concussion.
Oswald was sliding IVs into her arms, running his slimy hands up and down her arms as she woke. Oakleigh frowned leaning away from him, her eyes tracking down her body and widening when she saw the medical equipment attached to her.
They watched as she closed her eyes tightly and her head dropped, Ozwald injected her with something in the shoulder and she fully slumped, Not too long after blood started flowing through the tubes, filling big medical beakers.
They fast-forwarded as Oswald pinched off the blood supply and changed the beakers over three times before pinching them off for 24 hours. The tape cuts and it's three days later, Oakleigh is awake and she and Ozwald are talking. Blood is once against being pulled from her body. She was pale and there were dark circles under her eyes.
She's yelling for him to stop. He tells her to be quiet and that they are almost done. She tried to get answers from him but Ozwald just puts her out again. He kept her asleep the rest of the time, drugging her over and over to keep her under. He bleed her dry for days and in the end, he stole so much blood from her that Bucky was not sure how she was still alive.
The last thing they saw was Ozwald unhooking her from the IV and the chair she was tied down to. He picked her up and carried her off-camera.
"That's it?" Steve confirmed.
Tony nodded, "There are no more tapes or footage anywhere else that we could find. We're not sure where they went, we still have some more data to go through but as of now, we have no new leads."
Bucky closed his eyes and clenched his fists. All he wanted to do was yell and scream that it was not enough, how could they have disappeared with no one seeing them? This century everyone had phones out, there were cameras everywhere and no one has seen them.
It was a load of shit and Bucky was not about to sit around waiting for another lead, they needed to be proactive. It seems Steve was thinking the same thing.
"We track down every single Hydra base we can until we either find something or come up with another lead. We leave tomorrow mid-day, until then everyone gets some rest."
Bucky went hard, pushing to get someone Hydra facility to the next. Most were abandoned years ago, but it did not matter, they blew them to hell so no one could use them again. Until they arrived in Arizona.
Steve and Bucky breached first, Natasha, Sam and Clint second. Tony and Bruce waiting out in the jet.
Usually, the group split up into a team of three and four, but this was a big facility, a newer one. If they wanted to run through the whole building in a timely manner they needed the full team.
The building was three levels deep and they found nothing but labs and bunk rooms on the first level, offices and storage rooms on the second and the third level nothing original.
Lab tables and hospital equipment, all be it more updated equipment, but the basics non the less.
Sam and Natasha took the left, Steve and Bucky the right. Steve and Bucky shared a look as they cleared their last room. Sam sounded in their ears.
"Nat and I found something, meet you guys back on the plane."
The soldiers double-timed it back up top. Tony was waiting for them at the ramp of the plane, he looked nervous.
"Tony." Steve and Bucky stopped in front of the man.
"As you know, Sam and Natasha found something, someone." Seeing the hope on both men's faces, Tony continued. "Not Oakleigh."
"Who is it?" Bucky asked.
Tony pursed his lips, sharing a look with Steve, "Ozwald."
Tony's sidestepped to get in Bucky's way, Steve grabbed Bucky's arm as he plowed into Tony, not at all discarded by the man in his way.
"Buck!"
Bucky looked down at Steve's hand on his shoulder. "Get off of me."
"Oakleigh was not with him, we need him to find her."
"I know that." He growled through gritted teeth. "I'm going to find out where the fuck she is."
"I don't think that's a good idea," Tony said, stepping back from Bucky, and gesturing to him. "This is all a bit much."
"I'm good enough to be a soldier but not have a conversation?"
"What you're planning in that cyborg head of yours, is not simple conversation. Rodgers is right, your girlfriend is taken and we don't know where she is. This man is responsible for hurting her before, you're telling me you can have a calm conversation with him?"
"No one wants to find her more than me."
"Maybe so, you're still not interrogating him. In fact, you and the Captian are taking the car home."
Natasha backed a black SUV from the plane. Stepping out and handing Steve the keys, moving back to stand beside Tony.
"Where are you taking him?" Steve asked.
"The coordinates are already in the GPS. You'll meet us there. Fury's orders."
Bucky did not move. Steve narrowed his eyes at the pair. "Why does Fury care about this?" Tony claimed up. "Really?"
"Better start driving if you want to be there for the integration. To watch."
Bucky slammed the passenger car door. Steve joined him. "He gave himself up, why would he do that?"
"I'm not sure Buck. You said the man was sadistic, he's playing games."
Bucky ran a hand down his face. "We don't know where she is, Steve. Ozwald's not with her, so she's either alone or with someone else. Anyone Ozwald would be working with or for is going to be just as crazy as he is."
"You are probably right, and it's our job to figure out where she is. If Tony and Fury won't push it, we will. Let's just wait and see if they can get anything out of him first." Stev checked out the GPS. "The airport?"
A text came into Steve's phone, "There is a private plane waiting at the airstrip, hangar seven."
"At least I don't have to go threw security with this thing." Bucky raised his hand. "Let's go, I want to miss as little as possible."
.
Kenny had tried to talk to her all night. Explaining that Ozwald and Larson, she was not sure who they were, took his fiance. He did not want to give Oakleigh up but he loved the woman and could not let the two harm her. They had taken her from her job and had taken her somewhere before coming to him.
After the kidnapping, Kenny always planned to go to Bucky and tell him everything he knew, to help get her back. Larson attacked him and threw him into the basement. He's been all alone until now.
He had fallen asleep because of pain from his wound, he had bled out all over the basement dirt. At the end lying in it so long, the dirt packed the wound shut. Though no doubt in a couple of days, he would have a major infection on his hands.
Oakleigh climbed back onto the couch and tried to ignore him, reading her book. Though she did not do much reading, listening to him instead of the words on the page. She did not know Kenny, as a matter of fact, she was sure now more than ever that Bucky was right.
He never mentioned having anyone else in his life. He could be fine right now, instead of bloody and dirty like he told her. So she sat quietly and read. Eventually, after a couple more apologies he fell silent. Either giving up or falling asleep, she could not be sure.
Now feeling wide awake and less safe, Oakleigh decided she would start making breakfast. The sun would be rising within the hour and she was hungry. She had not eaten anything in a month and the vitamins Ozwald had pumped into her were not enough, she needed to start feeding herself.
So she made a simple chicken dish, with rice. She made a big recipe, she figured she could eat it for supper and then again tomorrow. Then she made herself a light breakfast, OJ and cereal. She needed to start herself back with light foods, not something that would make her stomach ache.
After that Oakleigh returned to the couch, picking up where she left off in her book.
Days went by and every day Kenny tried to get her to talk to him and every day she refused. It was until almost a week in, she broke.
"Kenny?" She knocked on the door.
The was slight muffling and then the sound of boots on stairs.
"I'm here." He sounded tired.
"Are you working for Hydra?"
"I created their firewall when they went digital."
Tears burned in Oakleigh's eyes, she should have listened to Bucky, he knew from the beginning they should not trust Kenny. She let Hydra back into their lives.
"I'm not a scientist. I don't work for Hydra."
"That's bullshit."
"I set up their tech, I'm an IT guy at best."
"FOR HYDRA!"
"For many organizations!"
Oakleigh shook her head, even though he couldn't see her. He could rot down in that basement for all she cared. If Ozwald really had taken his fiance, there was no way she was still alive.
"So when you came and found me in the cemetery, you were what? Bridging the gap between me and them? You're disgusting."
"Ozwald is a psychotic manic, I think we both know that. I wanted you to know he was looking for you, and yes I did know that because I designed the system he used to do it. i saw the red flag and I brought it to your attention."
"You gave me up to HYDRA. Not even Hydra. Some psycho who Hydra kicked to the curb. If you expect sympathy from me, you aren't going to get it."
"Think what you want of me, but right now you and I are in the same boat. Held hostage."
"No." Oakleigh backed away from the door. "Because I'm up here with a kitchen, bedroom and a shower and your down there with what?"
Kenny groaned, leaning heavily into the door. "We're going to need each other Oakleigh."
"I don't need you. And I'm guessing neither does your fiance."
It was mean and uncalled for, but Oakligh was running on little sleep and Kenny was pissing her off.
A week and a half in Kenny stopped trying to talk to her all together. Oakleigh thought he possibly succumbed to his wounds but could hear him moving around enough down there to know better.
Two weeks in and Kenny spoke to her again. At this point, Oakleigh had disabled the camera in the bathroom and bedroom upstairs, leaving them open for her to use. She stayed on the top level of the home most of the time, not wanting to be near the trator.
She was down making breakfast when he started lightly knocking on the basement door, calling out for her, begging.
"I've run out of supplies and the infection in my side is only getting worse. I need your help Oakleigh."
She walked over, "I don't believe you. If you had an infection for this long you would be dead or near it."
"Feeling a little half dead right now if that counts."
"I don't trust you."
"I'm not asking you to." He took a couple of seconds to catch his breath. "I just need help, you're the only one here to give it."
Oakleigh jiggled the door handle. "I've been all over this house, I don't have any keys to unlock the door. I can barely hear you so I assume the doors thick."
Greeted with silence, Oakleigh started to think she had made a mistake by trying to avoid being betrayed a second time. If Kenny died because she was stubborn she would never forgive herself. Why did he stay quiet for so long, why did he not ask her for help sooner?
Thinking back to the first night he talked to her, she remembered him mentioning the dirt floor in the basement and how he was sure to get a concussion. She was so mad and upset that she did not really listen to him.
Running to the kitchen she checked all the drawers and couldn't find anything that could help her unlock the door or break it down. All the knives were taken from the house along with anything overly sharp. Clearly, Ozwald was worried about her turning a weapon on him if he came back for her or maybe he thought after some time she would turn a weapon on herself.
"Damn it! Ozwald!" She yelled looking into the camera in the kitchen. "Kenny is dying. How do I get into the basement?"
Not that she thought she would get an answer but, secretly she was hoping there was some speaker system in the cameras or hidden around the house.
"Please? You know how bad resale is going to be if you let someone die in your basement. you have to tell people that kind of thing when new renters move in." She blabbed nervously. "Ozwald! I'm going to break down your door if you don't answer me!"
Grabbing the stool Oakleigh went back into the living room, getting a good hold on the metal.
"Kenny, if you can, back up. I'm going to break the door down."
Oakleigh gave a test swing, trying to see if the door would dent. All she did was chip the paint.
This was an older house, not much different than the one she grew up in. the door knob had screws holding the metal in place. Running back to the kitchen, she grabbed a spoon, hoping to use it to turn the screws. All she successes in doing was bending the spoon handle.
"Shit! Ok, what to do?"
Picking up the stool again, Oakleigh swung repeatedly yelling with each impact. She made scratches in the door, and a couple of dents but not much headway. It would take a long time to break the door down enough to get to Kenny, even then it might be too late for her to fix him. He would need a real medical person to help him out. Unless...
"Larson! Hello? Larson, please help me!"
Nothing.
"Damnit! Please!"
With no options left, Oakleigh remembered what Owen had told her about the entrances to the home. If she tried to get out, she would be electrocuted. Walking toward the living room window, she reached forward to touch the metal handle, her body immediately locking up pee running down her leg as she passed out, letting go.
