Live Library Reading:
NOTE: The story on the live reading is the Shimmer and Shine picture book, 'Pets Are The Best'.
It was Monday, February 27, 2021, at the Mesquite Library, in Phoenix, Arizona. A lot of little kids were sitting on the floor of the Storytime area of the library, waiting for two familiar genies to show up. They all cheered when they came in...
Librarian: Please welcome Shimmer and Shine!
Shimmer: Hello, kids! I'm Shimmer!
Shine: And I'm Shine!
Shimmer/Shine: Twin sisters, divine!
The little kids clapped as the twin genies stepped up front...
Librarian: Okay, kids, these twin sisters came here to read one of their books today.
Shimmer: That's right!
Shine: (holds book up) This book is called 'Pets Are The Best!'
The children were smiling, now interested in the book about pets. The twin genies sat on chairs, and began reading the book to them.
Shimmer opened the book to the first page, and started...
Shimmer: 'Shimmer and Shine love their playful pets.'
Then Shine turned to the next page, and read...
Shine: 'Who is Shine's (points to herself) sweet little tiger?'
The children had a curious look...
Shine: 'Nahal!'
Many of the kids were amazed, then Shimmer turned to the next page, then said, 'Who is Shimmer's (points to himself) cute little monkey?'
The kids shook their heads...
Shimmer: 'Tala!'
Shine turned to the next page, and read it...
Shine: 'The genies love their furry friends.'
Little kids: Oooh...
The twin genies looked at each other, and Shine turned to the last page of the book, then she and Shimmer read it together to the kids...
Shimmer/Shine: 'Shimmer and Shine know that pets are the best!'
With that, the story was done. All the little kids cheered as the two genies stood up and took a bow.
Librarian: That was Shimmer and Shine! If you want a picture with these two girls, get in line right now.
Everyone took a picture with Shimmer and Shine and told them that they really liked their book, which the two genies were happy about. After mingling with the kids at the Storytime corner for the whole morning, they said goodbye to all of them, before leaving Mesquite Library.
