Chapter 13 Do me a favor.

The screen shows Carrie in her room. She sits on her bed and stares at the books on her nightstand. Suddenly, the books start to move on their own. The books flow to Carrie and start making circles.

The people in the room stare with awe.

At the same time the bed starts to flow.

''Okay that's freaking awesome'' Says Heather Shrys as people start muttering.

"How much do you think you can lift, Carrie?" Asks Mr Holt as Carrie looks at him.

"I don't know". She said. " I remember that when I was younger I could lift my toys and other small stuff, with the stones being the highlight." Mr Holt nods his head, absorbing everything the girl in front of him says and stocking away the information for later.

"It seems you are getting stronger every new scene". Notes Freddie Holt.

"So it is kinda like a muscle?"Asks Mr Dean. "You get better with training?" Carrie is quiet for a few seconds, a thoughtful look on her face.

"I think so". Answers Carrie, giddiness filling her.

The screen turns to Margaret, who is washing the dishes.

Heather Shrys sighs.

''There we have her again',

''And it was just getting interesting''.

The other Ultra's start laughing.

Suddenly, the lights start to flicker.

The atmosphere in the room does a 180. Any fun they had before is gone in the face of Margaret discovering about her daughter using her powers and potential reaction on that.

Margaret looks up.

Margaret: "Carrie…Carrie?".

Margaret picks up a big knife and starts walking to her daughter's room.

"Seriously?!". Screams Tommy Ross and some other students. The rest of the room look at the knife in Margaret's hand, noticing how sharp it is. Some of the adults start to mutter to each other, worried for Carrie. The group around Carrie move closer to the girl. The girl in question is silent, her face carved out of stone. The only thing giving away her discomfort is the tightness around her eyes and her mouth.

She kinda looks like her mother like that.

Sue shakes her head, pushing the unpleasant thought away. She turns around to face her boyfriend and parents.

"Is she gonna kill Carrie?" Says Sue worried to her boyfriend.

Was this the reason for having to watching this movie? Was Margaret going to kill her daughter? The thought made her sick and a fresh wave of guilt threatens to overwhelm her. Her parents try to calm her down and offer sweet words, but it does nothing to ease her. Beside her Tommy is quiet. After what feels like an eternity, Tommy takes her hand but offers her none of the sweet nonsense her parents and her parents classmates are offering their children. She likes it that way. He is not making promises he can't keep, unlike the rest.

The screen changes and shows a now terrified Carrie who stops with levitating her bed and the books. The screen changes again and now shows Margaret going inside Carrie's room.

The people in the room can only watch with horror. Some people like Norma Watson and her mother have close their eyes not wanting to see what is going to happen next. Beside Carrie, Mrs Desjardin and Jessica Upshaw are squeezing her left and right hand each. For who's comfort, it is is unclear.

She sees Carrie sleeping in her bed.

The people in the room feel relief at seeing this. Norma Watson and Mrs Wtson, hearing the signs of relief open their eyes.

She walks to Carrie and places the knife on Carrie's nightstand. Margaret strokes Carrie's hair.

Mrs Desjardin and Jessica squeeze particularly hard in Carrie's hands.

Margaret: "I'm not going to let anyone hurt you, little girl. You're safe here with me".

Chris Hargenson snorts. "Somehow I seriously doubt that''.

Carrie uses her telekinesis on the knife as It falls from the nightstand on the ground.

"Why did you do that, Carrie?" Asks Norma Watson as Carrie looks at the girl.

"I was probably scared that Mo..., I mean Margaret would see that I wasn't sleeping and then punish me for that". Answers Carrie, having gone through similar things in the past. The people in the room feel like crying hearing Carrie so casually say this.

''Are you okay Carrie,is there anything we can get for you?'' Asks Principal Morton as Carrie shakes her head.

''I am fine, thank you''.

Rachel Spies looks at Carrie with disbelief. "How can you be okay after seeing this?''

Her parents look at her and try to calm their daughter. Carrie turns to her a tired look on her face.

''Because this isn't new for me, I have lived with momma's moods for years''. Rachel Spies looks at Carrie, not knowing what to say to that.

Margaret looks at it and then at her daughter. The screen shows a big sport field. Guys play lacrosse. One of them is Tommy Ross. Sue Snell, Tommy's girlfriend, watches him. Tommy turns around and sees Sue. He stops playing lacrosse and runs towards Sue. He and Sue kiss.

Tommy:"Got it".

Sue:"Hey".

Tommy:" How are you doing?"

Sue:"Good".

Tommy:" Good?"

Sue:"Yeah".

Tommy:"What's up?"

Sue:"I want you to take Carrie White to prom".

"Whatttttttttttt"!

The people in the room look at Sue and Tommy with gobsmacked faces.

"You're joking right, Sue". Says Lila Thibodeau.

''Were does this come from?'' Say the Wilson twins at once.

"Why would you do that". Say Chris and Carrie at once while looking at Sue. They then turn and look at each other, before hastily looking away. Sue looks at the screen, why would she?

Oh. Sue turns to look at Carrie in the eyes and smiles timidly.

"To make up for the shower incident". Says Sue, understanding her future selfes choice. As The people in the room blink at those words, understanding downing on them. "You deserve it". Says Sue. Carrie blushes at those words and looks away.

"That's really kind of you, Sue". Says Cindy Young as The other girls agree.

Chris Hargenson looks quitely at Sue.

"But what about your own Prom?''.

''I know you have been dreaming about it since you were young''. Says Mrs Snell upset.

''I know mom but there will always be next year''. Says Sue.

"And what about Tommy?". Asks Mr Snell looking at his daughters boyfriend.

"Guys it is just one night".Answers Sue.

''And I agree with whatever Sue wants'' Says Tommy. Sue throws him an grateful look. Before things can escalate, a voice interrupts them.

"Thank you both, but you should go with Tommy". Says Carrie as The crowd is silent for a few seconds. "He is you're boyfriend, not mine". Continues Carrie.

"But...". Says Sue.

"No, you already apologized, it is alright'' Says Carrie.

"Ladies you can talk about this later, for now let's watch the movie''. Says Principal Morton. The two girls go silent and take their seat.

''Did you mean what you said'' Whispers Sue.

''For you I would do anything Sue, you know I love you right?'' Whispers Tommy back. A big smile comes over her face and she gives Tommy a small peck on his lips.

Tommy starts laughing.

Tommy:"Good one, babe".

''That would also have been my first reaction''. Says Jackie Tallbott.

Sue:"Come on".

Tommy:"Are you serious?"

Sue:" I'm just trying to fix what I did".

Tommy:"Yeah, I get that, but this is...Sue, it's nuts".

Sue looks hurt at her boyfriend while Tommy holds his hands up as piece offering.

Sue:"Okay, so it's nuts. But after what we did to her, I have to do something. I have to do something that counts".

''And having Mr populair over their asking her to prom is the answer''. Says Freddy Holt skeptical.

''I have to agree with the nerd there''. Says Chris Hargenson.

''Hey! I thought we were making progress!'' Says Freddy Holt.

''Sorry'' Says Chris Hargenson.

''Baby steps''. Whispers Jessica Upshaw.

''I know Tommy would be nice to Carrie and protect her from others who might try to hurt her'' Says Sue. Tommy glows under the praise of his girlfriend and promises himself that if he ends up taking Carrie White to prom he will protect her.

Not that that may be necessary after seeing all of this, but it is the thought that counts.

Tommy:"Uh...What even makes you think that she would say yes to me?"

Sue:"She'd say yes".

Tommy:"We've barely even spoken".

Sue:"I saw how she looked at you in class when you rescued her".

"You have a crush on Tommy?" Asks Chester Miller as Carrie gets red in the face.

"No of course not!" Says Carrie as some girls start giggling.

''Yes she does, look at how red she is''. Says Tina Blake while Carrie turns to look at Tommy.

"I mean you're a nice guy but I don't really know you". Says Carrie timid as Tommy smiles at her.

''You don't have to know him to have a crush on him dumbass''. Says Tina Blake snarkly.

''Miss Blake!''

''Tina''.

Tina holds her hands up.

''What I mean is that like half the female population of Ewen High has a crush on Tommy so don't sweat it okay?'' Says Tina Blake. Carrie is quiet, not used to having Tina Blake being nice to her, or what is nice for her.

''Guy is used to having girls simpering around him, but we trust each other right Tommy''. Says Sue Snell as Tommy nods.

"No hard feelings, Carrie".

Sue: What girl doesn't want to go to prom? What girl doesn't want one magical night?"

Carrie looks at the screen, beginning to doubt her earlier words. Isn't this what she has always wanted? One change to enjoy herself to have fun and taste what it is like to be a normal girl her age?

Sue has had hundreds moments like this, would it realy be so bad to be selfish for once? Don't I deserve this one time?

But is she doing it for me or to make herself feel good?

Carrie shakes her head, trying to push the unpleasant thoughts about her classmate away.

Sue: Maybe I can give that up for her".

Tommy:"No. Babe, I want you to have that magic night. I don't want to go to prom with Carrie White. I want to go to prom with you".

The people in the room winch.

''So much for I will do anything for you Sue'' Says Chris Hargenson.

''Ouch that is rough buddy'' Says George Dawson while Carrie looks at her hands, the words stinging.

Tommy turns to look at Carrie. Despite her trying to appear brave, his words must have hurt.

''I am so sorry, I didn't mean to sound like that''. Says Tommy. "You are a sweet girl…"

"It's okay, I understand you would prefer to go with your girlfriend to prom then me''. Says Carrie.

Tommy winces at her practical tone.

''Yeah, but...''

''We discussed this earlier and I said there was nothing left to apologize for''. Says Carrie. "You take Sue Snell to Prom and you both have an wonderful time''.

''But'' Tries Tommy as Carrie shakes her head.

''You know I haven't a date yet to Prom, if you want we could go''. Says Freddy Holt. He turns bright red once he understands what he has said.

"As friends of course!'' Says Freddie Holt as Carrie blushes.

'' I have to think about it but I think I would like that''. Says Carrie blushing as the room explodes.

''Nice going Holt!''

''I can't believe the Beak has a date before me!''

''You have finally asked a girl out!''

''Be gentle with her"'.

'They grow up so fast'.

''I can't believe my baby has his first date!'

''Keep quite Dawson she hasn't said yes yet!''

''My baby is going to Prom!''

''MOM''.

'''SILENCE!'.

Tommy looks at Sue.

''Well that problem is solved''. After a while Principal Morton finally manages to calm the room enough that they can listen to the rest of the movie.

Sue:" I can't go".

''You can't or you won't'' Says Chris Hargenson slightly bitter. At the other side of the room Mrs Desjardin and Jessica Upshaw are discussing dresses and other prom related stuff with Carrie.
