"We'll read from wherever it opens at." You offer, with the book you've penned in your hands. Moroha claps, happy, as she sits on her futon and without letting go of the wooden sword we made for her.
In the moment you skim through the chosen page, your back straightens, rigid, right before you hurriedly skip to the next one. I smile, and for a moment, I think it's one of those adventures you believe our daughter to be too young to hear. I choose to let it go, almost, as I take the book from your hands, carefully keeping a finger on the page you didn't want to read.
"What about this one?" I mention, settling on a moment.
You look at me, and smile in that enigmatic way you sometimes use, and that speaks to me of how delicate your soul is. Then, I decide to start reading.
"It was the first time Sango witnessed how InuYasha could turn into a human, and her eyes seemed unable to completely understand what was happening before her. I was already used to it, we had been together for enough moons now, yet that didn't take away how special these moments were; one reason being, InuYasha's own vulnerability…"
"Human!" Moroha shouts, who with her two cycles of life already, is discovering new words, and associating them with the moments when she hears them.
"Yes, my love. Human." You say, as you lay on that futon by her side, luring her to do so too, so that she may get sleepy little by little.
I return to the reading, recalling the moment vividly.
"That night in particular, he was quite mad. Not long ago he had turned into a complete youkai, something that perturbed him even if he wanted us to think otherwise." I make a pause there, lifting my gaze towards you. Have you always been able to read my inner self that well?
"Keep going." You spur me. Even now if feels like you are reading my mind.
"… He also was angry at his secret being shared with more people, and like always, he went again to spend his human night alone." I stop again. "You forgot to write what you said to me there."
"What?" You ask, as you gently tap Moroha's legs, whose eyelids were slowly getting heavier.
"That day you told me that more people knowing my secret was a good thing, for that meant I had more friends." I remind you.
But you just smile, then the realization strikes me; you haven't forgotten about it, you just preferred not to write it.
"Witch." I vent in conclusion, and with deep love.
Then, I resume my task.
"I went near him with the need to know if he still wished to be a complete youkai. InuYasha seemed to misunderstand me, and I tried my best to clarify I wasn't afraid of the youkai, but of him losing the many memories we were making." In that instant, I breathe deeply, still feeling on my skin your words of that night.
I lift my gaze, and reflect it in yours, repeating the same thing I answered back then.
"No matter what may happen, I'm myself. There is no way I may forget you, Kagome."
You extend your hand, and I do so too, both meeting in a warm touch. I'm witness to your emotion crystalizing on your eyes, so I make a soft hush while looking at our daughter, who is starting to fall asleep.
After that, I go to the page you avoided to read.

A/N
I ADORE writing IKIGAI!
I believe it's so natural for them to remember their times together, contrasting each other points of view, for in life there is always than just one side to a story, and that's just perfect.
Kisses, and thank you for reading and joining me.
Anyara.
